I don't use the expression myself (and I'm usually surprised when I hear other adults use it...it's pretty juvenile), but it doesn't bother me much. It's not something I enjoy hearing or anything, it's just that it doesn't make me angry or offended.
Actually, strike that. It depends on the context. I would be offended to hear it from a supervisor or management at work, but not offended to hear it from some of my buddies (straight or gay). Meh.

Shanna66 i cant really help the fact that i dont care about a word. dyke used to bother me alot but eventually i stopped caring abou tthat too. to me words are just sounds that come out of the mouth. i always learned that not everyone in the world is going to like me, so why should i let what they say bother me? While not everyone is going to like you- there are things that you can do to make things better for people and things you can do that make things worse. If all anyone ever did was hold up their hands and say "not my problem" there's a lot that would be a lot worse now. You think that words are just sounds- but they're more when you examine them. Your brain wires emotions with those sounds- and the more often those sounds fire with those feelings, the stronger the association is.

Me:
I don't give a s**t. There are far more important things to worry about than someone's ignorance.

it does. but i dont let it get to me cuz i know that for one, they dont know that the original definition of gay was joyous, and two, they're poor close minded people who arent comfortable enough with themselves to be able to be accepting of non-strait people.

Like I said in my first post- Pavlov can make a dog drool with the sound of a bell, people can experience feelings of hate, anger, shame etc with the use of a word when it's programmed right- and using it as a synonym for "bad" is a good way to do that.

Most people who use the word, don't mean to cause offense. Intention is what it's all about for me.

Hmm yeah it bothers me a bit but since my brother and his friends are homophobic and say it pretty much all the time, I've just gotten used to hearing it. x.x
