The gig went along swimmingly. They took the obligatory break, in which Dion and Dakota continued talking about the kids they'd adopt and where they would sleep and all of that. So needless to say, both of them were feeling pretty good with being picked. At the same time, both were scared shitless of being first time fathers.
They were on the road so much, and hardly ever in the same spot twice. Which meant they'd probably have to become a stationary group until the kids were a bit older, depending on the age they got.
It made the black man's head hurt severely to think of children. And with Christmas right around the corner, maybe it would be alright to not finish the tour. They all kind of needed a break from each other. Especially Darin. He was getting anxious to see his grandparents again.
So, here they were at a meeting before they traveled to get the kids. "...I think we should all split for the holidays. Meet up after the first of the year to finish the tour... Maybe the kids would be situated better, too.

Dakota sighed, and leaned back in his chair. His eyes closed as he thought on what Dion had just said.
"I think that might be a good idea... but with a stipulation." He opened his eyes and glanced across the table. "NO ONE can fault the choices we make while we're separated." Then looked at Dion. "Or who we choose to stay with."
Again, he closed his eyes, and leaned his head back, propping his legs on the table. "If everyone's okay with Dion and I sticking together. After all - I don't have a guardian at all. Remember?"
David nodded, and crossed his arms. "Agreed. I've been planning on having a long chat with Darin as it is. I'll call the manager and let him know what we're doing. YOU TWO..." Pointedly, he glanced in Dion and Dakota's direction. "Are going to be doing something after we finish up here, yeah?"

"What'd I do this time?" Darin whined, nearly interrupting the speaker. Why did HE always have to have a talk? It wasn't his fault he was totally awesome and the others didn't see it that way.
The whole not faulting anybody for things over the seperation sat uneasy with the bassist. Something about those words held a promise; good or bad, he wasn't sure just yet. With a sigh, Dion nodded and pushed hid dreads out of his face. "Yeah.. We got things to do. Maybe you can get that stick out of Darin's a** over the break." He snorted at that and looked to Dakota, then Darin and then back at David.
"Let's finish cleaning up and get on the road."

David nodded, and rose, starting to clean up. "Darin and I will take care of the cleanup - You two go on ahead. Touch base tonight, and let us know how everything went, wherever you're going. And be safe."
He waved away Dakota's protests. "Go on! It's not like we can't pack up by ourselves, right Darin?"
After that, the young guitarist sighed, and started off out the door. "Alright... let's go, Dion. They'll take care of things. Do you know how to get here?"
He drew the paper out of his shirt pocket, and pointed to the address. "We should take the van..."

Dion took the paper from him and examined it. "I think we played a gig near there once... I remember a bit.." Was all he said before he grabbed his bags, coat and keys. They had been planning on a motel tonight, but it'd just be Dion and Kota, so the van was good enough.
Though, none of them really liked the van anymore. Especially if they had to drive it in the rain.
He loaded them both up, made sure Dakota had his meds ready at the right time and started off toward the place, muttering under his breath.

The boy was mostly quiet on the ride.. until they got onto the highway. Only then did he finally speak up about what was on his mind.
"... I didn't mean to make you upset." he said. "About the condition I made. It's just that... I KNOW Darin and David are planning on getting together... and even if they don't, they're going to. And if they feel like they have to HIDE it.... It might not be... you know - all that comfortable coming back."

"It didn't... upset me. It unsettled me. I didn't know what you were talking about." Truth was, he was slowly thinking about getting together with the younger one here. He just had to get past his protective nature to do it, and it wasn't going to be easy at all. Reaching a hand out to him, he patted Dakota's thigh.
Stretching his arms out a minute, he turned, following the highway and looked every which way before switching lanes. It wasn't raining, but he was still a paranoid b*****d about driving on the highway in this van. Not fond memories.

Dakota nodded, and looked out the window, head resting against the back of the passenger's side seat. The back was still furnished and stuff - it was like an RV now - not nearly so large, but still a fair amount of room back there.
"I never really thought about what it would be like to be a dad. Being as I never hair one, I don't know what to expect. How could I? I'm afraid I'm going to screw this up, Dion..."

"We're picking up books, 'kota. Don't sweat it so much. There's an instinct in all of us that make us parents. Good or bad depends on the teachings..." At least, that's what he belived. So if they got the books, studied them, and used them like that, then everything would go smoothly.
He took a turn off this interstate and on to the next, biting down on his lip. "..You know.... ....have... you thought of... dating?"

"Dating?" He blinked, looked over at Dion, then back again out the window. "There's only one person I'd consider dating, and they'd probably think they're way too old for me." He chuckled, and shook his head. "Plus... I don't even know if I'm their type."
His fingers curled against the fabric of his slacks. A few tears trailed down his cheek as the thought of that person crossed his mind. That person that was sitting right next to him, and didn't even know that he was attracted to him.

Dion swallowed at that and looked straight out to the street for a while. He said nothing. He was trying to think of something to say that didn't make him sound.. .....needy. Finally, the bassist felt comfortable enough to look over to Dakota and he saw the tears and his chest grew tighter.
Reaching out, he kept an eye on the road while he dried up the tears on the others face. The age difference was a key element in why he didn't want to get involved. He wanted to settle down, and Dakota was just starting out. "Hey.... Hey, what's wrong?" He whispered, pulling off at a rest stop. Now he wouldn't have to worry about other cars.

"I'm just so, so close to the person... and they don't even know it." he said, biting his lip. "It's terrible for me to be so... needy."
Another soft sigh. "Maybe getting a child will... No - I can't, won't, use them like that. That's terrible. I'll just have to put up with it the best I can... "
He glanced over toward the restaurant here, IHOF. ... International House of Fish. "Feel like Fish N' Chips, Dion?" he asked, quietly. "I could go for some shrimp."

That was it. Dion was at his breaking point with his over protective side. The need to show Dakota just how he felt was over powering. Yes, they had to get back on the road and soon, to get the kids, but damn it! He unbuckled himself and grabbed 'kota by the shirt and pressed their lips together. His full, slightly chapped lips worked over the smaller one's as his hands came up from that shirt to those cheeks, holding him in the kiss gently.

Dakota melted into the kiss, and returned it tenfold. His hands found Dion's lower back as he pressed into the other as though he were going to melt away any moment. When the kiss was done, he pulled back, cheeks red as cherries, and swallowed. "W... we should... get back on the road.." he squeaked. The fact that he squeaked rather than just SAID that phrase... should have been enough to tell Dion all he needed to know about that kiss.
They were on the road for another two hours, and Dakota was asleep by the time they got to that place. Asleep, peaceful, with his head resting against the window, and his shirt having slid down past his shoulder, revealing a nice expanse of skin that followed his vein. And Dakota had thin enough - and fair enough - skin to SEE those veins as they crept up his neck.

Dion had two hours to think about what he did. Changed their friendship beyond the point of no return. If things went sour, their friendship went sour. turning off the van once outside the lab, the tall black man sighed again and looked to Dakota. So pale... Still.. He had to wake up. Taking a risk, Dion moved again to press his lips against that vein lined neck. "Wake up.."
