-DAY TWO- Apries trotted up the hill, body covered in dried salt water and head held in a slightly akward position as he tried to carry the large fish he'd caught. Really he'd gotten lucky and the fish had swum too close to shore when the tide went down. Of course that had resulted in an interesting scramble when Pri discovered the water came back!
In his head he was mentally stuttering. What on earth was he going to say to Lani-Ai, trotting up looking like a doofus and trying to carry this fish, which made his look more like a doofus? Last night he'd left, practically babbling at her, and had totally ignored her question. He felt his ears and tail droop. Yup, she probably thought he was insane.
She probably wasn't even there. He had a hard time believing she'd really sat there for three whole years, after he'd gotten away and thought about it. She'd probably said hours, or maybe days? Really, who would sit something for three years just waiting? She seemed so nice and determined, Pri could see her just sitting around.
Well, too late either way. Just five more steps and he'd be within view of the clifftop. Four. Three. Two. One more step...

Lani-Ai turned when she heard footsteps, having awoken earlier at the sound of birds. Now, for food she often waited for something to come near the cliff. Sometimes she waited for days! Today, her stomach rumbled as she stared at the bird, ruffling her messy hair into a straight wave, mouth opening into a yawn. The vixen's head turned though when she heard footsteps, as stated earlier, and locked on the male she had seen before.
He had come back! Truly, and with a fish? It took a second for her to piece together what he had said the day before, blinking at the male. She smiled at him, amused by the way he struggled with the fish. He was sweet, but, silly~
"Good morning." She greeted, suddenly stopping. Wait, what if he hadn't gotten the fish for her? What if she was assuming! And she was a mess, she hadn't cleaned herself yet! Oh, oh now she was nervous again!

Pri's head and ears perked up a bit more at Lani-Ai's enthusastic greeting. "Morning," he called back. Though with the fish in his mouth, it came out sounding more like, "Mrnif."
He stepped up his pace just a little, then turned shy again five feet away. He ducked his head again and moved forward, dropping the fish on the ground and grinning sheepishly. "Hey there. I, er, got this for you." He nudged the fish with his nose, feeling himself blush. He really hoped it was something edible, not being familiar with ocean food.

Lani-Ai blinked when the male let out a muffled response, giggling slightly, if nervously. When he set the fish down she blinked at him, blushing slightly. "T-Thank you." She said, stammering as she bent down. She took a bite, tail wagging softly. A big fish when he had never been to the ocean before? Lucky him. It didn't take long for her to blush darker and realize she we being rude, lifting her head and placing her nail into the fish, cutting into its flesh until it was cut half open. She tugged until it separated, and nudged the fish half she hadn't nibbled on to the male, smiling.
"So you don't have to go back down there for food later." She said, going back to nibbling on the fish, which was very edible indeed. In her mind she was reeling. He had come back, and with food! Just for her. This was new, this charity and kindness, it confused and delighted her. She knew he'd be on his way soon enough, but it was pleasant knowing she wasn't the only fox in the world.

"A-Ah, thank you," Pri said, bowing his head and nibbling on part of the fish half Lani-Ai had given him. Truthfully he wasn't all that hungry, and his stomach was alternatively knotting up or doing flip flops. Not condusive to an appetite. But he'd been taught not to waste, and that it was rude to ignore a lady's wishes, so he made an effort.
He only managed to finish half of it though, then sat back upright. "Ah. I wasn't sure if you'd still be here today or not," he said, putting up a small smile on his face. He didn't want to seem like he'd been anxious over it, cause that was probably just a touch creepy. Still, he'd been remarkably glad to see Lani-Ai when he rounded the corner.
It didn't help that she looked remarkably cute with her fur ruffled like that...

Lani-Ai smiled as he ate, pleased he was enjoying the food native to the ocean. She eyed the male until he finished, almost forgetting to eat herself! He was so sweet! She pawed at the fish, finishing because it'd been awhile since she last ate, and smirking at the male. Her eyes flicked to the sea until he spoke, head turning.
"Well, I don't leave this spot. So I'll always be right here." Her voice trembled at the last word, however for once the tears didn't arrive. Instead, she smiled sweetly at him and distracted him by pointing to the water. "Did you see any shells while you were down there?" She asked, attempting to fix her fur now that she was full.

Pri started, then felt himself blushing a bit more. "Ah, I-I saw a few, yes." In truth he'd barely noticed them, being so preoccupied with figuring how to get the fish out of the shallow pool left by the tide, then running from the tide as it rose. Since he figured he'd die of embarassment to admit it though, he kept the details omitted.
Time for a subject change.
"Ah, you mean you're here all the time?" Pri frowned. "What about food and water? You never leave at all?"

She blinked at his frown, head nodding softly, eyes lowering to the ground. "It's not that hard, actually." She whispered, tail flicking side to side. "In the morning, dew arises. I drink that. If it rains, I can drink that, too. Food comes and goes, often a rabbit will come nearby and I eat that. Well, often is every few days. If something comes close enough I catch it and eat it."
With this she nodded, it was natural for her at this point. She looked at him, smiling softly and touching his paw with hers. "Did I say something wrong? I'm sorry, don't frown please. I mean... uhm! I mean you c-can frown, I'm not trying to control you! Oh.. Oh I'm sorry." Her paw was removed, head lowering as she blushed and bit her lip, knowing her stammer was embarrassing.

Pri made a conscious effort to relax his facial muscles, and if he didn't manage to completely lose the troubled look at least he wasn't frowning. "It's just.... Why don't you leave this spot," Pri asked, staring intently at Lani-Ai as though hoping to read her very thoughts. "I can understand living in a certain area, but to limit yourself to staying in one spot for years... Don't you get lonely?

Lani-Ai blinked at the male, eyes flicking to the side, biting her bottom lip. "I... Because if I leave I'll never know if he came while I was gone." She whispered, however stopped and pawed at the ground. "Sometimes I get lonely, but, it'll be okay when he comes back. I know he'll come back eventually...." She whimpered slightly, now seeming uncertain. Apries was making her feel terrible at this point. It made her worry, worry that he wouldn't come back. The way he had emphasized years.... Was it so strange to wait for someone you loved? Loved... Of course she loved him! Right? Right! She needed to stop doubting that! He'd come back!
Tears had sprang up at this point, body trembling slightly as a tear fell. "I-I know h-he'll come back. If I-I leave he'll b-be gone. I made a promise to w-wait."

Pri crept forward. He made sure he didn't move too suddenly, so that Lani-Ai wasn't startled by anything he did. Just as slowly and delibately as he moved, he put his nose under her chin and gently tilted her face up, then pulled back to look at her tear-streaked face.
"Don't cry," he said softly, trying to put as much comfort in his words as possible. "Please don't cry." He really didn't know if the male was dead or had ditched Lani-Ai, and tried to hold on to his neutral frame of mind. But it was hard, oh it was so hard!, when Lani-Ai looked so heart-broken and lonely!
He wanted to offer physical comfort, but worried that it would be taken the wrong way. Especially given how emotional Lani-Ai was right now. So he tried speaking softly and making comforting sounds, and a small crease in his brow betrayed just how worried he was, how his own heart was breaking for this vixen he barely knew.

[ Mini Time Skip
Lanj-Ai had calmed enough to look at him without sniffling. He had stayed beside her as she talked, or rather, he talked while she whimpered and tried to hold back tears, failing. However, he had finally got a response from her that wasn't a whimper, his soft words comforting. When he had first lifted her chin Lani-Ai had stopped crying for a brief second, shocked by the contact and oddly comforted. The shock had subsided when he slipped away, but now here she was, drying her eyes with her tail.
"Thank you." She whispered, looking at the male. A stranger yesterday, and here he was, comforting her while she cried. It felt better though, felt like she had talked to someone and had herself listened to, despite all she said was tears and mumbled words.

Pri chuckled weakly. "Don't mention it, that's what friends do," he said. He was glad that Lani-Ai had finally stopped crying, but watched anxiously to make sure the flood wasn't going to start again. What she needed was something to cheer her up....
An idea popped into his brain. "I've got to run now, but I'll be back tomorrow. Promise!" He stood and ran forward a few steps, looking back anxiously over his shoulder, then facing forward again and dashing down the path to the ocean.
It wasn't until he was almost completely out of calling distance that he skidded to a halt, remembering something. "My name's Apries," he called out to Lani-Ai, then turned and vanished out of sight towards the beach.

Lani-Ai smiled when he said they were friends, tail wagging. "We are friends." She mumbled softly, happy to be able to call him her friend. When the male mentioned leaving, her ears lowering and looking down at the ground. Oh, he had to go? He ran off, however when he turned around and called out his name her ears lifted, smile on her face.
Apries? What a great name! She smiled brightly, happy to not only have a friend, but also his name. Apries the scarfed male. She pawed at the ground, suddenly remembering his promise. He'd be back tomorrow. Again. Third day in a row. He was returning to see her. To spend time with her.
Why did this make her so happy?

-MIDNIGHT- Pri sighed and scrapped at the sand. He'd had to set his scarf aside, or it would have been ruined with all the salt water and grit he was getting all over himself! But this was for Lani-Ai, so he was going to do whatever it took!
He looked up from his spot on the beach. He could just barely make out what he thought was the tip of the cliff she was sitting on. She wasn't at the exact tip, of course, and she'd have been too far away to see if she was. But it was still a nice to be able to see where she was.
Pri smiled, then got back to his task.
