"I use an aquarium to house him. It's small, though--it's nowhere near big enough for him anymore." Cardi turned to look at the box, kneeling on the ground to release the small centipede. "Why, do you have a tank in mind? I'll only really need one for home, it's not like I'll be taking him anywhere else. Well, besides home.
"As for size? Not a clue. Lamia says it was an experimental spell, so there's no knowing which way it'll go." Just thinking about it started to make Lamia angry again. Okay, so admittedly arthropods had short life spans, and Benny wasn't going to be long for this world anyway. Was that any reason to use him as an experiment? Especially since no one knew which way this would go? I love science, I really do, I approve of experiments and recommend them, but really?! You should ask before you experiment on a pet!

"Wouldn't a bigger tank for Benny be the best way to have him happy?" Katsuo asked as he smiled lightly. He watched the small centipede leave on its way back towards the bush he had found it under. His tail swished as his ears twitched at the sound of bird calls.
"Seems this Lamia doesn't really care for the well-being of Benny or yourself." He commented as he crossed his paws over his chest. He noticed that she was getting upset over his bringing it up. "Don't get too upset, Cardi... I'm here for you as a friend. I can always help you out with taking care of Benny. If you don't mind that is." He spoke in a soft tone as he held out a paw to her. It has some scratches and cuts from looking in the bushes.

"That's the thing. I do need a new tank for him. His old tank is much too small. He'd definitely like a larger one," Cardi added with a smile. She was starting to grow to like this...Katso...guy. He really was very helpful. I wonder if he likes biology as much as I do?
Cardi shrugged. "Lamia's a witch, always looking for new spells and new things to do. She just didn't realize how much I love my Benny, and all of the other pets I keep." She sighed. "She's not bad. Just sometimes...she forgets herself." She shook her head and smiled at him, giving his paw a hearty shake. "Thanks for the offer. Hey, is your hand okay? Looks like it got beat up." She leaned over and gave it a hard look.

Katsuo chuckled as she smiled, "I could help with setting up his new tank if you'd like. It would be a wonderful experience to learn how Benny lives." He offered his help as his tail lightly swayed behind him. His ears pinned back slightly at the word witch. "This Lamia sounds like an awful fox to be around when it comes to her forgetting, Cardi." Speaking his mind's opinion as his ears perked back to their normal stance. He blinked, looking down at his paw then chuckled lightly. "My hand? Oh, tis fine. Only this way from reaching around in the bushes." He explained as he wiped it onto his chest, getting some dirt off of it.

The more Katsuo said it, the more Cardi lost the will to defend her housemate. He's right--I ought to give her a piece of my mind when I get back to the House! "I'd love to have some help," she said, forcing a smile on her face. "Normally I'd ask Lamia, but the more I think about it, the more I think I should maybe stop trusting her so much. I mean, first pets, then what? Familiars?" She carefully tied Benny's box shut with a piece of string from her satchel and slid the box inside. "That ought to hold him until we get back to the House," she said to no one in particular. "And when we get there, maybe we can bandage your paw or at least clean it up. It's not healthy to get it all scratched up."

Katsuo listened as she talked about her housemate. He felt that she should of held his tongue when it came to his own opinion, but that usually got the best of him. "That's very kind of you. It'd be a good idea too." He said as his tail wagged lightly at the thought of being able to see her home.

Cardi nodded. It was decided, then. "Come on, let's go. Nice weather, isn't it?" she added awkwardly, looking up at the sky. It was nice weather, though, she reflected as she hoisted the satchel onto her shoulder and set off towards the House. The sun was out and it was warm, the breeze blowing softly through the grass and the trees. Soon there would be plenty of bugs. Well, there were always plenty of bugs to study, but different ones during the summer. She'd have to dig deeper for some of them, and for others, she would have to call on every ounce of patience she had to wait for them to catch and study them.

"It is quite lovely out at this time of day. Usually it would be warmer, but the breeze makes it even better." Katsuo said as he followed a little ways behind her. He looked around at the surrounding area to see that some animals roaming around. His attention was caught by a lone white butterfly. "Say Cardi, do you enjoy this weather?" Asking as he looked back to her.

Cardi opened her mouth to say something and was almost instantly distracted by a white butterfly. Following it with her gaze, trying to recognize the species--was that a cabbage butterfly?--she had to shake her head to remember where she was. Absently, she murmured, "This is the best weather there is. Warm, sunny, hardly a cloud in the sky, but a breeze bowing by enough to stir up the grasses. I can't think of anything better than to be outside on a day like this. Unless it's to be inside on a miserable, snowy, icy day." She inhaled deeply the scents of early summer. Dry grass and the last few blossoms of spring. Roses were starting to bloom, filling the air with a deep perfume.
"What do you like to do on a nice days like this?" she added. Did he like to collect "bugs" like she did? Probably not, but what did Katsuo like, anyway? That was his name, wasn't it? Katsuo.

Katsuo chuckled lightly at her attention being captured by the lone butterfly. She looked back to her as she talked about the weather. "I believe for cold and rainy days, you need to be with someone to make them better. am I right?" Asking as his cheeks gave off a slight tint of red to them. He took in a breath, enjoying the aroma of the late blooming flowers and scent of the summer. He blinked at her question then looked to her. "Well to be honest, I haven't done much lately. But now that I know that I can go outside and just admire nature without a worry in the world, it makes me feel great. Meeting you was even better, but maybe we can do this more often? I can help you collect bugs and other things for them." He said as his heart began to speed up a little. He ran out in front of her, grabbing hold of her paws in his. "I would love to help you in any way I can..." He said as he began to blush even more.

"Depends on whom you're with," Cardi said. "I'll hang out with Pwn on a rainy day, but don't ask me to hang out with Epic. He's absolutely no fun, and his daughter Beatrice? She's worse." Cardi shook her head at the foolishness of her housemates. Some of them were alright. Others? Not so much. She needed to hang out with someone who enjoyed the outdoors and would be as restless as she was. Sit around the house when there was so much to do outside? Even if it was cold and rainy? She only could be kept indoors by snow and ice! Mostly because her cold-blooded friends would be inside, too.
"Thank goodness for summer," she said fervently. "Warm days, sunshine, an excuse to get out into the world and see all sorts of creatures..." She was so wrapped up in her thoughts about the wonder of summer--dry ground beneath her feet, the sound of grasshoppers in the brush, birds singing in the trees--that she didn't notice Katsuo step out in front of her and grab her paws. She stumbled, eyes going wide as she stared at him in confusion. How and when did he get in front of her? Why was he grabbing her paws? "I, uh, I'd love to, um, have help." She stared, still startled, into his green eyes. There almost seemed to be a shimmer--where had she seen a green like that? It was much more lively than pine trees, or emeralds, or any other green thing she thought she heard people calling people's eyes. But why was Katsuo holding her hands?!

"Oh! I'm truly sorry..." Katsuo spoke in embarrassment as he let go of her paws. He moved out of her way as his cheeks were painted red from the action he had done without notice. Way to go, blockhead! You're gonna scare her off... He thought to himself as he looked to his feet. "Please forgive me... I-I, I had no idea where that action came from. But I'll be more careful to watch my actions and words." He said as he gave a sigh. His ears drooped in almost a manor where he had hurt.

Cardi had to work hard to stifle a sigh of confusion. What is with other people?! She was just as confused as she was before, and she was starting to feel frustrated at her own confusion. "Thanks," she muttered, managing to just barely keep the annoyance out of her voice. "That came right the heck out of nowhere." Had she just said that out loud? It sounded sort of...rude. And she knew that her foster-fathers would have scolded her for that rudeness.
A strange feeling came over her as she said that, as well, especially at his sigh and the drooped ears. She felt annoyed at...herself? That was weird! She couldn't remember feeling like that before! I really shouldn't have said that. I should start watching my words. "I'm sorry I was short with you," she sighed. "I really shouldn't have said that that way. You just...you startled me. Okay? Please don't look sad." That probably wouldn't make him go back to his usual self. What should she do? What did people do in situations like this? Complement them, right? "Um. You have nice eyes," she said quickly. "They remind me of beetle wings." That was certainly true--at least, the part of the carapace that covered the wings. They were much more alive than some silly tree needles. And that made them much prettier, of course!

Katsuo's ears drooped even more when she said that his action had came out of nowhere. His head drooped a little too as she felt like he was only trouble with these strange feeling that had over come him. He blinked when she apologized, "It's alright, Cari. I got carried away so it's my fault." He said as his head was back to it's normal position. When she complimented on his eyes, his ears perked up as his tail wagged a little. "Beetle wings? I've never thought of them like that before. I got them from my mother." He said as she gave a little smile. "Shall we continue on our way to your home?" He suggested as he stood as her side.

Give a person a complement, and they mispronounce your name. Why do I even bother? "It's Cardi," she nearly snapped. She sighed once again and said in a normal tone of voice, "Yeah, let's."
His mother? Of course she understood what mothers were. You didn't hang out with a lot of other noodles--many of them Spartans--without figuring out how that sort of thing generally speaking worked. "What's your mother like?" she asked curiously. "I don't have one, myself. Is having a mother different from having a father?"
