"I bet I could make a killing at a kiddie's birthday party with the whole 'vanishing into subspace' business. They'd never be able to figure out where the cards disappeared to." He grinned, watching the various looks change across the features of her face. It was a thought, at the very least; the whole birthday party thing. He would imagine one could steal enough energy to run all of the lights in Destiny City at one of those during a performance, but he wasn't quite sure he could bring himself to stoop that low. Not for kids, at least.
"It can be a bit silly, but you can also learn a lot from it if you're good with strategies. The whole point is to come up with an army that's strong enough to stand its own against others. You pick the creatures you want on your side, the spells you might be interested in using and you make sure that, no matter what, you've got a back-up when you start running low on life."

"You really could," Painite laughed, just imagining it. She doubted they were 'supposed' to use their subspace pocket for making money and taunting small children, but it certainly was a funny idea and she grinned at him for putting it in her head.
Anyway, he probably had the same idea of using it for the benefit of the Negaverse, anyway. Though Painite wasn't yet sure if she could target children as easily as she could anyone else. It seemed they were on the same level as far as that went, though they didn't say it.
"Strategies?" she asked, instantly perking up and looking at him with suddenly very interested, and rather wide, eyes. She listened to him as he explained the basics, thinking it sounded like a challenging, interesting game. And here she was, thinking it was just for nerds who liked to play pretend.
Well. She wasn't sure if that wasn't still true, but at least now it sounded like something she would go nerd for.
"I never thought it was so complicated. And you have to use strategy to win fights? Like, beyond just your army and monsters. Do you get to come up with your plans of attacks? Traps?"

"There's a lot to it; a lot more than most people are willing to admit, at the very least. Strategy definitely plays a big part in it as well. There are trap cards and things you can do to hinder your opponents advances and it always helps to have some sort of plan. As a matter of fact, most decks are built around a plan of some sort. It just depends on how you pull it off."
Some people were good at it, others were bad. Rik, currently Lieutenant Richterite, was one of the people who considered himself to be a pretty good player. While he may win some and loose some, he always walked away from the 'battle' having learned something about the cards he kept in hand.
"Maybe, if you're interested, I can bring an extra deck along with me next time... And we'll teach you how to play."

Painite looked fascinated.
"Okay, you have to show me this game," she told him, not exactly making a request. She nodded her head a few times, to solidify this new plan. "Definitely. I want to see these cards. Can you show me a game when you play next?" She beamed brightly, excited.
It was a nice distraction from all the fighting, at least. There was no harm in having fun and keeping themselves feeling 'normal', when everything was going crazy around them.
She didn't feel awkward about her requests at all.
When he did say she would be able to learn from him, and whoever 'we' were, she clapped her hands and laughed. "Good! Brilliant! That sounds fun! I never thought a card game could be... involved, but you certainly make it sound good!"

"It's a date, then." He grinned, snatching his coffee cup up so that he could finish off the rest of it, tossing the can lightly into the nearby trash can afterward. "I'll make sure to grab enough cards that you can sift through to make your own deck for next time and then we'll begin the training."
He nodded slowly, confirming that once more before glancing over at his fellow Lieutenant. "Just take care of yourself between now and then... And try not to come up with any reasons to wear more purple and blue?"

Painite nodded her head, actually rather excited about playing a card game she knew nothing about. She was sure he would teach her, and whatever friends he played with would be just as nice, so she wasn't worried about it. No, she was eager to see how this game could be strategic, and to try and prove herself.
Maybe she could win a match! The newbie, coming from no where, to beat the experienced guys? That would be awesome.
Of course, then she had to wonder if there were matches, or how it would be played.
She would have to google.
Nodding her head, she offered him a wave, taking her time with her coffee. She smiled brightly, not bothering to try and hide her excitement and happiness. "Sure thing! You too, of course. I'm really looking forward to this! Oh, hey, here."
She ducked out of sight so she could power down and use her pencil to write down her home phone number on the cardboard grip on the cup, taking that off before powering back up and stepping back out to hand it to him.
