Well I'm guessing HoND in French is very good; for obvious reasons.

Okay the original Phoebus doesn't seem very nice at all. Wonder why they changed his character so much for the movie...? Anyways I need to read that book.

I'd actually have to say Frollo is still the main villain, but he is not as "evil" in the book. When I read it, I just saw Phoebus as a womanizing douche-bag. It's a very good book and I highly recommend it. It's quite surprising how many characters were left out of the Disney movie.

I love listening to Disney songs in different languages too. Right now I'm hooked on the German stage adaption of HoND. Speaking of which, "Someday" is one of my favorite songs. It's just so inspiring.

Yeah I thought Frollo was still the main villain but less evil than in the movie. Though of course in the movie Frollo thought he was doing the right thing (which of course he wasn't)... which just makes him even more scary. He's a interesting character in any case.

Indeed; Someday is a very good song, very meaningful.

I could understand why Disney would not want Phoebus to stay a rapist. Even more the lack of Gringore was what pissed me off. I like the poor little struggling poet, but I guess Esmeralda's Husband would be bad to include in the Disney version. Also what they did to Clopin was hurtful even though I loved him in the movie he needed more scenes and needed to be even more awesome. Frollo was the main villain. There is no denying that. It was his plans that ruins most everyone's lives throughout the novel.

Well yes I understand that; but the fact they made Phoebus completely different was what I meant. I do agree Clopin should of had more scenes; he was cool never the less.

Also I forgot to mention 'In a World of my Own' from Alice in Wonderland.

Well he was the captain of the guard and he did like Esmeralda. They just changed his character to something that kids could cope with and removed anything that would force the rating higher.

Look at other Disney works. Cinderella? They could not exactly have the step mother cut off the sister's toe or heel. Not to mention being blinded by birds and keep a G rating.

Yessssss; but its just the fact that the way you guys describe Phoebus in the book makes him seem more like an antagonist... now a villain to a hero is a rather big change... in my opinion anyway.

Well of course I understand why they make certain changes. Alice in Wonderland for example; there's a lot of characters not in the movie that are in the book... Disney thought that the movie had too many characters in the film; they were originally going to have a segment with the Jabberwock and quite a few other characters didn't make an appearence. Also the fusing of both 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' and 'Through the Looking-Glass and what Alice found There'... but then... most movies seem to use characters from both books anyway. I can understand what he meant; its works well in the book to have a lot of characters but it would of made the movie even more episodic than it is already.

This conversation is changing into a little chat about changes from books to movies rather than songs it seems...

I'll try to limit my list, but I probably won't succeed:

'Merrily on Our Way to Nowhere In Particular' from The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
'Spoonful of Sugar' from Mary Poppins
'Fourtuosity' from The Happiest Millionaire
All Newsies songs
'Be Prepared' from Lion King [German]
'Hakunah Matata' from Lion King
All Goofy movie songs
'God Help the Outcasts' from Hunchback of Notre Dame
'Zira's Lullaby' from Lion King 2
'One of Us' from Lion King 2
'I'm Still Here' from Treasure Planet
'No Way Out' from Brother Bear
'Friends on the Other Side' from Princess and the Frog
All Tangled songs

Okay that's a lot but there's more that are amazing. They're all so catchy!!

Also to add to the conversation above, Disney changes the original stories all the time. Another example: 'Pocahontas', and not just a specific character, the whole movie.
