Lilias tilted her dead to see into the new cave, a red claw the size of her fist greeted her. Aha a crab. She grabbed a sunken stick and pressed the point into the middle of the claw. As she had predicted the claw clamped down hard on the stick and she swiftly pulled back. The huge crab came out all legs spread. It seemed stunned that she had tricked it. Lilias returned to the surface with her catch. After she rose she swam toward Scarath to show him her catch and put said catch in the basket with her lobster. She wondered if S'kor had had any luck yet. "Has S'kor caught anything yet?" she asked the dragon, expecting a nod or shake of the head from the great bronze. She clambered onto his back and dragged the irritated crab up after her. She avoided the big red claw when it tried to get her face and quickly wrapped a twisted piece of bark over the heavy pincer and tied it. This would prevent grumpy from hurting his basketmate.

S'kor hugged the bottom and peered into ever crack he could find. Who knew where those pesky things were lurking. A looming crack looked promising. He swam closer and peered inside. Just barely visible was a couple of long antenna waving slowly. His pulse quicked with excitement. He had finally found his prey. Now the question became, how to catch it without getting pinched?
He didn't have long as he needed air again, and soon. Inching his hand closer for the perfect moment, S'kor readied to grab the lobster. He slit his hand forward and grabbed the antenna when they came together as quickly as the water allowed. With a firm tug he expected his prize to come out; to his utter surprise he got a two for one deal. S'kor's exclamation of surprise came out in a cloud of bubbles.
Remembering how Lilias had held onto them, he shifted his grip. Wouldn't want to loose them after all that hard work. Now seriously needing air, the dragonrider shove off the bottom and swam toward the surface. Breaking into air he let out a yodel of delight and lifted his catch high for Lilias and Scarath to see.
Scarath was just about to shake his head in answer to Lilias when he felt S'kor's jubilation. The dragon gave a happy warble of delight. He has caught two! His eyes whirled a green as his rider came to the surface. He knew S'kor would not let him down. Well done Mine. They will be most tasty. Anything caught by His had to be good.

Lilias started a little as the dragon bugled under her. Apparently S'kor had indeed caught something. She waited for the display of the elusive catch. S'kor came up with not one but TWO lobsters. "Wow S'kor, well done!" she called to the dragon rider. She waited and held the catch bag open for him before slipping back into the water. This time she checked a patch of seaweed on the lake floor, but she found nothing and returned to the surface to talk to the dragon rider about his awesome catch.

Scarath wiggled in excitement as his rider came close. His had caught two! They look tasty Mine. That one is very large. I can't wait to get back.
S'kor sputtered on a couple large waves the dragon created. "Scarath! Stop, you're too big to be doing that. Besides you'll dump Lilias off!" He swam over, being careful to keep the lobster claws away from him. Plunking them into the bag before he scrambled up onto Scarath's back. "Thanks. Don't think I could have climbed up with them."
He sat down and stretched out. "So how we doing? Think we have enough for the dish you want to make?" If they needed more, he was going to take a breather first. It was a lot harder than he thought to dive repeatedly and look for prey.
Sorry Mine. He stilled his wiggling, but craned his long neck around to watch them on his back.

Lilias smiled at S'kor's lobster catching prowess. "I think maybe one or two more will be enough for lots of crab cakes." she answered. She had just managed to keep her balance on the wiggling dragon and to prevent the very full lobster/crab basket from keeling over the dragon's side. She took two strides and leaped gracefully off the bronze and sluiced into the clear water. There was one favoured hiding place she hadn't checked yet. She went down and down until the pressure on her ears became almost unbearable. Then she turned and stuck her head under the overhang of a wide crevice. Many feelers and claws waved at her. she pulled two crab and a lobster out and had to scramble for air while pulling the unimpressed crustaceans with her. She reached the surface, her face almost blue and crawled slowly onto the dragon. Whew that was pushing it she thought. "That ought to do it S'kor," she said, "Now off to the kitchens."

The rider took several deep breaths. He looked around at the blue skies and water. It was a pleasant place to be. When the candidate came gasping to the surface, he leaned over to give her a hand. "Good catch." Taking them, he added them to their basket. Making sure Lilias was settled then grinned. Alright Scarath. You heard her. To the kitchens. "We'll be there right quickly, and no effort required."
Scarath rumbled then turned to head into shore. He created large waves as he strode out. Determinedly the bronze headed for the kitchens. His delicious treats would soon await him there. He would lay outside for as long as needed.

Lilias' eyes widened in excitement as Scarath moved through the water. It was such a treat to be on a bronze dragon, made all the more inticing because bronzes never bonded to females. She held on tight to the squirming and fidgeting lobster basket and enjoyed her ride to the kitchens. When they arrived she slide of the big dragon and bowed to him. "Your crab cakes will be ready soon, I'll be sure to make yours a little bigger so you can actually taste them. Lilias giggled.

S'kor knew what the dragon was thinking. He'd lay right at the door and completely block the way. His eyes glance toward where the other dragons were perched, watching kids and adults scurry under them. S'kor wondered why Scarath couldn't be like that.
Because, they will be cold if I had to come from up there. Surely S'kor knew he liked his food as fresh, and hot from the ovens. Scarath settled down near the entrance, but politely enough room for people to walk by. Rather oblivious to those who might be nervous around a dragon, much less one of his size.
S'kor sighed. He'd get no inch from the bronze when it came to food. "Alright, just don't roll and block the path will you?" He slid down to join Lilias in the kitchens. Scarath would probably want him to know how to make these in the future. He grinned. A crazy bronze who loved food.

After recieveing permission to use two ovens, Lilias plucked out every lobster and crab from the basket, killed them and placed them on the table. She showed S'kor how to get the leg meat and the other juicy bits out from under the hard exoskeleton and carapace. She then started to chopping what she had gotten. She laid the chopped pieces on a baking sheet and placed it in one of the ovens. She did the same with the other. Now she set about making a bread like batter. Once the crab and lobster had been sufficiently cooked she removed it from the oven and cooled it for a short time. She added the crustaceans to the dough and made biscuit like patties with them. Using two new baking sheets she laid the biscuits on the trays. then placed them in the oven to cook while she cleaned up the area. She had made sure to make a few of the crab cakes a little bigger for Scarath to enjoy.
"S'kor, has Scarath always been so obsessed with food?" Lilias asked as she washed her hands. "He seems pretty intent outside." she laughed.

The rider stood and helped, but mostly watched. He was storing the info away for later. S'kor could feel the bronze watching through his eyes and approving. Helpfully he washed down the table and utensils.
"Yes." He sounded amused, "right out of the shell. First thing he said to me was if I had any spices to go on his meat. It has only gotten worst with time too. As a hatching he would come in and get under the chef's feet." The rider did a covered glance around the kitchens before continuing.
"Once he ate the pasty's chef's dainties fresh out of the oven. She was furious, let me tell you." There was a mischievous spark in his eyes now. "Lets not forget the time he got himself stuck in the tunnel to the kitchen because he'd grown too big." There was an obvious dragon snort from just outside.

Lilias laughed loudly, "I would have paid to see this," she wiped tears from her eyes. "He is a wonderful dragon. Oh, the crab cakes should be done now. Thank you for your help S'kor, it was nice to get to know you." she smiled at him and then dug oven pads out and pulled the hot steaming crab cakes out. "These have to cool for a bit and then we can take Scarath's crab cakes out to him to see if he likes them." she waved toward the door.

S'kor grinned. "The kitchen drudges very nervous at first having a dragon, even just a hatchlling, in the kitchen staring at them. And the chefs put up with it as good grace as possible. Though I will say it turned a few heads when he got stuck. Imagine coming down the tunnel to the kitchens and finding it blocked by dragonass." He still liked to tease Scarath about that one. "Thank you. I never expected it, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world." He smirked, "and I was a trader."
"Your welcome. It was our pleasure to help. Plus he would never have let me have an peace otherwise." He eyed the crab cakes and gave a sniff. They did smell pretty good.
A brassy bugle from outside let the rest of the Weyr know the food was done. Mine! Mine I can smell them too. Don't wait too long, I like them fresh and hot.
S'kor sighed. Pushy dragon. You smell it because I did silly beast. It couldn't have possibly gotten outside yet. But I did, S'kormine. Can I taste it now? The last was said meekly. "Scarath likes his hot and fresh from the ovens. If you don't mind, I'll take his out to him now so we can eat in peace." He smiled, and hoped if she Impressed a dragon it wasn't as food orientated as his was.

"I couldn't imagine walking down a corridor and having to go around a young bronze dragon." she smiled.
"Of course you can take them out to him now, here is a mit and don't let him eat yours!" she laughed. "And don't let him burn his tongue either. They are still hot."
Lilias cleaned up what was left of the mess and grabbed a crab cake herself. She bit into the succulent pastry and groaned. "Just like mother used to make... perhaps even better. The taste test is over, they are fit for a bronze and his rider." She grinned at him and snagged another crab cake. "I have to stop eating them or there will be none left for supper."

S'kor chuckled. "No, you couldn't go around. He took up the whole hall. Needless to say he never got into the kitchens again. Which I personally think to be a good thing. Think how many trays he'd have gone through if something took his fancy."
He winked, taking the mit and carefully picking up the pies. "Wouldn't dream of it. They should be cool enough by the time I get out there." S'kor gave an eligant bow while carefully holding the pies. "For which this rider and his dragon are most grateful." He laughed as he headed out and down the hall. To be sure Scarath didn't get his pie too he took a bit. Mmmmm that was good. Certainly something to look forward too on the dinner table some day.
These are so good Scarath. I don't know if there will be any left by the time I get out there.
Scarath wiggled his tail anxiously. He knew His was coming with the delicious pies. Surely His wouldn't be so cruel to make him wait then not give him a single bit. The dragon let out a large exhale as S'kor came into view. Mine you don't need to be so mean. I wouldn't have eaten yours. He quieted down and his eyes whirled a happy green, as he saw his holding up the pies for him.
With a happy rumble he opened his mouth for the pies to be set in. They are very good Lilias. Thanks. A mild voice sounding somewhat like S'kor tickled the candidate's conciousness.

Standing in the kitchen, Lilias almost dropped her crab cake. "Skarath? I'm glad you liked them, and I'm honored that you would thank me yourself!" Lilias thought back and grinned broadly. She startled someone who had trailed in after the crab cake smell.
The praise from the dragon made Lilias's whole day ans she served her crab cakes with pride when supper came because she had had the best judges for it.
