Walking through the restaurant with her little family, it didn’t take long for Bella to see the back of Skylar’s head. Oh god.‘’, Bella stopped in her tracks. How could she not do so? Even if it was only for a moment, as Jack ushered her on, Bella kept walking over to that table like a reluctant snail. Seeing the color metaphorically drain from Alice’s face when she saw them, Bella suddenly felt extremely guilty. ‘ I should not be here! Guhhhhh, Jack why did I come?’, She could have said no, but there had been a sense of urgency when Alice asked them to get together (at least she had that impression) and now Alice looked like she didn’t want them there. Like Skylar would leave and it would be their fault. Which unfortunately, could happen…
Jack didn’t seem to be having the same fears that she was having. Something very similar, but Jack just walked over there and said hello. Or some variation of it before his anxiety gave way and her husband was gone with the baby.
“ Just goin‘ to get a booster seat for the kiddo…”, Bella’s eyes widened in a panicking glare. ‘ Traitor! Traitor!’, Her cheeks puffing up in slight anger, Bella realized that she was still by the table and tore her pleading eyes away from Jack’s body walking away. She had to sit down now, and damn it she had to be the one to say hello first. Removing her coat, Bella set it on the back of the chair beside Adam and set her bag-like purse down over the edge of the chair.
Smiling with all the happiness she could muster in her expression, Bella smiled at both Skylar and Alice before turning her head over to Adam in the smile to be polite. All in one fluid motion before her eyes snuck a glance behind Alice’s head to try and find her husband. ‘ Smooth Jack…real smooth. Just leave me here all alone. ’ inwardly shaking her head. Bella was just upset that he thought of it first. Finally Jack returned with their fussing toddler and steated himself beside her.
“ Great to see you.”, As he nodded towards Alice, Bella looked at Alice and smiled; her hand sneaking under the table to squeeze Jacks thigh as hard as she could. His jeans would prevent most of the damage from being felt, but it certainly helped her feel better. The most nerve wracking thing since her wedding day and he sneaks away to avoid the awkwardness. Relieved of her anger, Bella looked up as the waitress gestured towards the table.
“ Would you like anything to drink?”, Bella had to blink twice to register the question, and she smiled in response. Jack was driving home, she could get away with a little drink. Quickly grabbing the drink menu, Adam seemed to know what he wanted and ordered first:
“ I‘d like a Tatonka Stout please.”, Dark ale. Bella could feel her mouth water, and she wasn’t even a drinker. Smiling a bit to boldly than one should, Bella smiled at the long-haired man--’ What the hell did you do to your hair?’--before raising her hand to get the waitresses’ attention.
“ I‘ll have the same.”, Bella smiled at Adam, and Terrance smiled at his mommy.
“ Me too!”, Dear God. her sons cute determination made Bella’s eyes widen and she felt the guilt of being a bad example plunge deep within her stomach. ‘ Oh cr*p…’, shaking her head profusely, Bella’s face became stern and she shook her head and laughed off the potentially embarrassing moment. If not played right, her son would have a hissy fit in the middle of this fine establishment.
“ He means a root beer.”, Adam was holding one hand over his face and chuckling ever since her son said: ‘me too’ and Bella was trying hard not to laugh herself. Adam’s laugh was contagious, and she had always laughed with it in the past. Putting her hands together, Bella knew that if she didn’t do it now, it wasn’t going to happen, so Bella smiled at Skylar and put both of her hands in her lap.
“ Hello, Skylar.”, the worst was over. At least, Bella certainly thought so, as the words each weighed one hundred pounds.
“ How are you do--”, Bella was about to finish her statement when some man took the seat beside Skylar and distracted her focus. Her eyes widening from the sight of Scott being here, Bella swallowed the fluid in her mouth and found that further words were impossible. Outside of their wedding, to which she couldn’t remember whether or not he had attended, she hadn’t seen Scott since she was fifteen years old and came over to Jack’s place to play video games. She had only met him the once, that she could remember, and it hadn’t been the most enjoyable experience. ‘ Whats he doing here? Why is he sitting beside Skylar?’ too many questions for her to answer popped into her head, and Bella could only stare at him for the longest minute.
“ Scotty?”, maybe he was just a look-a-like. That could happen; right? Bella continued to stare like a goldfish. Looking over to Adam, he didn’t seem to know what to make of this either, and with a tilt, Bella turned her head to sneak a peek at Jack’s face.
" Um...everyone this is Scott. Scott, that's Alice, Adam, Bella, Jack, and their son.", Bella smiled to hide the pain in her face. Skylar didn't even bother to remember their son's name. She supposed the time would do that to anyone; but, it still hurt knowing that Skylar was probably the most likely person to dislike their child forever. Worry draining her pale face, Bella smiled her awkward smile that hadn't been seen in years, but was once common-place.
" We've met...", Bella started to fidget with her fingers and gnaw on the inside of her lip. This night suddenly took a very strange turn, and Bella wasn't sure how tonight was going to go.

theme | polyvore✄ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It seemed as soon as he sat down and shook hands with Adam, Bella's fingers clung to his thigh as if it were to keep her from floating away. He looked over at her with furrowed brows. He recognized her nervous smile immediately and moved his arm to wrap around her shoulders. He had to hold her, he knew that he was nervous as all hell, but he didn't really think if Bella would be nervous. He just pulled her slightly closer to him in his small embrace. It was then when the waitress came over to ask for drinks. Jack laughed quietly when Terrance exclaimed 'me too' after Bella and Adam ordered their ales.
Jack simply looked up at the waitress with a smile, "A Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and a water, please." Sure, he was driving but one drink was not going to get him drunk. He might as well enjoy the burning sensation of alcohol to distract from the awkwardness. He looked at Terrance, "You want a juice, pal?" Terrance rolled his eyes and flipped his coloring book open to a page of 'The Joker'. Jack looked up at the waitress, "An apple juice for the little one."
It was then that he heard a familiar voice: "Sorry I'm a bit late or somethin'..."
Jack grimaced slightly, knowing who that voice was. He and Scott never really got a long. They were just too different. He looked over, nodded his acknowledgement, and felt his fingers tighten slightly on his wife's shoulder. He quickly loosened his grip and apologetically kissed her cheek. He saw from the corner of his eye the kiss he planted on Sky's cheek. His eye twitched subtly.
Why would Sky go for a guy like that? He would never know. As soon as Skylar introduced the group to his cousin, Jack was about to speak when Bella spoke for him. He was thankful for that, until Scotty decided to manage to squeak his cat-vomit-inducing voice in:
"Jackie-boy," Jack could just hear the hair on the man's eyebrow raise in annoyance. He was then forced to look at his cousin. "Good to see you." Jack nodded back, his faux smile plastered on his face.
"Ah, is that Bella? The chick you knocked up? AH, I should say you're wife, now."
Jack recognized the awful, mocking laugh that always flew out of the demon's mouth. Jack could only nod in response. He looked towards Bella with apologetic eyes.

Adam smiled back towards Skylar’s smile. She had always had a pretty smile, and it almost made him forget how bad awkward this night was going to be. Just as his worries began to subside; however, Jack, Bella, and their…Adam found himself staring. ‘ Aww f*** why did they bring him?’, Regretting not calling to ask them to keep their munchkin at home, Adam felt the warmth drain from his face. Their son was an adorable little boy wearing the cutest pair of beige corduroys, but Alice was going to see him and…he turned to look at Alice’s face and felt his heart begin to drown. ‘ Just when things were looking up since the baby…she has to see one all over again.’, feeling horrible. Nay, worse than horrible, Adam turned his head to look out the window. He just couldn’t handle seeing Alice hurt without gaining some composure first. ‘ Why did they do that? Now she‘ll see the baby and start thinking about everything bad in our relationship.’ worried more than ever that Alice would go home, break down crying, and say those little words he dreaded to hear, Adam looked back when a waitress asked them if they wanted something to drink. ‘ Why not? If I‘m going to hear that when I get home, I might as well gird myself up for it.’ With a smile, Adam squeezed Alice’s hand and looked up at the waitress.
“ I‘d like a Tatonka Stout.”, he watched the woman raise an eyebrow to form a face that read: ‘Usually people order a glass of wine here…’ He could tell she was staring at his hair. Probably wondering who went into a bar and dragged him in here. Sure, his outfit was acceptable, but he knew he should probably cut his hair. He just didn’t want to. ‘ I should have tied it back or something…’, but the resemblance to the Johnny Depp due just didn’t suit his face very well. Torn from his thoughts once more by Bella, Adam raised an eyebrow himself.
“ I‘ll have the same.”, With her being a mom now, it seemed unheard of that Bella would order alcohol. She must not have changed as much as her feminine attire implied. ‘ Once a tomboy, always a tomboy.’, Adam couldn’t help but smirk.
“ Me too!”, Almost snorting in his throat, Adam had to put his hand over his mouth to keep from chuckling out loud. What the hell is wrong with you? That isn’t funny! The hell it wasn’t. ‘ yep, that‘s Bella‘s kid alright.’ Debating being sarcastic and saying: ‘Boy, lets start him out early.’ As a joke, Adam looked towards Alice with his laughing eyes and immediately the light evaporated from them. ‘ I‘m laughing at his cuteness…’ him showing any attention or affection to their son was only going to make Alice feel worse. He inwardly felt it, and with an apologetic look, Adam lifted his other hand and gently set it atop of Alice’s own. At an angle where no one could really see his face, he mouthed the words: ‘Love you’ before looking back towards the group at the sound of a chair moving.
“ Sorry I‘m a bit late or somethin‘, got caught up and stuff…”, the look that man gave Skylar after sitting down reminded him of all the little looks he used to give women before he put his promiscuous days behind him. ‘ Did she bait him to show up?’, Adam withheld a grin.
“ Um…everyone this is Scott. Scott, that‘s Alice, Adam,”, Jack waved as if he needed the additional help, and smiled a half-smile. Half standing from his chair to try and shake the man’s hand in greeting. With him being a co-host, it was something he should try and do.
“ Hi Scott, nice to meet you.”, He sat right back down by Alice and playfully gave his Ally the same look. ‘ I‘m here…whats my reward?’ Hopefully that she wouldn’t end things. Chuckling to show he was being playful, the atmosphere at the table suddenly turned sour…
“ We‘ve met…”, uh oh.
“ Jackie-boy,” Adam turned to look at Jack, who’s cold-stone face radiated something between anger and irritation. Jack was fuming, that much Adam could tell simply by an internal radar catching the aura rays. Adam felt that Scott was going to say something sarcastic, or fake-nice, to his old friend; however, the words from Scott’s mouth made his eyes widen.
“ Ah, is that Bella? The chick you knocked up? AH, I should say you‘re wife now.” Adam resisted the urge to face palm and hide the expression in his eyes. ‘ This is a disaster!’ Rubbing his eyes, Adam was about to look at Alice for her to change the subject when his eyes drifted over Bella. If Jack was just a bit perturbed, Bella was furious. Like a wild animal, something Adam once appreciated quite dearly, the fire in her eyes was blazing. Images of a spit-fight between Bella and Scott trailed through his mind and Adam felt a sense of urgency rise up in him. Say something! Before she attacks! Adam cleared his throat to get their attention. Bella almost snapped at him, simply from unintended transfer of hatred. He had to do this now, before Bella became a wildfire that couldn’t be controlled. This dinner had to work. It just had to.
“ So Scott, how did you and Skylar meet?”, Adam flickered his eyes just once to see Bella, and noticed that the anger began to subside. Calming down himself, Adam let out a deep breath and turned his head to glance at his Alice. Hoping more than anything that she wasn’t overly worried or panicking. ‘ See honey, I can handle this. The dinner wont be a complete disaster.’, Adam raised Alice’s hand and tried to press a kiss against her knuckle.

Scott♕En'Claire. . . b e c a u s e | i | w a n t | y o u | . . . { f a l l } into { y o u } is all I seem to do. when I hit the { b o t t l e } 'cause I'm afraid to be { a l o n e } ❝ it`s in the water, baby . . . it`s between you and me. ❞ Scott caught his girl's lips forming the thanks he so deserved. He felt her hand on his knee, and he moved his own to grab hers. She then quickly turned away to introduce him. He nodded with a side smile. Then the one he remembered was named Adam stood up from his chair and leaned forward to shake his hand. Scott stood as well and grabbed his hand, "Nice t'meet ya, dude." Once that was over, they both sat down. Soon after he heard Jack's wife's voice pipe up. He adjusted in his seat to get a good look at her. He grinned, remembering the story that Skylar had told him all about.
It was time for Jack to pay for his crimes. He squeezed Skylar's hand lovingly and winked at her right before he let the words fly out of his mouth: "Jackie-Boy!" He couldn't see Jack's face all that well with Bella in the way of his view. "Ah! Is that Bella?" He couldn't contain it anymore, he just wanted to irritate his cousin to no end. "The chick that you knocked up? AH, I should say your wife, now." He chuckled deeply, seeing a hint of Jack's reaction.
He looked over at the bundle of joy at the end of the table, the spawn of the "evil" (or just stupid) Jack Desmond. The kid was adorable, Scott had to admit. He just hoped that Skylar was alright.
When the air was just tense enough for someone to get up and start a killing spree, that was when Adam decided it was best to change the subject. Scott didn't really care, but he smiled and wrapped his arm around Sky's waist with a quick peck on her cheek.
"We met a month ago, actually." He gently squeezed her side playfully. He knew she was slightly ticklish there and he loved to toy with her. "I work at the music store, 'Big Daddy's Junk Shop'. She walked in, grabbed a 'Relient K' album, and as soon as I rung her up I just... asked her on a date." He chuckled again, this time with the memory in his mind. "I mean, who wouldn't pass up the chance to be with this striking beauty?"
He raised an eyebrow with a quick and subtle glance at Jack. He tried not to linger too long before looking back to Skylar. He snuggled his nose into her cheek and kissed down her neck.
"You're too awesome for these people, we should go see my friend's band play after this..." He whispered in her ear, making sure that she was the only one to hear.

Deep in the valley of your soul Tired of worries you can't control With so many mountains left to climb Unanswered questions left to find _____________________________________________________ Tapping his thumb against the steering wheel of his car, his eyes darting from the clock on the dashboard to the road, Cailen was becoming more anxious as he got closer to the restaurant. He knew he was late to this dinner, and he hoped they wouldn’t think he just wasn’t going to show up. Despite being nervous about seeing all his old friends again, he was actually pretty excited. It would be nice to see Bella and Jack and his nephew Terrance again. Since they moved way out in the middle of nowhere, Cailen hadn’t gotten many chances to visit his sister and her family. The last time he saw them was around six months ago for Terrance’s fourth birthday. Cailen was most worried about seeing Alice and Adam again. He hadn’t seen or heard from them since Bella and Jack’s wedding.
That day wasn’t a great one for Cailen. Even though he was happy for his sister, he wasn’t too thrilled when Adam proposed to Alice. He’d been mostly over Alice, but there was still some part of him that wished they could have worked things out. She was the only girl he ever loved like that. From the time they separated, he had a few girlfriends, but none of them were like Alice. Cailen knew they hadn’t officially tied the knot, or at least they didn’t invite him to the event, and he wondered what the hold up was. Cailen was most anxious to see Sklyar again. He hadn’t seen her since he dropped her off at her house that day five years ago. If he knew that moment was going to be the last time he saw her, he would have ever promised to take her home.
She was the one who was constantly on his mind. Not a word from her, it was as if she fell off the face of the Earth. He wondered what she had been doing all this time and why she kept in touch. For all I know, she could be happily married with kids. Cailen didn’t want to think of that. “We’re here,” he said to Winnie as he pulled into the restaurant parking lot. The ride was mostly quiet, except for filling her in on some things he forgot to tell her. For as long as Cailen has known her, it wasn’t until after he got the invitation to this dinner that he decided to tell her about the rest of the group and that day years ago. Cailen decided to invite her to this dinner for a few reasons. Mostly, he really didn’t want to go alone, but also he wanted to introduce her to the rest of the group. Depending on how this night went, she could even become friends with the rest of the group. If Jack could do it, why can’t I?
The only difference was that Winnie was not his girlfriend. They met each other at work, where she was shadowing someone who was on the same case that he was assigned to help on, and just hit it off from then. They occasionally got to work together after that and soon became good friends. After that incident with Alexis, Harrison and Tony those years ago, Cailen discovered an interest in the criminology field. It was after he dropped Skylar off at her house and he went to the police station to turn in the money he stole, that he realized he wanted to become a detective. He took some night classes in the criminology field and is now a detective in-training. Cailen then turned off his car and walked into the restaurant, making sure that Winnie was with him.
The restaurant was a little fancier than he expected, but was still in the suit he wore to work. He didn’t need the hostess to show him to the table because as soon as he walked in, he reconized the group all sitting at the table. Bringing Winnie along, Cailen made his way over to the table taking in how different everyone looked. “Hey guys, sorry we’re late. I was stuck late at work working on a case.” He then saw little Terrance sitting in a booster seat and a smile formed on Cailen’s face. “Hey little man, look how big you got,” he said ruffling his hand through the boy’s hair. Then Cailen pulled out a chair for Winnie and sat down in the seat next to her. “Everyone, this is Winnie. We work at the same station and are really good friends. Well, you already know Bella, Jack, and you’ve met Terrance I believe, but this is Adam, Alice, Skylar, and uh, I’m sorry I don’t believe we’ve met,” Cailen said to the man sitting next to Skylar.
Cailen looked at the man trying to remember if they’ve met. Is this Skylar’s new boyfriend? Cailen didn’t really like that idea. She could do so much better. Trying to be polite, he smiled at the man, but there was something about him that Cailen didn’t like. It wasn’t until it was silent that he felt like he was interrupting something. From the look on everyone’s face, there was something that happened moments before he arrived. Feeling sort of awkward, Cailen just smiled and looked down at the menu laying in front of him. _____________________________________________________ OOC: I'm sorry it took so long. It was a late day at work today, then I had to give up the computer so my sister could do her homework.

( S K Y L A R ) - Sky - ( L E N N O X )xxxxxxxxx ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Because of you I never s t r a y e d to far from the sidewalk xx because of you I learned to play on the SAFE side so I don't get hurt x Because of you i find it hard to t r u s t not only me but e v e r y o n e around me xx Because of you I am a f r a i d . . . Because of youXX
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Skylar was feeling more at ease with Scott there. He seemed to be able to do that to her quite a bit. That would happen with relationships when they were new. They were just a lot of fun. Skylar had missed that. Sure she had tried to date a few people these past five years but none of them every really went anywhere past the first date. Scott was different and that was what she liked.
When the reunion was brought up, Skylar had no choice but to tell Scott the story of what went on between Jack and her. It was the first time she had ever told anyone about it and after five years of keeping it locked up, it felt good. And it also felt good that he supported her through it. He was on her side, not on Jack’s or Bella’s but hers. That was something she never found with the others. They had all been happy once Jack and Bella hooked up (and they certainly didn’t waste any time in doing so). The only person in the group who came close to understanding how she felt was Cailen. But Skylar knew in the end he wasn’t all that furious with his sister. How could he be? Bella got everything she wanted.
So when Scott started to taunt Jack and Bella, while she felt a little awkward and slightly embarrassed, there was a part of her that liked what he was saying. In a way, she felt it as him sticking up for her. Of course, she could never admit this to anyone else, but she might say it to him when they weren’t around the others. However, catching the look from Bella wasn’t all too pleasant and in fact, made her feel a bit guilty. So when Adam almost came to the rescue with the question of how they met, Skylar was relieved.
She smiled at Scott as he told the story. It was pretty simple. She remembered the day it happened. Really, she just wanted some more music to listen to and her favorite band had recently come out with an album. It was supposed to be a quick trip to the store and then she was going to be back home. Scott asking her out caught her completely off-guard and that was probably the reason she agreed to it. Although, with his last comment calling her a ’striking beauty’ She looked to the ground afraid that she might be blushing slightly. Skylar was never one to take compliments very well.
While the kisses he was giving on her neck felt good, Skylar was a little uneasy with him doing it in the setting that they were in, especially if they were the only ones doing it. But then hearing his voice whisper in her ear made her forget being uncomfortable. She thought about his suggestion and was very much considering it. This night wasn’t really going the best and if it was going to continue to be uncomfortable with Jack and Bella then she would gladly rather goes watch a band play. But then two more people joined the party.
Cailen. He was the last person that Skylar had seen and the one she missed the most. Seeing him now, it was hard to remember why she hadn’t kept in touch with him. He was so supportive through everything that she was going through and he was always there if she needed to talk. It was also interesting to find out that the little crush she used to have on him…hadn’t exactly gone away. The instant she saw him she felt butterflies in her stomach. That feeling was crushed like a rock however when she saw the person that tagged along with him. ’Is that his girlfriend?’ It would make sense for Cailen to have a girlfriend. Maybe they were even engaged. Why not? It wasn’t like he was dating her or anything. Still seeing him with the girl saddened Skylar slightly.
Skylar tried to smile as they came closer. He did say that he was only friends with the girl named Winnie but she couldn’t help having suspicions that maybe he was lying. Now why would she think that? When he paused at Scott after introducing her to everyone else, Skylar knew she would have to introduce the two of them. For some reason, the thought of introducing Cailen to her new boyfriend never came up when she thought of this night. ”Oh, Sorry. Um…Cailen, this is Scott.” She didn’t add that he was her boyfriend or anything, although he could probably figure it out the way Scott had his arm around her. ...all the words I couldn't say...

WINNIE RENFIELD
mwahHer name was Winifred, but nobody called her that. They called her Winnie and made jokes about how they’d still call her that if she was named Savannah, because she had a winsome smile, because she had a fondness for honey, because she just looked so much like a Winnie. She supposed it was better than being called something unfortunate like Eugenia. Or Gertrude. How would they greet her if she were named Gertrude? “Yo, Gurt,”? Winnie winced at the thought and flicked a cotton-candy pink strand of hair out of her eye.
mwahBack in grade school, the Barbies of her town—who now either resembled leather chairs from excessive tanning or were still wearing matching tracksuits—used to laugh at her nick name and neigh like horses when she’d pass. “Horsey, horsey! C’mon, give us a whinny!” And they’d laugh behind jarringly bright painted nails until she’d pause, assess them with seemingly boundless indifference and respond with how horrible she thought it must be to be conformed into a mediocre generalization of brainless beings and how she’d much rather be dead than alter herself to fit a mass-produced mold. Her stance on such a topic remained, though she couldn’t help but feel a twinge of anxiety for her quirkiness at the thought of finally meeting Cailen’s friends.
mwahShe'd come to embrace her difference and how her brain worked in a fairly unusual manner, leading her to peculiar perceptions of things that usually opposed the popular opinion. She'd come to like it and came to learn how to expertly disregard any sneers or humorously disbelieving looks that came her way. She'd also learned how to skirt around the bottomless pool of self-consciousness on most fronts. At work, for example, she felt no need to dress like her coworkers in pantsuits and neutral colors. It used to worry her mentor, made him think people wouldn't take her seriously. The second she opened her mouth, however, his distress was put to rest. Meeting normal people wasn't much different. Meeting Cailen's grade school friends was.
mwahShe’d talked to—and that counted as meeting, in her book—his sister and her husband a while ago, but could hardly feel the difference in her nerves then and now. These friends struck her as a family of their own, albeit apparently dysfunctional. She knew the basics, the names and the very, very complex nature of certain relationships, but she’d never seen the faces attached, but for Cailen’s sister. The idea of seeing the faces now, of connecting stories to people, was almost eerie. The way he spoke about them—usually in a rush, seeing as their busy schedule left little time for chatting—it was almost as if they weren’t real. They were like fairies, almost, in that she’d heard enough about them to feel like she’d known them forever, but had never seen more than a glimpse of a photograph. Well, that and fairies weren’t real. These people—she listed their names silently, like she was cramming for a test—Alice, Adam, Skylar, Jack and Bella were all living, human creatures. Their existences were undisputed facts. She could handle facts.
mwah“We’re here.” Winnie blinked, jumping just a little when she saw that they were, indeed, there. She twitched her nose and spun her cocktail ring around her finger with her thumb. She offered him a quick, almost childishly eager, smile and hopped out of the car. The second they were in the building, Winnie’s electric eyes were off to the races, zooming and darting and dancing around the tables, looking for a group big enough or a face that looked like it could belong to a Alice or an Adam or a Skylar or Jack. Cailen had no difficulty finding the group and she matched his pace, undoing her trench coat belt as she went. She hadn’t had time to change into proper, fancy-place attire, but chose not to care whether or not she’d be dressed or underdressed. She’d be judged, surely, for it is only human nature to judge something foreign and unusual. But she didn’t particularly care about the establishment’s other patrons. It was the long table before her—filled with some of the most interesting looking people she’d ever witnessed—that held her attention. When Cailen came to pause, Winnie did as well, her poorly concealed smile spreading into a delighted grin as she speedily examined each and everyone of the table’s occupants. She recognized Bella, Jack, and Terrance before Cailen even mentioned them, and offered the little, clustered family a wave and a zealous, dimpled smile. “Everyone, this is Winnie. We work at the same station and are really good friends. Well, you already know Bella, Jack, and you’ve met Terrance I believe, but this is Adam, Alice, Skylar, and uh, I’m sorry I don’t believe we’ve met,”
mwah“I’ve heard so much about all of you.” She said, almost laughing and still standing while she undid her coat. “It’s fantastic to finally put faces to all the names.” It wasn’t until she’d already voiced her excitement and had slid into her seat next to Cailen that the heaviness of the air began to press against her. Tension—practically visible in its strength—radiated out of almost every member of the reunited friends. It seemed to vary per person, as if each were even a little consumed in personal conflicts, and unite in a dense cloud over the length of the long table. Winnie bit the inside of her cheek and leaned forward to address one of the calmer members of the reunion—Bella and Jack’s little boy. “Hey, Terrance.” She said, wiggling her fingers in a wave. And then she let her hand drop and went about trying to fix the tense group dynamic. She would have preferred to hug the friends upon introduction, or at least stick out her hand to shake, but had darted to her seat instead. She hadn’t expected any one to stand and leaning over tabletops wasn’t really the best way to present oneself. And, thus, Winnie Renfield found herself trapped in her seat, trying not to let her excitement fade, but feeling her mega-watt smile flicker. She took a sip of her water and rewired her smiling circuit. "I feel like I know all of you already." Well, that wasn't exactly true. What she'd managed to extract from Cailen's stories was little more than a handful of summaries. He hadn't, however, mentioned the eighth person at the table, the only face without a name for Winnie to connect to. But it seemed like Cailen was having the same problem and Winnie figured she'd just listen for the man's answer to Cailen's question instead of asking her own. So, while she waited for the stranger to provide his explanation, the blue-eyed outsider allowed herself a hearty examination of all those present.
mwahOn a whole, they were far more lovely than she'd imagined. She'd pictured a group of kids in bigger bodies, plain and cute in a wholesome kind of way. The sight that greeted her couldn't have been farther from her expectations, which was relatively surprising for the slim framed girl. The faces around the table were some of the most remarkable she'd encountered in a long time, each with hardly any trace of childhood. There were no especially round cheeks to be seen--minus the fitting pair on Terrance--nor did she see any hint of disproportionate features. It made biological sense that their features would have settled by the time they'd reached their mid to late twenties, but Winnie was still a little thrown off by just how adult they looked. She raised her glass to her lips and sipped her water, briefly considering lunging into more introductory statements, but deciding to wait a little while--it wasn't her reunion, after all. She swallowed the perfectly square ice cube she'd been rolling on her tongue and leaned marginally forward, angling her body towards the humming conversations.

❞ Skylar felt tense underneath his arm. He noticed when he kissed her neck earlier, she was reluctant. He figured it was just because they were in front of old friends, maybe she just didn't want that much public display of affection around them. In all honestly, Scott hadn't quite warmed up to them. He was on Sky's side, willing to defend her and carry her away on his shoulder. Then, as if to bring him back into the room, the waitress set a glass of water in front of him. He was fine with just drinking water. After all, he only really drank heavily around people he enjoyed spending time with. He sipped at the water after telling their story of how they met when two newcomers came by. So, Scott wasn't the only one that was late. Damn. He hoped that there wouldn't be anymore new people to see.
The way the douche bag looked at Skylar made Scott tighten his grip around her waist. And then he introduced his little girlfriend to the group. Scott couldn't help but notice that Winnie was absolutely just striking. She just reminded him of an actress on the red carpet, her face was small and slightly rounded, like a pixie. He took his mind off of her and turned his attention back to Sky, right in time for Cailen to question the stranger that apparently no one knew about until this moment.
He was about to speak, lips parted and ready, when Skylar spoke first. Cailen, so that's his name... He nodded, "Nice t'meet ya, bro." He waved with two fingers by his forehead, almost in a salute. Scott could tell that Cailen wasn't a fan of him, his eyes said it all. That didn't matter though, if Skylar wanted him and Scott wanted her then there was no stopping it.
(ooc: erk, short, I know.. if you want me to beef it up, I will. But I think this is sufficient enough to respond to Cale and Sky.. c: )

WINNIE RENFIELD
mwah"Nice t'meet ya, bro." Bro. Winnie hitched a slender brow at the term. She knew that ‘bro’ was an abbreviation for ‘brother’, but doubted this Scott person was of any relation to Cailen. It took her a second to realize the term was slang, rather than a declaration of familial ties, and Winnie felt a nervous smile flare quickly and fleetingly on her lips before she raised her glass of water for another drink. She’d been sitting at the table for just a few minutes, but had managed to subtract almost an inch of water from her glass through a series of short sips. Having her mouth full was certainly a good excuse for keeping quiet. She knew that if she started to speak, she’d sprint through a myriad of complex subjects and most likely leave Cailen’s friends puzzled and possibly concerned. She liked listening, anyway. Winnie set down her glass and regarded the menu in her hands, her right index finger tapping a little regular beat against the paper’s edge.
mwahThe first thing that greeted her candy-colored eyes was the Pork Tartare. Immediately, a conversation pressed against her closed lips. She pursed them just enough to seem pensive, though her true goal was to keep her words bottled up. 'Did you know that eating raw meats of any kind increases your risk of contracting a parasitic organism? Like…here, the pork tartare could be made from a pig hosting the pork tapeworm Taenia solium, which can distribute larvae within your intestinal tract. You’d be its intermediate host, because they live in three cycles. The pig would be the first host, you’d be the second, and then, once it’s passed through your system, whatever poor creature next ingests its eggs will be the final host. Did you know that in the twenties, purposefully ingesting tapeworm larvae in the form of pills and pastes was a popular form of dieting? Really. The tapeworm essentially leeches the nutrients from all you eat before you do. You lose a lot of weight, but the risks far out number the benefits, seeing as taenia solium larvae have been known to attach themselves to both organs and tissues within your body. If they’re particularly vicious, they can actually affect your brain and central nervous system. I’d recommend the steamed vegetables.' [ Winnie cleared her throat quietly, as if to dispel the voice and the words it would carry down the table should she open her mouth building in her throat. She picked a relatively safe item on the menu and laid her menu to rest besides her plate. Her gaze wandered away from her table and to the middle-aged couple seated a few tables away. They were laughing over oyster shots and Winnie looked away quickly, feeling particularly uncomfortable at the tidbit of information that sprung to her mind in response to the image. 'Oysters are believed to be aphrodisiacs in most cultures. Actually, recent research shows the consumption of spring-time oysters can, in fact, lead to increased stamina in….the bedroom. But what does that matter when they taste like polluted silt?' Winnie grabbed her glass and took a nervous sip. She chewed on another ice cube and redirected her attention to the table filled with fascinating individuals. She kept quiet for the moment, but willed them with her eyes to keep talking. Go on. Talk. I want to know everything.
mwahShe supposed the almost absurd amount of interest she’d invested in Cailen’s grade school friends could have been deemed strange or worrisome, but her sizzling curiosity could hardly be sated by his few stories. The way this group worked, usually with unconscious fluidity, around each other was absolutely intriguing. A variety of personalities finding common ground—childhood and developing maturity, she guessed—and binding together against most odds, like a puzzle that fit but shouldn’t, was like the most complex of anthropological studies. She heard the conversation lull and decided to seize the opportunity to pipe in. “This all looks delicious. D’y’all know what you’re getting?” Her eyes widened briefly with some version of horror when she heard the sneaky return of her childhood twang. She glanced at her empty plate and cleared her throat quietly. “You. I mean, you.” She amended hastily, forcing her accent back behind years of studying neutral dictation, with a sheepish smile for the table, and allowing the undertones of a flippant, embarrassed laugh to thread their way into her words.

Her eyes ever on Scott, Bella was grateful to Adam for having shifted the energy flow of the table. Relaxing, if only sightly, Bella decided that the best thing to do was to watch for her brother to arrive. With her hand fiddling slightly under or over the table to reclasp Jack’s hand (as she had released it during her spit of rage to keep from hurting him). Averting her chin from the little group to glance towards Alice, Bella offered a gentle smile, simply to express her appreciation upon seeing her again. Abruptly turning her head towards Jack, Bella smiled another knowing smile before turning her attention back towards the door. Doing a good job of avoiding Scott by focusing on her brother.
Who just then walked through the door, with Winifred. Having not seen her brother in person for at least a few months, Bella was ecstatic to see her brother, and smiling towards her husband, Bella got up out of her chair in the hopes of stealing an embrace.
“ Hey guys, sorry we‘re late. I was stuck late at work working on a case.”, Bella tried to bear hug him before he could protest. Her tomboyish personality wanting to give her brother a light bop in the chin that she would really care about him being a few minutes late.
“ Pffft, I don‘t care. Point is you made it.”, Sitting back down in her usual seat, Bella’s heart warmed in a tenderness that only a mother would feel at her brother rustling Terrance’s hair. They were one step closer to a ‘happy family’, even if it wasn’t even large enough to be called a ‘baby step’. Turning her attention towards Winnie, as she had been too shy to risk trying to hug her, Bella offered a polite smile and waved when her brother introduced them. Even with his presence to perk her self-esteem, the prior awkwardness of the room continued to taint the situation, and Bella offered no assistance via speech to amend the tension. As Jack remained silent himself, Bella decided to listen to her husbands unspoken advice and just keep smiling.
Seeing her baby having some difficulty getting one of the crayons out of the box, Bella absentmindedly pointed towards Terrance with her chin raised upwards towards Jack. ‘ Honey, can you help him?’, her face seemed to say, as their offspring started to hit the box against the edge of the high chair trying to get the tiny yellow out from amongst it’s companions. Thinking her husband would appreciate the distraction, Bella left her explaination take care of itself and leaned forward to rest her forearms atop of the table. Awkward, yet progressing, Bella was hopeful that the dinner tonight wouldn’t get any worse. But that was before Winnie decided to comment the entire life cycle of tapeworms.
‘ Is this what you investigate at work Cailen?’, Bella didn’t really want to know, and if not for the fact that she had once thought inappropriate jokes were funny, the subject would have completely spoiled her appetite. As it was, Bella was fine looking at blood and gore whilst eating; however, the image of tapeworms crawling about her intestines might taint her appreciation of pork forevermore.
“ Fascinating subject…Tapeworms.”, Giggling at her own nice little joke, Bella looked about the table to see if anyone else would find it funny before she began to open up her menu and actually take a gander at it. Having been trying to distract herself from conversing with Scott, she had completely neglected to think about a potential dinner. ‘ Well Terrance might like some of a hamburger…But I doubt they make those here…Salmon? He might try it…Pasta?’, that seemed to be the best choice, and Bella pursed her lips as her chocolate browns ran down the list of entrées.
“ This all looks delicious.”, Bella looked up at the sound of talking to smile Winnie’s way as a sign that she was paying attention before her eyes darted back down onto her menu.
“ D‘y‘all know what you‘re getting?”, Bella almost dropped her menu. A bubbling scoff-like noise sounding inside of her throat. ‘ Did she really just say ‘D’y’all?’ Bella was trying so hard not to turn that scoff-like noise into a giggle, that she bit down on her lip. Redding from the effort of restraining, Bella kept her face downcast over her menu and began to inwardly think of random things to keep from giggling. Remembering Terrance’s first word, Bella smiled. Jack’s first day as an architect, that was a good day too, but the suit he wore had a little stain in the back that Bella hadn’t noticed until after he walked towards his car that Monday. Trying hard not to laugh as each thought memory was followed by a hilarious turn of events, Bella giggled in her throat and felt her tongue loosen itself from it’s cage. She just couldn’t take it anymore.
“ Do‘ yaw’l know where our waitress is?”, Smiling broadly in both apologetic fashion and good humor, Bella hoped that Winnie would not be offended by the little joke on her part. It wasn’t every day one heard country slang around here, and it was so out of the ordinary that Bella had to giggle at it. It was just part of her nature, which reminded her of something else. Turning towards Adam, Bella giggled and began:
“ So, Sir Lancelot, who‘se idea was it for you to grow out your hair?”, Bella playfully nodded with a shrewd expression as if she already knew. “ Never thought I‘d see you with scruffles…”, The snort-like sound of laughter dying in her throat was all the tease she was able to muster before Alice piped up a little comment.
“ Well the calamari rings here are to die for…unless you‘ve got some fun facts for us about squid, winnie.”, Bella felt the atmosphere become sharp and toxic again, and Bella was unsure if she could shatter the glass after that little comment. Deciding to save all her long-hair jokes for another day, Bella decided to slowly shift the subject in a more casual light and work through the past five to ten minutes of pain.
“ Actually…Calamari sounds divine for an appetizer. I‘m sure if there‘s something wrong with it, Winifred wont partake of it…”, A laughter shining in her eyes, Bella continued to glance down the menu. Her right leg inching beneath her chair in the hopes of finding Jack’s foot and playing footsies together like old times. Well, before it was altered to a cutesy, romantic, affair and became inappropriate to do…before she got pregnant.
“ Hmm…The chicken cordon bleu with alfredo pasta looks good.”, Looking towards her husband, Bella raised her eyebrows in a quizzical expression.
“ Would you like to share hon--”, Bella blinked and cringed her old cringe before relaxing her scrunched up face. “ Jack?”, Bella would have asked their son what he wanted to eat, but he was too busy coloring Batman’s cape to notice. She figured they would just share with their son, as the chances of there being any sort of kids meal were slim to none in this fine establishment.

The talking about food brought a slight growl to Alice's stomach. She'd been worried about this dinner going well for the entire day and hadn't managed to eat anything yet. Despite the fact that she probably already had the menu memorized from coming to the restaurant many times before, Alice still elected to flip through in order to find something that seemed suitable. She was starving and was starting to feel like she was going to order one of everything on the menu (even if that would be incredibly out of her price-range). After deciding that when everyone was ready to order that she would most likely order the smoked salmon, Alice spoke up to the group.
"I'm so glad everyone came," she began, "So, what has everyone been up to all this time?" As soon as she spoke the words, a woman wearing very strong perfume brushed past their table and the smell violently invaded Alice's nose. Immediately she felt sick to her stomach and excused herself from the table back in the direction of the bathroom.

Because of youXX
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Skylar smiled at Winnie when she spoke. She seemed really nice and Skylar couldn’t deny how stunning she looked. Skylar should be happy, right? Why couldn’t she be happy? Cailen certainly deserved to be happy. He was an amazing guy. She needed to stop being sad because Cailen was unavailable. She was also unavailable. She had a boyfriend and he was even sitting right next to her. Something must be wrong with her to be thinking of another guy while her boyfriend was right there. ’Maybe this is why Jack broke up with me. He knew I liked someone else.’ The instant this thought crossed her head, Skylar threw it from her mind. Here she was again, blaming herself for what happened between Jack and her. She couldn’t blame herself. She never acted on her crush for Cailen, Jack did quite a lot of acting on his crush for Bella.
When Winnie asked if anyone knew what they wanted, Skylar remembered that she would actually have to open her menu and look. Of course, the instant she did so, she felt overwhelmed. Everything on the list was quite fancy and some of the items, Skylar had no idea what they even were. Needless to say, she wasn’t used to eating at such fancy dining areas. She instantly felt childish for this. It was enough to make her not want to order anything. With how uncomfortable the night had been, Skylar didn’t really have much of an appetite anyway. Still, it would look strange should she not order anything. She turned to look over at Scott. Would he have any idea what would be good? Simply shrugging his way, Skylar couldn’t bring herself to actually say what was on her mind. There was no telling if Scott would be able to pick up on anything she was trying to convey anyway.
It wasn’t difficult at all to listen to Bella falter with what to call Jack. While it was a relief to not have to hear Bella use gushy affectionate terms for Jack, Skylar still felt a little irritation. Bella was probably only doing it because she was there. Later Bella was probably going to complain about how she couldn’t be herself simply because Skylar had shown up. No doubt the two of them had wished she wouldn’t be around. If Skylar had refused to show up, they could all have a joyous time being couples together. Skylar, once again, found herself relieved that Scott had agreed to come with.
The instant she heard Alice ask what everyone had been up to, Skylar felt her anxiety heighten once again. She didn’t have anything exciting to tell anyone. There wasn’t much she had been doing with her life. Really there was only one thing that she was proud of herself for and that was learning how to play the piano. It was a great stress reliever and Skylar just enjoyed sitting down and let her emotions show through her playing. Everything else she had been doing was in preparation for the loss of her sight, which wasn’t something she was going to go into with everyone there. ...all the words I couldn't say...

Deep in the valley of your soul Tired of worries you can't control With so many mountains left to climb Unanswered questions left to find _____________________________________________________ Cailen was looking at the different items on the menu when Skylar introduced her boyfriend Scott. He smiled his best at the man when he responded. Personally, Cailen would have shaken his hand, but it looked like a two finger wave was all Scott was going to offer. Where did she find this guy? The way he dressed and acted made Cailen think of the sleazy types of guys that you pick up at a bar at three in the morning and he couldn’t help but wonder what Skylar saw in him. Maybe it was just some sort of jealousy that was making Cailen feel this way. For all he knows, Scott could be a good guy. As he stared Scott, Cailen couldn’t help but feel like he knew this guy from somewhere. He seems awfully familiar, where do I know him from? Racking his brain for an answer, nothing was coming up. This was going to bother him for the rest of the night if he couldn’t figure it out.
In between looking for something to order from the menu, Cailen was going through all of the Scotts that he met in his life. Finally, something clicked in his brain and he figured it out. Scott was Jack’s cousin. From what he remembered of him, Cailen did not like him, and neither did Bella. This discovery only confirmed that Skylar is too good for him. Trying to push the bitter thoughts from his mind, Cailen decided to look at he menu some more. It wasn’t his first time eating at a fancy type place like this, but that didn’t mean that he was comfortable with spending so much on food. Money has always been a touchy subject after his gambling problems. After the instance when his gambling almost cost all of them their lives, he has tried to give up his gambling. It took until that time to realize that he did have a gambling problem, but that was back then.
After everyone was safe, the shock nearly made Cailen give up gambling for good. Except for some reason, he still had the appeal to gamble. The only difference now is that it isn’t a problem. He learned how to control the urges to take any lose money and gamble it away. Now he set aside just a little bit of money and went gambling once a month, that was it. He would only bring the money he saved, and once it was gone, so was he. It is a good plan for now, because Cailen isn’t married and doesn’t have a family to support or a house to pay for, but once he does settle down, he knows he’s going to need that money. It was quiet for a little while until Winnie piped up. Cailen was glad that she didn’t show any signs of being uncomfortable with the group and that she actually wanted to interact with them.
At first he was worried if it would be awkward for her to come, but now it seemed like she was the only one that didn’t feel uncomfortable. That was, until Cailen heard her slip on her accent. Knowing Winnie for quite awhile now, he was used to it. Apparently Bella wasn’t because she found it rather amusing. He hoped her comment and giggles wouldn’t make Winnie feel stupid. Cailen knew it was just Bella being Bella, but to someone who doesn’t know her as well, it could be offending. “Cut it out Bella.” Thankfully she didn’t stay on the topic too long, switching from scrutinizing Adam for his hair and commenting on the food. Cailen mentally decided on getting the veal marsala and listened to her go on about the chicken cordon bleu and ask to share with Jack. He heard her quickly catch herself from calling Jack some sweet name. Cailen wasn’t too sure what the problem was, till he remembered Skylar.
He wasn’t too sure on Skylar’s feelings toward Jack and Bella. He knew at first it was hard, she didn’t even come to their wedding, but is five years enough to heal the wounds? Cailen knows firsthand what it’s like losing your first love to someone you thought was a friend. It was tough, really tough at first, but maybe the separation from them was good. Not forced to see Alice and Adam as a happy couple all the time helped Cailen get over the fact that he and Alice just weren’t meant to be. Speaking of Alice, she spoke up for the first time since he arrived. He was about to answer when she got up from the table and walked off. Having the host leave the table, left an awkward silence over the table. It seemed like no one wanted to speak. “Is she alright?” he asked looking in the direction she went in. Having been with Alice for a good portion of his life, he knew when something wasn’t right with her, and now was one of those times. _____________________________________________________
