I finished reading it.
I must admit the time line was a bit confusing at first but you get a better understanding of it once you read more.

Must admit, I enjoyed reading Sabriel, I'm planning on reading the rest of the series.

If so, tell me I'm not insane by agreeing with me on the point that Sabriel is kinda similar in style and tone to those books.

You are totally not insane. Sabriel is has a similar style to The Golden Compass series. I quite enjoyed reading those books when I was in high school.
