Manelesi set off in the gazelles' direction, loping easily, but saving his strength for the burst of speed that was all-important for a cheetah's hunt to be successful. Without the raw power of a lion to bring the prey down, or even the finer strength and stealth of a leopard, cheetahs needed that speed to unbalance their next meal and bring it down without sustaining injuries themselves.
The gazelle's were close, and there were several young fawns as part of the herd. A fawn would be a decent meal for two cheetahs, and easy to bring down, especially if one wandered away.

Ayumi followed his lead, letting herself drop just a touch behind him on his right side. She hoped that he was going to take the lead - it would be nice to follow directions instead of having to decide everything. It made it nice, hunting with another cheetah instead of a slower species. This was going to be over quick once they got going.

Manelesi gestured to a fawn that was edging away from the herd to try out its legs. The perfect target. He cocked his head to the left, indicating that Ayumi should circle in from that direction, and he began circling to the right. Ideally, they would converge on the fawn and take it down together.
After a few minutes of getting into position, Manelesi sprung from cover at full speed, watching for Ayumi to enter his field of vision so they could take the fawn down together.

Ayumi was quick to catch on to what Manelesi was signalling. It was all a matter of how the prey would react to their skillful hunting.
The female cheetah was a little proud of her skills, but it was nice to see someone else who was at least as good as she was, if not better.
It was over quick. Ayumi was happy about that. It would be a big blow to her ego if she wasn't able to catch a fawn with help.
Letting herself catch her breathe, she smiled, a genuine one, at Manelesi. "That was great."

Manelesi waved her praise off with a paw. "I couldn't have done it without you. Now, we should eat quickly, I'm sure your friend is starting to miss you and I wouldn't want to keep you from her for long. I feel like we've been out here for quite a while. Let's tuck in."
Manelesi always did enjoy fawn. Juicy and tender- delicious.

Delicious indeed. She was trying to eat as daintily as she could, but it was difficult when you had something so yummy in front of you!
"Nah, she can wait," Ayumi said between bites. "She's busy enough that she probably wouldn't worry about me for at least another day." She licked her jaws, wanting to minimize the amount of cleaning she was going to have to do later.
"I can return later tonight. Let's enjoy this small bit of time shared." It was nice being with another cheetah, a thought that never could quite leave her mind.

Manelesi smiled, as much to himself as to her.
"Then I shall enjoy the pleasure of your company for at least a bit longer," and returned to the meal. The day was working out wonderfully.
