"Ah, that's good I suppose."
He nodded his head slightly and then when he heard the part about the Mandagora draught he smiled. "I have some good adolescent mandrakes ready to be harvested.... I'll gladly give them to you, I could use the pots in any case... I have more than enough to humor you with all the mandagora draught you'd require." He nodded. "Unless you're looking for more mature Mandrakes, but there are at least a dozen of those as well." He nodded his head. "And if they aren't here at home then they are certainly at my home, which is just a hour or so away, I'll just get my niece, a four year old, bless her sweet soul, to send them over... She knows well enough how to." He smiled. "She's smart, don't see how she gets it from her mother, or her father." He then stopped talking again, he'd rather not talk about the students. "Most are very good, there is one trouble maker... I don't see her as too much of a threat though. I just believe she's not used to the social interaction." He crossed his legs after adjusting himself, everything was very boring. "I wonder when this will end, it's very un-romantic." He frowned.

User ImageEuchadessa looked about the room dryly. "Is it supposed to be? I think this is more for the students. After all, many of the professors are married or involved. I don't think there was much thought that partners were to be dropped, swapped and switched tonight."

"Or was there?" She asked playfully. She certainly hadn't thought anything so risqué might take place at a Hogwarts banquet. Of course she had never been on this side of the table before, so to speak. But she knew that she was not looking for anything romantic tonight. It hadn't even occurred to her prior to his comment as though this was more of a date. Granted, her marriage was not picture perfect but she in no way wanted anything besides Christian.

Looking back over the hall again she thought of all she would be doing if she wasn't here. Number one on her list now was inspecting the mandrakes to see if they were to her liking for the draught. There was a certain peace and enjoyment that she got while brewing and creating her potions. Classes might come with their own troubles, but she would still get the same peace from her potion making.

"It IS, valentines day, or at least the celebration of it."
He sighed and then lifted up his cup of what he severely hoped was fire-whiskey. Taking a swig he realized quickly that it was just simple butter beer. He grumbled a little and then sighed. "I'd rather be in my green houses." He moaned a little an agitation. He grumbled and looked around Drowsily. He'd be happier if Florence was smiling, sure there was another beauty but she was a student's mother. He did think Nott was an interesting boy but he wasn't too interested in, if they did end up getting together, suddenly having a teen aged boy that spirited dumped into his hands.

(( By the way, her outfit's kinda like the one on the picture, except for the shoes XD ))

Florence listened to Grey's and Euchadessa's conversation, although still preoccupied the thought of her husband not being by her side today. She sighed heavily and sipped from the goblet of wine on the table by her side. She scratched her forehead, still staring at the white tissue of her dress, at the level of her knees. Suddenly feeling quite selfish and guilty about her attitude, she glanced up, smiling kindly.
"So, what's up?" she questioned the two others, hoping she didn't interrupt anything.

User ImageEuchadessa had finally spotted Nott. He didn't see her but she spotted him at a table with two girls. One of which was Charlotte. Well, Cupid certainly isn't blind. Regardless of whether or not they ended up dating, Dessa hoped that they would remain friends. Having never had a daughter, she liked when Nott had Charlotte around the house last year.

She nodded as Grey voiced his wish. Her eyes flicked up to Florence again, it seemed that everyone at the table would prefer to be somewhere else. "Grey was just saying that his position doesn't reflect his preference. I know the feeling. But perhaps that is the reason for these things. Otherwise the staff might never interact. I imagine most everyone is borderline obsessed with their field. My house elf was quite angry that I left home. She is sure that I can't take care of myself and remember to eat and sleep without her."

She didn't want to admit it, but Dessa knew that it was going to take some time to remember how to care for herself again. Cherry was always showing up with food or insisting that she stop after three days with no sleep. But some potions required long hours or just several attempts. Without Cherry it was scary to imagine how Nott would have been raised as a baby.

"So tell me, Grey, since we are here. Besides the mandrakes, is there anything else particularly interesting in your greenhouses?"

It figured. Professionals like themselves always seemed to be unable to do anything but talk shop. Perhaps if Euchadessa had worked on doing more in society or keeping up with the other shop owners in Hogsmeade, she might have more to talk about. But as a Potions Master she spent all of her days over a cauldron. Or thinking about being over a cauldron. Or what things she could use in her cauldron.

"I have many things within my greenhouses, Alihosty plants, Devil's snare, Bubotuber, plants that I've engineered myself, muggle flowers, magic flowers, deadly things, well hidden of course." He then sighed a little. "A damn shame that a few of the students take no interest in Herbology... Since my first year finding a seedling on a well beaten path on the way to Hagrids I decided that I'd nurse plants.. It was like it was a calling... I don't remember much else but that ever since... In fact that was the only class I scored well in, I always hoarded the potion ingredients claiming that they were once living, feeling creatures of the earth and was put in three weeks of detention for spilling the teachers cauldron and charming it to explode so I could get away." He yawned and covered his mouth with his hands and leaned his head forward. "Sleep after cleaning the plants." He muttered.

Florence listened to Grey's list of plants, smiling softly. She did like Herbology, and he seemed very kind, so there wasn't a real reason for students not to like the subject. When she was still young, she had a huge pot with a sunflower in it. Unfortunately, the plant died a week later. Then, her mother bought her a rose, but Florence broke the vase it was in.
"I used to love plants when I was young.", Florence admitted with a small sigh, a corner of her lips tugging up into a gentle smile, "I used to have a sunflower." she mumbled as she recalled the past.

"Sunflowers are fitting for women like you." He smiled. "Not that I'm hitting on you two but statice would also be a perfect flower." He tilted his head to the both of them smiling. "Because the two of you are beautiful." He smiled at them. "I have many more books of flowers and the names of flowers at the green houses, and whatever I don't have here I have at home.. so if there's anything you need... a flower to show your affections towards your loved ones... I am the person to go to because I'll let you send them without the hassle and payment for the flowers."

Once more, Florence couldn't help but blush at his compliment. She nodded to his words about statice, the sea lavender-like plant. She liked the smell of lavender, how it invaded her office due to the small bags of lavender on her desk to create a better habitat. She listened to Grey with a smile, admiring his intelligence and passion for flora. She knew exactly what passion was, she experienced it and enjoyed it. After all, music was her life, without a doubt. She thought about his offer of sending a flower, and wondered if maybe she could send a flower to Tristan, her husband.
"I'd love to send Tristan a flower.", Florence told Grey with a charming, loving smile, "What do you think I should send him?" she questioned him, her eyes shining with hope.

"I'll just let you look through the books at some other date then." He nodded. "I wouldn't know because it's you expressing your feelings to him correct? If you had me send them it wouldn't convey the same feelings."

Florence nodded enthusiastically, feeling her cheerful mood reappear as she gave Grey a joyful smile.
"Should I pass by one of your greenhouses when possible, then?" she smiled kindly, a pinch of curiosity echoing in her sing-song voice.

User ImageEuchadessa smiled demurely at the compliment. She managed to contain the eyebrow that was aching to raise in speculation. Such flattery always made her suspicious. Which was just as well since Christian never gave her any. He used to when they were young and in school. But that time apart had been very dark for him. That was when his parents had gone missing, probably killed by Death Eaters. He had never been the same.

"Thank you for your offer. That is very generous." Not that she would need to take him up on it. Christian wouldn't appreciate any gesture of that sort. Over the last thirteen years since they married he turned more and more obsessed with his work. These days he rarely came out of his study, sleeping on an old chaise and Cherry bringing his meals in there. He had been indifferent when she had told him of her appointment, joyful even. Which quickly descended to anger when she informed him that she had paid the bartender at the Hogs Head Inn to not serve him if he came in.

That had been the last conversation that they had and Euchadessa certainly hadn't heard, nor did she expect, a Valentine's sentiment from him.

Professor Grey was very handsome and flattering, though she was sure that was not what Nott liked about him. But long ago Dessa had decided that if things did not work out with Christian than she would just be without a man in her life. Her heart had been shut for years now and she was content to leave it that way. Except of course for her son, who was her pride and joy.

Taking another sip of elderflower wine she cast her gaze around the neighboring staff tables. If everyone was to get properly inebriated tonight she might have a chance to learn quite a bit about her colleagues.

He smiled.
"You're welcome Mrs. McNair... and yes, you're welcome near the greenhouses at any time you'd like." He grinned towards Florence, hiding the sparkles in his eyes of a beast looking at his prey.

Florence was now smiling cheerfully, and seemed to be in a better mood.
"Great! Thank you so much." Florence smiled sweetly at him.
