Letting out a triumphant whinny Carnivore continued to race across the land at a full gallop. He could keep this up for hours if he wanted to, but he reminded himself that there was a purpose to his running this time. It was not some meaningless get away or to capture prey. No, he was to go to the end of his territory, to show Love all that he ruled. To be perfectly honest Carnivore had never given it much thought just where his territory began or ended, but now would be as good of opportunity as ever to do so. And so he ran, glancing back to see Love behind him, the stallion seemed to be falling behind, that made Carnivore smile.
Eventually, after some time, Carnivore slowed down and come to a stop. Turning about he waited for Love to catch up to him. After all that running Carvinore's breath was still as steady as it had been when he was standing still. "Edge of land. Other edge same running away from start." It was a certainly good size of land, especially for such a young stallion. But he was just a single horse and didn't need all the lands...yet. "Carnivore show you land, now you show Carnivore fight." That was the deal...and this stallion better keep up his end of the bargain.

Love loped after the young colt. He was falling behind. That meant... he would have to try... Dear god... that was not good. He turned on to running. He came up short as the other did which left him two strides behind. "No..." He was breathing slightly heavy, nothing however that would call attention to that fact.
He shook his head and let his mane flare out. "I won't fight you... i will train you to fight...." He stretched. "But not right now... I had a long journey to get here... and then that run.... Training will begin again tomorrow." He yawned and turned his back to walk back to the spot he had saw. It looked perfect for sleeping.

He noticed the stallion was breathing a bit heavy but he had certainly done better than some of the others who had chased him in the past. Those slow weak creatures had given up far too easily, but still stallion had for the most part kept up. At least Carnivore knew that Love wouldn't tire as soon as training began. He needed someone with stamina, someone who could keep going for hours if needed. Letting out a snort of disappointment, they wouldn't start training now? Why then had he run and shown him all of his land? Why couldn't they have done that in the morning.
After a few moments of hesitation he followed after Love. Surely there was something the stallion could teach him, maybe not actually fighting but something...anything, just to get him through the night. "You teach me before we sleep. You teach me other things. Carnivore wants to learn." He had been taught very little as a foal and what he knew now was what he had taught himself. Whatever knowledge this stallion wised to pass on while they laid and rested Carnivore would certainly be happy to listen to. Perhaps, somehow it would help him in his plans to take over his fathers herd. That was why he agreed to the stallion to staying with him, so he could learn all that he could.

Love stories glanced over his shoulder to see the colt. He looked eager. Love sighed. "What would you like to know first?" He continued walking expecting the colt to come up beside him her let his head hang comfortably.
"How about what we will work on tomorrow..." He looked to find the colt. "We are going to work on Strength... There are Five things to cover and they need to all be in balance... If you are to beat your father... "
He stopped and looked around. He was sure that cozy little spot was around here...
"If you finish strength training for tomorrow we will work on stamina... However...." He stopped to look at the colt. "None of this will just magically happen over night.... " HE tossed his head back. "I was three before i had everything fall into place." He hadn't done boot camp like this colt was planning... but he remembered his third year....

What would he like to know first? Well there was endless possibilities of not only what he needed to learn but what he also wanted to learn. Most involved things that would aid him in his quest to one day overthrow his father. Some however were more to satisfy his curiosity with this world. Carnivore knew that his father and most of the herd he ruled didn't belong here, they had come here from Hell, all those horses that had once died not walked among the living. The only exception being his mother, she was normal, but somehow, she ended up with father and joined his herd.
He hated to admit it, but he did miss his mother, though not as much as Nameless did. His mother would play a key role in helping him reach his father. She knew his every move and likely his every weakness as well. Mother could lead his right up to father, as he likely would not recognize the colt any longer and then Carnivore would make his move.
With a shake of his head Carnivore brought his thoughts back to the present. Love was talking about strength and how it would be the first of five things he would need to master. Strength made sense, no fighter could do much if they lacked strength. "Carnivore want to be strong. Will learn about strength." As the other came to a stop so did he. Head cocked to the side a bit. Work on stamina? But he had stamina already, had the stallion already forgotten their run earlier, Carnivore could have kept going for a long time still before tiring. "Carnivore have stamina, can run all day without getting tired." At the warning the black yearling bobbed his head. "Understand it take time. Carnivore already waited long time, can wait longer so he can be ready."

"Stamina in that you won't stop fighting even if you are broken and sore... not in running." He twitched his ears. Love stories could remember his owner training day in and day out even when his pale flesh became blue and sore.
He held his head up. "Speed and stamina will be you main allies in your upcoming fight." He could already picture how to help the colt."Next you will need the ability to think on your feet... you have a head on your shoulder... we will make sure its a good one."
He stomped his foot and nodded.
"Then the last thing you need to learn... is to be humble. You can not fight to fight... you need to have a good reason behind it."

Carnivore bobbed his head in understanding. His stamina, while amazing for running, might not serve him as well in a fight, so he would need to build up his fighting stamina as well. That was something he would do then, but still maintain his running stamina just in case - besides there wasn't much he could do to stop Nameless from running away constantly. Speed and stamina should come easy enough he figured, and if he were to defeat his father then he would need to learn both well.
Of course the stallions next words made him pause. He needed to have a head on his shoulder? Carnivore glanced at Love with a weird look to his face. Then he looked towards his own shoulder, slightly confused. A head on shoulder. Returning his gaze to Love Carnivore shook his head a bit. "Carnivore have head on neck. Will head on shoulder take long to grow?"
The black yearling let out a snort. "Carnivore have good reason to fight." He didn't explain what that reason was, but he knew he wasn't doing it just to fight.

Love stared. Full out stared. And then he laughed. A robust and deep laugh. "It will take two or more lifetimes to grow a new head... guess we are stuck with what we got... so it will have to do."
Love made a face but didn't ask for the colt's reason. "Good... now... we will practice in the morning... You may sleep here in the safety of the trees next to me if you like... We will wake up at dawn to begin your training." Nodding he headed deeper into the cove of his trees.
He looked over his shoulder. "Anything else you need to know before i sleep?"

Carnivore stared back at the stallion, a somewhat blank look in his eye. He didn't exactly understand what was going on, or more importantly why the stallion was laughing. So what if it took more than a lifetime to grow a new head, he would be mostly willing to wait that long if he must. Oh well, Love was apparently content to stick with what he already had, though really now Carnivore was curious to see just what effort it would take to grow that head on his shoulder. Certainly it wouldn't happen overnight but it would happen if he tried right?
He followed Love silently into the cove of trees. He wasn't tired, not even close to it and he was still hungry as well. Ears flicked at the stallions question. Did he need to know anything else right now? His eyes moved to the pelt upon the stallions back. "Carnivore want to know why you wear dead animal? Does Love eat meat too?" He hadn't encountered any other horses yet who ate meat but perhaps this pelt adored stallion did. If that was the case they could hunt together and bring down prey much bigger than he was used to.

Love Stories eyes moved from the black yearling to the pelt that rested on his back. He shifted slightly at the second question. "No... I eat what others usually eat... grass, hay... the likes..." He sometimes forgot he carried the pelt upon his back. "Its a long story and actually not all that interesting."
He shrugged guessing the other wouldn't leave the topic... "My old rider killed the animal... It had come out of the mountains.... It attacked my rider and because i tried to help he gave me the pelt... But he didn't live once the wounds soured..." He sighed remembering that day. "What about you Carnivore... whats your back story... why are you here?"

An involuntary shudder ran down Carnivore's spin. Grass. It was such a horrible tasting thing, even Nameless didn't eat it exclusively he supplemented his diet with meat because grass could not fully remove hunger. Perhaps he could teach this stallion the joys of eating meat in return for being taught how to fight. That way they would both benefit from this.
He had been able to open his mouth to prod Love into telling the story anyways. Even if it wasn't interesting he wanted to know, that's why he had asked about it. He eyed the pelt once more. "Carnivore kill things, but not wear their pelts." Maybe he should start doing that. What was his back story? "Carnivore come from same place as Nameless come from, Hell Herd. Father lead herd. Father chase Nameless away so Carnivore run to. Carnivore run lots, very far from home. One day Carnivore go home again, defeat father and save mother." Yup, that was it, that was his back story and his future all in one breath.

Love watched the young horse. He was so motivated by his family... and the emotions were stirred. He thought about his own siblings... His parents weren't in the picture... but someday...he would find his siblings too. He flicked his ears. "Hell Herd?" He shifted a bit.So this young stallion wished to be the leader of this herd. "I will make you strong enough to lead the hell herd."
Nodding he tossed his head. "So your mother is in danger?" Love was a sucker for the women... and if a mare need to be rescued... that was what he would do... rescue the mare... and reap the rewards happily.

The young stallion bobbed his head at the question. "Hell Herd." He repeated and then tried to explain as best he could. "Father and others dead, they come from Hell, now they live in herd at mountain. Mother brought to herd by father, she cannot leave, father makes her stay." Carnivore wasn't as attached to Regret as Nameless was, but the young stallion had missed her at times during his youth and felt he owed her something for trying to protect him from father when he had been too weak to do anything. He wished to free her from fathers grasp and that was why he wanted to defeat his father. Leading the Hell Herd would be a nice bonus from it.
He glanced off to the trees for a moment, thought about it and then looked back at Love. "Yes, mother in danger. Nameless want her saved too. Nameless need mother." Perhaps he would be less of a burden on Carnivore with Regret around to coddle him when needed. That would be something to look forward to.

Love nodded. He had heard about a few...undead... horses. He tried not to let the disgust that washed over him show. "Then we will have to work three times as hard. Always remember that a mare in danger is a good reason to fight. But simply Fighting may not always work... " He didn't know if undead horses could die....but he would surely find out...
He stomped his foot. "Are you ready for bed yet." He could feel the long miles he had traveled that day. "we will start at dawn." He twitched his ears and then glanced around. And then the next few days he would see what this colt was made of.

There was an enthusiastic nod from Carnivore at that. He would be willing to work a thousand times as hard if it meant defeating his father and righting the wrongs that had been done to him in the past - and to Nameless too. Though honestly he didn't give two craps about other mares at this point, he only needed to save Regret from his father, then perhaps after that he would worry about saving other mares in danger. "Carnivore work hard, learn what to do, even if it not fighting." Whatever it took, he told himself, he would do it.
"Yes Carnivore ready for sleep." In actuality he wasn't. He was far too excited about training to sleep right now, but something told him that the older stallion wished to rest and that he wouldn't be able to delay that from happening much longer. He trotted to a spot opposite from where Love was in the grove and after circling about, like a wolf or coyote often did before laying down, Carnivore lowered himself onto the ground. In just a few hours his training would begin and it would be the first true steps down the path to defeating his father. He looked at Love one final time before closing his eyes, even if he wasn't sleepy at the moment he could at least pretend to sleep for the others benefit.
