I've been gaming since I was around 4 or 5 when I played Super Mario Bros., but what really got me hooked was Pokemon. My parents couldn't get my face away from the Game Boy, even at a restaurant. rofl After pokemon, I played Yugioh games, then moved to Starcraft, then to MMORPGs. Basically, I test MMORPG games now, but I still play my one and only favorite: Pokemon. >w< To me, gaming is a lifestyle, and video games are art! Some of it is good, some of it sucks. But, that's only in the perspective of the human mind.

Hard to say. I think the reasons have changed over the years. Many times it was for the challenge; I love seeing "what comes next" and I wana keep trying until I get to it. If it's challenging, I just keep at it. I guess that's why some Atari games never caught on, though I kept playing them in the early years. I never cared about points, ya know? With early games, it's all about seeing how high you can get the points. The NES changed that and allowed me to progress through levels, and I'd be seeing different stuff in each one. I loved seeing what was next!
After I found RPGs, things changed a little. I already liked reading, and now reading was sort of a part of playing games, too. You play through the story. It was amazing to me, back then! From then on out I tried to find as many as I could, but that changed the reason I played...I think it was more of an escape, at that point. I loved RPGs, but when they were over, I would be sad. It's like saying goodbye to friends, but none of them are real, and I can make them do the exact same things by playing again. Not sure if that's healthy or not. Kinda why I don't play as much now. It's not worth getting depressed over a story. But hell, I haven't stopped reading, and books to the same thing, really.
Nowadays...I'm not sure why I'm a gamer. Another person on this thread said "force of habit" and I think that's kinda what it is. I don't play nearly as much as I used to since I got married 'n such. I don't have as much need for an escape, and some of the old challenges are just...too challenging. On the other hand, I can still (somehow) get into SHMUPs, which are hard as hell. Not sure what I'm looking for in a game, anymore! I guess it's there when the mood strikes me.
Overall, I'm a gamer because I love controling a character and making them look cool in thier own world. Sometimes it's not about story or challenge; sometimes it's just about an interactive toy, like playing through Meta Knightmare mode on "Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland", just so I can play around with Meta Knight. I think that's one aspect that'll always be there. I'm a gamer 'cause I like toys, and games often fall under that category.

It's the sheer enjoyment you get from it. And admit it, it's not as stupid as watching shows from TV. Reality Shows? Real Housewives? ******** that s**t, I'm sticking with Mario.

I think I am a gamer simply because I love video games. I like play and watching others plays. If the graphics and storyline is good, then I am in.
My first game system was the first Nintendo ever released and the game was Super Mario. Though I was unaware, I slowly became unaware of the fact I enjoyed my time spent on video games. Later on in years, I became addicted to Gameboy Color, Playstation and PC Games. Then, I took a break and only became an advisor for my brother whenever he played a game. It was only recently I started to get hook to games again in a serious manner. Of course I played halo but I was always a d**k about it. Now I try exploring various types of games but so far, I am addicted to dramallama Dragon Age.

Basically my entire family is made up of gamers. I played my first game when I was about 2 years old. My mom has a picture somewhere of me sitting in my dad's lap playing MK. My mom is also a gamer but she sticks to Super mario and nintendo games.
I grew up on games and I just love them. Gives me something to do and relaxes me. I couldn't imagine my life without games. heart

I became a gamer because my father introduced us to games, and my family grew up playing them. I continue playing because I enjoy being someone I am not in RL.
As on MMORPG's I tend to be the person I want to be, but have trouble being in real life.
Over half of my seven member family are gamers, so I was going to be playing them either way really. =]
