James' eyes widened considerably. My GODS that was a dragon. Or... part of a dragon, or.... He bit his lip. Was that a HALF-DRAGON?! My gods, this place was... was... disorderly. Very, very disorderly... Yes, that's what he'd call this place, to keep his sanity.... Disorderly.
----------
The dragonchild squirmed and writhed, and tried to get free. He hadn't meant to get caught! He just wanted to pet the pretty things in the corner, and and... This was unfair! He started to cry and whip his tail and randomly snap at things.
"Noooo!" he screamed, continuing to flail. "NO! No no no no!"
Of course he knows the word 'no'. Every child his age does, or at least in theory. And in reality, he was more scared of the others, than he was of her - just... getting caught wasn't fair!

Gail was not nearly as so judgmental. Leaning in a bit she offered the boy a smile. "Hey kiddo, it's not bad as all that. Come on now - be a big boy and smile." Reaching out to pat his head, she soon found he was indeed not alone - by any means.
----
The scream had distracted her. The little girl's eyes grew wide and she forgot the wyrms, pushing herself up and rushing at the strangers. "NO!" she cried out forcefully. While she knew Miss Apoxi - these people were strangers! And she did not trust them! The woman was the one seeming to menace him most, so with her wings flushed out to full length she stomped her foot hard and pointed at the woman and cried out again. "NO! Bad! STOPPIT!!!"
---
The sudden assault of the girl's screams were enough to have the desired effect. Gail lost interest in the boy and rounded on the little girl. The sudden fit was most unbecoming to her, and the grown woman was not about to take such sass. However - she wasn't exactly abusive. Instead, she knelt down in front of the girl and looked at her dead on.
Suddenly the woman was a lot bigger up close and a lot more intimidating. "No..." she whimpered, losing her nerve considerably. Pointing to her brother she pouted and this time asked almost civil. "No."
Gail nodded as the voice lowered to a speaking level. Only then she smiled and offered her hand to the little one. "That's better now isn't it? She's not hurting him - so this isn't really a big deal is it?" "No..." the reply came again, confirming that yes, maybe she had over-reacted to the strange adults.
Reaching out to grab the woman's hand, the girl, now calmer, pointed instead at the wyrms - forgetting what she had been upset over. "Pets?" Turning to Miss Apoxi she actually smiled, pleading this time as sweet as she could manage, "Peeeets?"

Apoxi sighed as the other twin started wailing and as the boy started to throw a fit, adjusting him in her arms so she could snuggle and bounce him in a way she had since he was born. "Come on, lil guy, you need to relax. You know you aren't supposed to be out of your room without me coming to take you two places. Now there are people here and you've gotta be nice honey." she cooed, petting him a bit as she spoke. "These people aren't gonna hurt you and if you calm down and are good, we can go pet one of the pets."

The dragon-child calmed, and gave a little sniffle as he buried himself into the woman's shoulder. He peeked up at the other people, and hid his face again. They were odd. And one of them smelled funny.
"Pets..." he murmured, grabbing a fistful of the woman's shirt. "Pet pets."
----------
James caught sight of the face of the dragon-child, and blinked. What an odd child... but... pretty cute.... Hmmm....

The little one furtively pointed at a neon black and purple one, her clawed feet scratching the tile as she bounced excitedly. "Pets! Pets - Pleeeeeeeease!" The woman only watched the wyrm for a moment before turning to Apoxi and jerking a thumb at it. "Is it ok to let them touch these while they're feeding or?"

Apoxi looked over. Many of hte smaller wyrms were starting to drift out of the circular formation they were flying it and the extreme glow of their eyes was starting to fade. "Just so long as it's one of the one's flying away. Don't reach into the circle for any.' she said, noting it was the young less trained ones leaving, all full up. This included the one the girl wanted to touch.
"Yes lil one, pets." she cooed back at the boy before grinning at James. "Would you like to come see some pets with him?"

James stiffened a bit as he realized he was being talked to, and then relaxed. Well... the boy DID seem to want to touch one of those sleeping.. things. The child, if it could be called that, was very odd... but very cute. What could it hurt to indulge that a little? He canted his head in assent, and looked over toward where the dragon-boy was reaching.
"Looks like he likes that black and pink one..." he murmured. "How... much ARE these things, if you don't mind my asking..."
Corwin was indeed reaching for a black-and-pink faedragon, little hands stretching out as if to touch it from waaaay over here. It was sleeping, and wouldn't mind, right? Right?
"Peeeeets...." he said, reaching and stretching. "PetsPets.... Please?"

Gail calmly walked over to the mass of writhing wyrms and reached out to grab the neon black and purple one that had fascinated the child. The creature didn't seem to mind being touched and allowed the woman to gently steer it down to the child. "There. Pets."
The girl was delighted. Squealing in excitement she took hold of it and began snuggling it, bouncing up and down. "PETS!" The wyrm writhed and wriggled before giving in and allowing the girl to hold it close.
Watching the girl enjoy the creature so much made the woman smile, glad she could make the little one happy so easily. She couldn't help but wonder if the other kids would respond this well.
Before she could make much progress in going back and asking Apoxi, the little one did the unexpected and tugged hard at her pant leg. "Pets!" she cried indignantly, pulling harder. "Pets!" Gail only arched a brow and gently detached the child from her, petting the girl on the head briefly. "Yes, sweetie. Pets. But I need to go see about other things and-" "NO! Stay...." That caught the woman off guard. She had been going to reprimand the girl for yelling 'No' so suddenly, but the 'Stay' quieted her. "Stay..."
Gail looked back towards he brother and then at the boy. "James? Thoughts?"

Apoxi handed the boy off to James carefully, moving the man's hands to hold the boy a bit better. "Just carry him over so he can pet it. It won't bite or any of that, just be gentle." she said that last part more to Corwin than anything.
Turning to Seraphie, she put her hands on her hips. "Young lady, I taught you better than that. If you want to talk to the nice lady, use proper language. Most people don't understand pets pets pets." she chided, but still with a fond smile, leaning down to tap her nose lightly with a fingertip.

James swallowed a bit, but did pick up the child, holding him close. As he did so, he felt a sort of feeling he had never felt before. The boy felt... natural in his arms. Like he had been in them before, but... James had never met this child before, or even HEARD of this place, so that couldn't be it...
Regardless, he took the boy over to the dragons, and set him down, getting to one knee and watching him as the child reached out to very lightly pet the one he was after. It wasn't long before he'd decided to leave the dragons to their sleep, and fairly ran back into Jame's arms. The man felt a lump in his throat.
"I... well, I...." he cleared his throat again. "It feels odd, Gail... I want to talk to you about something. Outside. Alone. If you don't mind?"

Nodding, Gail moved away from the girl. The little one looked about to cry, but the woman silenced any sniffles with a stern look and a quiet word. "Stay. I'll be back in a little while, so just stay here." The message left no room for argument, and the child nodded as the woman strode over to her brother and brusquely grabbed him by the arm, pulling him towards the entrance of the room. She only paused to call back to the woman who had brought them there, "We'll be right back."

Apoxi had taken this time to carefully set the boy by the pet he was so eager to cuddle with and nudged the little dragon so it could crawl up into his arms for snuggletimes. It was sort of sleepy, having been fed before the mana wyrms, so it was pretty easily obliged and soon enough Apoxi'd shown him how to pet it and gone over to pick up the girl and her wyrm.
"Now, if you're going to go trying to harass the pets, you need to learn to take care of them and be a big responsible girl." the woman teased, bouncing the blonde as she carried her over to sit by her brother.

James took his sister aside, and spoke to her in a hushed tone.
"Gail... I know nothing about being a father, and even less about being an uncle." he started. "I don't know how to take care of a child, and I'll need help knowing what to do. But... if you want these two, I would be happy to call the dragon boy my son. Only...."
He bit his lip, and crouched down. "I'm not quite sure he LIKES me."
-------------------------------
The little dragonboy was just about as sleepy as the pet he'd chosen, and snoozed quietly with it in his arms. He wondered when the nice man was going to come back, or IF he was going to come back. He liked that one. Looking over at his sister, he gave a big smile to show that those two WERE the ones he wanted.... and a tilt of his head to see if she wanted the same.

Gail shook head and smiled at her older brother. "You learned to like me, didn't you? Look - bottom line - I like the girl. She's got spunk, and her brother isn't half bad either. I think we can manage a good home for them, so why not?"
----
The little girl was nonplussed. She clutched her mana wyrm tight and sniffled once more. Why did the woman have to leave? Didn't she want her? Wasn't she good enough? Maybe her brother brought up the question - but even he wasn't all that bad, for a boy. Shifting her pet into one arm she reached up to tug at Apoxi, trying not to appear upset as she softly asked again, "Stay?"

Apoxi chuckled, noting the worry in the girl's face. "Silly harpy, I have to help Jillian put the mana wryms to bed. I'll be in here." she cooed, petting the child's hair a little and helping her settle down next to her brother. "Don't you worry so much, okay? Even if they don't pick you two - and I don't see why they won't - you'll still have us and we'll find you a nice home." she promised, pat patting the two and moving away a bit to get to putting away the wyrms.
