We play Pomp and Circumstance at graduation every year. We're playing that and Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah this year.

I love Bacchanale! I played it on oboe for the orchestra last year.

We're playing a good amount of stuff...A Huntingdon Celebration, Heroica, Exultate, and various other things that I can't remember. And, of course, the joy that is Pomp and Circumstance.

our band plays at graduation. just not the seniors graduating haha. they play pomp and circumstance for a ridiculous amount of time, and then after the ending song (recessional? processional? something like that) they play all 4 marches the seniors have played smile i never had to go cuz there'd be nothing for the guard to do haha but this year it was a good thing my little brother is in band, because it rained on our graduation so it had to be in the gym instead of the field (normally its free admission) so they gave all of us 4 tickets. 3 for the gym, 1 for the theatre where they'd have a live video feed thing. so if my little brother hadn't been in band, there'd have been 4 of them who needed to go (i have a younger little brother in middle school) so none of my other family would have been able to go...but since it was in the gym, there was way less time they had to play P. and C. so i think they should be happy for the first rainy graduation in 26 years...

I know this reply is a month late but I wanted to share my experience. biggrin So my freshmen year everyone who was a freshmen, sophmore, and junior must play at the graduation. But this year do to having an increase in band members, not everyone was able to fit on the stage. The juniors must play since this is their last year before they graduate, even though they hated playing pomp and circumstance for three years in a row. Some sophmore's didn't have to play and only the freshmen that had siblings graduating came in order to save tickets for their family. There were also the random freshmen that were told to come. Since we couldn't really fit on the stage they made us face each other like in a hallway form which was akward! Anyways we play pomp and circumstance multiple times as the seniors walk into the ampitheatre. Then as everyone is leaving we play the march we are going to do at competition next year.

I hate the Pomp and Circumstance dirge.
It's a shame that our director TRIES to get us motivated and play it faster, but we just fall asleep during practices. *guilty*
Alas, I won't be in the ensemble this year. Class of 2012 baby. Il be sad though...for those poor people listening.

I totally agree. I personally don't know if I will be crying or laughing at graduation, or a mix of both. crying: I'm gonna miss my littler band buddies. Laughing: I'm not the one playing Pomp and cricumstance BWAHAHAHA!
