Foramen shrugged. He didn't really understand how senshi got awakened, so he wasn't expecting to make any sense of how Negaverse agents were awakened. Or corrupted, if it followed that it was the same procedure used on senshi.

"The senshi have their starseeds missing," he noted. Foramen fought off the cold shiver that walked down his spine. "But the normal Negaverse agents don't seem to have that problem. And there's surely more to it than just removing the starseed, or they'd just die like all the civilians that have fallen victim to the Negaverse."

Heebie-jeebies was one way to put it. Foramen was just hoping that he never found out firsthand how a senshi was corrupted.

"Anyway," Foramen briskly changed the subject, away from such morbid concepts, "Lyra's given us input on two Captains. Scheelite and Zinkenite - oh, I met him. The tiny, angry one."

Foramen was one to talk.

Europa shrugged. She likewise had no desire to get on the first-hand side of the corrupted senshi experience. "How do you think they justify it to themselves?" she asked after a moment's hesitation and reflection. "They kill hundreds of people without hesitation but say they're doing it for the good of the planet." She didn't have any exact figures on how high the terrorist activity in Destiny City's death toll had risen, but she was sure it was astoundingly high.

She pulled up the forms from Lyra on her own form and looked them over. "I'm not sure that Zinkenite is ringing any bells unless... she might mean? The one from the Halloween party? He went weird and vanished around the same time as the crystal, he was at the cake--"

She trailed off. She held up a hand. "Hold that thought." said Europa. She stared at the description on her phone. She typed for a bit. "Yeah," she said. "I think Zinkenite might have the red crystal from the Halloween party."

She stared at the computer screen, and then she nodded and turned her attention to the other form. "Oh, I've fought Scheelite. In Chinatown, with Scylla and Castor and Taranis and Lyra. Did you know Castor is teaching senshi boot camp? Oh, I wish we'd built in some kind of bulletin or messaging system into this, but I don't know jack about code..."

"Do you think we could add that in the next update?"

Foramen shrugged. "Shades of grey, I guess. I bet some of them don't believe in 'good' or 'evil' at all. And those that do seem to see themselves as the good ones, and us as the evil alien invaders."

Exactly what kind of invasion the senshi were doing, apart from living peacefully and protecting normal humans, was beyond Foramen.

He shook his head at the mention of the Halloween party. "Wasn't there for that." One eyebrow quirked in Europa's direction, a silent prompt for more information on the party and this crystal.

"I can say that Zinkenite did nothing unusual when I met him recently. A lot of talk - bet he thinks he's oh so clever and above everyone else - but a crappy fighter. He had to pull a smoke bomb just to get away from me, and god knows I'm no prize in the fighting department either."

Senshi training camp... Might have been interesting. Except it was being run by Castor. Foramen pulled a face. Hopefully Castor was taking it seriously, if he'd gone to trouble of arranging something like that, not just using it to flirt with the ladies.

"We can ask Taranis," Foramen said in response to the bulletin idea. "He's the one who convinced the cats to let us do this in the first place. I can take care of the coding, but we need to be sure the phones can handle it." Or that the cats' supercomputer didn't mistake it for a virus and wipe it straight back off.

Europa picked up on the prompt for more information well enough. "The Halloween Masquerade," she explained. "I guess... you didn't go? It was a disaster. A setup. There was a cake youma, and then the crystal got tossed in on top of that. You know about the rainbow crystals, right?" she asked him, quirking an eyebrow. That eyebrow said she was going to explain anyway. "I asked Chibimoon about them a few months ago, she said they combine to form the Silver Crystal, and that's what Sailor Moon uses to find the Moon Princess."

This was almost verbatim from that conversation. She'd spent hours going over it in her head. Anticipating the likely next question, she waved her hand demonstratively. "I know. Sailor Moon is the princess, but she has to find the princess. It's complicated. I asked that, too." And Chibimoon was the closest thing they had right now to a valid Sailor Moon, so Europa was determined to champion the small princess. If the Moon Kingdom was a democracy, Europa would be the the first one to nominate Small Lady Serenity for Grand Poobah.

"It'd be really useful to be able to send out bulletins from this system, anyway," she said. "I can only text senshi whose numbers I have, and that's hardly all of them, but everyone's linked to the cats' computer..."

She trailed off and rocked back and forth in her chair for a bit, deep in thought. She hadn't properly fought Zinkenite, but a lot of negaversers seemed pretty keen on delivering diatribes about why their way was the right way. "Have you seen The Incredibles?" she asked. "Maybe the right way to take down a Negaverse officer is to get them monologuing!"

Foramen shook his head. Halloween Masquerade didn't ring a bell. Though whether he attended any kind of social gathering was hit or miss - sometimes he wanted to be around others, even if he didn't much like them, and then sometimes the thought made him ill.

"I've heard a few rumours," he said about the Rainbow Crystals. Mostly concerns in senshi meetings about finding them and getting them before the Negaverse could. "What exactly would the Negaverse do with crystals designed to find the Moon Princess? Find her first and kill her? Or do they do something different in corrupted hands?"

Chibimoon was another subject brought up in senshi meetings, usually to a lot of arguing back and forth. He'd seen her at the meeting where he'd met Taranis and Europa (the phone-database group being the only productive thing to come from that meeting, in Foramen's opinion). And she'd been there for the Elysion disaster. So far Foramen didn't have a high opinion of the girl. She seemed less competent than many of the other senshi, but because of her blood they should follow her? Not to mention, she'd argued against that fact herself, which only made her followers even more devoted.

Still, if the pink girl had information like this, then maybe Foramen shouldn't be so quick to write her off. She was the granddaughter of the Queen Serenity he'd met, after all. Blood couldn't run weak that quickly, could it? Maybe there was something of the Queen there that he just hadn't seen in the meetings.

He shrugged. "Maybe I'll take the time to chat with Chibimoon at some point."

Europa didn't have to convince Foramen about the usefulness of a bulletin system on the phones. He was all for it. As long as Castor couldn't use it for booty calls. "I'll script it up," he agreed. "Have Taranis warn the cats so it doesn't end up blocked."

Foramen hadn't seen the movie in question, but the idea was rather apparently. Let the Negas talk, attack while they waxed on about their plans or whatnot. "Some of them seem fond of monologuing," he said, shrugging. "Some of them just go straight on the offensive. And some of them, well, if they wasted time monologuing, I'd be running away." He mostly meant Tanz on that last one.

"I have no idea said Europa, shrugging. If she knew what the Negaverse was doing, like, concretely, and not just from piecemeal guessing, then she'd be out there trying to foil their nefarious devices and not sitting here doing data entry. "Talking to Chibimoon would be good, though - she comes from the future?"

Europa had been so excited to ask the princess questions that she'd stuck to a really careful set of them. But she was itching to get the pink-haired monarch back in the hotseat and pick her brain about trivia and day to day life in a future that, now, might never be. (At any rate, it wouldn't exist in the form Chibimoon remembered it. Usagi Tsukino was dead in this universe.)

"The best way I've found to explain Chibimoon is that she's like Spock in the new Star Trek movie," said Europa, entering a fairly straightforward description into the computer. "The Leonard Nimoy one, not the Zachary Quinto one?" She raised an eyebrow, as if to ask Foramen if he'd seen it. "The survivor from a timeline that doesn't exist anymore."

Foramen raised an eyebrow. He had seen the movie that Europa was referring to (being a bit of a secret computer nerd and all), so he got the reference. The logistics of it still confused the hell out of him - fair enough to have wormholes in a sci-fi movie. But in real life? Or maybe there was a senshi of wormholes (Foramen briefly wondered if his rifts could or would power up into affecting time) or a senshi of time itself. That might explain how a senshi princess managed to be sent back.

... Though she clearly hadn't 'fixed' anything if her parents were now dead.

"I guess she's just lucky to be something along the lines of Star Trek time travel, and not Back To The Future," Foramen muttered. Or else she would have disappeared by now, as someone who would no longer be born.

He shot Europa a wry grimace of a smile. "Our whole lives sound like some bad sci-fi movie now, don't they? We never would have believed any of this stuff a few years ago."

Tallulah had never even waited at the mailbox for a Hogwarts letter on her eleventh birthday. As a child, she'd suffered through a few games of pretty pretty princess before turning all her stuffed animals into the cast of General Hospital, or sometimes the UN Security Council. (All rise before President Moose!) While she had an interest in science fiction and fantasy movies, it had hardly ever crept into her imaginings as a child. "If you'd told me about all this before it started, yeah. I'd have called bullshit," she said, swiveling uncomfortably in her chair.

It was quiet. They'd arrived at the inevitable point of senshi navel contemplation. Europa drummed her fingers on the desk. "But we're here and now and it's happening here and now," she said finally. "And there's a war in Destiny City that the police and the politicians don't even know about."

She chewed her lip resolutely and thumbed through another message on her phone, tapped it into the computer. Europa was working through a thought, one she wasn't sure she liked. "We're protecting people who won't ever know our names, won't ever know to thank us--"

Of course, some civilians knew. You could as sure as bet that anyone who'd directly interacted with a senshi had a fair idea of it. Tate probably knew what was going on, and Europa's father, and maybe some others. "Why hasn't anyone gone public with this?" she asked.

"Gone public?" Foramen repeated, his voice hitting his higher range in his surprise. "Aren't we public enough? We're branded as terrorists, we're all over Youtube because everyone with a mobile phone thinks they're the next Spielburg, and at least one senshi already has an arrest warrant out just for them."

He could sort of see what Europa meant. They could have given their side of the story. Tried to fight the bad press. But that horse had already left the stable. "Nothing we said at this point would be taken seriously. Just the ramblings of terrorists trying to place blame elsewhere. And even if we could make people believe us, that doesn't stop them being scared. Worst case scenario? We'd be the new witch-hunt. Round us up, cart us off, imprisoned for being dangerous, tests to figure out what we really are... Even the best case scenario is that the police would hunt the Negaverse as well as hunting us."

It was too bad it wasn't still just one giant secret. But that was hard in such a technologically advanced age. Internet, mobile phones... Information was out and public in minutes.

And anyway, bad press was the last of their concerns. The Negaverse was still the most dangerous thing out there, so Foramen drew Europa's attention back to the database entries.

They continued on for almost another hour, until they reached the last of the new submissions. Foramen stretched after reading out the last entry, every vertebrae of his spine cracking. As comfy as the meeting room chairs were, he'd still been sitting in one for far too long.

"I think that's us done for the day. Night," he corrected himself. He made for the door, ready to leave. Something made him pause. Perhaps it was the rise in higher level opponents, along with the knowledge that very few senshi knew or cared for Foramen. Perhaps it was time to start cultivating allies... and his fellow database managers seemed very inoffensive, as far as senshi went. "We should do this again sometime. After some more submissions have built up."

Smiling with satisfaction, Europa shut the laptop with a quiet click and slipped it back into her bag. She stifled a yawn as she got to her feet. (Until we meet again, rolly chair!) "Yeah, this was fun," she agreed. Certainly beat fighting trash youma until the wee hours of the morning, or else lying awake trying not to go back to that twisted dream world.

"Hopefully we'll be able to use this place again," she said, glancing around the conference room. It had served them well, but with an office park in foreclosure like this there was always the rare chance someone might snap it up dirt cheap. But that was unlikely - the real estate bubble in Destiny City hadn't so much popped as become a black hole. "If not, I'll find someplace else."

She shrugged, shouldering her computer bag, and followed the shorter scout out the door.

"And maybe we should patrol together sometime?" she suggested, right as they hit the parking lot. Europa sized up the open expanse of pavement and decided it was best to move sometime in the next few minutes. "Call me. Or I'll call you. Okay? See you around, Sailor Foramen!"

And then, with a weary smile and a swoosh of glossy, dark hair, she was gone.
