Come on, Harikaze you twit. Don't you want to battle against Kasen and his Shikai again? You were really pumped up last time... This was met with a steely silence which echoed around her head. Fabulous. To Hinata, battling without releasing your full strength wasn't battling at all.
She ducked Kasen's kick without much trouble, then found herself in an awkward position to block his slash. Finally, she resorted to twisting her sword over her other arm in order to stop Kasen's blade from reaching her chest. Spinning out from under his Zanpaktou, she parried his other stabs, then swung her blade around in a high arc at his head.

Kasen brought his blade down as it spun downward with his zanpakuto now held in an inverse hold as he tried to block the sword swinging for his head as he was a bit too close to dodge. Their blades met and clang as he landed and jump away as her blade faltered off and gave a small cut on his face as he landed a few feet away. Kasen spun his blade around as it fell out of his hand until his right hand grabbed it and assumed a defensive stance. "Well, what am I suppose to be learning?" Kasen asked out loud, unknowingly to Hinata this was directed to his zanpakuto spirit. "You need to know what you don't know about your own abilities..." Kasen gave an odd worried look as he really didn't understand that contradiction. "How am I suppose to know the unknowable?" Kasen whispered as he wondered if his zanpakuto enjoyed tormenting him with riddles that made him think of fortune cookies. "Let's rock this then..." Kasen said as he raised his blade at Hinata ,"Prepare for the prequel, for it has begun."

(( Sorry for this late reply - my internet has been switching itself on and off for the last week or so... it's never worked for long enough for me to load anything but Google xD ))
What is he talking about now?
Hinata scrutinised Kasen as he seemingly asked questions to the air.
Lord help me, my 3rd Seat has finally gone mad... she thought as he started speaking in riddles.
"His Zanpaktou. It's his Zanpaktou, you idiot. He's asking it what he's supposed to be learning."
Its not giving a very clear answer, by the looks of it.
A glint of metal caught Hinata's attention - Kasen had once more raised his blade and shifted into a defensive stance, waiting for an attack.
What do you think? Shall we play the waiting game, or attack?
"Attack. It's much more fun. I'm done waiting."
Roger that. I'm going into Shikai, mind.
Using Shunpo to land herself directly in front of Kasen, the Captain slashed at his open left side. Knowing that this was unlikely to do any harm, she hopped backwards, and, sensing no further resistance from Harikaze, pointed the blade at her trainee.
"Chime."
There was no flashy release this time, only a single whoosh of wind down her blade as it released into its Shikai form. A split second later, a single, lethal crystal shot out of the tip like a bullet, aimed directly between Kasen's eyes.

Kasen raised his zanpakuto blade at his left side as Hinata had come to attack his side, however he knew something was off as there wasn't much effort as he felt the rise of pressure. Kasen watched as the wind whipped up as it built up into the single strike of wind as he knew she was up to something. It was her shikai as he felt the zanpakuto's reiatsu rise as well as he saw the dreaded crystal shoot out as he raised the flat of his blade in a block as he tried to slash it away as sparks began flying off. Kasen slashed off as he gasped air out as he looked at his zanpakuto for a moment.
"We're suppose to be as one, now release yourself so we can battle as one.." Kasen thought to his zanpakuto as he knew there were certain advantages that one could have simply by saying their zanpakuto's name. "Have you learned to trust me?" She asked as he looked frustrated ,"It seems you don't trust me..." The zanpakuto looked at his with a stinging stare as she was offended. "Let us become one as you shout my name then!"
"Sting and Blaze, Kaosu Sasori!" Kasen shouted as he and his zanpakuto enveloped each other with a mixture of dark purple and a blazing red fiery reiatsu as he slashed to reveal the dual blade zanpakuto as Kasen looked at her. "Well milady, let's enrage the lady." Kasen said as he moved forward at Hinata as he slashed downward at her shoulder as he moved blade to move the second blade to dig downward at her lower waist area.

Hinata watched as Kasen fended off her crystal and released his own Shikai, revealing his two blades. She grinned; it had been a while since she had seen his Shikai.
Wonder if he's learnt any new tricks since last time.
However, she did not have time to ponder the point - for the next minute, Kasen had rushed at her and brought one of his swords down at her shoulder. Her own arm whipped up, and there was a clash of metal as her own rapier blade blocked the attack. Then, sliding her Zanpaktou down, she also caught his other sword with the point inches away from her waist, and slashed forwards so as to knock both swords out of the way.
As she did this, a spray of crystals erupted from the tip of her Zanpaktou, moving in an arc formation towards Kasen. Knowing that this would hardly perturb him, she then changed their direction, so that they formed a circle around him. They glinted maliciously.
Without warning, all of them shot inwards at Kasen, aiming to ensnare him with their points. Hinata grinned inwardly. This was proving to be more fun than she thought.

Kasen began spinning around his zanpakuto in his hand as he landed a few feet away as he was blocked by Hinata. A small smirk appeared on his face as his blade began to glow as the blade's resonated with their respective auras. Kasen looked around to see an arc of crystals coming at him as he began to raise his blade in order to block it, however noticed they were moving away as he kept his guard up as he watched them move around. "She encircled me... Looks like some things haven't changed.." Kasen thought as he suddenly noticed they all began moving faster towards him.
"Kaosu Kaji Nami No Sasori!" Kasen shouted as he raised his blade over his head as it spun around at a rapid pace as the auras merged together into a single reiatsu source as it ignited black flames to appear from the blade. Spinning at a fast rate, the black flames jumped off his blade as they created a large rotating flaming shield as the crystals met with the black flames. Kasen stood in the center as he looked a bit drained staring down at the ground, however he was regaining his energy as his zanpakuto spirit looked at him.
"You seem to be not learning." Sasori said as her spirit was now in front of him as she looked upon him with flaring eyes. "I don't understand, what must I do to understand what you are talking about?" Kasen whispered in a low voice so only Sasori could hear as he looked up glaringly. His eyes shown effort as he looked at the zanpakuto, to Hinata it would seem his eyes were upon here instead. "You must feel the pain of a burning soul.." Kasen had no clue to what that meant either as he stood there waiting for Hinata to attack as he raised his blade as he looked at it.

Kasen spun his blade around, creating a vortex of fire with which he warded off her crystals without difficulty. No surprises there. However, afterwards, he made no motion to attack her, and he stared blankly into space for a few moments.
"His Zanpaktou is pretty deep," said Harikaze, using her strange ability to listen in on parts of other Zanpaktous' conversations.
Yeah, I wish I had one of those too.
"What's that supposed to mean, idiot?"
Smirking slightly, Hinata raised her blade - the crystals that were attacking Kasen dissipated... but were soon replaced by a huge mass of crystals which seemed to be growing and growing in size. They clinked together, forming what appeared to be a gigantic, jagged bird.
"Not going easy on him, are you?"
Well, it's the first time I've used such a technique, to be honest. There's no way he can burn through this. After all, technically, it's made of air. It might even explode if he pushes it too much...
The bird raised its vast wings and shot upwards into the air, before curling its wings back around its body and plummeting like a huge, glimmering bullet towards Kasen.
I should have ridden on it... thought Hinata disappointedly.

Kasen began spinning his zanpakuto blade as the darkness and flames rose out of their blades as Kasen regained his focus as he looked at the object coming at him. "It's a bird, it's an airplane, nope it's a bird...A bird?!" Kasen eyes widened at the sight as this was the first time he seen something like that coming from Hinata. "Let the flames consume you..." Sasori said as Kasen was more focused on looking at the bird coming at him as origami had gone horribly wrong.
Kasen spun his blade faster as the two elements ignited into black flames once more as an arrow began forming as one was enough to be suffice for this. Kasen watched the bird coming at him as if it was a large crystal drill coming at him as he jumped upwards into the air as he brought his blade downward at the bird as he pointed the arrow downward at the bird.
Black flames exploded as the arrow met the sharp jagged edges of the bird as the thin skin of the arrow ripped as it touched it. The arrow exploded as Kasen used the explosion to fly off as the edges of his hakama were seared off. The black flames should have consumed the bird as it continue burning until Kasen decided to stop it as Kasen descended towards Hinata as his blade continued to spin and release jet-black flames.

Suddenly, Hinata's crystal bird was consumed in dark flames, which twisted around its wings and sought to burn it down. Fortunately, with so much crystal making it up, the first few layers burnt away, and the rest held strong even though the flames were rippling about its form.
With a light flick of her hand, she instructed the bird to flap its powerful wings, and the strong gust created dispelled the flames. It did not stop there, however - soon, a hurricane-like wind was stirred up, and in the midst of it, the bird dived once more towards Kasen, through the wall of fire that he had created. It stopped to land, wings spread wide in front of Hinata, protecting her from any fire that might reach her.
Time to up the game, Hinata thought, raising her arms, then bringing them inwards into a cross formation.
The bird imitated her actions. As it did this, from its wings shot hundreds of razor sharp, crystal "feathers", heading through the fire towards Kasen at a blinding speed.

Kasen looked at the bird as it should have continued burning for a while since his black flames shouldn't be easily extinguishable as he watched the bird until he noticed it was still alive. "Impossible, unless....That thing is so multi-layered and complex to survive after most of it being burnt away." Kasen thought as his blade was still unleashing black flames from itself as he continued looking at the bird. When it flapped its winged he noticed the flames were gone as he looked at it in shock ,"No...My flames, they are extinguished....Nobody has ever done that before.." Kasen thought as this was a first, showing that it wasn't as strong as the former captain's.
He watched in slight horror as he saw the flames coming at him as he heard the words mentioned earlier. "Consume..." Kasen didn't dodge as he was devoured into the flames that was once his as his zanpakuto spirit smirked at the sight of Kasen being surrounded by the flames. "Feel the pain of others, and realize the potential... You cannot let time do your battle, you must be the one who does it... We battle with flames, so ignite your soul and awaken our power..." Kasen screamed in agony as he disappeared for a moment as the crystals flew towards him as the sounds of metal clanging could be heard beside the sound of screaming pain.
"You never felt my power, you used it, and distanced yourself from your enemy as your attacked. You never experienced what you were doing, yourself was the blockade to my powers...And now, descend into my flames..." Sasori said as she laughed at her ally, unknown to Hinata as the zanpakuto blade was glowing with the black flames that it created and the flames that came to surround Kasen.

Hinata appeared surprised when Kasen's flames descended upon himself. Normally, she would have assumed that they would have no effect, but instead a scream of agony was heard from the midst of the ball of fire.
Is his Zanpaktou attacking its master on purpose, or has he just lost control? she thought, wondering whether she should intervene.
"It's no use. It's between he and his Zanpaktou now... he can either rise above it, or die."
The crystals that had been attacking previously rushed back towards the bird, repairing its broken wings. Using shunpo, Hinata landed herself on the back of the bird in order to get a better view of the events.
"Well, nothing can be done by just standing here... right, here I go."
"Oi, it's look before you leap, not the other way round!" Harikaze berated as, with a swish of her haori, Hinata leapt towards the ball of flames that was engulfing Kasen.
"Right, if he doesn't dodge this, I'll assume he's out of action... oh wait, he might die from it anyway. Oh well~" she muttered, showing a complete lack of care for how dangerous her actions may prove to be. Raising her Zanpaktou, she directed the tip of the blade at the centre of the fireball. Out of it shot a large, jagged spike of crystal which penetrated the wall of fire and out the other side. She waited, not knowing whether she had accidentally impaled her 3rd Seat or not.

The flames dissipated as the crystal burned slightly as Kasen was apparently moved from his original spot as the screaming died down as the flames crackled for a moment until something could be heard. "Dākusutā" A chain of what seemed like shurikens reveal to have wrapped itself of the large crystal as Kasen rose upwards by using shunpo. He his entire shihakusho was seared at the edges as burns appeared around his hands and leg as Kasen whipped his blade around as he threw the crystal towards Hinata. Kasen threw five of the shurikens as he threw them at Hinata as he began releasing more reiatsu as the reishi at the tip of the last shuriken link began to create more to replace the ones lost.
Earlier: Kasen looked at Sasori as he tried to dispel the flames around him ,"I will let you access my powers once more, hoping you will learn that not even you can simply escape my abilities. We are equals, I defend you, and you defend me, break this chain and you will feel my wrath once more.." Sasori told him the name of the technique that he would need to know to help him get out of this as he would need to learn from Kaosu now.

"Oh? This is new-"
Scarcely had Hinata finished speaking, than she found herself in the line of fire of her own crystal, now wrapped in a chain of throwing stars. With a slash of her Zanpaktou, she knocked it off-course, before making it dissipate back into the air, along with the giant bird behind her. However, this first attack was soon followed with a line of shuriken which shot towards her, each encased in the flames that they passed through.
Ducking, the Captain raised her sword and the first three glanced off the edge of her blade. She jerked her head to the side in order to dodge the fourth, but in the process, the fifth star, coming from the other side glanced off her cheek, creating a small cut which began to bleed a ridiculous amount for its size.
Ugh, this stupid scar is going to take ages to heal, Hinata thought, mindful of her appearance as always.
"Not now... focus on the battle, idiot."
"Hmm. Since you seem to have acquired a new technique, I'm not about to let my Zanpaktou do all the work. I'll test it myself," she said, tucking her blade back into its sheath, still released. Immediately, her Reiatsu flared, and a white flame soon appeared in her eyes as she took Harikaze's power into her own limbs.
"Let's see how your new power fares against this, then." Without giving Kasen time to ponder these words, she shot forwards at a blinding speed, a two crystal spines forming in her hands as she went. With her right hand, she jabbed at Kasen's neck, while the other hand took a sweep at his waist, her movements a blur, her speed increased even further by the Reiryoku she had fortified her limbs with.

Kasen watched as the rapier of a blade was placed back into its sheath when he noticed Hinata's reiatsu spiked upwards as he prepared to defend. Without a moment to spare, Kasen looked into the eyes of Hinata before he tried to dodge the crystals that came for him as the one for his neck missed as his shihakusho tore open slightly as he barely dodged the sweeping slash at his waist. Now a feet away, he planned the counter-attack.
"Split the Darkness and Fire." Kasen chanted as his blades separated from the single hilt that bonded it as it became a chained blade as the gap between the two hilts were now a chain of Dākusutā. Kasen gathered his zanpakuto's reiryoku as the two blades glowed their respective aura. Suddenly, the dark stars began to rotate yet remained linked by using reishi around them to create a negative polarity to remain close yet not reject each other completely. "Spin, and poison." Kasen whispered as he lashed his blade downwards to send the dark blade outward to slash at Hinata, however a Kaosuyu was beginning to form at the tip of the blade as the sword began to former a small arrow's tip as it came towards her.

The sound of ripping cloth notified Hinata that she had managed to tear through Kasen's Shihakusho, but it didn't look like she had actually done any lasting damage. Kasen jumped back, then chanted for his new Shikai technique.
Wow, this guy's Zanpaktou is full of surprises. Kinda makes you pale in comparison, doesn't it?
Before Harikaze had time to even splutter in indignation, however, Kasen had slashed his sword towards her. Raising her right arm, Hinata made the crystal dagger grow so it acted as a shield, which she held in place against the strike. A small, dense region of Reiryoku formed at the tip of Kasen's blade as it came down, and before she had a chance to see what it was, the arrow had imploded against her shield, sending waves of fire over the top of her arm and singeing her haori sleeves.
After the fire had subsided, the Captain made her crystal shield shatter, then, continuing her theme of animal imagery, re-formed it into a large constrictor snake, which wrapped itself around Kasen's torso from the waist up, and attempted to shear off his head with its huge fangs.
(( I'm assuming the arrow coming out of the tip of the blade is one of your fire arrows ^^ ))
