"Experiments? Explosions? Was the food okay?" asked Claire, looking genuinely worried and hurt at the idea of a fridge exploding. Claire thought about this for a moment. How would she even bring up the subject? "What about mother? She'd be so much easier to convince. Even though you guys aren't... related I'm sure she wouldn't mind getting a fridge for you. Uncle Albert owns a fridge company so we have plenty."
Claire really didn't want to call her father. Really.

"...Err, no, it wasn't. Obliterated entirely. Even the sentient edibles. All for a good cause, of course," he thought briefly of the now-expanded mark on Christof's hand, "science and so forth."
Barth seemed surprised at the mention of Claire's mother. "Oh yes, that's right. Gluttony too, isn't she? If you think that's easier. ...Just so it doesn't get back to Dad about the fridge."

"Oh jack! That poor food!" Claire gasped and clapped her hand to her mouth "F-for science? ...Okay..." She thought about the possibility of dad finding out. "I'll say it's for me... For backup purposes!" she said brightly, running to the desk to get her address book. No point waiting, right?

"Oh good," Barth said, relieved. "I knew I could count on you." And he could. There were not an incredible amount of family members he trusted, persay, but Claire was certainly on the list. ...A destroyed fridge getting back to dad didn't bear thinking about.
"Err, while we're on family. ...Did you know we had a grandfather? I mean, we both would, obviously, but a mutual grandfather. That is, in fact, still around and not dead."

"Yep! I'll call her in a minut---REALLY? I know mother's dad was a sloth demon... what was dad's dad's species? WHAT? Wait, we do? Or...WHAT." Claire was so shocked by this news that she dropped her phone.

"Your mother's dad, really?" It explained something about Claire's toleration of him, any way. "...And Greed. He is most definitely Greed. He and dad aren't on the best terms," that was putting it mildly, "which is why neither of us have seen him about. ...He's not a bad sort."
Excluding the focus on money and occasional murder.
"You dropped the phone," Barth added helpfully.

"Greed? Wow. So. I have greed blood, then?" Claire didn't think of herself as greedy. Claire nodded and picked up her phone. "We're kind of... multi-avarice, aren't we? Sloth, glutton, greed... Do you know any other relatives that are something different?" Claire couldn't think of any.

"I think we're just purposed towards the one avarice," Barth said, "but I dabble in the other Sins occasionally. ...My mom's not Avarice, she's a Slime Elemental. ...Demon, of course. The Mudds are all Earth elementals, present company excluded."
He waited with her for the phone to be answered.

"My family is very strong avarice base- not any other marria-- OH! Hello, this is Claire Virus speaking! Lem, can you get mum for me?" Lem, her brat sister had answered. Lem's father was a sloth and took ages to do everything. Unfortunately that trait had been passed on to Lem. "No other marriages than avarice." she said to Barth with her ear pressed to the phone. "Hello, mum! I'm wondering if you could send over another fridge for me- you were saying that you just got a few? Yeah... Yep... Yes, I want a second one to avoid incidents like... yeah. Yep. No, please don't send it by sloth mail... Alright. Okay. No, Lem can't visit me, she's an annoying twit... Alright, alright...Yes... see you, bye!" Claire rolled her eyes as her mother hung up. She remembered offering Barth something to eat, so she went to her fridge and got him a hamburger. Claire tossed it to him, hoping he'd catch it and then sat down again.

Barth wasn't a very good catcher, but he was very good at providing a lap for hamburgers to fall into.
"Thank you," he said, skewering the patty with his claw. "Err, for the hamburger. And the refrigerator." That had gone a lot easier than he could have hoped for, and without involving Dad, too.
"Not that many eligible avarice-sorts in school, are there?"

"That's okay, I'll send it over once it gets here. Probably in the next day or so." Eligible avarice-sorts in the school? What did he mean? Like... Nice people avarice people demon things? Claire thought about it for a moment or two. "West is good at dancing, he won that stuff at prom..." she said. She sort of knew Livi too, the envy demon. "What about that pride demoness? What's her name... starts with 'C' I think..." She shrugged and turned on the tv for no apparent reason.

"Carry. Lost her memory earlier in the year. She's involved in that island, somehow. And well, yes, West, I suppose. But he's not...err, well. ...Not that I'm an only-Avarice dating sort. You'd just mentioned that your side of the family was."
For his own part, Barth found something alluring about Reapers. Lilith...strong, competent, pushed all the right buttons.
Barth was well-settled in the chair now, and reluctant to leave.
"Don't suppose you and err, West have talked much?"

"OH YOU MEAN LIKE... ELIGIBLE TO DATE? Oh gosh. No, I've only talked to West via groanspring. He likes pink. I don't know, if the time comes, whether I'll marry a fellow avarice or not. Marrying a glutton wouldn't work for me though... too much food to share. I honestly haven't thought about it." Claire brought her legs up to her chest and just sat, peering at Barth. "Are you excited for year two?" she asked

"I'm glad to be closer to being out of school, if that's what you mean," Barth said. "Hellma pinned a notice about exams to my locker...but Jingleberry showed up. The Headmistress counted it as an exam. I failed, and I'm still a knob, so all that turned out alright. I don't know how I would have explained passing one of Hellma's exams to dad." It was bad enough doing well in classes, without passing a pass/fail exam, too. "You taking yours soon?"

"You're doing well in classes? Wow..." Barth + classes usually = lazy. "I'm going to take my exams soon, I'm really truly almost there. W-what are exams like, Barth?"
