A small noise in the back of his throat at -that name- again, a tightening across his shoulders but he said nothing, trying to remind himself that names didn't matter. Really they didn't...really.
"And what pray tell...are we searching for Madam General Queen?" He asked and carefully slipped forward into the lead. He walked with a light and careful tread of the 'non combatant' preferences he held. Not that he would never fight...he'd just prefer to use his head to his hands. He listened... trying to sort out what in this place was a 'normal' sound and what was out of place...what, more importantly...was dangerous.

Lyra fell in line behind the two -- now out of that hallway she could breath.. a little easier. It was the youma that surrounded them that they would now need her attention. Was it really that bad to pity them...? Could they smell weakness?
Could they smell fear?
She was burning with curiosity while they walked. Why was she here? What did this have to do with the crystal? Was there something here that would tell them what it is? Maybe there was a youma who knew? But she thought youma couldnt speak... maybe the general guess knew something they didn't?
Maybe the corrupted senshi was just thinking too much.
Not wanting to be left behind, she made sure to step up her pace to keep up with them.

"Isn't it obvious what we're looking for, General?" Laurelite answered. Her tone was just a hint of stern, just a dash of disappointed. She'd apparently expected him to have a grasp on what they were doing. A small flash of cool-mint eyes, slightly narrowed but still slightly smiling, locked on Zinkenite's before she continued her explanation. "Your senshi needs instruction on how to use her Crystal properly... and we want to see just how powerful they're capable of being..."
Zinkenite's light-footed gait had led them to what, at some point in time, could have been some sort of park or natural garden. The stone path wound carefully, even artfully, around an expanse of spent and colorless soil, that had the occasional something-or-other poking out of it now and again. Remnants of trees, long-dead and petrified into crumbling stone, could be seen dotting the landscape on one side of the path. Their branches were completely bare, seemingly curling up towards the false sky out of despair and desperation.
Or perhaps they were recoiling at the eerie, unpleasant noise sounding from above.
It was like a cross between nails on a chalkboard and the sputtering of a broken motor. And when it drew near and became louder, the source of the noise cast a most unusual shadow over the group.
"What better place to accomplish both objectives than here?" Laurelite concluded. "Sailor Lyra... summon your crystal, if you please."

"Yoma of course...but why not utilize someone's personal Yoma." He retorted with just a bit more edge than perhaps he should have. "Won't a random yoma...unattached be more likely to encourage the use of her personal magics than her crystal? If you don't know how powerful they are...do we know how they might behave should the wielder come to... a bad turn?" he said with a far more interesting edge to his voice. She must surely know he was related at least by half to Lyra... was this a test of the Crystal or his loyalty?
The question danced forward in his mind and for once he did not push it back. He glanced at Lyra and nodded. "Let us see what you can do with your stone... I'm sure it will be every bit as magnificent as those others I have witnessed."
His gaze flicked back to the General Queen noting something else as well..she called him Zachary when she was... more civil. GENERAL only when disappointed. So what would it take to bring about the name Zinkenite... pride?...or shame.

"You want me to test my crystal on a youma? " she whispered softly but loud enough for them to hear. She looked at them both, dread in her eyes. She had no idea what the crystal did. For all she knew it did nothing and would be a waste of time. Was she willing to take that chance?
Reaching into the bow around her hips she pulled out the crystal and stared woefully down at the object. "Haven't Senshi done enough? " she could not keep eye contact with the two, she knew she spoke out of her rank.

"Would you be willing to risk a youma that's being put to good use, Zinkenite?" Laurelite asked, with a hint of a dark smile. Against the edge of the General's own voice was a silky smoothness that was as unwilling to be cut as oil was to mix with water. "And furthermore... are you doubting your ability to take care of yourself and your senshi?" The General-Queen's eyes narrowed a bit, almost daring. "The dangers you face and the risks you take on the surface can be just as extreme as what you might experience here... so if you would rather leave and run this test somewhere that sacrifices more knowledge for the sake of less risk..."
She let the rest of the sentence hang in the air unspoken, and the implications along with it.
Perhaps Zinkenite was right -- perhaps she was testing more than just Lyra's Crystal.
"Don't forget that the enemy has a few of these Crystals in their possession as well," she continued. "To know what Lyra can do with one... is also for the sake of being prepared for the opposition."
When Lyra summoned her Crystal, the effect was instantaneous. That eerie noise, that had only been circling above earlier, suddenly began careening down towards them -- and with a rustle and a thud, the silhouette of a youma landed itself on one of the petrified trees a few yards away. The creature was something black and birdlike: very much a raven, except as depicted by someone who had never seen them before, through the description of someone who had grown up with a crippling phobia of ravens. Its claws were enormous, its wings tattered, and its face the worst kind of reptilian. With another dissonant croak it shuffled on its perch and leaned towards Lyra, its gaze fixed ravenously on her blood-red prize.

"We have all of us who first traversed this place with General Queen Tanzanite, been made aware of the dangers to ourselves and the senshi whom we have converted." He said, his words precise, his eyes gone pure serious, no spark of anger or otherwise...
"I will not.. 'leave', General Queen, and I will continue to protect those within my care as they have entrusted me to do...I serve the Dark Kingdom and I and mine are willing to take any necessary risk and we will make any necessary sacrifice to reach our ends."
He put no emphasis on any word, there was no malice in his voice, only a deep seated passion that did not so much boil as it sat, smooth surfaced and dangerously quiet waiting to engulf those whom came to close and any information they brought with them.
He didn't say a word to Lyra... not to assuage her concerns or her fears, just turned back to stare at the raven-ish Yoma, magnificent beast he wondered what it might have been in life, his fingers curled and clasped as lightly as they might around an egg shell, palming one of his smoke crystals. He reached silently and placed his goggles over his eyes... better to be prepared though he prayed for Lyra's sake that he did not need to step in. Should he need to... he had other ideas, far more appealing he thought than simply smoke or star seeds.

There were voices around her, voices that blew over her skin like an idle afternoon breeze. She heard them, but she was concentrating too much on what was now looking at her.
The giant raven. It was a horrible looking bird... something one might think of in nightmares. Was this place a living nightmare? Probably. It was sure to haunt her dreams in the very least. Involuntarily, she took a step back. It was larger than any bird she had ever glimpsed, and its eyes were what frightened her. They seemed to be staring down, judgingly. Wanting.
It wasn't until she looked into her palm that she saw what it was looking at. The crystal was warm in her palm as she held it, her eyes were transfixed on it now as well. Gaze was torn from the object, and back towards the bird.
This crystal was the first thing the senshi had ever earned herself. Up until finding it... things were always given to her. Her clothing, food, hell Zac even got her a dorm in a highschool so she can finish her final year of a 'normal' life. Give give give... she never had gotten anything herself. She did not mind the giving, but for once she had something that was hers first. SHE found it. It was not given.
Looking up at the youma, she felt the power of the crystal even more clearly now. wrapping her hand around it, she pulled her fist to her chest just over the gaping hole. "Mine."

Laurelite was quiet, stepping back and fading into a passive role as the scene began to unfold before them. The look in her eyes had changed, though -- there was a new tinge of fierceness to them, almost predatory, as her gaze shifted between the Crystal, its senshi and the youma whose attention it had garnered.
The monster had her beat when it came to ferocious behavior, however. And it seemed that it was not fond of sudden movements.
It was on Lyra like a flash, a flurry of too-sharp talons and singed-looking feathers. One second it was still and tense on the tree -- the next it was tackling the senshi, its talons trying to grapple her wrists and its awful beak making attempts at her Crystal. All the while, it was shrieking with that horrible noise it made, almost unbearably loud now that it was so close.

"Ammolite..." He said his voice almost sharp and warning but he held himself back from stepping in. He wanted her to prove herself... needed her to. Wanted this crystal to be worth its 'salt' and... and what...
Prove that he didn't have to step in and save her? Or... prove something else. If he could answer those questions only he knew, his eyes were locked on the bird, then Lyra... and the crystal before a brief glance at the -hunger- in Laurelite's eyes. He didn't comment, didn't pursue it. It could have been hunger to know what the stone was capable of... or hunger for the crystal itself. But if Beryl herself could not take -his- stone...then what chance had a General Queen, no matter how well studied she was in them.
One day...perhaps... she would find her own, and then what? Now was not the time for his normal wide river of questions though, now was a time of focus, and carefully calculated movements and observation.

(( Sorry for the lag i had to confirm something before i typed.)) In one split second it happened. She was there, staring at the bird. Staking her claim on the object between her fingers... the crystal she had found by accident. The raven that was sitting there a moment before had wanted it. Sort of like a magpie and its love of anything shiny. It wanted her object, but damn well if she was going to let it have it. She smiled at the thought.... it wanted something SHE had. Something that she earned. It was almost enough to make her lose her concentration, but the bird was now spiraling towards her. Creepily enough, she kept that smile on her face. Only Lyra's eyes growing wide was any indication that she was surprised by the sudden movement. She dodged to the side, making a roll to try and get out of the way of the youmas first attack. Warmth beneath her fingers was the warning to something happening. Something was happening. It was only a moment later that everyone in the proximity would feel the flash of power, the feeling of the blood red crystal being used. Before Lyra a miniature nebula stood... and formed. As quickly as the nebula formed, it changed shapes. Still it looked like a swirling vortex of particles.... but it took on a form of insect. Its antenna extending out like mini feelers. It paused, and somehow the corrupted senshi knew it was asking her to designate a target. ...How did she know that? "....Um.." She hesitated, remembering what the senshi did to the youma. Should she have been ok with it attacking her? Blood paid with blood? No... She herself had not commited said crime. In the past maybe, but she was different now. "The crow." She called, pointing a finger at the screeching beast. The little feline sized ant nebula wasted no time and scurried after the youma.

The ant-nebula had scurried its way up the Magpie's foot in a link and continued up its leg, crawling ever further at an impressive speed -- unrelenting against the youma's protests, zipping its way upward and leaving a singing, glowing trail in its wake. Distracted as it was by the fiery creature, Lyra was safe to get to her feet and get some distance away from it.
And then the conjured insect darted into its mouth.
The results were horrific, to say the least.
Everyone present -- even Laurelite -- was forced to take a few steps back as the youma thundered its way around in a flailing circle, screaming in intense pain at the sudden invader in its throat. In some way, it had gotten what it was after: the power of the Blood-Red Crystal was in its possession now, but not quite in the way it had wanted. Instead of getting to feed off of its incredible, delectable energy and magic, it was suffering an undignified demise.
After only a moment or two it had flopped down on the ground, exhausted, the hungry blaze in its eyes extinguished. Bits of feather bent and broke off against the soil, immediately disintegrating into dust.

Honestly, he wasn't sure if he could consider it a triumph or... anticlimactic. It was fantastic B-grade movie fodder, he would have enjoyed it on a weekend most likely.... though the reality of it was that it -smelled- a great deal worse than movies did, burning monstrous feathers was not a sweet aroma, though he was at least... satisfied that the crystal was not only effective but that Lyra remained unscathed.
He nodded his approval, "Not... I think what I might have expected, an fire ant..." he chuckled softly. He glanced to Laurelite, a pondering look in his eyes though whatever questions he had were locked behind those pale blue windows to his soul. "I suppose that -was- better than doing that to some poor lieutenant... " He restrained himself from any jokes regarding 'heart burn' at least.
