"Yes Yours told Mine your name, but i thought it more polite to introduce myself personally he said his tone full of playfulness "It will be a shame when you Rise, i will have had to return to my own Weyr by then he rumbled teasingly

"Milnth, stop that! she's barely reached adulthood, let alone her color" he grumped, then his gaze became wholly focussed on the Crimson's rider. "Excuse me?" he said at the tone in the lad's voice "It is up to my Dragon who he does and doesn't talk with" he glowered, then stood straight "What i have a problem with, is that he's flirting with her" he said, as if that explained everything. He hoped the lad would think he meant the fact that the crimson was young, rather than his true thoughts. He was however impressed that the lad had the gall to stare like that but he couldn't help being drawn to the trace of a scar. "I'm a Benden Rider" he said proudly "of the Weyr of the bronze that caught the Malvren Queen!" he added, "my Milnth was neck and neck with him" he commented as he returned the stare.

I'll just have to suffer through it, somehow...Luvith sounded amused, folding her wings against her back again

"Luvith can take care of herself." S'kagi pointed out, cooly. "Regardless of how close to the young queen your dragon came, I doubt he has the magical power to make females rise just because he's flirting."

He clapped his jaw shut almost as soon as the words slipped out, surprised at his own aggravation, but he didn't much like the feeling he was getting from the man. And he would be a Benden rider. The same weyr who had killed the mother of the Crimson Clutch.

Face hot from embarrassment, he cleared his throat and added. "S'raids dragon flew well." He conceded, trying to head off an argument, though he couldn't stop thinking about the mans objection to his dragon speaking to Luvith. It kept sticking in his thoughts, like being stabbed by a thorn. "His partner must be pleased." He remembered how Galvanth had reacted to Luvith and her clutch mates when they'd been smaller. The huge bronze had a soft spot for the hatchlings, and he suspected he would be upset if he was not able to see his own clutch hatch.

"We met him after the hatchling. He was much more..." He paused, eyes still angry as he searched for a diplomatic word. "Level headed...than some of the riders that were with him. I was searched at Ista, so I know there are people who think they're -better- than the Atypicals... it was nice to meet a rider from such a traditional Weyr who wasn't suffering from that particular delusion."

You're baiting him. Luvith pointed out, though she sounded as amused and surprised as warning. If that is what he thinks, it's not worth getting into a fight. People like that are beneath us. She reminded.

...You're right. I'm sorry. It's really not...and he hasn't actually -said- anything directly... He admitted, feeling a squirm of guilt, twisting like a worm in his stomach.

S'kagi does not like to feel judged. Your partner makes him feel as though some might think he's done wrong by coming to Trine to find me. Luvith offered, to Milnth... as close to an apology as she was clearly planning to offer.

Milnth rumbled an amused reply "maybe i could sneak away when you rise" he suggested, giving the draconic equivalent of a cheeky smile. His own wings stretching out, then 'accidentally' brushing her before folding them back up.

B'nas stared hard at the rider in front of him, as much as he HATED to admit it, he would prefer NOT to have conflict here, however he wouldn't just stand by and be talked to like that. "You're right, but he likes to try" he said, almost gritting his teeth in the reply.

He agreed with the lad on the point of S'raid's dragon "That he did, an asset to the Weyr that dragon" he said flatly. "S'raid is rarely pleased about anything" he said, his tone almost amused. His gaze turned hard at the next statement. "What did you say?" he said angrily "think they're -better- than the Atypicals" he almost growled "a Dragon is a dragon" he said "i find great offence at what you're implying boy" he warned, the boy had just hit a nerve.. and B'nas was determined not to let him see that, not even his superiors knew of his distaste for the oddly colored, 'weak' dragons, he'll be damned if this boy was going to know either.

"Don't listen to Mine, he doesn't appreciate the value of lovely ladies such as yourself" he replied.

"I find great offense when I get the impression someone thinks less than highly of my partner." S'kagi fired back, back, stiffening as he added "Sir" somewhat curtly. "I couldn't give a wherrys fart what people think of me, but Luvith is as good or better than any dragon I can name, and Benden's stance isn't a secret, so I think you have to understand, Sir...what people might assume when you get so upset that your Brown is speaking to a Crimson." S'kagi explained, his tone stiff as he tried to reel in his own temper.

You'd get in trouble. Luvith pointed out, though she was clearly flattered, and didn't move away from the light brush, even if she wasn't old enough to respond to it in any other way. Does he really think poorly of Crimsons? She asked, coyly, tilting her head flirtatiously. More flies with honey... as the expression went.

"i don't like people putting false words in my mouth boy, like i said, i don't cre who Milnth talks to, but i won't tolerate him flirting with a dragon barely out of Senior Weyrling status." she almost snarled at the crimson's rider "Benden's stance is their own, each person thinks differently" he said, trying to calm down. he took another gulp of his drink, only to realise he had finished already. He stared hard at the boy, daring the lad to accuse him outright of his dislike.

Milnth rumbled his great amusement "You would be worth it my dear, anyway, what can they do? I'm a dragon, it's not like they could stop me" he joked. He caught her tone and gave a mental shrug "sometimes even i cannot read his thoughts, it is not my place to pry that deep" he replied, not committing to a definite answer, knowing that His didn't like it to be known.

"I don't recall doing anything except pointing out how the words you'd already spoken were likely to be interpreted. Especially after Benden's 'unfortunate accident' at Trine." S'kagi was still red faced from embarrassment, but his heels were dug in, and the man wasn't making him any more convinced that he wasn't biased against his beautiful Luvith.

He glanced at the man's empty cup briefly, tempted to look to a cup of wine himself, but quashed the urge entirely with another thought of Luvith.

"People's stance's are their own." He agreed. "And she can still take care of herself. We'll all be back at our own weyrs before too long, and you won't have to worry about Luvith.

He'd have plenty to worry about at some point, but it wouldn't be from B'nas.

F'ren had been around the edges of the gathering for some time when he heard rasied voices and recognised one of his own fellow riders, "S'kagi! Hey! over here!" he called, moving quickly towards his fellow Trine rider, He caught the words Benden and glared, before turning his head to S'kagi "Let's go S'kagi i feel the urge to go speak with our Weyrleaders, want to come?" he said, virtually pulling at the crimson rider, to pull him away from the Brownrider.

B'nas said nothing, he didn't have time to reply when another lad called over "Great ... surrounded by foolish children with dreams of grandeur" he thought privately. "go with your friend, crimson rider" he said to S'kagi and turned on his heel, searching for a drink... and better company.

F'ren He felt a touch of relief at the excuse to back down without compromising his stance, though he wasn't sure about speaking to the Weyrleaders. He cleared his throat anyway and moved to follow F'ren, shooting B'nas an undisguised glower.
"Well, I'll listen to you speak to them anyway." he offered, elbowing F'ren slightly, and then added under his breath. "Good timing...what an..." he trailed off, unable to think of a word that expressed what he was thinking. "He needs a punch in the nose." He added, darkly.

F'ren smiled at S'kagi "don't be silly, that was just something i said to shut HIM up" he laughed, nudging S'kagi back. "ignore him, he's ....a...a... wherry brain" he said unable to think of an appropriate insult right then. "he does but let's not repeat my mistake at the hatching huh?" he said, knowing that most of the Weyrlings would have known he got royally punished for his insult of the Benden rider. "how is Luvith these days?" he asked, trying to change the subject "Where is she now?"

Quite a pleasing outcome in the end, so far as he was concerned. He wondered how many noses would be out of joint over this though; there had been plenty speaking passionately against the use of ancientcraft... Still, let them sulk, they were going to have to live with the democratic decision that had been reached. Scratching Acriculeth's eyeridges idly A'nos scanned the room, pondering who he ought to approach first. His own Weyrwoman might be a good start, but he was interested to speak with the others as well. Humm, what about Eirlyn? Surely he ought to thank his host.

Decision made A'nos drifted towards the senior goldrider of Malvren with Acriculeth at his side, calling Symphony from wherever she had been hiding as he did so. As the crimson firelizard alighted on his shoulder young man and young dragon came to a halt and waited patiently for Eirlyn's attention to be free before speaking. "Weyrwoman," A'nos gave a slight bow, "I am A'nos of Benden Weyr, and this is Acriculeth; we wished to thank you for hosting us, for hosting everyone come to that, with such good grace. I know our Weyrs have a bad history, but I hope with this new beginning we can begin to set that aside." He couldn't see it being a swift change, but it could well be advantageous if it did happen; if all the Weyrs got along well and cooperated it opened up far more possibilities in life.

S'kagi ducked his head, his usual gesture of surrender and embarrassment. "If I was going to I would have already, though if he says something again I might accidentally have to spill a drink on him." He pointed out. "Luvith's hanging around the edges of the field, you'll laugh though, because his dragon Milnth is flirting with her. She's eating it up, but I'm not too worried about it, he -is- a Benden rider, and I don't see things like this happening too often."

"C-Ca'mil and Cheryth" he repeated trying to commit the names to memory.
"It's a p-pleasure to meet you both! Er... well...you and through you...well..." He stammered loosing some track of what he'd been trying to say in his quest to find the right words to say it.
"I-It's an honor..." he finished after a moments struggle.

"It's g-good to s-see so m-many gathered, I t-think... it m-must be a very great th-thing to have done this w-with n-no incident more fortunate than f-for our y-younger gold to have r-risen!" He said meaning all good fortune in that. The tragedy of the crimson was too fresh to so many, he hoped that these changes they would make might stem the tide of misfortunes.

"H-have you flown very long? P...please, would you tell me wh-what its like?"

'I like this fellow' Cheryth piped up as she looked at him with her faceted eyes 'It is good to look on the bright side of things in uncertain times' She continued in a pleased tone. 'It most certainly is' Ca'mil agreed.

"It's a pleasure to meet you as well" Ca'mil told him "Cheryth says it is always good to look on the bright side of things" She summed up the Crimsons words "But your right, this get together has gone by quite peacefully, I suppose everyone realized the serious nature of it and behaved themselves" She added with a slight laugh.

The question about flying was a relatively common one ca'mil had noticed, all candidates wanted to know what it was like, but it was incredibly hard to describe it and do it justice. "It's like nothing you've ever experienced" She told him "Dragons are meant to fly and in the air they truly shine, the fact that they share such an ability with us is fairly mind blowing the first few times, and then the shock over the fact that your actually doing it finally - after spending so much time getting from hatching to then - wears off and its fun, like something you do with your best friend, except so much deeper" She tried to explain it though she had a feeling her words fell a bit short. 'You did fine' Cheryth encouraged her. 'thanks love' Ca'mil responded before turning her attention back to the man in front of her "Have you stood on the sands before?"

Welp, we're screwed, Keela thought optimistically to herself once the results of the vote were released. At least if old patterns hold true. Certainly hope that I'm wrong.

They are foolish to trust in the old ways, Taith replied, eyes whirling orange in irritation. Ancient crafting was abandoned for a reason.

The green rider glanced over curiously at her partner. You're a bit more moody today than usual. You're due to rise soon, aren't you?

No no, my hide is this color all the time, haven't you noticed?

She rolled her eyes at her dragon's sarcasm. Heh, well why don't you go find some local blues and browns to flirt with in the meantime. You don't look to be quite at rising point just yet.

The large green huffed in indignation and held her head up proudly. As if any dragon from this area could hope to catch me. No thanks, I will stick with our fine Benden males for flight. Even in the queen flight Benden proved superior.

Keela merely rolled her eyes. Suit yourself then. If you think you can hold out until we return home then so be it. Try not to make any trouble while I mingle a bit. And by 'trouble' she meant don't challenge the first dragon you see to... well, anything really. As much of a competitive streak as she herself had, this was neither the time nor place to be forming challenges.

------------

I am still unsure of this, Mine.

I know. S'ren pat his dragon comfortingly. They could have spoken up with the rest when the speeches were being done, but in all honestly they hadn't been sure which side to choose. Both had entirely valid points to be made. In the end they had voted for the Ancient crafting, but even then there were not 100% on the matter. At this point however it doesn't make any difference. We have made our decision and we must stand by it.

True enough. The brown looked about the gathering semi-curiously. Why don't you go and mingle some, Mine? It is not often that all of the Weyrs are gathered like this. It was certainly a rare opportunity for interaction.

Only if you do too, he replied jokingly, smiling up at his dragon briefly before going to get something to drink. And harpers don't count. You need to expand your own social circle.

Tereth let out an amused rumble, though he tried to feign disappointment in his reply. Very well then... Although perhaps it wasn't entirely feigned. He did love the harpers.

------------

Unlike some of the others, Crystal and Argenth both were quite glad of the news. I am glad enough people were able to see sense. We may just have a chance at growing Mystweed after all.

Most certainly. It would have been terrible for us to turn away this offer of help in a time when it is most needed. The silver stretched his wings a bit momentarily before settlings them back down onto his back, gladly letting the sun reflect off of his smooth hide. Will you be conversing with others, Mine?

Unless someone decides to speak with me first, likely not, she replied, mingling in with the crowd. Of course that doesn't mean I won't be keeping an ear out for anything interesting in the meanwhile.

F'ren smiled softly "He's not worth it" he said again "So... nervous about when Luvith does Rise? i know i am about Toulonth" he said honestly. keeping his arm loosely draped over his friend's shoulders. "How about grabbing some food and enjoying ourselves? Malvren seems pretty cheerful" he encouraged, trying to take his friend's mind off Benden.

B'nas grabbed another drink from one of the tables, "Benden white?!" he grumbled surprised "Well, maybe this sharding Weyr isn't all that bad if they have something decent to drink" he muttered, spying a fellow Benden rider he smiled. "Keela!" he called, moving quickly over, he teased her by putting his hand on the small of her back "Keela dear, i haven't seen much of you lately, i'm offended, surely you dont think they" his tone meaning anyone but a benden rider "are better than us?" he laughed, knowing how to push her buttons.
