"Fine." He said and moved into shallower waters, in case he couldn't float. He watched Nyx as she leaned back, smiling just a little at the view. He tried to wash the smile off his face when she stood up, but instead, his smile only grew wider. Her hair was straight. It was actually longer than he thought it was.
"If I drown, I'm going to some how come back and haunt you." Even though it was scientifically impossible for ghosts to exist. He took a breath and turned, his back to Nyx and slowly leaned back, trying his best to do what she said. Though his first attempt didn't go so well. He didn't straighten his back and ended up sinking to the bottom. He was glad he moved to shallower waters and was able to stand up much quicker.

"I should hope you wouldn't drown, you can touch the bottom." Nyx rolled her eyes and smiled, amused at the idea of Mau coming back as a ghost pokemon and haunting her, instead of a traditional ghost.
Nyx watched him lean back and promptly sink, and resisted the urge to chuckle at him. She waded through the water over to Mau as he stood up. "Close... Here. Try again." Nyx held out her arms under the water; It was hard to float when you couldn't figure out exactly what position to get into. Being held up while you got a feel for it was much easier, so that was what she was going to do. "I'll hold you."
Obviously Nyx hadn't exactly realized what she was saying just yet.

Logically, it was true that she would be able to hold him up while under water. But chivalry wanted him to decline the offer. Was this one of those sink or swim moments? Literally?
"Alright." He smiled faintly, though actually he might be more nervous now. He failed at FLOATING and now Nyx was going to hold him up. He let out a slow, heavy breath before closing his eyes and taking another deep breath, starting to lean back again. There was the water against his back, and there were Nyx's hands. So far so good.
Legs. Had to move... legs. He slowly kicked his legs out until he was flat on his back. His kicking drifted him just a little closer to Nyx. He half opened his eyes, and quickly shut them again. This was more relaxing. Eyes closed, yeah. That's right.

"Good..." Nyx couldn't help but smile; Teaching Mau to float was entertaining. It wasn't like in the labs, where she was focused on her work, professional, and competing with the other scientists. In the pool they were just two people who were... fond... of each other... Drat. Yes, she had to admit it. She was fond of Mau. Nyx sneered briefly at the thought that had finally broken out from the back of her mind and planted itself firmly in the conscious. Luckily Mau had his eyes closed.
"..Um..." She was terrible with getting distracted. "Keep your back arched, so your midsection is breaking the water... Oh. And tilt your head back some, your ears should be submerged." Nyx held her hands at Mau's lower back, for now.

There was just a hint of apprehension that rippled through Mau's body. She would be in the perfect position to pull Mau under water, and he'd probably drown. And Nyx could get away with it ... no, no she couldn't. She wouldn't be able to come up with a lie. Mau ever so slightly smiled, doing as he was told. His ears under the water, head tilted back, his back just slightly arched, his abs and some of his chest above the surface of the water. He relaxed, trying to get used to the sound and feeling of water in his ears.

Nyx slowly lowered her hands away from Mau slowly and stepped back. She grinned and waited for him to realize that she wasn't holding him up any more, not that it would take long. The thought of drowning Mau never crossed her mind, in fact, as she stood there watching him float, something completely different popped into her head. The volcano. Nearly plummeting to her death had been the final tipping point, leading to her willingness to see Mau again, after all.
"You missed the last mission..." Nyx commented, even though Mau's ears were under the water. She was prepared to repeat herself when he was able to hear again.

"♥☻♣♠☺"
"I have no idea what you just said." He responded, slowly opening his eyes. Nyx had moved away. He realized he was floating by himself now. Interesting. Ok, time to figure out how to stand up... Might as well do it the awkward way. He took a breath and moved, letting himself sink slightly before his feet hit the bottom and he stood up. He shook his head a little, trying to drain the water from his ears.
"What was that?"

"You, uh... you missed the last mission..." Nyx sank into the water slightly, letting her pink mess of locks fan out around her head. She hadn't thought too much about that day, since it happened; She stayed busy working, training, avoiding... A frown crossed Nyx's face briefly before she pushed it away with a small smile. "Did you see the egg?"

"I know." He responded. He had chosen not to go, instead favoring to work in the labs. He had work, and it wasn't going to get done if he was injured and Allen was left in charge of it. Nyx didn't need to know exactly why he wasn't there nor what he was working on, and left it at that. "Egg?" He asked curiously. There were lots of eggs recently. He'd even been handed one. But that wasn't what she was talking about. He thought back. There were whispers of something.
"I can't say I did. Was it from the last mission?"

"Mm... Yeah. When we went to capture the Ho-Oh in the volcano, we found its egg." Nyx was particularly proud that they'd brought the egg back, especially since she'd been the one to suggest sending some pokemon into the volcano after it. "I..." She scratched her head, finding it harder to talk about the events of that day; At least no one had told him already. "There were a lot of charizard in the volcano."

Ok, it was kind of strange for Nyx to be bringing this up out of the blue like this. "So... you have a new... ho-oh?" he asked softly. "... Volcanoes... usually have an abundance of fire types." He was slightly concerned though, about why she was bringing up the last raid now. "...something exciting happen?"

"Sort of... Yes..." Nyx hadn't made a big deal of it before, or even at the volcano, but it felt important to share. Just get it out there. Nyx took a deep breath. "I almost fell into the volcano. Do a doggy paddle!" There! It was out, and the subject was successfully changed, according to her. She stared wide eyed at Mau and waited for him to start swimming like a Growlithe.

If it hadn't been for what preceded the swimming order, Mau would have laughed at her. "You almost what?" He took a half step closer to Nyx, a little worried. "How did that happen?"

That wasn't a doggy paddle. That wasn't even anything remotely like swimming. But... she did bring this on herself. She brought it up. Nyx rubbed her upper arm in a sheepish gesture. "Air battle... Langley and I were fighting with one of the Charizard... One of the grunts lost control of her pokemon, crashed into us... I got knocked off."
At least up until that point, she and her pokemon had been pretty bad-a**... It almost made up for nearly toasting her marshmallow.

Mau sort of stared at her for a moment as she told him about what happened. He was... kind of worried about her, even though obviously she was fine. "I... Well... It's... It's a good thing you're so tough." His face was still painted with worry as he tried to smile at her. "I'm glad you're ok." What was he saying? He was really worried. He closed the distance between them and wrapped his arms around her in a hug.
