Tamo shrugged his little shoulders, trotting to keep up with Airashi. "I can fish if the water is shallow enough. Most water is too deep or fast for me. Stuff that hides in the soil at the edge of water is easier to catch." Like that one day after the rains. There'd been crawfish everywhere! Delicious, if you could get them without being pinched.

Airashi had to agree with him. Fishing would be difficult for a kit if the water wasn't shallow enough. He would have to go down the river, where there were large stones. It was a shallow pool where the kit would be able to fish without worrying about drowning.
He knew the perfect place, he'd been there himself when he was a little kit. He remembered well because his mother had given him a huge lector for leaving the keep without telling her. Farah worried all the time about her kits, even though he wasn't one anymore. Shaking his head of the memory he looked back at the kit following him now. They had been walking in silence the past ten minutes and it didn't seem to phase him, which suited Aira just fine. He wasn't much of a talker himself and generally preferred the quiet.
After another five minutes they reached the edge of the shore leading to the pool. He smiled, it was just as he remembered it. "You're a little bigger then i was at your age...the water should cover about three quarters of your body...We'll fish here." He gestured with his head.

Tamo nodded and look down in the water. Close to the shallows he could see some tiny fish, and a handful of larger fish that might make for a decent mouthful. He stepped lightly into the shallower end, submerging his bushy tail and letting the light current pull at it. He knew the bright colors usually attracted attention, and hoped it would make the smaller fish swim closer.

Airashi submerged himself in as much water as he could, taking care not to make any sudden movements or splashing. The last thing he wanted to do was disturb all the fish. He stared down at the fish, staying rigid. he waited for the fish to be accustomed to him standing there, then when they least accepted it he flung two fish onto the shore.
Smirking, he looked over his shoulder to see how the kit was trying.

Needless to say Tamo's method of fishing was......unique. Putting it in nice terms. Bizarre might have been more apt. Anyone coming across the orange kit now, laying half-submerged in the water, jaws gaping open and under the water with only his nose bring him air just might have thought he cracked his skull a time or two.
The method seemed to have some sort of logic behind it though. While fish weren't swimming up to inspect the inside of his mouth yet a couple small ones were nibbling at the fur at the edge of his lips, cleaning away any remains of the mouse and berry meal he'd had earlier.

Airashi gaped at the kit astounded. what kind of technique was that? He gave the small kit a funny look, then couldn't help but burst out laughing. He knew that he was scaring away all the fishes, but he couldn't help it. The picture the kit was creating was just too darn hilarious! He looked like a piraƱa waiting for a fish to just swim into his mouth.
"What are you doing Tamotsu?" He asked, making sure to keep his voice low, controlling himself from laughing any further. It was bad enough that he had scared away all his fish, he didn't want to do the same to the kit.

Tamo really wanted to answer, but to do that he'd have to move. And to move would mean to scare away the fish that he'd patiently sat and waited for to come to him. Finally he attempted a quick sideways snap. Just a touch too slow, his teeth barely grazed the tail of the fish.
He sighed and stood up. "It's what those big water lizards do. I've only seen 'em once before, and then I left the area, but they just wait under the water 'til something comes swimming up to their mouths. I must not be very good at it yet," he mused, wondering if maybe going a little deeper in the water would tempt more of the bigger fish.

"You're a strange kid....but your funny...." Airashi walked over to the shore and sat down with his two fish. They were about medium size so they would do for a descent meal. And he was intrigued to see the kid work his magic on the fish. He was right, it seemed to be working but the kit had been to anxious to snap his jaw.
"Try it again....This time wait till the fish are in your mouth to move..." He cocked his head to the side as he watched.

Tamo shrugged. "I think you startled them, and it's rude to leave a question unanswered if it's a reasonable question." He wadded a little further into the waters, until they nearly covered his back. The current pulled a little stronger hear, but he still managed to keep his foot. Tamo opened up his mouth and figured he'd give it one more shot.
((You have no idea how absolutely boring it is to me that fox always catch fish. Just a quick swipe and they're suddenly on the bank and caught. No way would a wild animal have that kind of consistant successful. It's like a Mary Sue character issue to me. So I wanted Tamo to have a more realistic success rate.))

(i apologize, i didn't even realize i was doing it...I did not mean to be boring. I will make more of an effort to be more realistic in the future.)
Aira looked toward the water. He probably did startle the fish when he had his laughing bout. He'd have to apologize for that later, right now he didn't want to distract the kid from his fishing. The last thing he wanted to do was cause him to lose more fish. It was obvious that Tamo knew how to take care of himself, and he didn't need Aira around to teach him how to fish. But he decided to stick around, even if the kit would feed himself there were still larger predators out there that would love to eat him.
Looking down at the fish by his paws, he debated on whether or not to go back and do more fishing. It was enough for him, but if the kit didn't bring anything back then they both be left hungry. Sighing softly he stood up and wadded over to the bank of the small pool of water.

((Oh no no! Wasn't lecturing you XD I was just explaining the reasons for Tamo's misses.))
Tamo snapped. He missed a big fish, but a couple small ones that had been nibbling at his teeth weren't so lucky. It wasn't much more than a mouthful, but it was better than nothing.
Tamo looked sheepishly up at Airashi. "Guess fishing just isn't my thing," he said, looking at the other fish that swirled in a deceptively lazy fashion around the foxes.

"I think you're doing fine....the only way you can get better is by practicing...." He wadded in the water in time to the current, "I was lucky to catch those two fish before as easily as i did." He spoke quietly and to the point, saying no more then needed to be said.
Deciding to change tactics, he extended his paw facing up in the water. Slowly he waited for his core temperature to equate to the water, fish naturally avoided anything that radiates heat. Then once his leg was the temperature of the water fish begun to swim around him, mistaking him for another rock.
After accomplishing that, Airashi simply waited for the right moment to strike.

Tamo waded out of the water and shook himself off so that his bright orange fur was puffing in every direction. He could always stand to catch a bit more food, but the standing still in cold, flowing water was starting to make his body ache.
He noticed Airashi was concentrating on the water, so rather than call out and disturb him he settled down and began to groom his fur.

Airashi continued to focus on the fish that was swimming around his extended paw. The fish seemed to be drawn to his bright colored spots, which was good for him. It drew more fish toward him.
Luck apparently wasn't on his side that time however, because the minute he unleashed his claws the fish swam away fast. "Hm...." He sighed heavily. Apparently he would have to stick with the two fish. "Hey Tamo....." He climbed out of the water, "Why don't you eat one of those fish...It'll help you warm up."

Tamo chuckled. "Oh, I couldn't eat more than half of one of those! I had that mouse and those berries you gave me, and I got maybe two of those bitty fish that like to nibble at your feet." He gave Airashi a winning smile though, and took him up on his offer to share the meal of fish. He picked the smaller one and proceeded to much on it, starting at the head and slowly moving towards the middle.
