She was taken back from the sharp yank of her hair, and her breath cam in a gasp. Her eyes wide, "What exactly am I ready for?" Her heart thundered in her head.

"The trials of strength, child. When they are through, you will be stronger for surviving."

Acacia felt faint, "How are you going to test me?"

Mary gave her an indulgent but not reassuring smile. "A very good question. Tell me, child, do you know the stories of your religion? The mythos, the legends? Do you know how I first had my trial by fire?"

"I...I don't know anything." Acacia felt faint, but she needed to keep her head if she was going to make it out of this.

"Then shall I tell you the story of how the Dark Goddess was born?" she crooned, nuzzling the mare again. Her child. Her little lost lamb.

Acacia felt an icy chill as the mare touched her. She was shaking, "Yes...." she needed to buy time. Anything to buy time.

"You see, I too was born to frail mortal flesh. I was born to pathetic weak parents, much like your own. With a boring normal inconsequential family, as were you, from a nothing basket of weeds, much as you were. Then one day I took ill. A terrible plague that killed many. I died. My parents had me buried but set u a bell so that when I rose from the grave, they would be prepared for my coming, to praise me with all due fanfare. However, they were weak and their will frail, their faith poor. They left.
"I dug myself free of my deep grave, shoveling night-soil with my hooves, scraping myself raw and bloody. I won free, and emerged from the grave stronger. I shed my mortal shackles and rose a Goddess.
"When I confronted those who had once been my parents, they fled, knowing they had failed and deserved eternal punishment. I was merciful and allowed them to live. I returned t what had been my home and learned my new powers. Armed with all I needed, I set out to aid my children. Young ones like you, soft one.
"I cannot guarantee that you will also become a Goddess, but following the first ritual you will be stronger, with each trial you survive, you will come closer to your own maximum potential. So... shall we begin?" she smirked.

Acacia could feel her teeth chattering in fear. This...this mare was crazy, she said she had died? That she had lived again? What did she want from her, what did she expect her to do?
"What..." She cleared her throat, "What test?"

"Your first test will be a ritualistic version of my own first trial, as is meet. I will simply bury you alive." She spoke somewhere between calm and an equine purr. As though this were not traumatic, but a happy opportunity.

Acacia couldn't contain herself. "You're crazy! I won't! You can't!" She took to her heels attempting to run.

Mary's head shot forward and she caught the tail of the other mare in her teeth, pulling back sharply.
Taphos, the small bloody raccoon familiar, first disciple of the dark goddess dashed into Acacia's path, and spread it's paws, as if to bar her from fleeing further.

Acacia felt her hoove go out from under her as she landed heavily on the ground. She tried to dig her heels in, but she couldn't get away. "Let me go! Let me go!" She coudln't stop herself from shivering.

Taphos climbed up on top of Acacia and put its claws near her eyes, threateningly.
Mary let go of her tail and lifted one hoof over one of Acacia's hind knees. "I see... you need help finding your courage," she crooned. Her hoof came down sharply on the other mare's leg with a satisfying noise.

The little raccoon caused her to shiver and shut her eyes quickly. She was expecting him to try to gauge her eyes out, but the shock came differently. She both heard the sickening crunch and felt the intense pain as the hoof came down on her.
Acacia found herself screaming, the pain was blinding--so intense she neither wanted to move or be still. She felt sick, and now she knew that she couldn't escape. She was stuck here--she was going to die.
Escape a fire, search for what's left of your family and still it ended like this. Face down in the dirt, scared--terrified even and in pain. It was everythign she could do to keep the black fog from overtaking her. "Please...let me go." The world was going blacker by the second. But if she didn't fight this, would she ever open her eyes again?
