Mind if I borrow this post and throw it on a poster board? Go for it, buddy. Might want to edit it a bit first though. Nope, your words are just fine the way they are, because I got approval to use any language/techniques I choose in my classes thanks to my school board.

Actually I think this makes a nice PSA.
There are too many assumptions with the way people treat suicide.
My son tried to kill himself in November. I've been suicidal too. A number of my friends are also bipolar and and have thought about if not attempted it at some point. Then there are those who have terminal illnesses or chronic pain. There are so many ways that life can be too painful or simply too much.
I don't think people stop to think about the irony of telling someone that suicide is selfish and that that person should keep on living and suffering just to make someone else happy.

I don't have insomnia, but I stayed up countless times with some people, getting them to talk to me about it and keeping their minds on other things by simply playing games and stuff or talking about something else.
I find that its good to ask a suicidal person questions, not always directly about their reasons (sometimes not related at all if appropriate), as long as they're not negative like "Whats the point? Why are you doing this?". Sometimes pointing them in the direction of certain songs can help bring them out of their selfdestructive mood, though you gotta be careful that the songs have the right interpretations.
This thread is great Jedi smile And my SS run the other night was to simply give some friends a distraction so they didn't feel down. Hope it worked.
