They say ignorance and devotion are linked...

Katashi walked into the room, and caught a glimpse of his Captain, teaching a student. The student was apparently working on a kido spell, and as Katashi entered the room he sent a gust of wind around the room. Swiftly, Katashi stepped and avoided the gusts. His cloak gently moved with the wind, but he had so expertly dodged the low level kido spell that his uniform was left completely untarnished. As his cloak blew slightly off of his shoulders, his First Division Vice-Captain badge was visible. It glistened in an imposing manner before the cloak fell back over his shoulders. His brown eyes caught the student's, and did not have anything to address to that particular student. Then his eyes went to his captain. The change of focus seemed, by no means, disrespectful. If anything, his eyes simply looked as if they were looking for something and that student wasn't it. However, when Katashi's eyes finally focused on the captain, they barely widened and then fell back to normal in the way that a person's eyes do, when they find something they are/have been looking for. Just barely noticeable...

"Hokona Taichou," Katashi greeted the Soutaichou quickly, bowed, and walked over to where his captain was. He looked out the window and the breeze blew past his face. "It is quite a nice day out today, Taichou." The Vice-Captain said in an almost automated way. Katashi was a failure at smalltalk, and so he decided to pursue his true reason for coming. Though he had been working diligently at paperwork, he had met a dead-end as the Soutaichou's signatures were needed on some reports that had come in. Katashi had filed them, filled out all the other necessary sections, but there was still a need for the Soutaichou's signature before they could be filed away. Thus, the Vice-Captain moved his cloak to reveal a stack of papers which he held out for the Soutaichou. There were several papers, and each of the papers was written in beautiful, flawless calligraphy as was Katashi's style. He continued to say, "Sorry to bother you, Hokona Taichou, but these papers require your signature." he said simply while still holding the papers out.

Mayu looked over his shoulder as Katashi entered the room, his eyes slightly annoyed but he turned back to the window. He sighed heavily "We really MUST work on your small talk. Because you're going to be very boring if this continues." he said and turned to take the papers. He turned to lean his back against the window, seeming to read through the paper work "What are these?" he asked, not willing to sign anything till he knew what was on them. He looked up as Minami spoke about how 'easy' it was and smirked For now.

They say ignorance and devotion are linked...

After the the Soutaichou first spoke, Katashi's expression didn't really change. He said smoothly in the same tone as earlier, "With all due respect, sir, I haven't really seen the need for smalltalk in my years." As he said this, he bowed slightly when his Captain took the paperwork, out of habit. When the Soutaichou aked what was on them, Katashi wondered why he couldn't just skim through them. At the same time, he didn't dare say anything, and rather he would have to parrot all of the reports in the way that was most respectful when someone asks what is on them. "The first several papers are authorization for a small-scale investigation regarding a missing person within the third division. It doesn't look like anything serious, and from what I can tell in the given evidence it appears that they'll find the corpse soon, as the fourth division reported that he has been receiving treatment for a deadly illness the past few years. I am guessing he left and committed senpuku rather than die slowly." To some, this may have seemed depressing but Katashi saw it in an analytical way and was simply reporting the facts to his captain.

"Below that," he continued, "Is the summary of a ninth division assignment. They were sent out to exterminate a hollow terrorizing citizens and the mission was successful. The only notable part of that case was that the hollow wounded two men and killed a citizen. There were no other casualties." Katashi had a soft-spot for when there were hollow casualties, as he himself has been personally affected by such a loss. But such things did not matter. With a deep breath, he continued, "Then, the fourth division is requesting new medical equipment, which they have acquired the funds to purchase. I don't really know much about medical equipment, but apparently some of the older equipment has gotten worn down and it is about the time they usually purchase new equipment." Katashi paused again after reciting all of the different papers. It seemed like a large amount of papers for such few matters, but at the same time all reports had to fit a special format which was quite intricate and detailed. Thus, a single report could be anywhere from ten to fifty pages for a matter of this small caliber. Once more, Katashi continued, "And that is all the papers there, sir."

I think it's just the opposite.

Only half listening, Mayu gazed at the room, his mind wandering to darker places than the light outside. He had skimmed through the papers already but wanted to know the extent that Katashi was able to express All due respect, my a**. he thought and rubbed his nose before digging in a pocket for something to sign with. Finding a pen, he signed all of them but didn't hand them back "You'll have to start seeing the need then, Katashi. I don't care for mindless drones that merely follow orders." he said, his own tone becoming colder as he shoved the papers back. He pushed them into Katashi's chest and kept them there with his hand, pinning them there "If I wanted someone to recite things to me like you just did, I'd get a parrot. Pick a paper and deal with the issue on it. Visit 3rd Division to ask if they need help with the investigation. Visit the injured of 9th Division as a member of the high command. Or go help 4th Division with removing the old equipment." he turned away from his lieutenant, his hands going back into his pockets "1st Division is the one to lead the way in all things. It won't do to have a less than empathetic face wandering around."

They say ignorance and devotion are linked...

When the Soutaichou spoke to him, Katashi's face flushed with anger. He couldn't help it, but he was simply following standard procedure here and the fact that the Soutaichou pushed back in the way he did was slightly upsetting. After the Soutaichou pulled his hand back, Katashi quickly caught the papers and stared into the Soutaichou's eyes in a way unlike his normal self: almost as if he was challenging in a saucy manner. "I assure you that this is not apathy, sir," he put a strange emphasis on the word "sir", but was able to quickly regain his normal composure. The fact that the Soutaichou automatically assumed that all he was doing was following orders was upsetting. In a way, that did define Katashi's personality, but at the same time he was more intelligent than that. More often than not, he had shown in missions that he was capable of thinking on his toes and, if it didn't deter from the main purpose of the mission, going against orders to ensure the safety of his squad members. Still, the Soutaichou was of higher rank and thus Katashi ought to treat him with more respect, even if he was slightly offended by his remarks.

"I already looked into the third division investigation, sir. The original paper work simply asked for permission to search for the member and I investigated with the fourth division and some normal members of the third division to find out what they knew and added what I learned of his condition as well as my own theory." He coughed and continued, "I spoke with the ninth division and found out the casualties from them before filling in the paperwork more as well as detailing the injuries of each squad member in the papers." Skimming probably wouldn't show that he had detailed the injured right arm of one of the squad members, probably restricting him from wielding a blade again, and the other Shinigami suffering from mild internal bleeding. Those were also small details which Katashi did not think were worthy of repeating in his summary/repetition of the paperwork.

Finally, Katashi chose to address the fourth division. "Before writing the request for the fourth division, I went to examine their equipment to discover that it was indeed in less than desirable working conditions. I offered some support in the moving of old equipment, however they told me that they had it under control." He had already done pretty much everything addressed by the Soutaichou, and took a deep breath after saying all of this. "I would have done more, Hokona Taichou," Katashi continued, "But there was other work to be attended to." There was always other work. Most work didn't really require the Soutaichou's signature, as generally the first division's vice-captain's signature was good enough. These were the special cases. After having reported all of this, Katashi finished by saying, "I am no drone, either. I simply see no need for smalltalk." There was really no other way to say this. Smalltalk was purposeless, by definition...

I think it's just the opposite.

"Perhaps you should have included all that in your summary then, though in less words. I'm not a mind reader, Lieutenant Imai Katashi." Mayu put equal emphasis on Katashi's title, almost mimicking the emphasis that Katashi had placed on the word 'sir'. He faced Katashi's anger with a frown "Clearly you haven't been paying attention, fool. I CAN'T read." he was neither ashamed of this admittance nor did he ever try to hide it most of the time "I require you to tell me everything in detail because of this. My attempts to learn how to read have been less than successful to this day. Therefore the next time I ask you to read something to me, just do it." he snapped, crossing his arms and glowering up at Katashi, slightly irked that his subordinate was taller than him by so much. Being only 5'5" was often a pain and his frustration with it had developed into the drive to be more powerful, a good thing considering his position "And you better learn small talk. That's an order. Small talk is necessary to learn the character of a person as well as to weed out people who may betray m-the society."

"Scars on the back..."

Takashi was having fun sending out a gust of wind from his palm using the hado technique that Hokona-sensei taught him. He would switch hands every so often so that he was certain he was amberdextrious when it came to kido. Then again maybe just this one technique. He would move while he shot a gust of wind at each wall of the room. Luckily there was nothing hanging from the walls, or anything in the room for that matter. Hell if it had been anything in the room, it would've been wrecked. Takashi was shooting out the Hado 1: Thrust; like it was a gun.

It while he was training that a male came into the room. His appearance was interesting. Long dreds in a pony tail, brown skin, a serious facial features, and a cloak over his shoulders. It was right when he walked in that Takashi shot, the Hado 1: Thrust, in his direction. Takashi was about to yell out, 'Look out!' but the male gracefully dodged the kido. His cloak blowing back and revealing his Vice-Captain badge. Takashi eyes widened as the male made eye contact with him. By expression Takashi thought he was in trouble but the male went over to Hokona-sensei instead. Not wanting to interefere Takashi continued his training.

Shifting his arm back so that his elbow shot past his back. His riatsu flared up. Wondering what would happen if he juiced up the amount he put into his kido. He thrusted his arm forward. "Hado #1: Thrust!" A massive gust of wind fired from his arm. In result he slid backwards abit. The paper's Imai-dono would have in hands would flutter around the room, if not secured in his grip. Takashi turned around and looked at his sensei and bowed. "I'm sorry Hokona-sensei." His glance went to the Vice-Captain. "As well, I'm sorry Imai-dono."

"Its fine. We're done." The statement signaled a complete end to Mayu's conversation with Katashi in Mayu's mind. He turned around to speak with Takashi "It seems like you have mastered Thrust. Lets see what else we can teach you." he said pleasantly, tapping his chin with a finger "I think that we should work on...Hado 4. White Lightning." He raised a finger and lightning sparked from his fingers as he shot it at a wall. It smoldered but the walls remained intact since it wasn't very strong this time.

Katashi opened his mouth to respond, however as he was about to the young student cast Hado number one and caused a gust of wind to blow past him. Luckily, Katashi had a naturally tight grip plus being tense from his conversation and as such the papers were secured. His eyes passed to the student, but he said nothing. Learning to control kido was more important than using as much reiatsu as possible. Katashi tended to favor kido, and was remarkably gifted at it as well, and as a student he had always took the time to focus on spending countless hours on each of the basic techniques to ensure that each was perfectly and flawlessly mastered. And flawless were many of his techniques, especially the basic ones. At the same time, he couldn't be a kido expert as he believed that a member of the first division should be well versed, so he is almost equally as skilled in sword fighting and slightly less skill in hand-to-hand fighting. These skills weren't super powerful, but they were more powerful than an unranked Shinigami. And he believed that his technique with kido spells was slightly higher than the Soutaichou. But he did not say anything. Until the Soutaichou said that they were moving on to Hado number four. Without even really thinking, Katashi said, "Sir, I'd recommend teaching Sai before Byakurai. A Shinigami cannot be a well-trained Shinigami in only Hado spells, and if you train a Shinigami in only one type of spell at first, they are bound to be lacking in the other type at some point in their training." After saying this, Katashi coughed and straightened his papers. "But I am not telling you how to teach; you may do what you wish, Hokona Taichou."

Takashi nodded to his sensei, and watched as he demonstrated the hado technique. Hado #4: White Lightning. A really cool technique non-the-less. He looked over to the wall it struck, leaving a smoldering it but the wall was still intact. Did Hokona-sensei hold back or was this room protected by kido for this training. Maybe both. Takashi stood to his feet and began raising his hand in the manner his sensei did. Focusing his kido in the manner that he did before, he tried to produce the white lighting but nothing came from his finger. The strain was evident on his face.

When Imai-dono spoke up. Takashi halted his secondary attempt at the hado technique. To Takashi's perspective it seemed that the two of them had totally different perspectives on everything. It was a wonder that Hokona-sensei and Imai-dono ended up in the same squad let alone as superior officer and second in command. Takashi waited for Hokona's response to Imai-dono's suggestion.

Finally. He voices an opinion. Took him long enough. Mayu gave Katashi a blank stare without responding for a moment "Be my guest." he said carefully "I am only temporary till a more suitable teacher can be found. One that I have not been able to find." he almost said more but instead stepped back. Unlike some people, Mayu knew when to yield whether the person was smarter or not. This will give me a chance to see more than just the paperwork side of Katashi as well. he linked his fingers together and leaned against the wall, simply watching and smiling "Maybe I'll make you the teacher. You seem to be lacking in those wonderful social skills that I love to see employed by my squad. This may help."

They say ignorance and devotion are linked...

Honestly, Katashi was a bit surprised by the Soutaichou's reaction. He hadn't expected the captain to just be okay with him correcting his teaching techniques, and as such Katashi took a moment to respond. It seemed that the student had stopped practicing the technique and was waiting to see how things would turn out. With a slight smile, Katashi pulled a roll of bandages from out of his uniform and began to tie his left wrist for support, he took practicing kido very seriously and didn't want to injure himself. As he placed the strip on the bottom of his wrist and began to wind the bandages around his wrist, he responded to the Soutaichou's comment, "I wouldn't say that I lack in social skills, necessarily." Maybe he was a bit awkward, but he didn't particularly see a need for too much socialization either. With his bandages finished, Katashi rotated his left wrist and decided to test how his kido skills were before resigning himself to any teaching. It had been a while since he had practiced kido, as the past while he had spent all his time isolated working on the infinite amount of paperwork. Turning away from the Soutaichou and student, Katashi pointed his hand at the wall. "Hado number 54, Haien."

A wave of purple energy shot at the wall and made direct contact. Since the walls were reinforced, the shot merely dissipated. But it was enough to tell Katashi that, while his kido skills were a bit rusty, they weren't so rusty that he couldn't execute a simple Bakudo spell to teach a student. Katashi turned back towards the Soutaichou and said, "Very well, sir. If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to teach this student the first Bakudo spell." he felt the need to check to make sure that this was okay by the captain before beginning.

I think it's just the opposite.

Sitting down cross legged, Mayu motioned for Katashi to continue. His show of kido had no visible effect on Mayu and he yawned slightly, breathing in deep before exhaling "Let's get on with it, shall we? I'm sure you have tons of papers that I need to sign...much more than you brought." he said, not meaning anything rude or condescending with his statement. He was very curious how Katashi would deal with a student.

They say ignorance and devotion are linked...

As the Captain spoke, Katashi nodded along slowly. He took no offense, as he did have more paperwork to do. In most squads, the burdens of paperwork was put onto the Vice-Captain, and as such Katashi had always had much work to do, and even more as he was the Vice-Captain of the First Division, which received more paperwork than the other divisions as it was. With that, he turned towards the student and cracked his wrist. He held his left hand out in front of him, with his index and middle finger raised and pointing upwards in the way that was traditional for this spell. Quietly, Katashi cleared his throat and said, "Bakudo Number One," he tore his hand downwards, and the student's limbs should contract together in a way that restricts his movements and causes him to fall to the floor. "Sai!" With that, the spell was said and for at least a moment, the student wouldn't be able to move. Katashi had gone easy, and not used the spell to the full power he was capable of, but a spell of this level should restrict the movements of an unranked Shinigami for at least a few moments. The student, by no means, would be able to break out easily ((I think that [3] Paragraphs seems reasonable to break out, as Katashi does have a level 5 "technique", but went easy))

After having completed the spell, Katashi decided to clarify his actions while the student was still trying to figure out how to break out. "You may be wondering why I am using the technique on you to begin." Subconsciously, Katashi cracked his knuckles while continuing, "I believe that a person cannot truly learn a technique until he has felt it first hand, whether it is a Hado spell, Bakudo spell, sword technique, or even a technique with your Zanpakuto. Of course, the purpose of this spell was not to restrict you indefinitely, simply restrict you for enough time that you have to actually work to be able to break free." Having clarified the purpose of this exercise, Katashi stood around and waited for the student to free himself so that he could continue.

I think it's just the opposite.

Takashi watched a Imai-dono held his left hand out in front of him, with his index and middle finger raised and pointing upwards in the way that was traditional for this spell. Lowered his hand downwards, and the Takashi's limbs should contract together in a way that restricts his movements and causes him to fall to the floor. Takashi fell to his knees and instantly began to struggle. He hated being tied down or even held down. Restriction pissed him off.

As he pulled at his restraints Imai-dono explained his reasons behind doing this. Did this stop Takashi from still trying to free himsefl. No. Takashi riatsu began to flow from his body, as veins began to bulge from his neck, forehead, and arms. He grunted as he pulled at his restraints. His riatsu started to build up as the restraints started to give.

Takashi let out a powerful roar, as the restraints around his limbs began to stretch outward. His eyes glowing with riatsu, and his face deadly serious. The one's around his legs shattered and he began to stand up. He stretched the restraints around his arms and kept pulling til they began to crack and then shattered. Takashi pointed his finger at Imai-dono filling like getting a bit of vengeance. He mimicking Imai-dono's finger positioning. He called out the technique. "Bakudo Number One!" The anger clearly in his voice. "Sai!"

Like Imai-dono's Takashi would send kido based restraints around the males limbs. Though unlike Imai-dono's were way stronger even though he held back. Takashi was a bit pissed but he contained his anger once he returned the favor. He didn't say much but he stood there waiting for Imai-dono to break his Hado. Now that he knew how the technique worked and how to use it. He needed to practice and make it stronger.
