Zo grinned and tossed her head back. She gave a screech, similar to a hawk's call. Her red eyes scanned the blue sky. Would Kalril hear and come? Sometimes the bird could be strong willed. She didn't mind it too much; it meant he could look after himself if she needed time alone.
Just as she was about to give up on her familiar, a long familiar call sounded behind her. She prepared by tensing her wings and standing stock still.
Kalril came soaring over the trees from behind his bonded. He thought it made him look impressive. His talons stretched out and gripped firmly onto one of Zo's wings. As he settled, he folded his wings, clacked his beak, and observed the other mare.
Zo bobbed her feathers in amusement at his antics. He just wanted to show off. "Sonja meet Kalril, Kalril meet Sonja." She chuckled as the bird turned first one eye then the other on Sonja.
"Not really. They can't run as fast as I can. Plus if they don't suspect I'm there they usually keep hunting for food. Leaves 'em vulnerable."

"Wow..." Sonja said in awe watching the magnificent hawk. "He's beautiful. Does he always do that make you wait till you're almost sure he's not coming and swooping in thing?" she grinned. "At least he has character."

Zo snorted with amusement. Sonja pegged it right on the head. "He likes to be impressive and do grand entrances. Shhhhhh, don't let him hear you say that. He's vain enough." She teased the hawk. He had a right to it; his feathers were something to look at. "Heheh nah, only when there's someone to impress." She winked at the other mare.
Kalril hurred and clacked his beak playfully at the two mares. He leaned over to fondly preen Zo's head feathers. "A pleasure to meet you Sonja. I am beautiful, thank you. At least you can appreciate wings like these." He spread his wings to proudly display the markings on them.

"Very impressive indeed," Sonja said watching the bird with interest. "And it's nice to meet you too. You two must make quite a team when it comes to hunting."
