As Alex took her hand, he looked at the red lily next to her face, how it complemented her dark hair and her sparkling emerald eyes, as well as matched the color of her dress. Leading her up to the roof, he stopped just before walking out, seeing that it was covered in snow. He stared at the snow, waved his free hand, and made a path to the edge of the roof. He walked alongside her, the path just big enough to fit the both of them side by side. Reaching the edge, he stopped and stared out at the brightly lit city, his sunglasses twinkling in the light. He turned to Rae, took off his sunglasses, letting his deep ruby eyes stare into her sparkling emerald eyes. He smiled and said, "I'm going to show you... something that humans only dream of... Hold on tightly to my hands, don't let your gaze drift from my eyes until I say so." He grasped her unbelievably delicate hands tightly, but not roughly, and smiled.
As he did this, and Rae grasped his hands tightly back, he began to use his powers. Unlike before, there was no darkness, no fog, nothing, and if Rae did as he said, she would be in for the surprise of her life in a few moments. As the two of them stood in silence, there was a faint breeze, and if one was a very close observer, would've noticed a shift in the direction and the brightness of the lights. After a a minute or so, Alex said, "Now, it's absolutely imperative that you trust me, and that you don't doubt me. If you do, I want you to look down, and tell me what you see." If Rae did, she would look down to see the brightly lit streets of the city, and the fact that the two of them had indeed flown from the top of her apartment to the top of the tallest building in the city. Alex's heel rested on the pointed antenna at the top, while Rae hovered over nothing but air.
Smiling, Alex said, "Humans have forever wanted to fly without the need for machines, and I assure you... I have shown no other this power. You, are the first one, who has ever seen something like this." The two of them blended into the night sky, there were no stars so close to the city, so even then, no one would be able to detect the two figures hovering at the top of the world. Smiling as he watched her reactions, Alex let go of one hand, then both, so Rae was now floating on her own. He stared at her and said, "Don't worry, I've transferred some of my ability to you. You won't fall as long as I'm alive... in a manner of speaking." He walked off the point of the building and was now walking on what felt like marble floor, but was actually thin air.

Rae looked into Alex's eyes. Where most people were disturbed by the colour of his eyes, Rae liked it. It was like being lost in a pair of rubies, passionate and deep. She began to panic slightly as Alex led her to the edge of the roof, and kept a death grip on his hands when he offered them to her. His hands were much bigger than hers, and keeping her eyes locked on his helped her to feel safer.
Rae had been focusing so hard on not removing her gaze from Alex's, she'd forgotten to breathe. At Alex's request however, she looked down, and instantly regretted it. They were floating above the tallest tower in the city, the many lights and sounds miles below them, the night sky stretching overhead. Rae had the mad urge to run to him and wrap her arms around him to make sure she didn't fall, but she was terrified of letting go of his hands and falling to her death.
Her pulse raised as the adrenaline kicked in, making her heart beat like a hummingbirds. Rae trusted Alex with her life, but when he let go of her hands, she had to bite back a scream. She had been expecting to fall to her death, and was greatly relieved when she didn't. "Don't worry." Rae repeated nervously. "Alex. This is amazing, but I felt a lot better when you were touching me." She said, pleading with him with her eyes. She was too afraid to move anything else, her heart hammering in her throat.
The view of the city from this high was made all the better as Alex`s words sunk in. "You mean to tell me I'm the first human you've shown this too? You've never done this with anyone else before?" she asked, the wonder and awe she was experiencing aparent in her voice. Carefully, Rae tested her ability to break eye contact with Alex. Her inner voice was screaming at her not to be stupid, but there was no way she could pass this up. If she did, she would regret it until she was an old, wrinkled lady. The view really was breathtaking. Rae felt like she could see to the edge of the world, the city lights below sparkling like diamonds.
She turned around in a full circle, the dress puffing out a bit as she turned, her emerald green eyes lighting with joy and a smile lighting her face. "This is amazing, Alex. Really." she said quietly, "Thank you." Rae walked carefully back to Alex standing as close as their "friendship" barrier would allow her. Rae laughed - a little nervously - as a strand of hair fell into her face. "My heart is beating a mile a minute." She reached for Alex's hand and placed it horizontally, just above her heart. "Feel it?" She asked, looking into his ruby red eyes.

Alex's smile grew as Rae asked him whether or not she was the first one he had ever done this with. He chuckled and said, "I promise you, you are the first one I've ever shared this with. Because... well... I suppose it can wait until after dinner..." He stared at her as she twirled on thin air, her beautiful dress blowing out with the wind. As she walked carefully back to him, he saw the smile on her face and it made him even happier that he had shown her this. She stood close to him and laughed nervously, grabbing his hand she put it lightly over her heart. Alex was reluctant at first, but he relaxed somewhat when she looked into his eyes. He felt the sudden urge to bite her, pulled his hand away and turned from her. He faced away from her and tried to fight back his instincts. He spoke to her over his shoulder, "We can't... I... Please Rae... I don't want to hurt you... Remember what I am..." He calmed himself down, looked at her, with a terribly sad expression on his face, and smiled, but the sadness was still certainly visible beneath it.
He slowly and carefully lowered them to the ground, thanks to a bit of a magic spell, no one saw them when they reached street level. They were just outside the restaurant, and it was 8:29 on the dot. Leading her inside, he approached the waiter and said, "Dragos, table for two." The waiter motioned for them to follow him and he seated them at a small two person table with beautiful decorations. The Avanti Ristorante was the nicest restaurant in town, and only people who could shell out the cash and play the role of importance could get a table. The waiter set menus on the table and Alex ordered himself a bottle of their finest red wine. Looking over the menu, Alex clicked his tongue quietly as he tried to decide what he should have. Looking up at Rae, he said, "Try to stay away from anything that has garlic in it. I'm heavily allergic to it." He chuckled slightly as he looked through the menu again, and decided on what he was going to have. He alerted the waiter to this fact and told him what he wanted. Alex's order consisted mainly of things he could drench in blood and not have anyone be the wiser, he also told the waiter that the chef was not to put any garlic in his food. The waiter then turned to Rae, waiting for her order.

Rae saw the pained expression on Alex's face and instantly regretted her impulsiveness. "I...I didn't mean to...Alex, I...I'm sorry." Rae searched his face, and when he attempted a smile, she knew he had forgiven her. Rae smiled a small smile of her own back at him, and as he lowered them to street level, she made herself a promise. She would try her best not to make things any more difficult for Alex than they absolutely had to be.
Rae gasped as they landed infront of the resturaunt, the Avanti Resturaunte. Alex lead her inside, the music the band was playing greeting them at the door, a hand placed lightly on the small of her back. She had to concentrate on moving one foot in front of the other and not on the way her body seemed to sing at his touch. She smiled nervously as her chair was pulled out for her, she smoothed her dress and crossed her ankles as she'd seen those women in the movies do. The Avanti Restorante was the nicest resturaunt in town, and Rae was suprised Alex had been able to get a table so quickly. But, then again, maybe she wasn't. Alex could be quite charming and very persuasive when he wanted to be. The waiter dropped off the menus, and Rae had to cough to hide her surprise. There was no way she'd ever be able to afford this resturaunt on her own. She shot a panicked look at Alex as the waiter returned with the bottle of wine Alex had requested to take their orders. A meal here was half of her monthly rent payment! "Well, if I'm going to pay this much, I might as well enjoy it." she thought to herself.
Rae smiled up at the waiter. "I'll have a steak please. Medium rare. And no garlic for me either, please." she said as she handed the waiter back her menu. He looked her over appreciatively before pouring them each a glass of wine, but looked away quickly when Rae caught him looking. The waiter bowed, actually bowed, and then beat a hasty retreat, promising their orders shortly. Rae raised an arched eyebrow at Alex, an amused smile playing on her lips. "This is beautiful, Alex, thank you." Rae said as she tucked a loose strand of hair back into place. "So, what would you like to talk about?" She asked, taking a sip of the red wine, looking up at him from under her lashes. The wine was lush, and tasted delicious. She'd have to be careful, or she'd end up drunk. Not exactly the best impression to leave Alex with. Rae smiled as she tried to picture Alex taking care of her while she was intoxicated as she waited for his answer.

Alex looked at Rae as he swirled the wine in his hand, he smiled at her compliment, and thought for a moment. What was there to talk about? they knew each other fairly well, and had been working together for 3 years. He figured it'd be easier to start with the basics, saying, "Well. I figure we could talk a bit about ourselves that we each don't know. For example, I'm actually 407 turning 408 next month. Things like that." Alex smiled at Rae, not quite sure what to expect.
=====An hour later=====
"...So, I'm holding the rope, trying not to let the chandelier fall, and the troll woman is just kicking me in the face trying to get me to let go of her leg and fall down, with the chandelier. Now, bear in mind, that this woman is wearing a tutu, a troll woman, in a tutu!" Alex made small motions of himself at an odd angle with his hand and chuckled; he and Rae were having a good time at dinner he thought. He set his hands back on the table and said, "That's how I got a spotlight in a Broadway play..." He smiled over at Rae, and drank the last bit of his wine. The food had been excellent, and the wine was fantastic. Alex called the waiter over and asked for the check. A few moments later, the waiter came back and handed him the check. Looking down, Alex saw the price and smiled, it was cheaper than he thought it was going to be. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet. He put four $100 bills down on the table and whispered to the waiter, "One hundred for the chef, two hundred for the meal and one hundred for yourself. The service was excellent tonight." Standing, he walked over to Rae and extended a hand to help her up from her chair.
As the two of them exited the restaurant, Alex noticed how cold it had gotten, looking to Rae, he removed his jacket and put it over her shoulders, it easily covering her, due to its size. Looking up at the sky, Alex noticed the lack of stars, as he always did when he looked up at the sky. The sun was a star, yes, but it hurt him, the stars at night were too far away too be of any danger too him, and he always found them beautiful. He wrapped and arm around Rae and said, "Walk with me, I have another something to show you." He walked with her, down the streets, snow now fresh on the ground, as it had snowed lightly while they were eating.
The waterfront wasn't very far, they only walked a few blocks before reaching Alex's destination. Walking over to a small bench on the edge of the water, Alex waved his hand and the bench had all of it's snow removed, and was now dry to the touch. Sitting down, he said, "Remember earlier when I asked you about the stars, and you said you wished you could see them from here? Well..." Alex pointed his free arm up and waved his hand, the clouds and smog over the city dissipated and above them, the stars shone down. Twinkling brightly, the stars were not an illusion, Alex had pushed much of the lower atmosphere aside and allowed the stars to shine brightly down onto them. Alex smiled and looked up into the sky, saying, "That's what they're supposed to look like. See how beautiful they are? If they wouldn't kill me if they were closer..." He made his hand close, as though he were catching on in it, putting his hand down to his lap and opening it, a small white light, that looked like a star, rose from his hand and extended its light into ropes. The ropes raised above the center of the light and met, the small star-like object now resembled a necklace. Alex reached his hand out and touched the light, which solidified in a dark amethyst gem, inside a golden frame, with thin gold links that would fasten behind the wearer's head. He reached up and gently grabbed the necklace out of the air by the links and turned to Rae, the links now separated. He smiled and gently wrapped the necklace around her head, fastening it gently under her hair. He sat back, looking her over, saying, "It looks beautiful on you." He smiled and stared at her for a few moments, looking directly into her eyes.

Rae laughed at his ridiculous broadway story, a little louder than was absolutely necessary due to the two glasses of wine she had had. When Alex called the waiter over for the check, Rae had to keep her eyes from popping out of her head. $400 for one meal?! She nearly died, but before she could protest, Alex was gently helping her up from her chair and guiding her out the door, a hand on the small of her back again.
The temperature had dropped while they were eating, and Rae shivered slightly as they walked. Alex noticed, and she was greatful when her hung his jacket over her shoulders. It was warm, and smelled of him, which made Rae smile. The cold weather helped to clear her head. Walking through the city streets at night with Alex wasn't something they got to do together often. On any regular night, they would normally be running, either to a fight or away from the scene, sirens blaring behind them.
Alex lead her to the waterfront and cleared a bench for the two of them. They sat down together, Alex clearing the night sky so that Rae could see the stars. She gasped in surprised delight, her hand flying to her heart. Rae looked up, staring in awe at the sight before her. If she ever got the chance to get out of the city, she was going to live in the country, with a house under the stars. Alex caught her attention when he reached for the stars and seemed to pluck one out of the sky. Rae gasped and watched as the star changed into an amethyst necklace. "How did he know?" she thought to herself.
Rae held her breath as Alex fastened the necklace, the jewel hanging down just above the top of her dress. "Alex," she breathed, the reflection of the amethyst shining in her eyes. Rae fingered the jewel, then set it back down delicately and looked up into Alex's crimson eyes, tears glistening in her emerald ones. She couldn't force any other words from her throat. His name hung between the two of them, all the thanks she could manage. She continued to look into his eyes, and felt her heart beat beneath the necklace.
Rae had moved closer to Alex so that he could fasten the chain and now she was close enough that there was only an inch of space seperating them. Her heart pounding, Rae moved very slowly, closing the distance between them. She touched her lips lightly to his, waiting to see if she had pushed him too far, and praying that she hadn't, closing her eyes as her lips met his.

Alex was surprised when Rae had kissed her, but that's not saying he didn't enjoy it, in fact, he kissed back. Lowering his arms from the clasps on her necklace, he pulled her closed to him and his tongue entered her mouth. His fangs grew, which made maneuverability difficult, but he managed to explore her mouth with his tongue, without hurting her or himself. As the two of them kissed, Alex thought to himself, "She can't be... but I'm a... she tastes magnificent... I wonder what... her blood would taste like... No, I can't do that... she'd never forgive me..." While they were kissing, Alex hugged her tightly to him and teleported to his apartment. Continuing to kiss her, only vaguely aware of his new surroundings, he somehow noticed that they were in his bedroom and were facing the bed. He slipped his jacket off of her and onto the floor, backed up and fell onto the bed, holding her close to him, still kissing. Remembering that humans need air every once in a while, he released their kiss and said, "Rae..." It was as far as he got before he pressed his lips to hers once again.

The next morning, Rae awoke in Alex's arms. She was a little disoriented at first, wondering why it was so dark in her room when she remembered – they were sleeping in Alex's coffin. Through the coffin, Rae could hear her cell phone ringing and buzzing on the dresser. Ring, buzz, ring, buzz, ring
”Oh s**t” Rae thought, carefully untangling herself from Alex and gently pushing on the lid of the coffin. She was able to get it open, and with some careful maneuvering, she was able to climb out without hurting herself, Alex or the coffin.
Rae ran, still naked, to the dresser, just as her voice mail clicked on. “Rae baby, it's Jess. Did you forget about our beach day today? Well surprise, sunshine, we'll be there in two minutes. You better be ready to go or be prepared for a rude wake up call!” Rae paled as the phone went dead.
“Alex!” Rae called, panicky. She ran to the over to the other side of the room, jumping over the bed and pulling her heavy curtains closed so the light wouldn't hurt Alex. "Alex!” she called again, scrambling back over the bed and trying to grab her bikini and something to wear, but she dropped everything onto the floor as there was a knock on the door. ”Rae darling! Wakey wakey! It's beach day baby!” Jess called impatiently.
”Oh s**t.”

Alex awoke to the sound of Rae scrambling around the room. He sat up just as she closed the curtains and got up out of the coffin. Yawning and stretching, he looked to Rae who was looking for something in her dresser. He heard a knock at the door and snapped his fingers, conjuring pants around his lower body. Blinking a bit, he cleared his vision and headed for the door. Snapping his fingers, he conjured himself a glass of blood, which looked like wine, and took a sip while opening the door.
He opened the door, still shirtless, his perfectly chiseled upper body showing, as he looked out the doorway into the faces of three women, a blond, a brunette, and a redhead. All three looked extra surprised to see him, their eyes wide in amazement. He cracked his neck and took another sip from his glass, leaned against the door frame and said, "Ladies. Do you know what time it is? I seem to have misplaced my watch and Rae seems to be concentrating on something else right now." He turned his head to see Rae fold a towel over herself, her necklace still glistening in what little light there was and he smiled at her.
Turning back to the girls on the other side of the door, he smiled, his fangs not visible at all, and said, "The beach... hmmmm... Would you ladies mind if I accompanied you? I'd rather not leave Rae's side." He spoke with his English accent showing slightly. Alex went through great lengths to hide his country of origin, Romania, he stayed for a long time in England, where he perfected that accent before moving to America. He smiled at the girls, waiting for an answer.

Rae smiled sheepishly and waved halfheartedly at her friends, who peeked around the door, looking for her, to Alex, and back to her again. Jess, the blonde, winked at Rae and ushered the other girls out of the doorway.
Turning back around, she smiled at Alex. ”Of course you can come with us, darling. We'll just go wait in the car, give you and Rae a minute to, erm, get dressed.” she flashed Alex a big grin after looking home over appreciatively once more, and shot Rae a look that said “You've got some explaining to do.” Before shutting the door behind her.
Rae sank onto the bed and put her head in her hands. “Oh,” she groaned, ”I'm never going to hear the end of this...” She stood again, and crossed the room to hug Alex again, towel forgotten. ”I hope you know what you're getting yourself into, love.' She kissed him gently, nipping at his bottom lip before turning and walking back to her room, shaking her head and muttering ”Better get this over with.”
She opened her drawers and pulled out a small travel bag, putting a brush, some some screen and a change of clothes into the bag. Rae closed it up, then pulled out a black bikini and a pair of jean short shorts. She changed quickly and slung her bag over her shoulder. Facing Alex, she asked ”How do I look?' a coy smile playing on her lips.

Alex stared at the place the girls had been for a few moments after they shut the door. He turned and heard Rae groan, the walk over and kiss him. Kissing back, he walked to the kitchen as Rae got dressed and opened the fridge. Taking the box of strawberries out, he ate two before snapping his fingers again. A small cooler appeared on the kitchen counter next to him, he opened it and smiled when he saw that there was already a bottle of red wine inside, vintage 1863, he was going to enjoy this day at the beach, whether he remembered it or not. Turning to look at Rae, he smiled as he appraised her outfit. He answered her question with a chuckle saying, "Well, not as nice as you did last night, but certainly dressed for the occasion. Now... how do I look?" Snapping his fingers, his clothes returned to his body, this particular outfit consisting of his normal attire, plus a pair of white gloves and a large wide brimmed hat, for keeping the sun away from him. He turned back to the cooler and set the strawberries inside, next to the wine. Picking the cooler up, he took his sunglasses out of his coat pocket and put them on, grinning, his fangs showing now.
Pausing before they left, he thought for a moment, as though he was forgetting something. He remembered what it was and snapped his fingers once again, conjuring a large umbrella in his free hand. Smiling at Rae, he said, "Ready. Let's go to the beach."
=====20 minutes later=====
After riding in the car with Rae and her friends Alex had been drilled with questions that even he didn't know the answer to. Getting out of the car, with cooler in hand and sun umbrella open above his head, he sighed, walking down to the beach and sitting under the shade of his umbrella, watching the girls do what they did, passively, as he poured himself another glass of blood-wine.
He simply sat under his umbrella enjoying himself enough when one of Rae's friends came over to him, the red head. Alex smiled at her, his sunglasses now on the bridge of his nose and his red eyes showing slightly, and asked, English accent showing again "Hello... Marissa wasn't it? What can I do for you?" He smiled and set his wine down on the sand, it staying perfectly upright and not spilling.

Rae sat quietly through the twenty minute car ride to the beach, smiling silently as Alex picked his way through the minefield of questions her friend hurtled at him. When they finally reached the beach, Rae put her flip flops and helped Alex settle in under the umbrella. After he reassured her for the thousandth time that he was fine, she smiled and went off with Jess (the blonde) and Sam (the brunette) to play a game of beach volleyball, while Marissa (the red head) opted out of the game to put on sunscreen and catch some sun.
______________________________________________________ -------------------------------------------------------------
As far as Marissa was concerned, Rae was stupid for leaving her man alone with her. Rae should know by now that to Marissa, that meant he was fair game. She stood up from her towel, purposely shaking out her long red hair so that the other guys would notice her, so Alex would know she was wanted. Marissa walked over to him underneath the umbrella, hips twitching as she moved. “You remembered.” she purred, ”I'm flattered.' Marissa pretended to blush, bent over at the waist to give him a good look at her cleveage. ”I was just wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing your bottle of wine with me. I'm not much for sports you see...” she let her gaze trail over to the volleyball game where she shot a dirty look at Rae, ”But I would never leave you here all on your own.” She smiled sweetly at him and waited for his response.

Alex smiled lightly at Marissa, paying absolutely no attention to her advances, and answered her question slightly jokingly, "Well, I don't think you would like this wine very much, it's an exotic blend and a very acquired taste. Besides, it wouldn't be very gentlemanly of me to have you get drunk and then go swimming, you could drown." He smiled and took another sip of his wine and finished the glass, he set it next to the bottle. He yawned and stretched his arms, while doing so he made a small motion with his hand, unnoticeable to anyone who was looking; the weather changed from bright and sunny, to darker and overcast, dark enough so Alex could walk out in the light without being burned. He looked up, his face with a surprised look on it and said, "Ah! Wow, that was fast. The weather took a turn for the better. I'll be right back." Alex stood up, in the light and stretched, leaving his umbrella and wine where they were and moving back to the car.
Five minutes later Alex walked back onto the beach wearing dark red swim trunks, his sunglasses and an unbuttoned, tasteful, red Hawaiian shirt with white lilies on it. He smiled and waved to Marissa as he passed her, heading towards where Rae and the others were finishing their game of volleyball.
Walking silently up behind Rae when there was a break in the volleyball, he wrapped his arms around her and whispered, jokingly, and quietly enough so only she could hear, "I vant to suck your blood." chuckling, he walked around the side of her and kissed her gently, much to the surprise of Rae's friends, who were surprised that they hadn't seen him come up behind her either.

Marissa had been about to protest when Alex yawned, and then commented about the weather. Marissa looked up, and when she looked back down, he was gone. Marissa pouted, and, just to be spiteful, took a big mouthful of the wine, spitting it back out as it hit her tongue. “Gross!” Marissa decided the weird hot English guy wasn't worth it, and went back to her towel. She ignored Alex as he waved on his way back, but was unable to completely ignore his chiseled upper body.
Rae had just spiked the ball into the sand on the other teams side, winning the game for her friends. She smiled as she felt Alex's hands wrap around her waist from behind, pulling her against the hard wall of his chest, and grinned when he whispered in her ear. Rae kissed him back, and laughed when her friends realized he was kissing her and began hooting and hollering. It was then Jess suggested they all go swimming, and raced Sam to the waves. Rae arched an eyebrow at Alex in an invitation, both to come swimming, and to see if he wanted to race.

Quirking an eyebrow back at Rae, Alex simply shrugged and said, "Why not?" He raced Rae to the water and lost to her. Not because he couldn't win, but because he didn't want to. Had Alex tried, he would've been at the water before Rae's friends were. Taking his Hawaiian shirt off and tossed it on the sand, only to disappear into shadows when no one was looking Moving out in the water so it went up to the middle of his chest. He went under the water, not needing to hold his breath and came back up right next to Rae and her friends, getting them completely soaked if they weren't already.
After having fun for a while with Rae and her friends, Alex relaxed a little. Smiling at Rae, he laid on his back and motioned for her to do the same, he had a bit of a magic trick in mind. When Rae laid on her back, he raised his hand up under her and brought her over to him, so she was essentially laying on top of him. They were actually using Alex's flight power, and would only seem to be floating without sinking in the water. Stretching his arms up and around Rae, he rested them on top of her stomach, it looked like they were resting on a couch one on top of the other. One of Rae's friends watched and commented about her being lucky to have a guy like Alex, to which he replied, chuckling, "I think I'm more lucky to have someone like Rae. I don't know what I'd do without her." He kissed the side of her face lightly and simply stared up at they overcast sky through his sunglasses, with a smile on his face, his fangs showing very slightly.
