The soft connection of her hand against his stomach was satisfying, but also left her wanting. At this point, the snap of a bone was a craving, that satisfaction of knowing the blow had been well-wrought. Curbing her desire, she continued to fight without bloodthirst. She could see Cais was tiring as well, and it renewed her energy enough to try and make it this last leg.
Yue brought her forearm up and deflected the blow. It stung, but it was nothing she couldn't manage. For a moment, when Cais' eyes locked with hers, she felt something other than his hatred. Had his anger faded? Had he understood why it was that she would fight for not only her honour, but the honour of those she loved? Even the ones fighting for "the other side." Sakn was her dear friend, as Jianyu was close to her. There was no reason to fight if not to protect what she loved, what she cared for.
It hadn't always been that way. Once, Yue Lao would have fought only for herself. She would never have lifted a finger. Now, she was devoted to keeping her loved ones safe. The thought made her laugh. I have loved ones... she thought to herself. Perhaps she was doing her othermother proud, in admitting that.
Yue Lao, in a fluid motion, swept out with her kick towards his ankles and drove her elbow against his chest. One day, perhaps they would have a rematch; a new reason to fight. Yue wondered who would win, if it was more even.

In that second before the blow Cais could recall what began the battle. Talk of him, that man... but more than that, Cais's own cause, own reason for fighting. It had been her talk of a challenge against him. It had always been a key point to growing up that his father had taught him that if someone challenges against you that you must accept, you must honor the challenge. Had it been that? Was that even an admirable drive? She had done it in the shop which was part of the family household. Was that it?
His mind swirled. Perhaps it was convoluted, but he stood by his decision. With two quick motions the young Lunarian found himself flat on his back, in terrible pain. He gasped for air but it had been knocked out of him, he stared up at her, clutching his chest. There was something about her eyes when he looked on her, like she understood his admiration, though they were part of two separate realms.
Resting his head back Cais looked towards the sky. The pain was greater than he had anticipated the the fall had jarred him. What was this feeling? It wasn't as his others battle, no, this felt... better than that. Perhaps it was the feeling of a great battle that had taken place or even the thought of what was to come. He attempted to move his mouth to speak to her but felt his jaw lock up as a darkness crept over his sight and the sky above him began to dim. I can't stay awake. Leave it to her to knock me out. he thought, coughing slightly as his breath finally caught up to him, the pain still ringing through his head. I guess there's always next time, and then... I won't make the same mistakes...
Cais's body grew limp as he passed out. His head was throbbing and he lay on the soft ground. When he awoke he would be alright, but for now his body had been forced into the rest he needed. The pain would remain for days to come but the lessons of battle learned would last much longer.
