Sorry might not fix things, but it at least showed that Ladon was contrite. Paris could tell that he was honest in his apology at least. He sure sounded torn up about it. Paris could cut him some slack, especially when a fuller version of the story began to come to light. He was surprised to hear that Ladon had gotten into some sort of a fight. Ladon didn't seem the type to get involved in those sorts of things. Of course, whoever it had been that had taken out his eye seemed to have started it, at least from what Ladon was telling him.

Well, Ladon had apparently said something that had ticked the guy off, but was that really an excuse to go for Ladon's eye like that? It sounded kind of extreme. Talk about anger issues...

"It's okay," he finally said, shrugging awkwardly, still feeling a bit uncomfortable. "Thanks for telling me now, although I wouldn't mind asking around for you. I can take care of myself. I mean, you know the kind of guys I go to school with. I have to know how to watch my back around some of them. But I'll drop it if it's really that important for me to stay out of it." If Ladon didn't want to screw things up for him, then he didn't want to screw things up for Ladon, which he might end up doing if the guy who'd hurt his eye found out Ladon had squealed and had people searching around.

What a huge mess this had turned out to be...

Paris sighed heavily, trying to get over it and put all this behind him. He looked at Ladon and frowned sadly, hoping this didn't ruin things for them, or, make things awkward in the future. Slowly, he took another step forward and slipped his arms around Ladon's neck, hesitantly hugging him, not all that sure Ladon would appreciate the invasion of space. "Let's just forget about it, okay, Lady?"

Ladon bended down under the weight of the arm around his neck, and looked up, honesty surprised by the single act of camaraderie. It wasn't just that, but a unspoken way of saying that things were okay enough between them to stick together, at least as they walked out of here, but he knew that everything wasn't peachy between them. He just punched their friendship in the gut, and now he had to make up for it. That would be the hard part. Balancing enough truth to give Paris between the lies he had to say to protect his second life. But…he'd manage. He had to. The scare of breaking whatever he and Paris had as a friendship had put things into perspective. One was that he wasn't that great of a liar that he thought, and that he wasn't going to have any friends if he kept making such boldfaced lies.

Smiling, he nodded. "Yeah. Let's get out of here. We're too good for this school anyways." They turned together, and headed back the way they came.

He hoped Ladon didn't mind the hug. He didn't seem to, or at least he didn't immediately push him away, which was as good a sign as any to Paris. He felt like crap and he just wanted someone to lean on for a little while. Physical contact -- of any kind -- was comforting to Paris. He liked being touched and held, he liked people rubbing his back or petting his hair. He didn't expect Ladon to do much of that, but just a hug -- just a simple hug -- would be enough until he could find someone to give him what he needed, to make him feel that he was worth something, even if he'd never see that someone again. For that brief moment in time he would at least be the best thing that someone had ever set their eyes on.

Paris laughed quietly at Ladon's comment. "Or maybe we're just not good enough," he said and allowed himself to be ushered out.

He broke the loop his arms had made around Ladon's neck, but kept an arm around his shoulders as they left, staying close, almost glued to his side, hoping that this was it, that they wouldn't have situations like this any more, because he couldn't handle the lying, couldn't really process how it made him feel. He didn't usually feel much of anything for people -- maybe annoyance, maybe anger, maybe a tiny bit of affection here and there, but never anything like this. He hoped that Ladon had made his mistake and learned from it and would be honest with him from this moment forward.

Or maybe Paris was just deluding himself. He was good at that.
