Reisa snickered in her head. She was putting some nice distance between them... but she knew it was only a matter of short time before her stamina wore thin. Stifling the mental snickers, she made a mental note: stop trying to end chases by hiding and make the human run longer; the longer the chase, the more she could build up this weak point and if she looses this race she'd have a better chance winning the next.
Of course, Reis had no intention of loosing this.
Making a turn so sharp she about tripped, the vixen began weaving though trees, hoping Kol would follow her every turn instead of pelting straight ahead. Granted, this was more of the distance kind of run, but maybe she could swing things to help her out.

)) Kol watched the fluffy tip of Reisa's tail up ahead. He was glad the humans did their best to keep everything green, it made it easy to keep her in sight. Especially once she started weaving! He knew better than to mimic her movements, where his muscled bulk would slow him down in all those weaves, but did make a few turns to keep her in sight.
As Kol burst through another small thicket of trees he noticed two things. The first was that he had gained just a bit of distance on Reisa. The second was that the tree had become more manicured, and dirt paths and flowers were starting to appear. He was still in the "wild" forest part, but Reisa had reached the tame gardens, the forests humans from the city liked to visit. The actual town must be getting closer.
Kol tried to put on a bit more speed, hoping to close more distance before they reached the buildings.

Yes! Her paws started finding themselves crossing dirt and jumping over flower beds, which meant buildings were close! This was good for Reis, because her weaving tactic had failed. Kol was smart, he didn't fall for her trick. She didn't hate that about him~
"Better hurry!" Reisa called back. "We're getting closer to MY part of town!" Narrowly avoiding a group of humans, the vixen urged her legs to move faster, faster so her chaser wouldn't be able to catch up.

)) Kol couldn't help but laugh, even as he was still far behind. He loved a woman with spunk, and he had to admire Reisa's running technique. Not that he was known for any particular talent in running himself, but skill combined with spunk always made the chase more fun.
"You had a head-start, babe, that's cheating," he called back, trying to infuse some accusation into his voice. He was pretty sure all his efforts at looking pitiful would just earn some laughs from Reisa, but Kol wasn't expecting anything else, really.
Already he'd gained a bit more ground, his own feet hitting the human-cut grass, pavement, and thinned out trees.

The vixen laughed, though not so much at the accusation than the 'babe'. It would take her a bit to get used to Eshkol's casual use of names, and it reminded her of how his flirting got them in this race. She laughed even harder when her paws stumbled and she had to scramble so the male couldn't close the distance!
"All is fair and love and war, and this, my dear Kol, is war!" Reis tossed back, grinning widely.

)) The distance between the two was still the same, though now Reisa was traveling down more far more manicured paths, with smaller trees and slopes of grass, flowers gathered in clusters bordered by symetrical stones.
The grin on Kol's face was as wide as ever, and even running he managed a wink; whether Reisa saw it or not he wasn't sure. "Oh? So is love being pulled into the war as well," he asked, voice teasing.

A few humans were starting to take notice of the streaking foxes, but Reis took no notice of them. She had her eyes ahead of her, trained on the city she could see beyond the pretty trees. Just a bit further...
"Keep dreaming, Slowpoke!" The vixen threw back, her voice just as teasing. Did she like him? He wasn't the worst fox she met. Kol was fun, light, and knew when to get serious, but was she going to throw him a bone? Oh heck no. This flirt was going to have to prove himself before she would let herself believe he was different from the other tail-chasers.
Still grinning, Reis let her tongue hang out for the sake of being silly, and besides, she really was having fun.

)) Whatever Kol's response to that would have been was lost. Unfortunately, with all his attention taken by Reisa, he hadn't noticed the pair of humans sitting under a tree in a slightly secluded fashion until he was right on top of them.
No harm no foul, really. Sure he'd startled with, if the uttered oaths coming from the male and the high-pitch scream from the female were anything to judge by. And he might have maybe stomped in some of their food, potato salad if he had to guess by smell alone. He didn't stop to check though, he'd already lost enough ground.

((ok now I'm craving potato salad! XD))
Reisa slowed down just a hair to look back at the chaos she heard behind her, and bust up laughing when she saw Kol high-tailing it from a freaked out woman and a man with a shaking fist. Leave it to a male to make a mess!
Unfortunately, she was distracted enough that she ran smack into a vendor. This race was turning out to be more of an obstacle course! Reisa jumped up on the vendor's stand, swiped some cotton candy, and in a fluid continuous motion jumped down and hit the ground running. She had no clue what to do with the sugar puff, but the thrill of another swipe poured into her paws.

)) Maybe it was the epic powers of the potato salad (or the running in fear for his life from an angry male human), maybe stealing cotton candy from park vendors carried a curse. Maybe both. Either way Kol felt a surge of glee run through him as he caught up with Reisa. He was almost literally on her heels, could smell the sugary treat she'd swiped.
"Come on, Ree, babe, you know after the initial surge of energy sugar just makes you crash," he called, unable to actually laugh due to the need to hold on to every scrap of oxygen he had, but the mirth twinkling in his sky-blue eyes nonetheless.

Eep! How had Kol caught up so fast? Reisa could practically feel his breath on her heels. She had to act fast, throw him off somehow... No way was she losing this race just yet! Kol was right, though, about sugar. It would give her a quick surge of energy, but she'd just end up crashing. No matter, her legs were beginning to tire from the length of the run anyway, and adrenaline from the male catching up was giving her a natural rush. "Think fast!" Reis called around the cotton candy, tossed it back over he shoulder at him, and ran like the devil himself was on her tail.

)) Kol barely had time to process Reisa's words when Boof! Either her aim was excellent, or Kol had a hitherto undiscovered talent of attracting food with unusual body parts. Not only did he have some potato salad for later still stuck to his lower legs and paws, he now had a face full of fluffy spun sugar.
Naturally said faceful of sugar caused Kol to falter, almost trip and stumble. Why, it was perfectly forgivable for him to lose that epic lead, given the cirumstances! By the time Kol managed to shake the candy away from his eyes (he appeared to have acquired a pink "bread"), Reisa was quite far ahead. Almost, he noticed with a jolt, to the city.

There it was. The city was in view. Just a little more...
YES! Her paws hit the roads of the city, and she couldn't help but let out an excited squeal. Quickly the vixen headed for the familiar alleys her and her sisters had grown up around. The male behind her would be so lost... or maybe he wouldn't. It wasn't until just then that Reisa realized her 'poof' strategy might not work. After all, Kol was bound to be good at tracking.
((XD Luxy forgot just where they're racing to! It ends at 100, right? >.<))

)) Kol silently groaned as he watched Ree's paws hit the concrete-paved paths of the city, her cream-colored tail whipped out of sight down one of the narrow paths between the tall buildings know as "alleys".
Kol was a fairly competent tracker. Not the best, but better than most. Of course that was in a forest, at a slower pace. A strange city, full of bizarre smells, going at a run? He'd better put the pedal to the medal, it would be best if he could keep an eye on at least some part of the vixen.((XD Well it could be a park in the city, or just a building Reisa might be familiar with, or they could do a total loop and head back the way they came. As long as Reisa is leading, she decides where to go. If Kol's number surpasses hers before she reaches 100 then he's caught up and the race is over.))

The streets were busy, so much more busy than the outskirts and the park they tore through. Reisa was in her element, now! "Last one to the city square is a rotten egg!" She called over her shoulder. The Square was smack in the middle of the city, a mini-park of sorts with a big fountain in the center of it and a circle road around it. Cars weren't allowed on this road, just walkers and humans on two-wheel things, so as long as they didn't follow any car-roads there would be no danger at all.
As long as she led Kol down her ally ways there would be no competition at all. Reisa darted into the nearest ally, and as luck had it there was a dumpster and a fence at the end. With a cute little yip! she bounced off the metal box and over the fence with ease and grace. "Beat that, Wild Boy!"
