At that answer, Ashley gave the menu another quick look, and settled before the waitress came back to her. There was also a burger and fries in her future. And eventually dessert. It would seem a lot of food for such a petite girl, but god damn she was hungry, and she saw no need to come across as cute and completely ladylike to someone she'd just duct taped a senshi on the wall with.
Even if Ever's 'new' wallet ran out of money, she had to qualm with paying for her own things. She still had most of her allowance in her own wallet.
"I have no idea, actually." It hadn't even occurred to her, and it made her hum thoughtfully. A quick look to make sure the waitress was gone, and then she continued. "I just had an hand showed in my chest and then I wasn't me anymore." She couldn't help but feel a chill down her spine as she spoke of it. Her corruption had been mostly gentle... as gentle as having an hand shoved in your chest and feeling like you were getting thorn apart could be, anyway.

"I had a hand shoved in my chest, a growling blue-haired kid of five feet maybe threatening me with death, and then I wasn't me anymore..." But the idea of a blue-haired kid shoving his hand into his chest didn't freak Ever out as much as it should have, probably. He focused on his milkshake to cool a bubbly edge of something pleased...
A very, very long sip, thinking about it, his eyes distracted. Somewhere else entirely. Then he clicked back into himself, dark eyes locking onto her again. "I don't know. I can't remember the last time I wore shorts voluntarily, though. Maybe when I was ten? Eleven?"

Ashley made her own educated guess, but kept her thoughts to herself as she continued to enjoy her well-deserved beer. Hopefully the food wouldn't take too long, because she was damn hungry.
"I play soccer. I wear shorts all the time." Ashley shrugged. "I hate the color orange, which is a problem." Dear Meadowview - couldn't you pick a less suck color for your uniforms ?

Orange; Ever's eyes went unfocused as he tried to remember which of the schools wore orange, and what that might mean about her. Didn't take him long to put two and two together. The majority of students at the library showed up in orange shorts, the other uniforms cropping up less frequently. Public school, maybe? He made a noise.
"Could be worse, though, I guess? I recall a time when I was put in a bow tie..." It was hard to tell if he was being truthful or not. He grinned, leaning back as the food appeared.

"Well, I have to wear a tie..." She figured a bowtie wasn't very different. Potentially less annoying, maybe.
She loathed the orange more than anything, through.
Their food finally arrived, and Ashley gave a polite nod to the waitress before picking at her fries. "Still one year before I can graduate, though, which kinda sucks."

"I'd sympathize, but I missed out on all that..." Ever skipped the fries for now; he cracked his burger open to check out its contents and squirt a liberal amount of ketchup onto the patty, then leaned forward to start in on it. Once upon a time, he'd been trained to good manners. A few years on his own had driven them off some, again, and he only barely swallowed before he continued.
"Who do you work with, exactly, anyway?" Ketchup on his hand; he set down the burger to suck it clean from the webbing between thumb and pointer, shoulders hiking in a shrug.

Oh, ketchup. Good idea. Ever had only just let go of the bottle before she mimicked the movement, then squirted a good amount on her fries.
If Ashley gave a damn about the white haired man's lack of manners, it didn't show.
"Schee." She said, swirling a fry in the lake of ketchup before eating it. "I havn't met the rest of his team yet, but we're doing pretty cool just him and me. I think they're just busy." She shrugged - it didn't seem to bother her much. "I usually just stick with whoever I run into."

"...oh, I know Schee." Some. Not very well. Ketchup still clinging to the corner of his mouth, Ever reached out to grab a napkin to get the rest of it off his hand, still leaning absently on the table and watching her poke at her plate of food. He was digging for something else to say, something useful besides 'he'd pretty damned hot'. Sneaking suspicion that could get him in trouble.
"Um. He was trying to help me not get my a** kicked. Obviously, not terribly effective." With that he shrugged, smiled, going for his burger again. "Maybe, with time..."

The most trouble Ever would have gotten with would be Ashley laughing, probably. It was no secret that she was close to her captain, but they weren't that close.
Demy being gay certainly helped, as well as Ashley still mostly hiding in her little closet of duality.
"I dunno, it's kinda unfair." The burger was attacked next. Damn, she'll need to remember this place... The food was pretty good. "We get shitty weapons and they expect us not to get our asses kicked by people that can chug every flavor of fire ice air earth heart go planet as us ?"

This place was greasy, cheap; ordering anything other than a burger almost certainly would have been a mistake, and the fries would leave translucent stains on the napkins...but yes, it was good. The two were not mutually exclusive. Ever polished off the last of his burger as she spoke, a machine, and sat back scrubbing at his fingers and looking satisfied...
"At least I get to tie them up at the end of most fights, seems like." He wiggled his eyebrows and shrugged just a little bit. "Worst beating I ever got, I was still in civvies..."

Sometimes greasy and cheap was just what someone needed, and as far as Ashley was concerned, this had been one of those nights. That and, well, asking for a salad in this kind of diner was probably the equivalent of begging for disaster.
"The worse that's happened to me, I hit a wall, blacked out, and from what the others told me, almost drowned." But yet, she hadn't been awake to feel fear, so she wasn't sure if it counted.

"Mmm, at least you weren't alone." Not a question, nor truly sympathizing, just a fact of life. Ever downed a couple more french fries before abandoning them in favor of his shake, both hands wrapped around it. His expression fading to serious, he considered the scars around the edges of his fingers, eyebrows knitted.
"...you ever want to go out together again, let me know, I guess. Not on the same team or whatever, but I don't really care." He flicked a look back up at her. "I probably go out alone too much."

"True." Ashley wasn't looking for pity, and would probably have been a bit insulted if Ever had given her that. She'd messed up, and paid the price for it. It could have been much more dramatic than that, given the circumstances.
However, the least she talked about it, the better at this point. Thankfully Ever didn't pry - she found herself liking him more and more actually.
"Hm ? Oh, yeah, sure thing. I probably go out on my own too much too." She shrugged. But she had school, and Scheelite didn't - so she had to do her own 'shifts' earlier than he did, most nights.
She finished the last of her beer, and looked at the time. She would need to get going soon... drat.

"So, here, we'll make it easier..." He shifted, leaning back, one hand still wrapped around his drink but the other dipped into the front pocked of his jacket, head tipped down and expression gone focused. Not there; he let go and hunted through the others, each pocket in turn, his expression sliding toward panic until he came up with the cheapo flip phone Zac had given him for emergencies.
A puff of breath as he found it belied his relief, his eyes sliding up onto her and expression gone embarrassed. that had been really stupid and she'd witnessed it. Damn. Oh well. He held out the phone in offering.
"I still don't know how the hell to work this thing, but if you put your number in there or whatever, I can call you. Or you can call me. Whatever."

That was odd. She said nothing, however, and simply imputed her information in - name and cell number. "There you go."
