Mai -death, slayer reth -arcane il -giver Ar -high edhel -elf
Mairethil basically means 'giver of the arcane death' and Aredhel is a term in 'The Silmarillion' that means 'high elf.' The Dungeons and Dragons 'Races of the Wild' book has an elven prefix and suffix list for names. 'The Silmarillion', as stated before is also a good source.

Ok, I've seen afew people making the mistake, the first part of the word goes after the secound part of teh word when you say it, so, if you want your name to mean "Moonwhisper", then you would put the elven words together, "Whisper-Moon", so, instead of the name looking like, "Odelgalan", it would be, "Galanodel"... errr, I don't want to start any confusion, but, yeah... some other elven words(err... D&D High Elven): Odel=Moon Galan=Whisper Siann=Brook Kiir=Gem Ama=Flower Ilphu=Blossom Stacia=Flower Lia=Frond Don=Silver Amne=Oaken Meli=Heel
err... I think thats right... eh, I'm pretty sure it is <^.^>

Hm... Sunlight... Suits your avatar! whee My name (Alatariel Inglorion) is just a translation of my real name, I'm not sure whether it's in Quenya or something else though... I think I'll check that Council of Elrond website to see what the meaning is.
Though my real name, which is chinese means Midnight Forest, or at least that's what my friend told me whee I like both names.
::Comes back half an hour later::
Well I've done my research and apparantly Alatariel is the Telerin version for Galadriel. Galad is Sindarin for radient and Riel means garlanded maiden so it's maiden crowned with a radiant garland.
As for my last name... I found out I share it with another elf from the series xd Gildor Inglorion. Anyways... Inglorion is a combination of the Quenya word Indo meaning heart, or mood and Glor, meaning golden, thus a possible translation is "golden heart." I think the ending Ion is just an add on type thing...
So altogether I guess it would mean "Maiden crowned with a radiant garland and a heart of gold". Pretty okay to me! biggrin

I chose my name quite by chance. I started writing a book about an elven girl, and I searched for a name, I got Niamh for the Irish/Gaelic... I think it is the name of a mythical princess? And the Shadowleaf part I made up.

GGX9900 How do you change your gaian name? I just chose one for sake of choosing one. It''s the same as my battle net name. You can change your name under Profile --> Edit Profile. Note that you can only change your name for a maximum of 2 times. Considering whether I should change mine to an Elven name...

Here's a website I've been meaning to post on here. It tells you your elven name, however I don't think it's accurate. It tells you your Hobbit name too which I found amusing. http://www.chriswetherell.com/elf/That's where I got my name Miranwe, its really Maranwe, but I wanted an I in it. . .I'm wierd I know. . .
