As the trudged on, Riitho was elated at the idea of fresh water, so elated in fact that he really hadn't even registered that Tasso had indeed been looking back at him.

Not that she wasn't attractive or anything, cause he had to admit she was. He was such a sucker for those natural colors, they brought out the true beauty of the wild, unlike quite a few others he'd run into. No she was different, and she seemed unattached....

But that wasn't the point! The point was FRESH WATER! That was the prize here, not her....

The idea of fresh water versus muddy puddles made the male's mouth water, and as the two got closer he had to forcibly hold himself back from rushing over with no sense of respect.

With a sharp and quick bow of respect, Riitho spoke up excitedly, this time his voice held a little edge of anticipation, but he still managed to hold onto his manners.

"Thank you so much Tasso.

I don't know if you would be interested, but perhaps I could catch you some fish as a token of my appreciation?"

Riitho was TERRIBLE at catching fish, they were much too quick. But as usual his mind got away from him and he was making a promise he could most likely not go through with, but perhaps, just this once he would catch that fish...

or rather, those fish.

She smiled genuinely. "Sure, if it's not too much trouble. I've never seen anyone catch fish before." Tasso wandered close to the stream, peering into it and looking for fish. It was an uncommon thing to get to eat, and her nostrils fluttered with excitement and eagerness, as if she could sniff the fish out through the water.

Gazing at the garbled reflection of herself that appeared in the steadily moving water, the adolescent female saw the undulating mirror image smile with a timid sort of happiness. She turned and watched Riitho, reading the expressions of his body language with interest. What sort of life did he lead? Was he happy, being alone all the time? She wanted to know more about him, wanted to ask about his life, his childhood, his past, his present, his future. She held her tongue.

"Ah, yeah THAT is the tricky part.

It all depends on the fish, did they feel like swimming today? Or were they more content idly floating under the surface?"

Riitho smiled politely as he attempted to silently wade out into a knee high water. He stared down at the shimmering lake with earnest, looking for the perfect opportunity to strike. But there was a problem, he didn't see a single fish!

Frowning, he wadded a little farther down, attempting to keep his head above the wavy water. As he did so, he noticed a little damn up ahead, it appeared to be freshly built, meaning there was probably a nice supply of fish nearby.

"Looks like we might be in luck!"

He panted as he stopped just short of the area he assessed the fish to be in.

Sure enough there was a nice little grouping of them, and he was determined to catch one, the question was simply how.

Of course he would never admit that out loud, and in an attempt to impress this fine female, he puffed out his chest, and waded into much shallower water, allowing him to lurk silently above the water within perfect reach of the fish.

"See, the trick to catching a fish, is to NOT let it see you coming.."

The male crouched down, with his bottom in the air, his paw hovering over the school of fish, and with one foul sweep of his hand, the water splashed all around, and the wolf's ears perked as he stared at the shore to his side. Flopping on it's bank was a nicely sized fish.

"HA! I caught one!

I-I mean, See! It's easy!"

Now let's just get one more..

Riitho side stepped a couple of feet to the new area the school occupied, and with another sweep he attempted his catch again.

This time he wasn't so lucky, and with an even louder splash down he went right into the water.

“Look, look, you got one!” Tasso shouted excitedly right alongside him, eyes sparkling and paws hopping from side to side. She ran to the fish that had been knocked onto shore and paced a couple of circles around it, then stuck her nose right up to the wiggly creature and give it a good sniff. Unsure as to whether this one was for her or for him, she lifted her head again and stood guard between the fish and the water. She returned to watching Riitho’s technique; maybe if she observed carefully, she’d be able to imitate and catch her own fish when the land was failing to provide a meal.

She was about to jump up and congratulate him on catching another when with a splash he fell. Laughing uncontrollably, Tasso went to the water’s edge and checked to make sure he was okay (and maybe to tease him a little, if the mood proved right).

The water definitely looked less deep when you were standing above it. Riitho took note of that as he paddled his way to the surface once more, shivers running down his spine as he did. It was a wonderful day outside, but the water sure as heck wasn't.

The sound of Tasso's laughter was the first thing to fill his ears as he paddled his way back to the bank, he wondered whether the laughter would continue once he was sopping wet outside of the water. "Oh haha, it's sooo funny!" He snorted jokingly as he crawled onto the bank, and stepped beside the female. "Let's see if you find it as funny when you're the victim!"

With little to warning, the male stood straight and tall and began shaking himself dry. Large droplets of water splashing all across the land as he did so.

She winced, backing away and giggling at the same time that she shut her eyes against the onslaught of water droplets. "Watch it, buddy," she growled playfully - maybe even flirtatiously - with a huge smile on her face. "Keep that up and I might push you back in," she taunted, backing away with a bit of a spring in her step. Without really thinking about it, she gave in to the urge to dip her torso low to the ground, front legs splayed and haunches high in the air.

It had been a long time since she'd last performed a play bow, but, well - there it was. Her tail even waggled a little bit, as if uncertain how but eager to try. The fish was all but forgotten.

Riitho was overwhelmed with excitement as Tasso bowed before him, taunting him endlessly. He just stared at her, a little bit of confusion sliding over his face, in order to hide the smirky expression hidden beneath.

"E-Excuse me? Do my ears still have water in them? Or did you just threaten me?"

By this point, Riitho was practically prancing back and forth on his paws. The anticipation and social interaction he was enjoying was far more than any he'd had in the past.

"Well I don't know about you little lady - but them bes fightin' words where I come from!"

Riitho yipped lightly, and jumped back a step, forcing himself into the same playful position he had found Tasso still holding.

"Still feeling tough now?"

Riitho glared playfully down at his companion before preparing for what he assumed would be - a full frontal assualt.

Tasso’s instincts warred within her. She wanted to impress this wolf, and part of her thought that if she suddenly unleashed the full force of her brute strength and training upon him, her ferocity would be pleasing to him. It was, after all, the way to gain praise from her father. And he seemed to be inviting her to fight. Spars could be fun.

But part of her insisted that that wasn’t what he wanted. He had responded to her playfulness, so maybe he was expecting play. Not that Tasso was really sure how. Games all involved some sort of violence, didn’t they? Uncertainty took her, and the waggle of her tail slowed as she became less confident in her actions. What did he expect of her? What was she supposed to do?

Glancing around, as if for some sort of clue, her attention was drawn to the water. Splashing – splashing had started this. Maybe that was a good way to play with this new friend of hers. She grinned at him and then darted for the stream, romping in and kicking up water wildly, and dove in to the deepest part. Lurking as long as her lungs would allow, Tasso waited a bit to see what he would do, ran out of air, and then through the surface at Riitho.

Riitho was completely ready for a spar, though to be fair he was completely unaware of who he was really dealing with. Which left him more than a little let down when the female dove into the water. Perhaps he had scared her away with his weak attempts at flirting with her, or maybe she had something else in mind? But what the heck did jumping in the water have to do with any of this?

The male was utterly lost, and took to staring at the water with his confused look, awaiting the female's resurface. Which after some thought probably wasn't the best idea. It took quite a while for Tasso to resurface, but when she did it startled Riitho into jumping quite a few inches off the ground, before falling back and landing not so lithely on his paws forcing him to slide right into the water next to Tasso.

As he resurfaced, Riitho was still trying to catch his breath, not cool Riitho. He needed to relax, he looked so weak trying to catch his breath like this. He was supposed to be a big male wolf. Not a puppy.

"I'm beginning to think you just like to get me wet." Riitho mumbled as he jokingly glared over at the female obviously just as soaking wet as he was. "If that was your goal you could have just asked." He barked as he waded his position into something more comfortable. He was now facing Tasso; his toothy grin spreading wider across his face.

As he stared at her, some deeply buried animal instinct took over the male, and forced him to reach over and place a small lick right next to the female's eye, wiping away a few globs of dribbling water. Of course, if she ever asked that's what he'd SAY he'd been doing.
