Maya paused, thinking and shook her head. No, maybe before, but it had been a while. "Like to chew on things though." she said, looking around. "Mom buys me really chewy toys, says its good for my teeth, and that its healthy." it helped keep away the urge to nibble on other people, and it relieve the boredom of not having anything in her mouth as well.
"New?" she looked at him appraisingly. Was he like her then, had he only met his father when he was already this big?
She didn't like thinking about life pre-Amy. She didn't like thinking of the day they had met and the fact that she'd actually been on a leash. She liked her life now, the way it was.
The way it was supposed to be.
"Maya?"
At the sound of a familiar voice, she watched as her mother made her way from the end of the rows, and grinned.
"That's my mom." she said, nodding her head.

He let out a thoughtful sound before he nodded. He couldn't relate but Ichabod tried to understand - tried being a keyword. He wasn't quite as mouthy as the girl he was currently spending time with so he didn't know what it was like to have an oral fixation.
The boy started to build a small building before he carefully nodded his head to Maya's question, "Mhm. I am kinda new to my family. I'm 'dopted."
When the boy heard the voice calling for Maya he looked up and stared over at the woman that was heading toward them and he went a bit shy and quiet. Women made him uneasy sometimes especially one of his aunts she just had that air about her. He ducked his head down and avoided eye contact for the moment until he could assess how this woman behaved he mumbled a soft, "Hello," to Maya's mother so that the lady didn't think he was rude.

Maya paused. Adopted? That was when one was bought home to the new parents by those two siblings, wasn't it? She beamed. Well, there was something else that the two of them had in common! It was quite exciting, wasn't it? Because it wasn't just the red hair that they had.
"Me too." she mumbled, pausing as she shook her head. She didn't like thinking about THAT day. They had leashed her because they were scared she would bite!
She had (pretty much) stopped doing that from the beginning.
As Amy approached, Maya beamed as she looked over. "I made a friend!" she said out loud, nodding her head.
Friend. Friends were good, right?
