Where did he get that scar? Probably from murdering his last victim's brains out! Normally the knowledge that she was a part of a crime syndicate made her relatively sure she wouldn't be mugged or stolen from, but ax murderers didn't care about things like rank or organization; They were crazy people. Crazier than the standard Rocket fare! She jumped when he spoke up and stared at him like a deer in the headlights, the length of silence between when he asked her a question and when she answered was verging on uncomfortable. "N-no..."

How did one go about asking a person if they intended to murder them?

For some reason, the fact that she had a giant metal dinosaur guarding her completely escaped her mind. Ax murderers were crazy, yes, but they were also clever. He'd probably give her brain a good dividing before Maxwell could even react. NO. NOT HER BRAIN! The corners of her mouth dropped, displeased that her brain, her favorite organ, was in danger.

Elsewhere, the Pidgeot had found something. It looked like a cave, and was at least something for the humans to take shelter in. The giant bird let out a cry and banked around, heading back to the pair.

What the?... Aulus' expression darkened and he got to his feet, folding his arms across his chest. "What's got into you?" he demanded, only just resisting the urge to grab his stave; if he threatened her in any way he had no doubt that her pokemon would attack, and then he'd be in trouble. "You started acting odd the moment you sent that pidgeot off," he went on in a low growl, "so I want you to tell me why."

What was she up to? There were so many possibilities, but no facts, not even any hints as to what she wanted. This was unsettling. Really unsettling. If she thought he was an easy target... She didn't look like she thought he was an easy target. Maybe she was the decoy? That would make sense with the pidgeot gone to fetch reinforcements thing; maybe she'd been forced into this and the enormity of it all was starting to make her crack.

"Waaah!" Nyx flailed her arms and legs wildly and fell off of the bench. The rather large, rather protective Aggron sat up and started to rumble in warning. The human male had gotten threatening. "Oh Arceus!" Nyx threw her arms over her head, trying to protect her valuable brain. "Don't murder me with an ax!" If Miss Nadja could see her now... she'd be demoted forever just out of shame.

Langley landed in time to see quite a sight. He didn't seem alarmed, Nyx was prone to do crazy things... He just tilted his head and watched, waiting for someone to notice that he was back.

"...Um. What?" Aulus blinked a couple of times, looking down at Emma like the crazy person she was. "You're crazy," he said after a moment. "What suddenly makes you think I'll kill you with an axe that I don't even have? Most people who decide I'm a murderer do so when they first see me, not several minutes into the conversation; did your medication just wear off or something?"

On the downside, he was stuck in the mountains with a woman who was as daft as the brush her head resembled. On the upside, she probably wasn't plotting anything against him if she was acting this way. It was still a possibility, and he didn't plan to totally let his guard down, but all her flailing and panic did make him feel a good deal more relaxed about the situation.

Murder her with an axe indeed; what a nutcase.

"Ahhhh..." Nyx scrambled to her feet and pointed at Aulus. "But what if I'm not crazy! Granted, I don't see an ax on you, but, what if you're hiding it!" No... she was definitely crazy. "How do I know you're not just pretending to be a perfectly normal guy in the mountains to get close to me so you can steal my brain!" That was obviously what he'd want, right? "Or! OR what if! ... Or what if I just have an over active... imagination..." Ax murderers wouldn't keep carrying on conversations after being confronted with their victim's realization of what they were. They just went on a rampage.

Nyx certainly felt silly. It was the mountain's fault; That, and she hadn't eaten anything substantial all day. She cleared her throat and tried to pretend that her little outburst hadn't happened. "Oh look! Langley is back!" The Pidgeot flapped his wings and turned himself around to face the way he'd came.

Wow. Well, she certainly beat him to the title of 'Most Paranoid Person Ever' by a long shot. Steal her brain? Really? At least she seemed to have calmed down now. "So he is," Aulus replied with a sigh, picking up his staff and nodding to Tortie. "If it makes you feel any better," he went on, "I've no interest at all in your brain, or any other part of your body for that matter. Or your pokemon's body parts. Or your research equipment. The only thing I'm interested in tonight is not freezing my balls off, not falling off a cliff, and not getting crushed by a rampaging Onyx or whatever... A decent meal would be good too, but I can't see that happening."

Unless Mophead had a field kitchen among her kit. Fried eggs, hash browns, tomatoes... She hadn't planned to be here for the night either, so all of that was seriously unlikely. Damn. What did he have left in his pockets? Not all that much, but maybe if she at least had something they could swap bits or whatever. Usually he wouldn't contemplate doing anything so civilized as swap and share, but his stomach was currently in the process of beating his anti-social nature into submission; it wasn't actually growling yet, but it was definitely thinking about it.

"No, probably not. All I have is some jerky and trail mix..." It was always a good idea to take some sort of food when making a trek into the wilderness. "But at least it seems like Langley found something." The researcher pointed to the bird who was flying in a circle over the human's heads, waiting for them to follow.

Langley hadn't found much of a cave, it was more of a deep indentation in the side of a large rock wall than an actual cave, but it would provide more shelter than sitting on the bench all night would.

"Ahh..." The woman returned her pidgeot to his pokeball. "Don't suppose you have any fire wood, do you?"

Well, sounded like it was going to be a hungry night all around; all he had was an apple and a packet of crisps. Maybe he'd let Tortie go off and hunt at least; just because he was looking at a lean night didn't mean she should have to. At least he had a big enough bottle of water so they wouldn't be thirsty as well...

So that was the shelter, hu? Aulus inspected it for a few moments before giving a heavy sigh; to say it wasn't much was the understatement of the year... Well, probably the week at any rate, and he supposed it was better than nothing. "Firewood?" Aulus echoed with an incredulous snort. "If you think you're chopping up my staff to keep you warm you can think again, sweetheart. Cuddle up to a pokemon or something... One of the warm ones." Not the hulking steel type; that wouldn't exactly keep her toasty.

Maxwell dug her claws into the earth in front of their impromptu shelter and cleared away a wide, shallow pit, exposing the softer dirt under the dried out crust; The armor plated triceratops rumbled softly, walked a circle around inside of the pit, and flopped down with a huff. She had her bed for the night.

"It was a joke." Nyx sighed and shook her head; Of course he wouldn't have any firewood on him, that was silly. He did have a good idea though, and luckily, she owned a fire type or two. The woman pulled out yet another pokeball and released the creature inside.

The light pooled and formed a very fluffy and very excited Flareon. "Flaaa!" It pranced it place, lowered its body until its bottom was in the air, and waved the mass of fur that was its tail back and forth.

He couldn't help smiling at the Aggron's preparations for sleep; at least somebody would be comfortable tonight. As Mophead let out another pokemon, Aulus' expression morphed into one of mild surprise; she seemed to have quite a team with her... Daww, look at that butt wiggle. Ack! No! Strange (although not seemingly dangerous) woman nearby, no cooing over adorable pokemon. Clearing his throat and trying to find a scowl, Aulus sat down in the dirt and draped an arm around Tortie as she stalked over to join him.

"Well, it wasn't a very funny joke," he said eventually, "but while humour and sanity might not be your string suits, you've a collection of nice looking pokemon." He'd already admitted to being a photographer so he was allowed to be seen to appreciate them, just not to squee over them. Tough guy. Remember to be the tough guy.

Nyx frowned, Aulus wasn't a very friendly person... it was like dealing with a slightly less obtuse Seth. But if she could handle Seth, she could handle that man; Nyx was ridiculously patient. "Ah. Yes. Thank you. I've more... But we don't have much room here." Plus, he didn't need to see all of her pokemon; Some of them were memorable, and she might have to steal from this person one day, or encounter him when she was trying to con someone else. The last thing she needed was for him recognizing her pokemon if she was in disguise. The scientist grunted and sat on the ground. It wouldn't be a comfortable night, but it was better than breaking a leg.

The Flareon finished one final bum-wag and took off hopping and running in circles around his human, lapping a few times before bounding over to Aulus, sniffing curiously at him and then flopping over onto his back for belly rubs. "Flaaa." He coo'd, trying his damnedest to be adorable.

"... That's Bunsen."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 31, 2011 7:47 am

"Well he's certainly very friendly," Aulus said slowly, giving in to the cuteness and scratching the fire type's belly. "I should probably try to get hold of a fire type," he added, as much to himself as to Mophead, "useful things... You know this region well? What's a good place to go looking for wild ones?" Hell, might as well get something useful out of her and improve an otherwise pretty crappy situation. He couldn't believe how idealistic he'd been until she'd sauntered up. A night in the mountains with very little food and no real shelter. No amount of pretty views could make that pleasant, and he didn't even have solitude anymore. Bah. Life hated him.

The desert was a good place to find fire types, but Nyx certainly wouldn't suggest going searching around it- what if he ran into HQ? Well, the base wouldn't actually be in any danger, but still. "There might be a few here in the mountains, and if you can find transportation, there is a volcano not too far from Kodo." Nyx said as she rummaged through her pack, searching for her trail mix.

Bunsen coo'd happily at the belly scratches. They were his favorite. The fire wiggled from side to side, and then began to kick his leg. At this rate, Aulus would have two pokemon to cuddle up to- Bunsen's eyes were already starting to droop, made heavier by the relaxing scratching.

"Oh!" The woman grinned, "I didn't even realize I'd packed that!" What that thing had been was obvious, as she was now holding it in the air. A chocolate bar. "Would you like some?" Nyx yawned and broke off half of the sweet for herself. It was chocolate time, and then bed time.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 04, 2011 6:30 am

He wasn't usually the sort to take sweets from strangers, but with the prospect of a long night ahead he decided to make an exception. "Thanks," Aulus accepted the chocolate and bit into it, pondering whether or not to share the little food he had in return. It was just one packet of crisps, which wouldn't go far towards feeding even one person but she'd shared her chocolate without hesitation... He'd save them for breakfast, and decide whether or not to share when the time came.

Finishing off his chocolate and (much to Tortie's disgust) still stroking Bunsen with his free hand Aulus sighed softly, looking up at the darkening sky. "Might as well try to get some sleep I guess," he said after a moment. "Don't think I've gone to bed this early since my age was in double figures, but the sooner we sleep, sooner we can wake up and get out of here." As soon as it got light he was out of here... though he'd probably be stuck walking down the mountain with Mophead too. At least she had nice pokemon.

"You're right." Nyx yawned, confirming that sleep was a good idea. She didn't tend to go to bed early on any night, preferring to stay up until ungodly hours to work in the labs, but there was no work to be done, and trekking through the mountains all day had tired her little body out. "Bunsen, sleep time." She held her arms out, waiting for her fire-type pillow.

The Flareon rolled over, finished having his belly scratched now that his master wanted to cuddle, and trotted over to 'Emma'. "Goodnight..." Bunsen laid down next to his trainer and she settled down with her head nestled in his mane.
