Personal Log, Stardate 2447.0332332 or something like that...
I'm on a ship full of idiots... or at least the uneducated. The stench of rum fills the air as I write this, and more than likely all of the crew are too drunk to do their duties. I have taken it up myself to fill whatever voids the ship needs while the crew are sleeping off their alcohol. Granted, I like a good drink every now and then, but not when it means I'm the only one who is sober and capable of manning the ship. Eventually I will rise in rank and then I will be in command. Eventually...

Wednesday, February 16th, in the year of our Lord 17XX
Earlier this week, I got into a public ruckus with the captain, and I sized her up using my silver tongue. It wasnt long until I was called to see her so she could "discuss" my behavior and punishment. In the confines and safety of her cabin, I immediately turned the tables upon her, using the momentum of our arguement earlier, I had her disarmed and off-guard due to some quick words and logical thoughts. Eventually, she was do impressed with my important and intelligence that she offered me the position of Tactitian aboard the ship. While I am tempted to accept, my standing among the crew would not be good if I were to rise that quickly in the ranks. This, along with the fact we havent been in battle yet, is a good reason why I'll continue playing the captain and the crew both for my own purposes. I have been looking over the ship manifest, and I noticed that the quartermaster in charge has been either sloppy or cheating. I feel it is time for a replacement.

Thursday, March 9th, in the year of our Lord 17XX
We have just sailed into port of Divvytown after engaging a Spanish flute. Knowing that this would be my first battle with this crew, I thought it interesting to study how they fight. Unfortunately, the barbarians prefer rushing into melee with absolutely no tact whatsoever. Half of the crew are wounded, and who knows how many are dead. All this from a blasted flute. Had the captain confered with me prior, I'm sure we could take down something the size of a frigate if need be. Ah well... I have been looking over my books and have been thinking... I sorely wished I had the writings of Sun Tzu or Zhuge Liang with me. I think I'll stop in at port and see what tomes they might have.

Friday, August 18th, in the year of our Lord 17XX
It has been several months since I have taken the time to write a journal entry. Since that time, we have anchored off an uncharted island. The rest of the crew went off on a treasure hunt of some sorts. I, wisely, decided to remain behind because I know some uncouth mongrel will try and steal some of our precious food rations... again. I am amused, however... the crew who have returned from their journey have either injured themselves or obtained their own pet. This amuses me so long as I am not required to clean up the mess they make. Already we have been anchored for too long, and having our crew split in half (the other half went with the captured ship to Divvytown), as well as not having a single battle in a long time, is not good for law and order among this ship. Lately, my thoughts have been wandering. Wandering upon the captain. Katherine Kruel is certainly a lustful wench, indeed, but she has remarkable intelligence, and hides it well. I do not know why, but I keep having dreams of us in a chapel, getting married. Like that will ever bloody happen... Still, a quartermaster can dream...

Tuesday, August 29th, in the year of our Lord 17XX
A great battle between the Dementia and three British ships occured. But this was no ordinary battle, it was against the William II, my old flagship from the navy. And this time, the commander was my brother, Johannas Graves, arrogant and prideful as always. The tactics he used in this battle were the same as they were several years ago, which is why I soundly trounced him.
Following the battle, just before the ship sank, I dived into the water and recovered my darling's pendant and my private strongbox, though I barely managed to make it out alive myself. I was brought up to Katherine's cabin to recover, and when I awoke, I noticed the Captain was filtching through my pockets and drank the love potion I was saving. Not only did she drink it, she mixed it with rum, which intensified the effect. I had to use calming words and suggestions to make her calm down enough to go to sleep.
In the morning, Katherine rebuked me when she found out it was a love potion, despite me not having anything to do with her stupidity. I will make sure to avoid her or find some way off the ship and onto one where the captain is more respectful.

Sunday, May 6th
It has been an eventful and overwhelming past couple of weeks.
Firstly, I am engaged to not only my old fiancee, Alexandra, but also to my new love, a French woman by the name of Cosette. Having to choose between one or the other is taxing, but I feel that I need to make a choice, and soon.
Second, we have recently engaged in our first defeat in battle. Katherine refused to listen to my advice, and thus we lost the battle long before we entered it. We could have relied on luck, but the enemy was far too strong for us. They consisted of freaks of nature, humans with an animal bent. The captain, himself, looked as if he had an octopus for his beard. I did my best to defend the ship by shooting my musket at the more airborne targets, but in the end it was no use. We were lucky to get away with our lives.
Lastly, while on vacation on Isla Olividada to recover from my wounds sustained in battle, a now-pregnant Katherine gave the command of the ship over to me. I'm guessing this is to ensure that she does not put herself in harm's way during her vulnerable state. I believe I will use this new-found power to enforce a regimen of discipline, to ensure that the mistakes of Katherine are not repeated.
