He stepped back when she approached him, narrowing his eyes in warning. He wasn’t going to be the first to throw a punch if she expected a fight, but he’d defend himself if necessary, regardless of their respective genders. He was against killing, sure, but he wasn’t against hitting a girl if she deserved it.

“You think your power is enough?” Ganymede challenged her, turning to keep his eyes on her as she passed him and went to the edge of the building. “You think anyone’s is?”

He didn’t know which side had the bigger advantage now, or which would be the winning side in the end, but he knew which side was more cohesive, and it wasn’t the senshi. Power meant very little when the enemy was more organized.

“And you can’t use history to defend yourself like that. History played out the way it did because killing was what people chose to do. No one made them. They did it because it was easier than the alternative.” Talking was always more difficult, but never impossible—or so he thought. He refused to believe otherwise. “But it’s cowardly,” he continued, “and if you start killing as a means to an end then you’re no better than they are.”

"I definitely think my power is enough in some instances, yes. The combined power of our side of the war can win this. I firmly believe that. I think even you could win your fair share of battles if you had to. It's really surprising what a person can do when cornered. But I have no doubts that during those World Wars, talking didn't work. That's why they had to choose the option of killing - there was no workable alternative. That's what the Negaverse is doing to us, and to innocent people, right now. They kidnap, murder and who knows what else to innocent people who can't defend themselves. The Negaverse didn't give us a choice."

And that's exactly how she thought of things. Eternal Sailor Ares taught her quite a bit about the war since she was saved by the more powerful senshi. She admired Ares for the way she stood up to the Negaverse and was willing to go where other senshi dare not. Kallichore herself had never taken the life of a Negaverse officer, so he had no blood on her hands. Yet.

"Maybe I don't care whether or not I'm better than they are," she said quietly, but she did not turn to face Ganymede. "All I care about is doing what I can to keep the people safe. If I can find an alternative that works, I'd be more than happy to consider it. But in my experience, talking doesn't do anything other than invite a weapon into your diaphragm."

The more Ganymede spoke to her, the crazier and more delusional he thought Kallichore was. Saving innocent people was something he understood; he would do the same. But killing was not an option he was willing to take, under any circumstances – or at least none that he could imagine. He hadn’t even wanted to kill the man who’d gone for his starseed, not because he felt anything for him – he was more afraid of him than anything else – but because he didn’t care to have that mark on his conscience, that blood on his hands. Besides, he was pretty sure the death wouldn’t be appreciated by those who called themselves the man’s allies.

Perhaps he was naïve. Perhaps he didn’t fully understand. He could only base his opinions on what he knew, what he’d experienced already. He knew who his enemy was well enough, but his allies didn’t always feel like his allies.

“It doesn’t seem as if very many people are concerned with combining out powers,” he observed, choosing not to contradict her on the topic of war. Continuing that argument wasn’t going to lead them anywhere, especially when neither of them seemed inclined to change their point of view. “We’re not exactly the most organized bunch, are we? Aside from you, I’ve only really spoken to three others.” Europa, Gianfar, the dark haired wimpy looking one who’d at least been somewhat sympathetic toward him… There’d been a few others who’d said something to him, but they hadn’t been especially nice or helpful, and Ganymede wouldn’t be upset if he never ran into them again.

Ganymede was right to a point - many senshi were simply leaderless and milling about in a disorganized group. Many no doubt were looking skyward for the sacred and holy moon princess that had not shown herself at all during the war. That was what made Kallichore doubt her existence - if she was out there at all, at least some inkling of proof would have been found ny now. Some eye witnesses, some relics, something. The entire lack of information on this holy moon goddess made the senshi think everyone else was busy chasing a myth when they should have been paying attention to what was happening around them.

"No, unfortunately, many other senshi don't seem to care. But some are organized and very efficient." She spoke from experience, for she was a part of a group she had described. It made her very proud to speak so candidly and truthfully about them. "I'm surprised that other senshi haven't spoken to you. And I'm rather disappointed more of them haven't formed groups. I know not everyone agrees on what should be done, but running around as individuals verses an organized opposition... it's just stupid. It's suicide."

Shaking her head, she turned around to face him. She wouldn't offer him to the Blood Moon Court since he lacked their ideals. It would be pointless. Still, letting him know that organized groups existed out there might help fuel a fire underneath him. "I feel like a breakthrough is on the horizon."

Ganymede had no idea if he believed in any moon princess. He supposed it was entirely possible that she was real, given that things he previously hadn't thought existed were, in fact, a reality. If she was real, and she was out there somewhere, she wasn't any concern of his. She'd had plenty of time to come back already. He wasn't going to sit around waiting, or searching for something that might never be found.

"In their defense, as much as I hate to defend them," he responded, frowning as he remembered the various looks and attitudes he'd received some months ago, "I'm not always the easiest person to talk to."

Their conversation alone was proof enough of that. He was suspicious, anxious, and defensive; he was somewhat uncooperative and had a habit of arguing and debating things when he wasn't even all that well informed. He knew he was as much at fault as the others were, but it was difficult to react in any other way when the situation was so tense. He was just waiting for the next bad thing to happen, and the stress of it set him on edge.

He stared at Kallichore for a few moments longer. He doubted they'd ever come to an agreement, at least not on the topics of war and murder, but they would at least have to coexist. "I'll believe it when I see it," he told her. "Let's just hope it does us all some good."

You're not the easiest person to talk to? Understatement of the year. she thought with a frown.

"I know it will do some good. I've seen the results. I'm sad to say I wasn't part of it. It was before my time, but I'm eager to make up for that." Somehow, I feel like I'm having to make up for a great deal of lost ground but... I love it. How could loving something this much be a bad thing? How she could push herself beyond her limits in this form was something Kallichore was still trying to figure out. But somehow, she couldn't shake the feeling that Europa and Ganymede were a part of it. Was this what they were talking about when they spoke of destiny?

Kallichore didn't like not having control over something like that. How many more of the Jovian moons were out there? "Maybe, before you know it, you'll see me leading a charge straight into the Negaverse. I would love to see the looks on their faces..."

Ganymede almost snorted, completely unimpressed by her ambitions. "I'll watch you lead a charge, but I won't be the one to cart your dead body off the battlefield," he said. He didn't have trouble imagining it, not after the enormous battles he'd been in, and all that he'd seen during them. It had seemed like a dream at the time, but now he could no longer pretend it wasn't real.

Didn't she value her own life at all? He found it hard to believe that she did if she'd so carelessly throw it away like that. And for what? Glory? What were any of them fighting for? Some moon princess? Their friends and family, maybe. Ganymede could like that answer a little better, but he doubted their friends and family would like to see any of them dying for them.

"You're crazy," he added, and he didn't feel at all guilty if he happened to sound insulting. If she actually wanted to throw herself into the midst of a bunch of murderers and lunatics -- for whatever reason -- and attempt to take them on, then she was just as crazy as they were, in his opinion.

"That's precisely the point."

She lifted her arms, the tattered bits of her sleeves catching and swaying in the wind. Their holes made her look like a white block of Swiss cheese, but she wasn't so self-conscious about it anymore. In fact, one look at Ganymede's fuku made her glad hers looked the way it did. She'd be much too distracted by the frilly thing he had on. Kallichore almost felt bad for the boy. Almost. "I wouldn't lead a charge unprepared. I need to do more research - extensive research - before plowing head first into something. I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid."

If she could survive an assault and live to tell the tale, complete with new and interesting (and useful!) data, then she'd be all for it. That would be the best case scenario. Whether or not her plans lived up to that standard was left to be seen. Somehow, she doubted Ganymede would be there to watch. "Either way, I feel the winds of change blowing through here. Maybe you'll reconsider grouping up in the future. It may be our best bet to keeping everyone safe."

"I don't recall ever saying I would never 'group up,'" Ganymede countered. "Didn't I just finished pointing out the disorganization? You think I like that? You think it makes me feel better that I've more or less been wandering around by myself without a clue? Yes, that's partly my fault. I don't exactly like this, and no, I'm not going to go around looking for people and begging for acceptance, but I'm also not against allying myself with people who know what they're doing and have a shred of morality left in them."

He supposed it was a bit hypocritical of him to be concerned with things like morals, but he had his limits the same as everyone else. He would not kill another human being, for whatever reason.

It was the insane, near suicidal fighting that he hated the most, that made him question whether or not these people placed any sort of value in their lives. Defending the innocent was great, but who would defend them once they were all dead? How was any of this worth dying for in the first place?

"I didn't ask for this, but if I'm going to do it then I'd prefer more cohesion and less crazy," he said. "Am I a fighter? Not really, but I can fight if I have to, and I'll protect innocent people if I see them being attacked. But I am not going to lose myself to all this, or compromise what I believed in before simply because I've been fated or chosen to have a part in this."
PostPosted: Thu Jun 23, 2011 8:10 pm

"You certainly seemed adverse to the idea earlier." Kallichore stated, hands on her hips. "I don't recall asking for this either, but I rather like it. I didn't have a nice life before this. This gives me purpose, and I have people who depend on me just as I depend on them. I understand where you're coming from - to a degree." The senshi of madness resigned herself to knowing that they may never see eye to eye on this particular subject. Gaymede didn't like being a senshi, and Kallichore believed it was a blessing, an essential part of oneself. Besides, she had a duty to Ares to uphold.

She nodded after a few near silent moments in thought. "I'm glad that, even if you don't want this job or didn't ask for it, you're still willing to protect people. That's admirable, for what it's worth." Somehow she doubted the boy would really care, but it felt better just to say it.

"There now. Shall I leave you be then?" Truth be told, Ganymede didn't seem like he was thoroughly enjoying the other senshi's company, and Kallichore felt like she wasn't making a great deal of progress speaking to him. Still, being another Jovian senshi made him a person of interest to her despite their differing philosophies. They were both moons of Jupiter. There had to be some significance in that, even if it wasn't readily apparent to her. More research would be necessary.

Ganymede chose not to continue the argument. It wasn’t worth the effort, and he didn’t think much more was any of Kallichore’s business. He wouldn’t necessarily call his life before “nice” either, but this didn’t make it any better. In fact, he was pretty sure it made things worse. Just one more thing for him to worry about, and it being something he hadn’t even wanted… it left him feeling extremely bitter about things. He’d didn’t feel as if he had much of a purpose yet. He’d never really made it a point to go looking for one, but then he didn’t know where to begin, or even what he’d find and if he'd like it once he did.

“You can leave whenever you want to,” he told her. It wasn’t so much that he didn’t enjoy company – hers specifically, at the moment – but that he felt she was completely wrong in her way of thinking, and it was frustrating that one of the first handful of senshi he’d actually been able to have a decent length conversation with turned out to have crazy delusions of grandeur. “I’m not keeping you here. You’re the one who came to find me.”

He was being rude. He knew he should stop. If he kept going, he was just going to continue alienating himself from the others. He didn’t want that. As much as he hated nearly everything about this, he hated being alone through it all more. He simply didn’t know how to go about correcting that.

“I suppose I’ll be seeing you,” he tried to at least seem as if he weren’t writing her off completely. “I’m not strictly against being contacted, so long as it’s for something important. I meant what I said about protecting innocent people. I was innocent once, too, and I haven’t forgotten what it’s like to be in that position.”

Kallichore couldn't help but giggle. It was a small, very quiet laugh, but a laugh nonetheless. She had a genuine smile on her face and covered it with part of her hand. Once she was finished, she sighed happily. "Our philosophies aside, I think I like you, Ganymede." she admitted. It was very odd for her to do so, but she admired his curt attitude and sticking to his guns, so to speak, the way that he did. There was something to be said about fighting, or not fighting, for what one believed in. She could never fault someone for that, for it would be hypocritical and in bad taste besides.

She turned to face the nightlife of Destiny City, watching as even in these early hours, some businesses were receiving customers. Some warehouses still had workers. Some clubs were still awake and dancing as if it was still nine at night. The senshi wrapped her arms behind her. Perhaps one day all the moons of Jupiter could join together and fight against evil. But where would that leave Kallichore and the Blood Moon Court? She sighed.

Quickly, she turned to face the other senshi and gave him a quick and polite bow before jumping off the building and disappearing into the night. She had some thinking, and some research, to do.
