Okay, so I think associating story books with writing has Gemini interested in writing. I even bought a few home schooling books to help her along, though she won’t look at those unless I’m using them myself. She has been going through all of her books, copying the words down and learning what they mean. I’ve convinced her to write a little for herself this time, and she wants to do it all on her own, with only her reference books. Good luck reading!

Gemini tried to sneak frogs into the house today. She has a few that hang out by the pond outside, but she got the idea to introduce them to her other fish that are within the house. For one thing, frogs aren’t exactly privy to salt water. For another, there isn’t anything floating in the tunnels for them to sit on to get out of the water.

I had been reading my room when I heard Gemini yelp and a lot of splashing and some sort of racket. Of course, I quickly jumped up to see what was happening. I’d thought she maybe had tried to climb out and slipped and knocked a table over. Well, I was half right. What I saw would have been humorous if it hadn’t been within the house. First was Gemini, hanging off the ladder by one hand, a toad in her other hand, her face red as could be. The other was frogs. Frogs and toads everywhere. And water. The carpet was soaked, and spotted from where the wet amphibians had hopped around.

I herded the frogs out the back door, which I think has to be the oddest thing I’ve ever done in my life so far, and I had Gemini clean up the majority of the mess. Then we had a good long talk about what animals and pets go where. I don’t think I need to tell her twice now. Later, when it was almost time for bed, I heard her outside talking to her web footed friends in an apologetic tone. It makes me wonder if she can actually talk with…. Eh. Never mind.

Gemini has had a hard time adjusting to Chadrick’s growth. We had both thought he was loud as a dew, but now he’s a little megaphone! Now that he’s able to follow us around, Gemini can’t get her time alone as easily as before. She has been getting headaches, which result in belly aches. She has been spending far too much time at the bottom of her pond, so I’ve taken to keeping her in my room, which I have designated as a quiet zone. She'll lie in there with a doll or two and a book, and it's almost like she's not even inside.

When she isn’t ill, and when Chadrick is a bit calmer, the two actually get along quite well. While the boy speaks a lot, he can’t read yet, so Gemini enjoys reading to him herself. I got different books for Chad, not about fish, but she doesn’t mind because she knows he likes them. She’s taking on the role of big sister when she’s able to, and it’s quite a pleasure to watch. Even though they’re actually about the same size despite the age difference, she still tucks him in at night and gets him food and holds him in her lap. I think she is curious about his feathers, because when she brushes his hair she constantly breaks to pet them. He doesn’t mind this at least.

Speaking of hair, Gemini’s golden locks are so long, and she won’t let me cut it. She says it has to be long because mermaids all have long hair. I’ll admit, it’s lovely hair, but I worry about it catching or her tripping on it when she’s crawling. I convinced her to go to a hair salon with me and get it braided. Once we got there, it took a while for her to stop sinking down on the chair from trying to hide from the stylist. Eventually, she had a very nice French braid style going. She kept picking at it on the way home though, so I don’t think it will last long…

I write again today. Corny say I geting better at it. I like to write. I want to show Chadrick how to write. Do not think he will sit four me, cause he like to move a whole lot. He always run around the house. He loud. Very loud. So much talk he gave me headaches sometimes. I get better quick, so no worry. Corny makes her room what she call quiet zone, so nice to escape to.

Corny tryed to take me to get my hair styled. She take took me to salon place. It smelled icky, hard to breath. It had lots of strangers too. It was scary, but the lady that styled my hair turned out nice. It take took her long time to style my hair in what is called braid. It pretty, but I like hair to be loose. Tied up it pulls on my head too much. And I say no cutting. I like it long. It is fun to brush. I brush Chadrick’s hair when he can sit still four me.

I like coloring too. Corny buys me lots of paper to color on. Some already have picture for me to fill in, but not all of them. I use more crayons, but am getting gooder with the color pencils. The color pencil makes it easier to stay inside the picture lines. Lots of bright colors look best. I like to draw my frog friends. They happy to see pictures of them selves. Make many happy noises. Corny uses magnets and puts my pictures on the food cooler, and something she call sticky tack to put my pictures on the walls, so everyone can see them. I happy when others like my pictures, espeshialy Corny and Chadrick and my frogs.

Gemini is such a little trooper. Chadrick broke his arm and we had to get him to the hospital. We’d been outside when the silly boy tried jumping from a tree to fly, and- Oh, well, it looks like Gemini wants to tell things from her perspective!

~*~

I outside with Corny when Chadrick started yelling at the top of his lungs. Corny grabbed me and carried me to front of house, where Chadrick was in a ball shape and yelling very loudly, and not in his happy way. He sounded scared, and in pain. Me and Corny both try to calm him down, but he keep on yelling. I start getting scared to, but I try to stay calm and hold him close. Corny got her car and took us to a giant bilding. So many strangers inside though, so I hide against Corny. I try to do better next time. How is Chadrick supposed to be calm if I can’t show him how? They took Chadrick to a room by himself, and he still yelling. Then, they tell us his arm is broken, and wrapped his arm in a big hard cast. Corny said I could write on it later for him.

Chadrick stopped yelling when we leave left the hospital, but still had stuffy nose. When we got home, Corny gave us ice cream. She said we had stress full day, and deserve ice cream. I had strawberry, and Chadrick had chocolate. Was yummy, and he seems happy again. Then I find Corny writing, and I want to write too, cause she said that writing helps to feel better after stress full day. I think she is right. I’m very tired though. Going to get ready for bed.

I got to go to the ride park with Corny and Chadrick. Nice to get out of the house. We stayed first where the fast rides were, and Chadrick had the most fun there. I had fun too, but the faster roller coasters are scary. They move too fast, and gave me a tummy ache. Chadrick liked those, not me. I liked the spinning cups ride, because you can spin the ride. I liked the airplane ride too, because it moved up and down in a circle without going too fast. I got my picture drawn by someone with a big long name, and it turned out nice. Corny put it on the living room wall for me. Chadrick got one too, and it’s next to mine.

When Corny was getting dinner, a bunch of boys came over and tried to tease us, yelling and name calling and pointing at my fin. I was scared, but Chadrick was so brave. He stood up and told those bullies to go away! He said if they didn’t go away, he’d scratch out their eyes with his claws! I saw the boy in front of him get really pale, and then they all ran away, saying something about how they’d be back, but we didn’t see them the rest of the day. Why couldn’t I be brave like Chadrick? I’m the big sister. He said it was okay, but I don’t think so. I try to be braver from now on.

After that, Corny brought us hot dogs, which are not really made out of dogs, and fries. It was yummy. Then, we had to sit a while before going to the water park. This was my favorite part! I went on every ride, except the tall slide. It was too high. But I went on twisty slide, and short slide, and wave pool, and all other rides. There was a splashing pool were I see other girls with real legs. They not mean like boys. They say they think my fin is neat. That made me happy, and we had fun together.

On the way home, I wanted to sleep, but Chadrick keeped kept talking. We home now, and Chadrick is already asleep. I tucked him in, and thanked him for standing up to the bullies, but he was already snoring. He so sweet. I still have to brush my teeth, then I go to bed too.

Corny took Chadrick to a sport thingy yesterday. He told me it was fun. I can’t play sports, because I don’t have legs. Corny said when I’m older, there would be special sports I can do, but I don’t know how. She’s acting like it’ll be a big surprise. But after they came home, and after Chadrick told me about all his stuff, Corny left him with the sitter and took me out to a landscaping show.

It was lotsa fun, even though I was stuck in the cart. We got to see lotsa different plants and trees and decorashuns. There were not many kids there, but I didn’t mind. I liked seeing everything. Corny let me pick one of everything too! It was hard to pick just one. There were trees with flowers on them that are really pretty, and some with pretty papery bark. There were bushes of all different colors and shapes. Corny said that some bushes were cut to their shape, not growing that way. And so many flowers! Some were the size of my hand, and others the size of my head! And there were lotsa rocks and even fountains and statues. I had to pick because by then it was getting dark.

I picked out a tree called a Weeping Willow, with will grow really tall and has long, droopy branches. I got a bush called a lilac bush, which is supposed to be yummy for butterflies. And a big leafy plant called a hosta, which likes shade, and it will sit next to the two rocks I already have next to my pond. Corny also let me buy a few stone frogs and a stone crab, and a pretty ball that shines and has different colors in different light.

When we left, Corny needed help loading it all into the car. I wish I could have helped, but I was stuck in the cart. Then at home, she helped me pick where to put everything! I wanted it all close to my pond, though two of the stone frogs and the crab are in my tunnels in the house. I can’t wait for the lilac to bring the butterflies, but Corny said it might not be for a while because it still has to grow more. I hope it’s not too long. After all that, I was so sleepy I forgot to write about it, so I do it now.

Gemini has been rather quiet for a while, more than usual. Something has her worried; she didn’t even want to write in her journal! I think that she’s nervous about growing. She feels that it’s going to happen soon, and I can see it as her bones seem to be growing faster than the rest of her; a growth spurt, surely.

At least she's excited about her outfit. Sticking with the swimsuit material, she picked out a lovely dark emerald green color halter top style with a narrow cranberry color belt just below the bust. Where the neck strap meets the torso part of the top is a white shell shaped pin. I think it will look great on her.

Sorry to cut short, but Chadrick claims he’s out of bird food for his new pets, which simply means he lost it.

……

What is going on here!? They keep growing when I’m not there! I couldn’t find the bird food, so I went to the store to buy some. By the time I returned, Gemini had grown into a teenager! She was sitting nonchalantly on the floor, reading a book to Chadrick when I walked in. When she saw the expression of shock that I’m sure I was wearing, she blushed brightly, allowing her long bangs to slip forward to hide behind. She’d gotten herself all dressed and fixed up without me!

The top fits like a glove on her developing figure, ending right at her hips. Her hair is even longer than before, but she has it all pulled up into a high pony tail, from which it came down in waves, save for the bangs parted slightly to the side that sweeps and angles across her forehead and covers her eye and cheek, ending in a point just above her jaw. The pearls that had once been around her neck were now hanging in multiple strands in her hair. I’m still not sure how or why those grow when she does. A miniature pink water lily was pinned above the hair tie. Even tied up, her hair goes down nearly passed her waist. A pair of clip-on earrings matching the shell on her shirt are on her ears.

Once she got over being bashful about her change, she quickly crawled over to give me a hug. She may be growing up, but I know she’s still my sweet Gemini.

Now that I’m a teenager, I believe I’m going to keep my journal to myself. I’m sure Corny will get a few words in at some point. I suppose I can’t help my mother’s antics. She’ll do as she wishes, as long as she doesn’t go through all the pages as she promised she wouldn’t when I started writing my own entries. And.. yes, I’ve started calling her ‘mother,’ which I can tell pleases her greatly. I’ve got Chadrick saying it as well, because he thinks it makes sense, too.

I startled poor Chadrick when I grew in front of him, but I calmed him down with a little reading. Then mother came home with Chadrick’s birdseed and was shocked as well. I feel bad that she’s upset about missing me grow, but I suppose I’m still shy about the process, since it isn’t the same way humans grow. I could tell it was coming, but the change itself happens so quickly.. It might scare her. She’s already shocked enough with how I grew. She has made several comments about my appearance, and I can’t tell if she approves or not. She says I’m lovely, but has made jokes about getting me oversized shirts to hide my figure from the boys. …Apparently she thinks I’ll attract attention, but I think my fins will do that more than my figure. Besides.. boys want a girl who can walk with them, don’t they?

Things are better now though, and I’m very happy. My arms are much stronger now, and I still fit into the house tunnels. I’m glad mother thought to make them so big when I was still small, so that I wouldn’t outgrow them. Speaking of outgrowing things, I’ve outgrown those carts she used to push me around in. My tail is very long… So, as a growing day present, mother and Chadrick gave me a wheelchair! It’s a wonderful invention; a chair on wheels. Now I can push myself almost wherever I wish to go. Mother says she’s also going to see if I can be enrolled in the high school, like my friend Conan is. I’d love to be able to be in school. He’s always liked it so much, and I hope I can do well and make mother proud.

I can’t believe that Chadrick has grown already. He’s such a young man now. I’m afraid he’s going to be one of those stare stereotypical (had to look this up in mother’s dictionary. How silly) teenage boys I always hear about. He walks around all the time with what is called a strut, and likes looking into the mirrors. I like to tease him by saying that the mirror obsession is simply his bird side showing through, since his birds have mirrors that they look at as well. I’m just waiting for him to start pecking at the ‘other bird’ in the reflection. He doesn’t appreciate this much, but at least he laughs with me still. I don’t want him to grow up too fast…

Concerning myself.. I suppose I look nice enough. I really like that the pearls are in my hair now. My hair is so long, too. I have to be careful that I don’t forget about it when I’m in my wheelchair. It is long enough to get caught in the wheels! It has happened only once, and I got it out on my own, but I don’t want the chair to be taken from me or have my hair cut. It’d be simply humiliating. Especially if I did it at school. I’ve been accepted to high school finally! I’ll be sure to write all about it once I’m sure of what I’ve seen and done. I’m so excited, and certain that if Chadrick and Conan and the others can handle school, then I can, too. I’ve tried asking Chadrick about how to adjust to going to school, but he’d been going since he was little and said he couldn’t remember. We’re both adjusting to high school though, so at least we’re doing it together. And as the saying goes; "so far, so good."

I found out that the school has a swim team, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to join. My fins will probably be considered an advantage, since I swim very fast, and I don’t like any of those chemicals that are put into the water to keep it clean. I don’t know if I’d want to swim in that. That’s okay though. I’ve met a few of the girls on the team, and they seem nice. Some of them don’t mind my fins, and have even invited me to the beach to swim and race! I’m very excited about that, too.

I’ve decided to not join the swim team. The school thinks it would be unfair to have me swim. My friends complained about it, which I appreciate, but I understand. And, I’m a little relieved that the decision was made for me. I really didn’t want to swim in those yucky chemicals, but I didn’t want to offend my friends either, since they swim in it every day. I’ll always go to the swim meets though to cheer them on. I stay off to the side, since I don’t like the crowd, but my friends know I’m there, and that’s what matters.

I’ve been working on my pond little by little. Mom bought me this bed that looks like an empty giant oyster shell. It’s quite lovely. I’ve lined it with sand and seaweed, and it’s very comfortable. I also have a bed inside the house, but it’s one of those dry ones, and I don’t like the mattress very much. I only use it when the water is too chilly to sleep in. And I finally got the crab I’ve always wanted. Two, actually. One is Sebastian, as promised. They fight a lot though. I’ve tried talking to them about it, but… they’re crabs. Not quite like Sebastian in the movie, but I won’t be getting rid of them.

I have a lot more fish as well. I love having them as company when I’m in the pond. It can get lonely at times… I’m grateful that mother understands. While I sometimes wish that Chadrick had been a water type of dream as well, I think that his personality would have been impossible to live with if I didn’t have that space to myself. He wouldn’t like being so restricted either. He's lucky he found the cross country team to relieve some of that energy of his. And he's doing so well. I'm so happy for him.

I’m feeling a little more confident about school now. I’ve been wearing a blanket over my fins so that I don’t have to be stared at by every other student. Most of them know about it, but it doesn’t stop them from gawking. I wish they wouldn’t, but they can’t help it. Humans are naturally curious about what they don’t understand. …And, yes, I’ve gotten plenty of teasing for it. If Chadrick happens to be nearby, he’s always willing to help me. I suppose, like the one boy said, us ‘freaks gotta stick together.’ ..I don’t think we’re freaks though. I admit, having fins is inconvenient, and Chadrick sometimes yearns for those shoes that he can’t wear, but we like how we are. Many humans can be so closed minded about such things. I’m glad we have mother, and Chadrick had his track team, and I have a few friends of my own, too. Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to go to one of those parties the girls talk about and be able to make more friends.

Poor mother has been sick with the flu, so I’ve been helping out around the house. I wish Chadrick was more willing to help. It makes him seem so selfish. I suppose he is a teenage boy though. …And he’s never exactly been the best at doing extra for others. Though, I am a teenage girl. I’m much different than the majority of the girls in school. I often wonder why this is. I thought at first that it might be because I’m a dream, but then Nergui grew into her teenage body, and she’s very different from me as well, and grew up so pretty. I just don’t like standing out any more than I already do.

At any rate, the time doing the chores has helped me get much more used to using the wheelchair in the house. I’ve very good at maneuvering it now. Funny thing though. Chadrick keeps trying to get me to arm wrestle with him now. What an absurd notion. I keep insisting on how silly an idea it is, but he wants to do it. Perhaps another time, when mother gets better and can make sure he’s fair about it. I don’t think he’d cheat his own sister, but who knows what ideas go through a man’s head? Well, an almost-man’s head. Especially if he starts losing. He’s gotten so competitive lately. I have to admit that my arms are strong since I have to use them so much. They’re not absurdly large, of course, but it’s obvious they don’t go to waste. I wouldn’t want bulky muscles anyway. The boys can keep those.
