Tony watched the young man that was currently mourning the apparent death of his motorcycle. Tony pitied him, but felt helpless to do anything to make it better. What could he do? He knew nothing of motorcycle repairs, and could not afford to buy him a new one. Pay for the repairs? Certainly, he could try. But would that really make it better in the moment?
He was still in misery. And promises for the future would not relieve the pain of the present.
Then Tony had to wonder why he was treating this moment like someone, not something, had been hurt or killed.
"I'll gladly pay for anything you need, honest. It was partly my fault the bike was in danger, after all," he nodded his head sincerely. He searched his pockets and pulled his business card, a bit rumpled, from one. "Here, call me when you find out what you need to do for it, alright? I'll be find, honestly, I'm used to the walk. But ah. Honestly, don't forgot to call about the repairs, alright? I'll do what I can."

Hmm? What was this? Dietrich took the card being offered to him and looked it over, flattening it a little so he could read it better. Oh! A phone number, of course! He smiled and shook his head a little. "Alright, alright. If you insist. Can I call if I wanna just hang out, too? Or strictly for business?" He asked with a grin, waving the card a little before tucking it into his book bag. For a moment Dietrich was actually curious what would happen if he didn't call Tony about the repairs. Would he get angry? How would he even find out? It'd have to be if they hung out after the repairs were finished. They shouldn't be too bad! It wasn't as if the bike was out of commission, it would probably still run, but it was hardly safe to ride on a damaged bike. Hell, Dietrich was hoping he could fix it himself! He would try it right this second if it weren't for the fact that the middle of the street was not the right place to try and fix one's damaged vehicle.
"Hmmm..hey! I should give you my number too. Just in case, y'know?" Dietrich dug around in his bag for a sheet of paper and a pen, finding each and putting the paper on the seat so he could scribble down his name, cell phone number and even landline. What? If his cell was dead he could always just call the landline! It was genius! Or something. The paper was folded and the pen put away, holding it out for Tony with a smile. "See you around, then? Get home safe."

Tony looked a bit surprised.
"Well, if you could figure out a justifiable reason to willingly hang out with a librarian, I guess you could call me for that," he said, with a small smirk. He was a little self deprecating a lot of the time, a lot so a little of the time. But he wore a soft expression that indicated he wouldn't mind a call every now and then, for reasons other than late fines or lost books.
Or even broken motorcycles.
"Oh, sure," Tony said, waiting patiently while Dietrich pulled the paper and pen out of his bag. It took a little bit, and he did end up looking fairly awkward, waiting quietly for the few moments it took for the numbers to get scribbled down and then offered to him.
He smiled and took the paper, putting it neatly in his pocket.
"Yes, of course. You too!" He said, with a smile and a nod. He waited for a moment, to make sure the bike didn't explode or something as Dietrich walked off, then turned to start his own way home, leaning heavier on his cane than he had been recently.

Dietrich was kind of thrown off by how surprised Tony was by his question. Did people not hang out with him often? Aw, man! That was just lame! Tony seemed like a nice enough guy; he ran to Dietrich's aid when he didn't even know his name! And he was offering to pay for repairs to his bike when he really didn't have to. This was a really good guy in Dietrich's books. Why wouldn't anyone hang out with Tony? He hoped that wasn't what that look meant. "I can think of a few good reasons. We'll definitely hang out sometime." He told the man with a new grin, even adding in a thumb's up. Yes, they'd definitely be hanging out as much as Dietrich could manage.
He was glad Tony kept his number, having wondered if maybe it would've been easier to just whip out their cell phones and exchange that way, but maybe it was safer not to assume such things. Not everyone had a cell phone even in this day and age! Some people had no need or desire for one...as odd as that may sound. He nodded to Tony as he wished him well, kicking up the kickstand of his bike. "Later, man!" He called as he started to walk away with the bike, turning it awkwardly to get it away from the middle of the street. This was going to be a fun walk home...
