"Well flying will certainly be exciting, I've only ever been once and the rider had to pry my hands off the neckridge," he grinned, "but I enjoyed it, I just wasn't quite used to it yet." He shivered, he liked flying but had never appreciated the dropping sensation, even jumping from high places.
Anyang chattered back at Fescues, ecstatic to have someone listen and agree with her because her bronze was less than accommodating when it came to firelizard gossip.
Isdrayon curled into a little ball on Wykla's lap and hummed his pleasure at the stroking. He was quite loyal to Shedrawn he just never showed it in public because that would be boring, besides he liked this girl she gave good scratchies.
Anyang cheeped in annoyance at her bronze, he was so inconsiderate.

"Flying will be so fun. Kameth can't wait to start." Sympathetically she patted the blue's foreleg. Don't worry we'll get you up as soon as we can. "Well if all the rider had to do was pry your hands off, that aint so bad. I've seen some of those holder kids come in with soiled pants." She huffed slightly at their inferiority.
"I've also seen them skirt around the dragons like they was wild beasts. Like wherries or sum-thin'." She shook her head distainfully. Wykla cuddled the little bronze. Boreal hopped from the dragon onto His girl's shoulder. He peered down at the other bronze and cheeped at him. This was his girl, even if he was sharing. Isdrayon had his boy.
Fescues chittered at Anyang. Boys were like that. No manners. Did her boy give her yummy treats? Her girl made sure Boreal and her both got even shares.

At Boreal's cheep Isdrayon sidled back into Shedrawn's lap and rubbed his head against him in a rare show of public affection. See he was a good firelizard.
Anyang glared at him her eyes whirring red, STUPID BRONZE she indicated, making Shedrawns shoulders shake in silent laughter and nearly unseating the greens perched on him.
After his laugh, Shedrawn said, "He is sure going to be good competition with those wings when he is grown, competition at the very least for the browns perhaps. I do look forward to seeing you fly together, good things come with time as I well know being a candidate with not one but two handsome firelizards. So even if I don't impress, I will still have these two, perhaps then I will petition for a watchwher. He fished in a pocket and brought out some leftover sausage wrapped thickly in a cloth, he offered the endpeice to Anyang whose eyes had indeed started to whirl with the red of hunger and the next to Isdrayon. Taking a peice for himself he asked Wykla if she or her firelizards would like some as well.

Boreal hummed his approval of his offspring. They kept their's happy and they got tasty treats in return. Fescues shook her head slightly. Bronzes would do as they willed. Only golds could tell 'em other wise. She eyed Boreal respectfully then cheeped at Isdrayon. He could do it! She scolded the boy for nearly unseating her.
"Well, he's going to be a good flier at least." She said proudly. Kameth's desire to fly, with her desire to be good would take care of it. "I guess its what the competitions for. I bet he'll enter just to prove he can." She smiled at Shedrawn.
"I have to admit, I'm looking forward to flying too. Don't give up your hopes yet. It might take awhile for the right dragon to be shelled for you." It would be nice if he did Impress, she thought. I'd like to see Isdrayon sometimes, and I'm sure Boreal and Fescues would too.
She laughed. "Sure if you don't mind sharing."
Fescues didn't hesitate to beg directly from Shedrawn, though Boreal chose to wait for His girl to feed him.

Shedrawn stuffed a piece of sausage into Fescues' maw and handed some over to Wykla to be distributed as she pleased. He was immediately scolded by Anyang who chittered at him angrily. "Alright, alright, impudent lizard!" he stuffed her face to and fed Isdrayon another piece for good measure.
Isdrayon yawned after his meal and curled up into a tight ball on Shedrawn's lap.
Anyang proceeded to chatter a little more with Fescues before joining her bronze in his nap.
"Lazy firelizards," Shedrawn smiled down at them. Isdrayon chirped a denial at him, while Anyang ignored them both.
"How many hatchings have you been too?" Shedrawn asked Wykla, after he had finished nimbling on his bit of sausage. His question was punctuated by a blast of thunder which disturbed his firelizards for a moment.

Fescues cheeped and chomped on the sausage happily. She hummed in Shedrawn's ear. Wykla chuckled. She accepted the piece and broke off a bit for Boreal. Her fingers deposited into the flit's open mouth. Leaning back against Kameth's side. For a moment she chewed the food and watched the lightning.
"Two. The one before I'd barely turned 12 turns. And of course Kameth's hatching." She grinned and patted the brilliant blue hide behind her. "Aye, but they make great bed warmers. So what did you think of the last hatching?"
Boreal chomped the offering and settled down onto His girl's shoulder.

"Well I found it amusing and exciting, " I liked the rainforest greens, and Kameth's coloring. Rayenth is a pretty crimson and a bit of a surprise as she is an atypical. I loved the blacks personality, the way he teased the weyr woman of all people and I have found white Aerith to be a sweetheart. I could feel that humming right down to my toes."
Anyang struggled with a piece of sausage, (deciding she wasn't going to nap anyhow with food still around,) tearing it up as apparantly she was too dainty to eat it in a bite, even though Shedrawn had made it the right size.

Fescues watched Anyang curiously. She nodded. "The humming is how we know the hatching is about to start. It's a good thing we can feel it whereever we are." Wykla laughed.
"I like how all the dragons have different personalities. It seems as though no two are alike. 'Course, no two people are alike either. Some dragons seem so bold, and others can be so timid. In the end they pair up with the right person or leave."
The young girl wrapped her hands around her knee and watched the lightning. Stories about how a dragon never chose wrong came to mind. "I wonder how the dragon's choose, ya'know? When do they decide that Their's isn't there?"
Boreal curled himself up for a nap.

"I think part of it is when they are in the egg at the touching, and the other part when they hatch and are searching is just to be sure theirs isn't there, that is usually when they go between, after they look." Shedrawn mused.
Anyang looked back at Fescues, having given up her shredding her mouth was now quite full of sausage and she looked quite comical.
Isdrayon stared at Anyang.
"I wonder about their personalities too, i wonder if when we touch their shell they don't read us just like we read them."

The green chittered playfully. Fescues suggested swallowing. "Maybe the egg touching helps, but it wasn't always done. So how did they choose then? Just that search after hatching doesn't give 'em much time." She petted Boreal softly.
"Well their personalities are well developed at hatching. You saw how the trio of blues acted, and how playful that green was. I don't think the shell touching is so much for them as for us." She paused to consider and confer with Kameth.
How did you know I was right for you? How do dragons pick their riders?
The blue turned his head from watching the storm to look at His with blue eyes. I do not know how, Mine. All I know is that you were right for me.

"You make very good points but perhaps we are not meant to understand, we are just meant to be." Shedrawn said wistfully, his mind whirring with little firelizards and larger dragons. He chuckled at Anyang. "Gluttonous flit", he stroked her back getting her to swallow finally instead of grumbling at Fescues through her mouthful.
Anyang sighed as the food passed.
Isdrayon looked at her eyes whirling blue and green he seemed to be laughing silently at his green friend.

She chuckled. "You agree far too readily with me. Some of the adults would probably box my ears for what I just said. Still, adults ain't always right."
Kameth gave a small rumble as his eyes tinted slightly with red. He wouldn't let them.
Wykla sat a few moments soothing Kameth. They were still just kids. Even he had to listen to adults. Even when he grew up, blues were one of the lowest on the totem pole. The young girl decided they'd just have to get into a wing where she agreed with the wingleader.
"It's interesting they can't answer that hu?" Was it they couldn't, or they didn't want too. She laughed to brush it off. "Too much thinking hurts. Looks like that storm is about over." She noticed the greatly decreased sound of thunder and the further away lightning strikes.
"What do you got to do now?" She looked at him curiously. Knowing a candidate's life, they'd probably assigned him some chore or other.
Fescues trilled and bumped her friend consolingly. There would be more food later. Boreal hummed his happiness as a finger scritched his neck.

A flat martyred expression crossed Shedrawn's face, (it was relatively fake of course) "Glowbaskets unfortunately," he said. He wrunkled up his nose, "Could be worse I suppose I hear gutting packtail fish stinks and is also dangerous, but I like gutting fish, it demands attention at least, but I suppose we can't have our dragonriders tripping because I was to lazy to change glows." he babbled on. "At least I have company." he gestured to the two flits clinging to him. "They are quite helpful and at least with glows I don't have to worry about Anyang sneaking fish out from under me."
Anyang tried to look innocent in front of Fescues and failed miserably.
"Come to think about it after glow I have to help with the fish in the kitchens," he laughed uproariously at his own apparent folly. "they will be biting good after a storm or so I have been told by former fishcraft apprentices at the Harperhall."

Wykla nodded sympathetically. "They make you tramp everywhere for them. I usually had to have a partner help cause I was too short." She made a face then grinned. "Yeah, I gotta see my way too." It was kinda fun to tease the boy. Kameth being only a baby, it was like she was and was not a dragon rider.
Flit company was better than no company. She snickered when he realized he might have to do fish after all. Fescues tossed a wink at Anyang.
"Oh really? That explains why we have fish after storms then. Interesting." She patted the blue hide of Kameth. "I should go see about filling his gullet again. Hopefully the flies wont be too bad." She pulled herself to her feet. At her signal Fescues left Shedrawn and perched on her girl's free shoulder.
Kameth climbed to his feet. He looked at the two flits with Shedrawn but didn't feel he needed to say anything. His belly was getting very empty, and now with the storm passed he focused on getting it filled.

Shedrawn's eyes widened. "When i said dragonriders I meant you too." he lurched to his feet and stretched himself out, his flits clung to the movement.
Anyang chattered her goodbye to Fescues and Boreal.
Isdrayon also cheeped to his Father and the green.
"Well I shall see you soon. Glowbaskets are calling my name." He grinned and bowed her out of the Weyr. "Dragonrider," he said respectfully.
