"WE'VE GOT A RUNNER!" The call comes from above you somewhere, but even before it's finished yelling lots of voices join in with it, whooping and hollering and cheering you on... until something drops on you from above, landing on your shoulders (sitting on your shoulders?) with it's paws or hands or something over your eyes so you can't see. You suddenly hear "Giddiap Horsie Mouse" and your rider kicks you in the shoulders as if you were, indeed, a horsie mouse. Run? Or try to dislodge the rider?
User ImageThe cruel jeers of the unknown voices slid off of Sunfur as he rose his nose in the air and tried to ignore them. His little bottom lip quivered however, wishing dearly he had thought to bring the assassin bug with him, to protect him from just such a situation! He always seemed to be an easy target for bullies! Tucking his gear tighter under his arm as he strode out from his former hunting ground, the Mouse closed his eyes tight against the whooping and jeering, only to feel the heavy weight of something dropping onto his shoulders.

Sunfur let out and undignified and very scared squeal, dropping all of his equipment, including his lucky stone. He tried to grab the creature that sat upon his shoulders, but nimble kicks from the culprit kept his hands at bay. Leaning over nearly doubled with the weight of the creature that say upon his shoulders, Sunfur whimpered in fear and disgust of the undignified way he was being treated. His eyes were forced to remain shut with what he only hoped were hands over them. He spun himself around, and once again futilely tried to throw whatever, or whoever, it was off of his shoulders!

"Get down off my shhhhh-oulders this inst-st-stant!" He stammered out, infuriated, spinning round and round in the middle of the path he had found, leaving his gear unattended and in danger of being swiped. When the attempts to dislodge the intruder on his peace seemed to fall short of their intention, Sunfur decided to get angry. It wasn't often he did so, and finding a low hanging branch, ran at it full tilt and ducked his own head just enough to get under, and hoped that whatever was on his back would be knocked off, and tumble to the ground where he could teach it a stern lesson!

As you're searching and calling for the owner of the voice, you catch sight of your letter (that you dropped) disappearing into the bushes. "Oh, what could this be?" One voice asks. "Lemme see it! It's a love letter I bet!" answers a third... "Toss it over here! I wanna open it and read it!" Calls a third. The voices seem to be in a triangle around you... the first corner is where you saw the letter leave, the second point to your right, and the third behind you....
User ImageMarty's eyes widened in shock as he realised he had dropped his letter! He had been given his payment in advance for delivering that letter safe and sound, and now he had dropped it, and it was about to get torn open! He bulled his way out of the undergrowth and to the right, where there second voice had called out opening it. Searching frantically, the little chickadee clacked his beak in anger and concern for his precious cargo, determining right there and then to collect as many trade-able things as he could and seek out someone to make him a bag! Finding no owner to the second voice, he charged off toward the origins of the first, still unable to find anything, not even a hint of his letter.

"Now now, lads!" The little chickadee called out in his high-pitched voice, making placating movements with his wings as he searched the trees and the undergrowth with his eyes as he moved back to the path. "Its not my letter! It is my neighbours, and they are adamant it arrives in perfect condition! Don't damage it, I implore you!" He looked around, his brows furrowed in concern, his feathers ruffled, strewn through with twigs and leaves.

"I'll do anything, chaps, just let me have my letter back and be on my way!"

Schuyler crouched over an old tree stump, completely covered in green, moist moss. It was the moss that caught his interest from the second he glanced over the rotting stub of a tree, and in his intense examination of the unique flora he barely heard the strange remark from an unseen creature. "That may be so, but I guarantee that the bane berries in my pouch will be anything but delicious if you consume them." With not even a glance over his shoulder, Schuy started carefully tearing off a piece of the wet moss to collect and, later on, to dry.

"Hey, you...you look like you eat good enough to be good enough to eat..."

Silvia whirled around at the sound of the voice, eyes narrowing and paw going immediately to the dagger on her hip. "Who's there?" she hissed, eyes scanning the area, her other senses seeking out any sign of who had addressed her in such a manner.

Why was someone always out to eat her lately? Seriously! It all started with that crazy badger, Canker Blossom, and things seemed to be going downhill from there. When she couldn't pinpoint the source, she continued, "If you're that hungry, I'd suggest finding better prey than me. Not much of a meal for you here..."

Tarke squawked in alarm, flapping his wings in a panic at the sound of the strange voice. "Who's that? Who's there? Lemme alone!" he snapped, eyes darting around wildly. He didn't see anything about, and his little heart pounded in his chest. He should have known better than to wander this way today. Should have stayed home. With his shinies.

Realization dawning, his eyes widened and he looked down at his chest. Attempting to awkwardly shield his chains and coins with his wings, he shouted out, "Don't you dare think of taking my shinies!"

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...it had seemed like it would be such a nice, quiet, peaceful day.

Koriss' eyes looked about for the voice's source, his own voice sounding weary. "Oh, please, not again..." he moaned, reaching up to rub his hand over his eyes. "Look, you really don't wanna' eat me," he continued, lifting his tail and waving the tip about so that whoever was pondering him for dinner could see it. "See that? Means I'm not good for eating. So, how about leaving me be, 'k?"

Yeah, it was a weak argument, but it was all he had at the moment. He didn't even know where his potential foe was terrorizing him from...

Leandar

The was a brief silence while Leandar searched, but it seemed that the voice couldn't wait that long to find out what was going on. "So... kitty. what're ya looking for? Not me? maybe a footprint?" A footprint appeared in the mud in front of Leandar suddenly. "Is that what you're looking for Kitty? It's not mine, but it's a nice one, isn't it?" The voice laughed. "It belongs to my aunt marge... You can follow them if you want." Suddenly more footprints started to appear as if someone was walking to make them. "Of course... you might actually find my Auntie Marge... so...."

"Oooh" The voices in the bushes went in a series of hushed whispers... "He says don't open it" - "Open it" - "No lemme open it" - "Wait.. he said he implores us..." - "What does implore mean?" - "He said he'd do anything..." - " Anything?" The whispering continued for another few seconds before all the talking stopped. "Here here biride boy... Make a noise like a frog or..." there's a quick ripping noise.

Silvia

"Oh I don't know about that." The voice chuckled. "You're pretty chubby and I like my meat to have some taste to it." The voice chuckled again. "fatty fat fat fat." The chanting continued for a moment until the creature got bored. "You bore me. You're stupid." A pine nut flew out of a tree and pinged off your mask.

Tarke

"What shiny?" a laugh could be heard from a nearby rock (or maybe it was that bush over there) "I don't see anything even remotely shiny. All I see is a stupid little bird with some dirty metal around it's neck." The bushes wiggled a little. "I could take that metal off you and do you a favor you know. Just come over here so I can get it."

Koriss

"Why's 'e showing you his tail?" Asked one voice. "He's showing it because it's full of somthing." - "What does blue mean?" - "Blue what?" - " Blue tail dummy." - " His tail is poison?" - " Doesn't matter." - "That's right, we can have Giflle eat it." - "I'm not eating that." - " You can, It's not like we're gonna eat him uncooked... and poison cooks out." - " I think that's alcohol." The voices fell into a hushed harsh whispering, and then a clump of mud flew out of a bush to your right and pinged off your shoulder. "Don't go nowhere lizard boy, we're definitely gonna eat you, we just have to decide how to do it. Got any preferences?"

Schuyler

"He's ignoring you Fillip." Came voice from the tree above you. "Not for long" Came another voice. As you continue to ignore the voices and pick moss, a slow stream of warm yellow liquid comes down out of the tree, barely touching your hand and splashing you as it struck your moss and the tree in front of you. "Ugh, Fillip, your aim is horrible."

Shai

"Oh, aren't you a nice one." The voice was mocking the mouse, calling out to him from high above. As if to emphasize this, a pine nut came falling out of the tree above you and barely missed hitting you in the face. "Oh, that's a shame." The voice said. "Having a knot on your face could only have improved your looks." You just have time to see a branch wiggle and a green appendage whisk around behind the trunk again. Do you climb the tree? Or something else?

"If you think I'm ugly, you should see my sister," Shai spat back. The creature was in the trees, and green, or at least something of him was, and he sighed. If only he didn't have the curiosity of a cat.

He wanted to know what type of creature the annoyance was, and possibly bop it on it's head. Someone needed to teach it some manners.

He leaned the stick against the tree, and then started to climb up it.

User ImageRoland was not in the best of moods. He had found a cork a few days ago, found out that it was for trading, traded it to a young mouse for two other corks, and walked away feeling accomplished. He didn't notice until he had gotten to the market section of Mossflower that he had dropped the high valued cork. He was left with a #2 cork when he had started with a #8 cork. Well, actually he had started with no cork at all and losing a cork was a lot better than being kidnapped, so he really shouldn't be upset, but he couldn't help it. He was really starting to feel as if he had the worst luck in all of Stonecrest. He at least made some use of the cork, using it to replace the old, cracked cork of the canteen that Tabitha had found and left with him. He hoped that he could end up trading it for a better canteen or something, but he wasn't sure a #2 cork would be enough for that.

As he walked down one of the tunnels that had been shown to him after being rescued, he heard a voice behind him say, "Hey, you... you look like you eat good enough to be good enough to eat." He turned to look behind him, staring with a confused scowl for a moment before looking forward and beginning to walk again. The tunnels weren't exactly full of places to hide, so when he had seen no one, he passed it off as being delusional... or whatever the word Tabitha had said was. He was a little tired, after all. He had been able to find the general area where one tunnel's entrance was, but it had still taken him a while to figure out the exact location and, as usual, it was hot above ground. As he walked away from the, he assumed, imagined voice, he couldn't help but wonder. If I'm imagining something wanting to eat me, does it mean I'm hungry or just uncomfortable?

((Hope it's okay for him to still have his cork atm.))

It had taken a few moments, but Leslie had been able to stop shaking in order to seem invisible. He felt a bit of pride at his accomplishment when the creature said that he had had been invisible for a moment. Though he had felt a need to correct the... thing, he didn't because talking would mean moving and moving would mean being seen. He noticed the bushes to his right shake for a second and made sure to keep an eye on them as he listened to the rest of what the creature had to say. Of course, as he listened, he became more frightened and soon started shaking again, letting out another whimper as he turned to the bush and said, "W-What do you w-w-want?" hoping to be able to reason with whatever it was that threatened him. He was shaking like a leaf, his heart still pounding in his chest. He was terrified and knew that if this kept up, he'd be missing the end of his tail soon.

Imogen thought for a moment maybe Ches had started moving when she felt the tug on her bag, but when she heard the voice and felt the flap fly open, she quickly turned to look for the source. She frowned a little when she again saw nothing. Her ears twitched slightly as she heard a second voice and then the first again. She heard them say that she had a 'rock' in her 'purse', causing a smile to form on her lips. They thought that Ches was nothing more than a rock. Of course, that smile faded when she heard them say something about taking it anyway. Apparently Ches heard them as well because a quiet whine of a, "Nooo!" came from her bag as the small bug began to shake. She hugged her bag to herself in an attempt to comfort the frightened bug inside, giving a quiet, "Shh," before saying, "What could you possibly want with a rock?" to the creatures that insisted on bothering her for no apparent reason. She still hadn't gotten an answer to how they were going unseen, but that wasn't as important at the moment. What was important was protecting herself and her new friend. Hopefully she could do so with words, but she was willing to fight if she had to. She knew how, having learned from her parents. She just hadn't practiced it much.

Newt and Abeya

The voice wasn't all that far away, in fact, after about 30 steps the voice is loud enough that it must be nearby. You hear one last chuckle before the creature goes silent again. There's a set of bushes, one big tree, and a hole in the ground... all three seem to be large enough for a creature to hide in... Which do you look in first?

Abeya glanced around, back and forth between the various possibilities. What I wouldn’t give for a Lilac right now, she thought to herself. They were far more reliable than Daisies or Dandelions. But alas, she and Newt were on their own, no one to rely on for a clue or warning. Newt tugged her arm, “Eeny-Meeny, ‘Beya?” She sighed and nodded, “Seems like our only option…you wanna do it?” Newt nodded and pointed at each hiding place as he said the rhyme, landing finally on the big tree directly in front of them. “In there” he said, tightly taking a hold of her hand again. Slowly, with careful and deliberate steps, the two mice made there way nearer the big tree.

Gormen

As you start to get worked up the voice starts to push at you, grating on your nerve with it's catcalls and mimics... it seems that anything you say the little gruff voice says back, and suddenly there's about ten voices, all seeming to come from 10 steps away. Each time you get closer to a voice it fades and seems to start up again farther away.... right as you feel like you're about to give up, something grabs at your tail quills... if you spin to see, there will be nothing but the slight shaking of a nearby bush...

Well he wasn’t going to take this lying down! Or standing up, or floating, or any other position he may get himself into. No, this voice had chosen the wrong hedgehog to mock. “Right, that’s it, show yourself…only cowards act like this…get out here!” Gormen balled up his paws and stood at the ready. Tree save the creature, whoever it was…he had gotten on the wrong side of this hedgehog.

User ImageBean hadn't intended to linger outside for long. She'd just wanted to go out, enjoy the sunshine for a little bit and pick a few nice flowers for her dining table. She'd gotten distracted however, and had wandered farther than she'd intended from home. She didn't realize she'd drifted until she heard the voice, "Hey, you... you look like you eat good enough to be good enough to eat"

Bean froze when she heard this, eyes going wide and glancing around with a frown. Had that been a reference to her weight? Sure she'd been eating a little more than normal, but she didn't think it was that noticeable. She self-consciously placed her hands on her hips as if to hide them and wheeled about. Now just where had that voice come from? Her brow creased and she took a few steps in one direction, and then backtracked. Was she imagining things? "Excuse me?" she finally said, more than a little confused.

User ImageMarty wrung his wing feathers together, listening to the conference between the unseen voices. They were muttering between themselves, and for some reason, Marty just knew it wasn't going to be good! His little heart fluttered so unbearably against his chest that he thought he was going to faint. And then the call!

"Here here birdie boy... Make a noise like a frog or..."

The request made Marty's feathers stand on end, and his eyes narrow in anger, but at the ripping sound, his knees buckled, and he nearly fell to the ground, his eyes starting to shine with tears.

"NO PLEASE! OK I WILL!" He righted himself and dusted his feathers to try and fix the little lump that was rising in his throat and hold back the tears as he attempted his first croak. It came out more of a squeak around his potential crying, and he coughed quickly, to clear the blockage and try again.

"Riiibbit!" He cried out loud, his little crest rising with the sound and feathers still puffed out somewhat. "Rrrrrribbit!" He shouted really loudly at them. Flushing beneath his dark feathers, he held out his wing to the unseen voices. "Please, I did as you asked! Please can I have my letter back? I didn't mean to shout and holler earlier! I just wanted to scare you away!"

Jeeves was sprawled out in a pile of leaves sunbathing in what little light had breached the deep canopy of the trees over head. He was pretty sure he had surveyed the area completely before nestling into his own little pile of heatsoaked foilage near an over turned stump when he heard "Hey, you... you look like you eat good enough to be good enough to eat"
As per usual his quirky brain responded aloud before he could think of a proper response. "That sounds about right..." (Oops did I say that outloud?...Ummm) "But I'm pretty sure I'm high in empty calories and..uh..other bad heart attack stuff..." With that he dug himself deeper into the pile of leaves until only his eyes were showing.

Oh please don't eat me..don't eat me...don't eat me.. he thought.
