The air was becoming increasingly thick, chilled as the day grew further in to the depths of darkness. He watched as his steamy, foggy breath fled out in to the air before him, flanks being bitten by the cold. He remained still before the entrance, watching out for any weary predators that had managed to follow the scent of her blood. Luckily the white stayed eerie and lonely, just a wasteland. A shiver run from the tip of his tail to the the tips of his ears. He shook his head, flicking his head back to look at Mera. He sighed, hoping she would not feel like he was going about any funny business when she woke but, he carefully tiptoed in to a curl around her body, lowering himself to the ground. He spread out his side wings to warm her up, never letting his eyes leave the entrance one in his movement, he just knew, he had to keep her warm.

Wiggling only slightly, she settled into the added warmth of another body. Winter wasn't a time to bee to picky especially if one was as banged up as she was. Still she stirred a bit more, opening an eye to see what had added the warmth. Seeing a wing, she rolled her eye to get a bit of a better look at him. Had he been cold? She supposed it was possible that he'd gotten cold and come to share body heat. It wasn't too unheard of to share heat in the winter. Closing her eye again she settled once more, with a small yawn. "Cold?" A simple question, not that she didn't trust him. He hadn't pulled anything this far, and he'd struck her as a more of a gentleman than anything.

"I thought we could both use the warmth." He tilted his head to one side to see her more clearly, catching her eye roll to him in the same manor. He flashed her a gentle, warm smile like the warmth residing between them. He wasn't invincicble, no matter how much he and many others would like to believe with his strong, up front attitude and he too did in fact get cold. Just like everyone else but she would feel it a lot more, regardless of the material covering her. Wings were a great source of heat, he was lucky to have them to nest against his sides and to use them to help shelter those who needed them more than he did. "If you're tired, you should get some rest." He added carefully, noting the yawn she gave.

She gave a small chuckle her eyes still closed. "More warmth's always welcomed in the winter. Who knew feathers were so warm though." She rested her head back into a comfortable position. "Rest.. yes.. I think I shall... just a little longer at least..." She'd definately hear a good lecture when she finally got home, she could nearly hear her father's voice now. She'd been like most young adults and thought herself invincible... indestructible... and while she had thwarted her attackers it had come at the cost it had teaching her a big lesson. 'lessons are around every corner Merashik, you have to learn from your mistakes, pick yourself up after every fall my daughter and get back into the fight. When you have something to protect.. there's nothing you can't do.' Her father's voice echoed in her mind as she drifted further into sleep once more.

Alex nodded gently and looked down at her as she rested her head back in to position and slowly drifted back in to slumber. Now the only thing to do was wait till the morning. Which, surprisingly came quicker than he had expected. All night Alex watched the entrance, curling his wings around the mare further to shield her when the icy winds echoed through the cave and then as the first shade of orange hit the glistening white wasteland he stood, shifting to his feet in a way he hoped to be silent and not wake her. She looked peaceful, like she had needed the rest which made him smile. Perhaps the safety he had provided to her mentally had helped a little.
The silence of the morning was like a melody to his ears. The winds had died down considerably and the sun had brought a mild warmth that clung to to the air. He made his way to the border of the forest and started to pluck branches from the berry bushes. Piling them up one by one by his side. After the gathering was complete and he was certain there would be enough to feed Mera he gave a shake of his mane, to rid the leaves and twigs that had tangled in it then took the edges of the branches in his mouth and made his way back, scanning the floor for any prints. Thankfully, there was none but his own that had been printed in the snow.
He had of course been glancing back to make sure of her safety as he had gathered. He made his way back inside the cave, with clean hoofbeats and planted the berry branches by her side for when she woke. He wasn't sure if she even liked berries but it was the closet source of food he could find, to say food was scarce as most of the foilage had been stripped bare by the season.

When he got up to forage, she hadn't stirred much say for the slight shiver she made to the change from the extra body heat. Still she slept, dry blood matted to her fur and keeping some of the smaller wounds close. When he had returned, She stirred slightly once more. Her nose had picked up something other than the metallic scent of blood something that smelled liked the berries she'd once had to survive off of with her father in the more scarce months. Slowly, sleepy eyes opened and looked around to see the branches he'd left for her. Lifting her head, she nibbled at the berries, savoring their flavor and the fact that they were sustenance. She made sure to leave him a share of the berries though, after all he needed to eat too and he had gone out to get it in the first place.

"Good Morning." Alex greeted with a welcoming smile, turning his head to face her after hearing the shuffling as she moved to eat the berries he had gathered for her. He lowered back down to the ground a short distance away, tucking his wings away by his side. "Are you feeling better after resting?" He asked curiously. He was simply checking up and wondering if she would be fit enough to make the journey home today however if she couldn't he would more than gladly stay and take care of her until she was.

She returned the smile and nodded. "Yes I'm feeling better.. I'm alive which counts for a lot thanks to you. A bit sore still but I'm sure I can haul my hide home without too many complications." She chuckled and nosed a few of the branches she hadn't touched closer to him. " You should probably ea, after all it wouldn't be right for me to devour everything without knowing if you yourself had had your breakfast."

Alex laughed lightly at her words and kind offer, giving a soft nod. "I'm sure I'd be able to live without a nibble or two, but I'm glad you're feeling better." He lowered his head and carefully nipped off small pieces of the branches she had nosed over to him. "Anytime. Once you get home, just get plenty of rest and the soreness should fade not long after."

Carefully, she willed herself to stand, gritting her teeth to the pain and stiffness of muscles. "I'm sure you'll be needing to head home yourself, lest your family fears you are lost to them. I'm sure what ever mare you have waiting for you will be missing you." She gave a small smile and limped past him. She'd bare this pain till she got home and then and only then could she take the time to recover. "Maybe if we meet again it'll be under less.... awkward and life threatening circumstances." She gave a slight chuckle and a bow of her head before heading for the exit to leave.
