"Ah, I see. I don't generally experience negative emotions. I'm meant to protect against those." For all his quick thinking and proficiency in combat and surveillance, Lucas the Other had the approximate emotional depth of a Beldum. A sleeping Beldum. Maybe even a dead Beldum.

"Thirteen... I suppose that's when I first began to exist." He had to think back on it. It seemed as though it had been ages ago - possibly because it really had been - but he remembered it clearly enough. It was his most closely guarded memory, shoved so far back that even he had begun to forget it. "That's when I killed my father."

"So you're like a robot?" She said with a small smile - wait, did he experience positive emotions? Crap, maybe he didn't - then she made an amused 'hmm' before looking up to watch Odette. The Pidgeot still looked perfectly fine, so no need to stop her. "Saying 'not generally' implies that you still do experience them, however infrequently," she pointed out.

However, she was completely unprepared (as if anyone could be for such a statement) when he divulged that bit of information, and her eyebrows raised in surprise. "You.. what?" Why would Lucas kill his father? At thirteen? "What happened for you to do such a thing?" She hadn't been incredibly fond of her father, but she didn't hate him or anything - it was hard for her to imagine Lucas killing his father. What could've happened?

"Not quite a robot, I wouldn't say. Program might be somewhat accurate, though." The most accurate and correct response, as he saw it, was guardian. And what did emotions matter as long as he fulfilled the role with which he had been charged? "That's correct. I like to believe that I'm human. The fact that I experience an emotional response from time to time gives me some faith in that belief." The majority of negative emotion that he felt, he found, was fear that he would fail in that role.

"I don't know. It was before I existed." Mere moments before, but still before. "I think the memory might be lost. Either that or it's off-limits to me." He folded his arms across his chest, as if in contemplation. "I don't believe it was malicious, though. The memories he has of his family are treasured."

"Hmm," she hummed thoughtfully as she walked over to the treadmill Zeus was on to see what it was set to before turning it down to a decent-paced walk. "Of course you're human, that fact's obvious." What else could he be? Lucas was a person that just had two separate personalities - that didn't mean one of them was real and one of them was fake. "And just from time to time?" Hmm... "I think you could experience them more if you let yourself. It seems like you're suppressing them, though that could be subconsciously more than anything else." Could a separate personality have its own subconscious or did it share one with the other personality...?

Nope, still crazy.

"An accident, perhaps?" She commented, changing the topic as she turned to watch Odette. She was showing signs of fatigue finally, so Claire whistled again and the Pidgeot immediately swerved to descend near her owner. She took a few steps forward because of the weight, and cooed as Claire reached out to stroke Odette's head. "Stretch your wings," she said. It would be too awkward for her to walk around with the heavy backpack, so stretching would be a better method of cooling down. "He?" She asked, shifting her gaze back to the man. "He - you - which is it?" Claire asked with a smirk. The whole thing was still crazy, but now it was a more familiar sort of crazy that she oddly found herself getting used to. "It might be easy for you to tell the difference, but it's hard for everyone else, including me. So..." Hmm... "He can be Lucas. I'll call you Luke. How does that sound?" That would make it infinitely easier to talk about, and possibly even make it sound less crazy.

But if each separate personality had its own name, did that make both of them more real? Probably.

Arceus this was still crazy.

He raised an eyebrow slightly. "I'm not sure how I would do that. I think things are fine as they are, though. I would worry that a great depth of emotion would interfere with my ability to perform on the field." And, quite honestly, he didn't feel as though he was missing out on much. Confusion, anger, sorrow - they all seemed so incredibly unpleasant. Why would anyone push to acquire such sensations if they could continue to exist without them?

He thought back to the scene he had awakened to, "I suppose that's not impossible, but it may be highly unlikely. From what I could tell, the cause of death was a gunshot wound at point-blank range." Lucas watched as the bird descended and stretched. It was much sturdier than it looked to carry all those weights. Claire's question brought forth the rare and elusive smirk. "Him. I have all of his memories, but he has all of the emotional responses. He's much more attached to the family than I am." Probably because he had never actually met said family.

Her suggestion elicited a slight widening of his smirk, "Ah, so he gets the proper name, does he? I see how it is." Arceus, did he just try and tell a joke? "That's fine with me, if that's what you wish to do."

Claire shrugged both shoulders, standing in front of Odette so she could continue to stroke the bird's head while she stretched her wings. "I don't know either, but the subconscious does a lot of intriguing things." Like completely suppress memories and make separate personalities.

Still crazy.

"I'm sure you could perform just as well on the field." Beside, having the emotional range of a teaspoon wasn't any fun.

"Hmm..." Her brows furrowed again, thinking on that bit of information. "That does sound sort of unlikely... But if he cared about his parents as much as you say then I don't see how he'd do it on purpose." No, an accident seemed much more likely in that case.

"Now he does, Luke," she said with a smirk. "That was going to be debatable until that little comment of yours, now he definitely gets the proper name."

"Mm..." Lucas - or Luke, apparently - disagreed with her, but he wasn't about to argue it. It wasn't as though he had any idea how tap into his alleged subconscious and de-suppress emotions, anyway. His was a realm of facts and logic, and he had neither access to nor control over much else.

"I'm not sure how it could have been accident." He considered the circumstances momentarily. "...But I suppose it's equally unlikely that it was intentional. It's slightly frustrating. I have complete control over every memory this body stores, except for that single one." It wasn't as though he could do his job any worse for lack of it, though, and so he didn't allow himself to become too irritated over the issue.

He snorted, "I suppose anything I could have come up with would have been just as creative." Not like she would have been able to explain to the easily-confused Lucas why she was suddenly calling him a completely different name anyway.

"Hmm.." She frowned, still thinking on it. If Lucas had killed his father, yet cared for the man, why would he intentionally kill him? It just didn't make any sense, yet an accident..? At thirteen anyone would obviously know what a gun is and what it does, so how did it happen? "I'm sorry. That is a bit weird, too.. Do you know all the memories he had before you?" Still crazy.

"You don't like it?" She gasped slightly and put her hand on her collarbone in mock surprise, pretending to look hurt. "Luke, I'm offended!" But then she snorted, smirking again. "But you must realize I couldn't call you something completely different from his name. At least Luke is a nickname for it and easily explained. But I suppose, if you wanted, I could call you something else," she added thoughtfully, smirking still. "Like maybe Eustace, or Osbert, or maybe Leighton..."

"I know them in the same way you might learn of events from reading a timeline, or from hearing a nutshell version second-hand. I know the basics of significant milestones and their approximate chronology, but I don't have the specific details. It's a bit strange." This coming from an alter ego who had taken control of the host body to exercise while his other half slept. Crazy was right.

"Oh yes, Leighton. A winner, for sure." He moved his hands to his hips, hooking his thumbs into his pockets. "Well, I suppose it would be rude of me to not find an equally excellent name for you, yes? Something I can call you so you know it's me talking to you." He raised a hand to his chin with a melodramatic 'hmmm.' "What do you think of Engracia, Zuzu, or Fionnuala?"
PostPosted: Wed Jan 12, 2011 2:29 pm

"Ah, well that makes sense." They were before his time, after all. Which... No, still crazy. "That does sound a bit strange." Like a person having an alter ego with his own name wasn't strange.

She couldn't help the sudden chuckle at his name suggestions, reaching her hand up to cover her obvious grin and to help stifle the chuckling. "Oh yes, Leighton, those are perfect. I'm especially fond of Fionnuala, that's definitely a keeper."

Odette peered curiously at her owner, wondering what was going on. It wasn't often the young woman actually enjoyed talking to someone so much she made noises like that. It had been quite some time since the bird had witnessed her owner act this way while talking to someone.

Luke's subtle smirk spread into an unmistakable grin, and he turned slightly. "Well, Fionnuala," that was actually really hard to pronounce without concentrating on it, "I should probably get back to work." He cast a glance back in the direction of the punching bags and dummies with which he had started, rotating his wrists in anticipation. The slight fatigue from the push-ups had long since faded; he wasn't used to being so completely cooled down so soon after beginning a workout.

Claire Fionnuala chuckled again, shaking her head slightly before pointing up towards the ceiling again. Odette cooed at her owner before awkwardly waddling forward a few steps, then launched into the air again to resume her exercising.

"Oh come on, Luke, you're no fun." Whoops. "I mean, Leighton." Why was she insisting on keeping up this little joke? This wasn't her normal behavior - but then again, it wasn't normal to meet someone else from Galactic that got caught up in the same unfortunate event she was and that she actually got along with. But, regardless, it wasn't exactly polite to say 'well this was fun but I need to go do this menial activity instead of talking to you,' but then again... she wasn't exactly sure what to talk about.

Her mind wandered to their last meeting, or more specifically before that when he was still Lucas - still crazy - and how his pokemon acted before and after. "Hey, Luke?" She started in a thoughtful tone, "does Lucas like Merry a lot better than Snow? He seemed a lot more... strict, I suppose, with Snow than he did with Merry. Do you know why that is?" Honestly she'd been curious about that ever since, because Snow seemed to be guilty only of being a curious little Charmander.

He snorted, moving towards the dummies while she thought. He wasn't adverse to continuing their talk, but he also wanted to get a bit more work done. He guessed that he was at least able to hold a conversation while training and began warming up with stretching.

He paused momentarily to raise an eyebrow when he heard mention of Merry, instinctively glancing to the shelf where he had left hers and Snow's pokeballs. "It's... complicated," he replied as he turned to face one of the padded bags, beginning with basic punches. "He doesn't like being responsible for pokemon. He was with Merry for almost ten years before he finally started to get along with her." He adjusted his stance slightly and increased his speed. "He went on a pokemon journey when he was ten. From what I gather, it didn't go very well." A right hook made contact at a poor angle, and he rubbed at his knuckles briefly before resuming.

"Really?" She said with a slight frown. What could've happened? "Do you have any idea what could've happened?" She was actually slightly envious of the fact Lucas actually had the chance to go on a pokemon adventure - she had been effectively barred from such an opportunity - but at least her childhood hadn't been entirely pokemon-less, and she couldn't help thinking back on the pokemon her mother had kept after retiring from being a coordinator. She quickly pushed those memories away, though, not wanting old feelings and emotions to surface at entirely the wrong moment.

She walked over to Zeus' treadmill to distract herself, still frowning at the thoughts that kept persistently flitting around her mind, and watched the Pikachu walk on the machine. With a slight sigh she turned the speed back up a bit to a slow jog. "Do you think he'll take that long to get along with Snow, or any other pokemon he happens to get? I certainly hope not." Despite being in two separate criminal organizations, she still couldn't bring herself to see pokemon with the sole role of 'tool.' They complied much more willingly if they liked their owners rather than obeying out of fear, or at least that was her opinion.

"And what about you?" She asked suddenly, turning back to Luke. "How do you feel about pokemon?" Probably unemotional and more responsible than Lucas - they seemed to be almost like total opposites in more than one sense.

Yep, still crazy.

He continued to step up the pace as he explained, "His starter was a Piplup. He was careless, and it was gravely wounded. He didn't know what to do, so he abandoned and it and went home." That was one of those foggy memories, one that was still there but only barely, persisting only because of the strong emotions attached to it. "It could potentially take him even longer to accept Snow. The Charmander's history said it had been assigned as a starter as well. He's strict with it because he feels that's the best way to keep it safe, but there's no way the Charmander can understand that." Explaining anything deeper than 'do that one move' to a pokemon seemed a daunting task, especially with younger ones like Snow.

He paused momentarily to think about the question, introducing kicks to his patterns when he finally spoke, "I don't have any particular attachments. I had a Metagross that I was rather fond of, but that was mainly for it's efficiency in combat." He scoffed quietly. "Merry doesn't seem to like me much, so I don't work with pokemon much anymore."
