After pausing to drink himself, Mchele began once more to follow after the pair. He kept his distance and practiced being quiet as he prowled after them, it was amusing to him that the hunters were being huntered too... Well, except he wasn't really hunting them. Just followinging them.
He stopped though, when the other two stopped. Lifting his head, he watched his mother perch herself atop a large rock to watch the scene. What scene? He crept forward, trying to see. Kiuma had disappeared (into the grass but he hadn't see her do so). Where'd she go? There were the wilderbeast but there was no sign of the young lioness.

Bakhti could easily see the red pelt from where she was and she also knew her son was behind her, mothers instinct. She continued to watch the red female though, watching her every movement. It would be interesting as new borns were normally well protected but this was did seem distanced, though the outcome would be interesting.

Kiuma slunk through the grass, her heart beat loud in her ears. All her senses seemed magnified, each sound she made loud enough to startle the whole herd. Even downwind, she was sure her scent would carry to them, and her whole body was tense in anticipation. This was her time, her moment.... Today was a turning point in her life, and the fulcrum of it danced through the grass ahead of her, little bleats of fear and laughter erupting from time to time.
Finally worn out, the calf trotted back to its mother and flopped down on the grass, stretching out on its side. The cow made a low sound and nuzzled it, then quickly went back to the grass she'd been cropping. She was far more interested in the food than the little calf that had appeared shortly after a great pain. She guessed she was supposed to care for it, but right now, food was more important. It would be fine laying there in the grass.
The red lioness slunk closer, her nerves on edge and her eyes nearly unblinking. Tail swaying, she finally paused a few yards from the calf. Her eyes lifted to scan the herd, pleased that none had noticed her yet. The mother took another step away, then another, following her nose and the grass.
Crouching, Kiuma steadied herself, preparing the explosive pounce that would end this hunt. Steady.... steady.... wait.... almost...
Now!
With a cry of pent up excitement and release, the young lioness burst from the concealing grass like a bolt of red lightning, her pale paws flashing in the like. Viscious claws shot out, teeth bared in a viscious snarl. The mother startled and fled into the herd, the whole group giving crys of fear as it wheel and charged away from the predator. Kiuma sailed through the air like grace given form, a perfect arch that was the culmination of all her practice and mock kills.
Claws met fur and plundged into flesh, blood spurting from the force. The calf squealed in mixed fear and pain as it struggled to escape the inevitable. Fangs flashed as the lioness bit down on his neck, and with a viscious shake, it was over. Kiuma let the limp, warm body fall to the dirt and stood panting, joy singing through her blood. She'd done it.... she'd made her first real kill, all by herself. Bright eyes rose to seek out her golden shadow, red meeting blue. Blood dripped down her muzzle as she threw her head up and roared in triumph.

Bakhti didn't move, "You can go home now if you wish Kiuma." As far as Bakhti was concerned she had done what she was suppose to do. She looked to where her son was, or at least where she thought he was and smiled. "See you around Mchele darling.."

Kiuma smiled to herself and bent to bite down on the calf's neck. Turning, she started to drag it back to Priderock. Her family could share the meet with her, and she'd be able to clean off the bones she wanted for her necklace. A rough purr rumbled in her chest, and she hardly minded the weight.

Fascinated, it was like Mchele was transfixed into stillness. Kiuma had disappeared, only to spring forward so suddenly as to make his heart jump in shock himself. His eyes never left the scene and he watched it carried out as the young red female made her kill.
It was a relief to see her make the kill so quickly for he wondered how it would go if she played with the prey. Not well he guessed. Even so, the attack she did make was a violent one. Successful though....
Once it was over and Kiuma began to drag her prize back, Mchele came out of hiding fully and wandered closer to his mother. Amazing how she always seemed to know when he was about. It must be a mother-thing. "What did you think?" He asked her once he was close enough.

"Think about what dear? Her hunting? It was ok, she is in a pride though, pride lions never do hunt amazingly, from what I have seen anyway." She licked at her son and then looked in front of them. She didn't miss being a rouge but sometimes things like hunting badly and other things annoyed her slightly.
