Kaia was mostly silent as he drove, though it wasn't because she didn't want to talk to him. As he turned down random roads, stopped at stoplights, and took them farther and farther into the city, Kaia was trying to memorize it all. Most of the buildings looked foreign to her and she didn't recognize the roads, but she couldn't help wondering if she had every lived anywhere nearby. Had she walked these streets before?

When they stopped, she blinked a few times to wake herself up from the daze, and then set herself to studying the building. It was beautiful, she had to admit, but it gave her no hints - what did this tricky boy have up his sleeve? In no time he was around to her side of the car and had the door swung open. She only paused to raise her brows at him when the valet mentioned a 'private room', as if she were suddenly suspicious of him. She took his hand immediately though and let him help her out of the car. By the time she was standing, there was a smile on her face that said she was only teasing.

"Alright, just don't let me run into anything." She squeezed his hand with the tease, but closed her eyes regardless. She drew in a deep breath and then tugged a little on his hand. "Lead the way!" She had no idea what he had planned, but he was doing a great build up to it so far.

At her 'suspicious' look the boy merely shrugged his shoulder in an 'I'm completely innocent' sore of way. He squeezed her hand in return to her squeeze and smiled before she closed her eyes. "Promise I won't," he told her walking forward, through the door as one of the workers held it open for the pair. Someone spoke to him and he replied in hush tones as he followed the employee back to their private room.

The room appeared to be darkly lit with the source of the light coming from the ceiling that had a black top littered with stars to signify where she had come from and the night they had first met.. The floor itself appeared to shimmer from the lights, including the candle lit table that sat in the center of the room. The best part, in his opinion was yet to come.

He led her over to the table releasing her hand to pull her chair out for her, he then leaned towards her ear and whispered, "Open your eyes." He leaned forward, both hands now resting on the top of her chair as he waited to see her reaction. "They say darkness encourages hunger, among other things." He stood up, gesturing for her to sit as the best was yet to come. "But I don't think it'll be dark for too long."

What was he up to?

Kaia stumbled along in his wake as he drew her through hallways. She tried to listen when he spoke to others, but could not understand a word of what was being said. It was frustrating and exhilarating all at once, but mostly just frustrating. She wasn't very good with surprises, it seemed.

She was aware the moment they plunged into darkness. The shift between well lit hallways and the darkness of the room was obvious, even behind her closed eyelids. That made her all the more curious though and, when he finally told her to open her eyes, she couldn't have been more relieved.

The first thing she saw was the candles on the table and she smiled at the gesture, pleased that he had gone so far to be romantic. Then she realized there was another light source, and her eyes rose to take in the dozens and dozens of sparkling stars that lined the dark ceiling. Her mouth gaped as she took it all in, tracing a line from one lighted patch to the next, and then her gaping mouth turned into a smile that expressed just how amazed she was with him in that moment. If she was a more sappy kind of girl, she probably would have cried.

Distantly she was aware that he was talking to her and she forced her eyes back down to look at him. Something about it not being dark long? She had no idea, so she simply reached out with a hand gave a very swift, soft stroke to his cheek. She was speechless, but she wanted to show her appreciation somehow.

Finally, she turned and sat down in the chair he had pulled out for her, and let her eyes linger upon the stars overhead once more. She was already blown away by the thought he had put into this so far, she had no idea what he could possibly do next.

"It's beautiful, Chase," she said finally, little more than a whisper.

His heart was thudding in his chest loudly, or so he thought but he would deny it but if Kaia mentioned anything he would deny it. He had stuck his hands into his pockets as he waited for her reaction anxiously. Never before had he put so much effort into a first date as he had this time. He wasn't sure why but something about Kaia, and how sad she had seemed, the fact that she knew nothing of her life before becoming a part of the negaverse made him want to impress her. To wow her while he tried to woo her.

He wanted this time to be different.

He opened his mouth to say something to her but closed it when he decided not to. He stepped away as the room seemed to light up around Kaia. Lights had been carefully strung along her chair, so carefully that they had been hard to notice or felt even especially in the original darkness of the room. "My brightest star is you," he whispered in her ear having leaned forward just as the lights came on.

As the lights on the chair sprang to life around her, the awed smile on her lips widened and she appeared to be, for the first time, entirely speechless.

His words as he leaned down cause a bright flush across her pale cheeks. It was easy to see because of the way the lights made her center stage, lighting up every inch of her from the long, thick dreads to the apples of her cheeks. She couldn't have hid that even if she tried, so she simply turned to look up at him, displaying her weakness for him to see.

Had anyone ever cared so much for her? Had anyone ever done anything like this for her? It ate at her to know that maybe, a long time ago, someone had cared about her like this. It ate at her to think that she had once had a lover, a family - a whole support system that would do anything for her.

As she stared up into Chase's amber eyes, she knew only one thing for certain: only he cared about her so much, now. There was only Chase.

She brought up one hand slowly and reached up to cup his cheek, stroking her pale fingers across the soft skin slowly. "Thank you, for bringing back my light."

As far as first dates went, this was probably the best one that he had ever experienced. It was also the first one he had gone to such extremes for, so when he saw the delight and the slight blush that colored her cheeks he could easily say this was one of the happier times in his life. He watched her silently as she reached out to stroke his cheek and he caught her hand, holding it there against his skin.

"You were always shining, I just reminded you that your light was there," he told her turning her hand so he held her fingers and her palm was in his. He kissed the top of it before stepping back, his grip loosing but never fully letting go until he was too far away to hold on any longer.

He rounded the other side of the table and sat in the chair across from his date, practically beaming at her. "I really, really like you Kaia..." he trailed off, nerves starting to get the better of him again. "I guess I just wanted to show you that and..." his voice softened as their waiter entered the room. "I hope it worked," he gave her a crooked grin.

Kaia stared up into his eyes as he held her hand against his cheek, letting it relax in his grip.

Then he spoke and the blush on her cheeks ignited furiously. She stared at him for a long moment before her gaze faltered and her eyes looked down with a soft brush of her eyelashes against the rosy apples of her cheeks. She was smiling though, if shyly, but she had no idea what to even say to that.

How did someone respond to the most beautiful compliment they'd ever heard? 'Thank you' seemed like a cop out, empty gratitude, but she couldn't think of anything else. So she said nothing, and just let the silence speak for her instead.

She glanced up as he kissed her hand and followed him with her eyes as he began to walk away. Once he let go of her hand, her arm remained extended momentarily as if she were reaching for him, but then she slowly retracted it and folded her hand back into her lap with the other. She laced her fingers together and twiddled her thumbs in a nervous gesture, but the smile remained on her face no matter how unsure and unfamiliar she was with this situation.

"I really like you too Chase," it felt cheesy to her, like children, but somehow it was alright in the middle of all the official stars. "No one else has ever done anything like this for me," she shook her head as she said it, conscious that the waiter was approaching, "not ever." She answered his crooked grin with that same soft smile and reached out briefly to touch his hand where it sat on the table, hoping that would express more than her baffled, unsteady words could.

She squeezed his hand and then withdrew hers slowly, hesitantly, and tucked it into her lap again as the waiter came up to the side of their table. She looked up at him pleasantly, though said nothing, because she wasn't quite sure what Chase had planned past the dazzling lights.

Saying, 'I really like you' might have been a child-like way of telling someone that you liked them and wanted to be with, or date them, but it appeared that neither teen really knew how to tell each other otherwise. He didn't care though because he was elated to hear that she felt the same, even if their time knowing each other was rather brief, but the candy haired boy didn't care. He figured he had plenty of time to get to know the beautiful girl sitting across from him.

She gave him butterflies.

He opened his mouth to respond, to say something cheesy or even dumb like, 'Oh good, I was worried' but he didn't instead he just continued to beam brightly at her. He was grateful when the waiter spoke to him, "Are we ready for the entree?" Chase nodded and he left to retrieve the food.

"I know you said that you're not really sure what kind of food you like so I thought we'd go with something simple," he explained as the waiter returned setting two plates of penne rosa, sprinkled with Parmesan cheese, tomatoes, and spinach. Desert would follow when they finished dinner.

"Afterward I thought it would be nice to have a little fun," he told her hinting towards a game of some sorts afterward. He didn't specify because he wanted to surprise her with everything, though the game he planned was simple and would be followed with a walk in the park because he liked things coming to a full circle. Most of the time.

Kaia sat patiently as Chase spoke with the waiter, realizing immediately that this was not going to be the usual sit down and order type of meal. She knew the usual protocol and that made it easy to see that this was something else entirely. Once Chase began to explain to her, it all made sense.

"That's sweet of you, to pick out something you think I'd like," it was a gesture she wouldn't have thought anyone would do. Why go through all the trouble of doing something when it could just blow up in his face? As the meals were set down in front of them though and the little streams of steam rose and coiled in the back lighting of the stars, the smell stirred hunger in her stomach for the first time that day. She'd been so busy being nervous that she hadn't had much to eat.

"It smells delicious," she said softly, pulling her plate toward her and picking up her utensils. Then she stopped as she heard the rest of what he said, looking at him with her head tilted slightly to the side. She had expected this to be it - it was beautiful, it was unexpected, it would have been more than enough.

No, Chase had to keep going.

"You really are something, Chase Black." She just smiled then and looked down at her food, scooping up the first tiny bite. It was a mild flavor, but delicious, and she brought up the napkin to hide her lips even as they smiled around the food. She was clearly pleased, and speechless again.

She had a feeling he was going to surprise her endlessly over the next few hours.

"I know this isn't your typical dinner date, but I thought we could save that for another time?" He sounded hopeful. She had already told him that she liked him but he couldn't help but fret that she might come to reject him still. First dates were truly the worst when it came to nerves. He took a bite when she did, trying to pace things carefully so that he did not have a mouth full of food whenever she would say something to him. He hated the awkward silence that often occurred when someone was trying to finish chewing their food before responding.

"I am what I am," he chuckled shrugging his shoulders as he studied her face. "I can be quite charming when I want," he joked setting his fork down on his napkin. "Of course it helps when I'm with someone as beautiful as you are," he told her with ease. He had no problem complimenting her because it was simply facts, it was impressing her that concerned him yet it appeared that he had nothing to worry about.

He was doing a pretty good job at wowing her already.

He picked his fork up again and ate slowly, prepared for whatever conversation may erupt. He paused between bites, "Just let me know when you're ready for the desert."

"No, no, it's fine," she said quickly, excitedly, between a pause from chewing. "This is.." she trailed off as she tried to figure out what she wanted to say. She took another bite of her food and chewed slowly, letting her eyes roam around the room. She took in every detail, every glimmering little 'star', and as she looked back at him she knew exactly what she wanted to say.

"I don't know much about dating, or about what being in a relationship is like, but I know that you put a lot of effort and thought into this." She sat back in her seat and smiled, first at him, and then at everything. "No one else has ever or will ever have a first date like this. You made it for me." She glanced down at her hands, shyly toying with them for a moment, and then brought her gaze back up to his. "Don't ever think that this is anything less than extraordinary."

Then, out of her nervousness, she went back to eating her food - only pausing once more as he showered compliments on her and made her blush. She didn't want it to get cold, though, so she just smiled in the brief period between one bite and the next. Once she'd eaten the majority of her food (she was tiny, she rarely every finished a restaurant sized plate) she set her fork down.

"I think now would be perfect."

Chase looked away, casting his gaze downwards to hide the blush that threaten to show itself on his cheeks. Still, his bashful even embarrassed smile was visible as he lifted his chin slightly, looking up at her through his eyelashes. He was half tempted to shoot back something silly, cheesy but complimentary like, 'don't think you're anything less than extraordinary'. But he held himself, there was plenty of time for compliments and he knew better than to diminish the worth of her compliment by basically giving her the same one.

Instead, he said something simple, "thank you." To know that she was enjoying this made the teen happy, he had put so much time and work into it that to know it was going well was more than he could have asked for. "I wanted to give you the best," he confided in her, his voice soft. Perhaps it was the ambition within him that drove him to spend so much time on the date, perhaps it was ambition that drove him to strive to provide something perfect.

It was his pride that swelled when he found he was successful.

"Good," he grinned glancing over to the kitchen door where the waiter had been waiting for the boy's signal before he disappeared. Shortly after he approached them both with a slice of cake. He set both before them. The cake itself was rather simple, a white cake with chocolate frosting but it was the pattern that adorned the actual cake. The cream colored zebra striping that resembled Alkaid's leggings and the orange frosted stars in the center of each cake.

He spent a lot of attention on detail.

She'd sat there patiently, glancing between Chase and the doorway where the waiter had disappeared. She was curious, she had to admit, and though she was usually a very patient person, it was hard to keep herself from squirming in her seat. Personal surprises were a hard thing for anyone to be patient over.

When the waiter set the two dishes down, her face was blank for a few moments. She seemed to be stunned into complete surprise that was only broken by the very soft gasp from her parted lips. Then that gasp bubbled to a laugh and her face split with a bright, wide smile.

"You really paid that much attention to my.. uniform?" She paused near the end, as she was about to say 'fuku' but was mindful that even if this dinner seemed completely private, there were always eyes and ears around. She reached out to touch the edge of the plate with delicate fingers, turning it slowly so she could view it from every angle. She almost didn't want to eat it.

But then she picked up her fork and sliced off the tiniest part of the tip, like she was afraid to ruin the design. She took the bite though, and smiled around the sweet dessert. She wasn't huge on sweets and candy but for such a personal thing she could make an exception.

While Chase had known, from the very beginning, that Kaia (Alkaid at the time) was gorgeous, he was a boy and couldn't help but give her a once over. Or a twice over or...well it didn't matter, he had been discreet about it and she probably hadn't even noticed. As courteous and gentlemanly as he was, he was still male and still had the tendency to check girls out.

Hey, it wasn't his fault that the 'uniforms' were revealing!

He had to be careful with his response, he didn't want her thinking that he was a complete creeper. Because he wasn't one, really he wasn't! "A little," he admitted with a shrug. "It was a little dark but whenever the lamp light would hit you..." he trailed off. "I just pay attention to detail," he stated though it seemed like he was struggling with his words.

For the first time he was struggling with being eloquent with his words. "I paid a lot of attention to everything," he whispered watching her eat before taking a bite of his own piece. He loved sweets and while the cake itself was moist and sweet, it was the frosting that was rich in sweetness.

Kaia sat in silence for the most part as he tried to explain his 'attention to detail', taking small bites of her cake and trying not to smile too much lest it make her laugh. The last thing she wanted to do was end up spraying the table in half-chewed crumbs.

"That kind of attention to your surroundings is admirable," she said finally, after he had finally talked himself into silence. If she had been any other person she probably would have found it slightly creepy, or joked that it was even if she didn't. However, Kaia was still the proper lady that her forgotten life had taught her to be. Of all the things she had forgotten, her manners were not among them.

"One day it could save your life, you know." She took one last bite of the cake and then sat her fork down on the edge of it with a small 'clink'. She'd only eaten about half of it, but the cake was sweet and the icing was richer. She'd eaten more than she wanted to out of politeness but there was just no way she could convince herself to down the rest of it without making herself nauseous.

"But, most importantly, I find it very endearing." And then she did laugh, half covering her mouth with a hand but even that couldn't hide the way her face lit up.
