For most people, the idea of a close friend was someone who knew the other inside and out, who knew the other’s deepest secrets and skeletons that few others were aware of, but sometimes, Fukalite was not like most people. She could depend on Labryinthite for an exciting adventure whenever she called for it. The two had shared more than enough thrilling moments to last a lifetime, but it still wasn’t enough for her. Thin lips curled into an innocent smile when she realized that this would be another chapter of exhilarating battles and hardships with her friend.

Disgusted, Fukalite stuck out her tongue. “Those are one of the types that I hate the most! I’ll get things done, you know? I just prefer to do things at my own pace, but no—“ She kindly excluded the fact that she was a fan of procrastination (hey! She did better with a spoonful of pressure…) Her shoulders shook slightly as she held back a laugh, but stubbornly held onto her pleading look.

And then she wiped it off her face as she awkwardly cast her gaze to the side and her expression turned sullen. “Yeah, I suppose.” She looked up at the moon and forced a casual smile. “Don’t you think we’ve been patrolling long enough? I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t have the energy to keep this up all night.”

What Fukalite didn't know yet, was that since Chase cut off all contact with his parents, he devoted all of his free time to work of some sort. If he wasn't working for the two jobs he now held, then he was out patrolling until the late hours of the night into the early, early morning. He didn't sleep, not often by any means. "Don't worry, I don't plan on being one of those stupid busybodies any time soon," he joked pulling away from his companion. "You just gotta get stuff done sometimes right?" He shrugged interlacing his hands together and folded his arms behind his head.

He didn't really respond because he didn't feel like there was a reason to, he just nodded curtly. "Sure," he told her turning back now that he was a few paces ahead of her. "I'll take you back if you'd like? I'll probably stay out for a while, but I don't want you getting ambushed on your own," he told her neglecting to tell her about his self imposed insomnia.

He liked to occupy any and all his time with something, it kept him distracted. He didn't like it when his thoughts caught up with him.

While Fukalite appreciate the system they had set up together, it had its drawbacks as well. She didn’t have to confess all of her problems, nor did Labyrinthite, but the more serious problems were also easily filed away into silence. If she knew about his troubles, Fukalite would have done everything she could to assuage his problems. While she would not consider it her place to control how he decided to live his life and strain his relations with his parents, she would never let her long-time companion become a long-time insomniac. Insomnia could be deadly when the condition worsened. But alas, she was still completely clueless.

“Stay out even more? Well, aren’t we the studious soldier? Try not to make a pattern out of it, though. Humans can die without sleep.” While mild confusion crossed her face, Fukalite cast her suspicions aside and smiled. “How gentlemanly of you, but I’d like you to know that I know how to take care of myself…but some company on the way back would be nice.”

He had walked a couple of paces past her and tilted his head back, hands still behind it, to look at her upside down while he gave her his most charming grin. The one he used to get him out of sticky situations, he didn't know how well it would work with Hayden who knew most of the tricks he kept up his sleeve but he figured that by being goofy and even upbeat, he'd keep her off his tail for a little bit longer.

"Don't you worry about me, I can take care of myself you know that," he told her trying to keep his tone light and playful. Right now it wasn't very obvious how sleep deprived he really was but if he wasn't careful he could easily slip up and let her know that something was really up. "I got some business to take care of, some information to scout out and some training to catch up on," he informed her though it was only partially the truth.

"You know me," he joked dropping his hand from behind his head and extending a hand for her to take as he turned to face her and bowed mockingly. "Can't let a lady walk home alone in the late hours of the night."

They had been friends for a while. She knew his tricks, which made it amusing to see Labryinthite attempt to pull a fast one on her with his iconic charming grin. Wordlessly, Fukalite returned the smile with a smug one of her own. Something was suspicious about the precious of his charming smile, but she held back any and all curious inquiries. Instinct warned her that broaching the topic—whatever it was—would result in a dispute she would rather avoid.

“Oh really now? Well, if you insist, but if you happen to suddenly fall asleep during the day don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Her tone almost mirrored his, but there was a tinge of sincere worry in the lieutenant’s voice. As casual as their relationship appeared to be, Labryinthite had Fukalite’s loyalty and affection, through and through.

Naturally, she mimicked a curtsy before reaching out to grasp his hand. “You truly are a gentleman.” Throughout the entire walk back home, they continued to exchange teasing banter, interspersed with small bouts of silence. “Home, sweet home,” murmured Fukalite as she turned around to walk backwards and briefly wave at Labrythinte. “Have fun with your scouting and training, then.” She wiped the grin of her face for a brief moment. “If you need any sort of help just call me, okay?”

"Oh I won't," he responded easily pretending to brush her concern away like it was nothing. It didn't seem like something to bother with now, she had said it jokingly enough that he felt as though he had barely escaped what could be an onslaught of questions and concerns. He didn't have the energy to deal with that presently. It was reassuring though, to hear the tinge of worry that lined her tone, though he dismissed it with a small, unnoticeable shake of the head.

He'd talk to her about it one day. Maybe. Probably not.

"Only for a pretty lady," he cracked curling his fingers around her hand. The walk to her place was relaxed and easy, the taunts and teases flying back and forth reminded him of a time when things had been simpler. It made him truly appreciate the fact that he had an old friend standing in the ranks of an army with him.

"I will, promise," he told her stepping backward with a nod of his head. He'd call if he needed her. It didn't take him long to turn on his heel and take off running, off to do whatever he felt was on the top of his priority list.
