Thump. Thump. Thump.
Her heart was hammering in her chest as her muscles involuntarily tensed. Her emotions bordered between panic and excitement, making for a giddy concoction. Sakura felt like a foal again, trapped in a world of anticipation and wonder at the world around her. For a moment, the familiar feelings swept over her. Closing her eyes, the memories enveloped her. Her first footsteps from her mother's side, that time she'd played a trick on her father and been so scared afterwards that she'd run and ended up lost, the impatient pestering for her parents to leave already so they could go out exploring.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
The memories gave strength to her suddenly shaking muscles, but somewhere within her she knew she'd be forgiven for going. Her parents had taught her to be brave and strong, and so she would. No fear. No regrets. After all, she would return to her forest after. If father returned whilst she was gone, he'd wait surely? He'd go back to their cave and find it was occupied. He'd know it was her! The conviction slowly grew. This one experience couldn't hurt.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
The racing of her heart was no longer due to fear. A fixated excitement seized her. Her head was miles above them, lost in the clouds. Taking a shaky breath, she nodded.
"Let's go."
