Figuring that remaining positive would be the best in a situation such as this Violet only smiled at Makani hiding her slight disappointment. “Well that only means this task before will not be easy, not that it is insurmountable. If we can find that rock than I am certain your memory will come back; and we can find our way back to where your sister was. Who knows perhaps she left a message scratched into some bark for you. Was this hill uphill, downhill, or on level ground?” She wondered if asking such questions might bring back the male’s memory a bit more.

Makani tried to recall the moment. It was hard, since there wasn't any real significance attached to that hike that made an impression in his mind. It seemed like forever ago that it had happened.
"Level," he finally said, "but there was an uphill slope not too far from it." Makani shook his head to clear his mind, then looked at Violet. "Really, I shouldn't be imposing my own personal quest on you when I am sure you have better things to do with your time. It seems quite rude and selfish of me."

“Mmm.. well that narrows things down a bit. Level ground in a forest may not seem like much but knowing it’s by an uphill incline does help a bit.” Violet’s tail swished softly while she thought about how best to go about finding the most likely location of the hill in the wood. Looking at Makani she didn’t bother to hide her warm smile. Wether Makani knew it or not he was being very cute and acting very much the part of a gentlefox. “You are imposing nothing on my person. I am venturing to help. I have no other obligations that keep me from aiding you. Still I am very honored to meet such a honorable fox such as yourself sir.” Violet blushed a bit.

Makani tilted his head to the side just slightly, examining Violet. A corner of his mouth quirked up in a smile. "I see. Then I thank you for your help, and am deeply in your debt."
He turned his head to look at the trees around them. "Any suggestions to how we should start? I was simply wandering and trying to keep to a general area in an attempt to learn the terrain. Thankfully food and water is plentiful enough."

MMmm well I’m glad to see that Makani can smile and see that he isn’t alone in this. Being alone is horrible. Still he didn’t need to say he is in my debt. I’m forcing my help on him after all.
“That is a good question. We should figure out a way to mark off the areas that you’ve checked. We could pile up some stones or leave some scratches on the bark of trees. This will also help us from getting lost or checking the same area multiple times. It will take a while to check this way but hopefully with two of us checking it should be able to go relatively quickly. At midday we can meet up in a designated spot and any possible areas of interest can be examined closer until twilight. Does that sound good? I’m open to any suggestions you might have on this.” Waiting Violet wondering if Makani could improve her spur of the moment plan.

Makani tilted his head ever so slightly to the side. "I'm fairly familiar with the immediate area, having been wandering around it the last few days," he said. "My scent should indicate what areas I have covered, and which I haven't. I realize that splitting up covers more ground, but what happens if another storm sweeps through? It'd hate to think you got stuck in a bad spot because you were trying to assist me."

Tilting her head Violet thought about it for a moment. “I suppose that’s true. I only considered getting separated and simply meeting up again.. if a storm did come then you are right we could get into some trouble. ” Trotting alongside of Makani does seem more appealing since then I will have someone to speak with, still it is not right of me to be so selfish. He is here to look for his sister and I should focus on helping him rather than satisfying my geed for conversation. So I am glad he is the one to suggest sticking together. “Let us go then warm-hearted and noble gentle fox. The sooner we begin to look for your sister the sooner we might find her.” She took a few steps ahead so Makani wouldn't see her blush.

Makani was glad Violet had already moved ahead of him. He felt his blush returning, and knew if he tried to speak that he'd be tripping over his tongue. He followed after her and gave his mind time to organize itself before he replied, so he wouldn't make a bigger fool out of himself than he already had.
"Kind of you to say, though wait until you get to know me," Makani finally said. "You might just change your might about the warm-hearted and noble gentlefox bit." A wry smile twitched across his lips. Indeed, that was the first time anyone had ever said anything like that to him.

“Mmm.. perhaps. Though only time with you will tell for sure.” Not looking back Violet thought for a moment. Not likely. You’re a family fox Makani. You worry over your sister and your nice enough to worry over a stranger to you. My opinion of you will definitely stay high no matter what. After all there are a number of foxes who don’t care half as much and don’t bother showing how much they do care. “Still my opinion of you now is quite good so why not let me hold on to this image for a while in my mind. It seems so very interesting.” At this point she turned her head back to Makani and smiled. Her tail wagging slightly.

Makani snorted. "Impertinent mynx," he said, though a quick smile softened the words. "Very well, I'll let you hold on to your fond opinion of me. Just don't say I tried to decieve you if it comes crashing down around your ears!"
Speaking of crashing down around their ears....
The faintest rumbling sound, like thunder, reaching Makani. He paused, ears pricked forward, then looked up at the sky. It seemed clear overhead, but he couldn't really get a good view with all the trees in the way... It might be nothing though, they were close to the mountains and sounded tended to carry here.

Blushing deeply Violet tried not to think about what she just said. Impertinent is fine but a mynx is something pretty and sassy! I’m not like that. Surely what he said is in jest only? Or perhaps it doesn’t mean the same thing in his homeland as it does here. Yes that must be it.
Frowning Violet stopped and listened to the noise. It was loud. The sky was clear but a sudden storm coming in really wouldn’t surprise her. What was more worrisome though was the possibility of a landslide so close to the mountains. If the sound continued Violet and Makani would have to run and find shelter. She really hopped it was only a storm and bursts of thunder. At least with a storm they could hide in a cave. A landside would be more treacherous.

"Hmmm, perhaps we had best focus on finding a shelter, and leave looking for trails at the back of our minds at the moment. Snow sounds bad, but rocks and mud will do the job too," Makani said, echoing Violet's thoughts.
Makani had something of a complex. Once he was at least in even the tiniest part responsible for someone, he acted like he was entirely responsible. Like he had to prevent the tiniest injury or ill-doing. It didn't even matter if he liked the person or not, he took it all very seriously. That was probably a large part in why he was so finicky and snobbish. And now here he was, with Vi...
It didn't really matter that she'd have been in the area and her fate via the weather would have been the same whether she'd met him or not. Now that Makani had decided to keep an eye out for her, he instantly started worrying and blaming himself that if anything happened to her now it'd be his fault cause he opened his stupid mouth and told an outsider about his search, let her in. That's why he tried to keep up a barrier, he'd break himself trying to look after too many friends.

Violet was touched that Makani was taking time to think of her. Of course shelter would benefit him too, but he had ‘we’ not ‘I’. That made all the difference in the world to Violet. “Shelter sounds good.” The rumbling noise seemed to drone out, but it could have been a small slide before a big one.. or a long echo of thunder. Vi wasn’t sure if she wanted to sit about and listen to find out. “Lets take cover away from the mountain and further in where there are many trees to cover us. I don’t like the idea of ending up trapped in a cave if this is a land slide prone area. Anything could set off a second slide.. and it could be greater than the first. As for a storm.. well.. I’d rather be under trees and away from the mountain just in case it isn’t a storm. ”
Vi wore her heart out on her sleeve. She flinched as she heard a sharp cracking echo. Another burst of thunder or a large rock falling and crashing into another? This was the last place Vi wanted to be. Her ears flipped back and held tight to her skull in worry she make a small noise. Her concern wasn’t for herself but rather how could she care for Makani if he got hurt? She didn’t know enough about the plants in the area to make a good poultice if he wound up wounded. They had to get moving. Facing away from the mountain Violet started looking for the best placed to head. The land wasn’t even with its own little mini valley’s and hills. Sticking to the hills would be best and they could venture a bit furthered down but stay out the valleys if a wind picked up.

Makani nodded. "I might actually be able to help with this one," he said, lightly brushing past Violet and taking the lead. It was kinda funny that he even knew which direction the mountain was. The one reason he'd noted it was to flat out tell Miliani that they weren't climbing over that thing, and make sure she didn't try to steer them that way. Seemed like his little selfish fit had paid off in the end though, and he steered himself and Vi deeper into the forest.

Her fur tingling from where Makani had brushed past her Violet followed the male after a small inhalation of breath. “I-I’m glad you know what to do.” Violet was at a loss for words for some reason. It was odd to let someone else take the lead. Before this the only people in charge of Violet where the older members of the tribe, and of course her mother. To just let a stranger take charge new to Violet. She felt perfectly safe in Makani’s paws though.
