Nate eyed her when she called him 'mentally incapacitated', shaking his head but not speaking just yet. He scraped his tongue ever so politely, by his terms, ostentatiously to others, with a napkin, making loud 'pleh' sounds with each effort to clean the taste off his palate by rubbing the cloth cleaned tongue over the roof of his mouth, then repeating the whole process.

He did this a few times, before grinning at her.

"You know, there is an easier way to go about calling someone retarded," he said, pointing the spoon at her as if accusing her of something, "like, maybe, just saying 'retarded'. And how was you being a klutz, my fault?" He didn't move to help her, holding on to the towel he had just used for mouth cleaning so she didn't use it for water cleaning.

He arched his eyebrows in surprise as she yelled at him, surprised. He hadn't realized he could make her crack, and to see it was interesting. He wasn't sure how to take it, exactly. It was a victory, of course, but he wasn't exactly thrilled. It was a mellow feeling of accomplishment, as if something in the back of his mind was telling him not to get too excited about it.

"I told you, I saw you eating so I thought I'd say hello. Do I really bug you that much? Your face is all red. You'll have a heart attack, if you get that stressed when someone is just looking to spend some time with you. You need to chill out." He moved to take some unspoiled garlic bread from a pretty basket, offering her a piece.

Because garlic bread solved all problems.

"Chill out and eat."

He knew he bothered her, but he didn't want her to get up and storm out, or run off crying. Where would the fun in that be? Besides for a moment, and maybe for some time whenever he reflected on it, but he was enjoying himself already, and didn't think her getting more furious would help that. Maybe.

"I don't say the r-word, it's offensive," she said confidently, as if she knew all. "And I like having a lofty vocabulary, it puts forth the image of intelligence." Or pretentiousness, but did she know the difference? Probably not! Elegancia decided that it'd be better to not get so upset in public, least of all in the classier places. "If there's ever anything that you've said that I've agreed with," she began, "it's that I need to relax." After all, being a gorgeous debutante and super hero wasn't easy. "Although I find it very suspicious that you just wanted to eat dinner with me, it doesn't seem very like you, to be honest."

Then again, she didn't know him that well, so who knew?

Although eating bread was something she loved to do, as it was so delicious, she tried to eat it in moderation. "Although it'll make me fat, I suppose I'll take a piece... Just one. It'd be rude to turn down such an offer, right?" Elegancia looked at the table before them-- it was all lavish, beautiful food, but really, a greasy burger would have been more delicious. Adira had turned her on to McDonald's, after all.

"You know, Nate... What would you say to burgers?"

"Oh, right, but calling me mentally incapacitated and feeding me poisoned soup isn't offensive. But I guess you have to do all you can to at least put up an 'image' of intelligence, since you don't have any of the real stuff to back you up, huh?"

Nate sat back once she took the bread, though, nodding his head.

"I wonder if we can get the staff to wrap this all up in doggy bags?" He grinned. It wasn't just Elegancia, after all, that he liked to annoy. It was pretty much anyone he could. He just went out of his way to bother her, which was a special honor reserved for only the most 'special' of people.

He tilted his head at her, watching her and pondering a rude comment on her saying the bread would 'make' her fat, and implying that it was too late for the bread to have much of a difference. But the timing was off now, so it would only make him look dumb if he came at her with the comment now, after what looked like a long pause just to think of it.

Chewing on his own piece of bread, he waved for their waiter, but was distracted as she spoke to him, eying her warily.

"Burgers, huh? That's more my kind of food. But this feels like a trap. Why do you ask?"

"Disregarding everything you said," Elegancia began while dabbing her lips with a napkin delicately, "I think I would much rather enjoy burgers, is all." It was true, although not for the reason she stated-- the young debutante was beginning to feel the cold stare of the patrons within the extravagant restaurant. Burgers really did sound delicious at that moment, though. It was a shame that her company could have been a little better (where was Adira when she needed her?!), as she would have to ignore every other thing that fell out of his mouth, but it wasn't too bad. If he could just stop flapping his gums, things may have been alright! "Do you know any good places that aren't filled with thugs and thieves? I'm not in the mood for being murdered, or worse, pick-pocketed."

Elegancia gracefully raised a hand into the air, looking around for a waiter to bring the tab to the dinner table. What she found was a group of several waiters huddled in a corner, pointing in their direction and laughing. Great! Just great, now she could never come back to this restaurant again. For a moment, Elegancia threw a glance at Nate, then at a waiter as he managed to strut over to their table. "Yes, we need the bill, thank you very much." Without hesitance, the waiter was off to get the tab-- hopefully, he'd be quick. While he was gone, Elegancia turned to Nate and smiled as sweetly as she could. "If you'll excuse me," she began coyly, "but I have to use the lady's room. I'll be back in a moment!" Pushing herself out of the table, Elegancia stood up confidently and made her way in the direction of the bathroom.

Except she didn't go to the bathroom-- she left the building, letting the worker in front know that the young mad would be paying for everything. After all, it was the gentlemanly thing to do, right?

"You're in the wrong company, then," he said with a devilish smile. Of course, he was joking. He wasn't a murderer, at the very least. And he wouldn't pick-pocket her: stealing from her would be more fun if she could just see him doing it anyway.

When she said she was getting ready to go, though, he glared at her. He did not trust people who had to go to the bathroom before a tab was brought to the table: it was an age old trick, and one he had pulled more than once.

And, of course, she didn't come back.

"b***h!" Nathan laughed, as the check came to the table. He put down a credit card he had stolen from Tony, which in no way had anywhere near enough on it to cover the bill, and let them take it to swipe it. While that was happening, he grabbed some bags of food and took off, making sure to knock the table over first as he darted. He ran by Elegancia, seeing her on the street, laughing and sending her a look as he ran.

"Nice one, but you just wait!"

He had to escape down an alley to get out of sight long enough to power up, always one to use his powers for good, and bounce up onto a roof to lay low, in a metaphorical sense considering he was actually up high. In any case, he now had another debt to pay off toward his dear friend Ele.

Peering over the edge of the roof, he at least wanted to see if the men chasing him had tried to stop her, or if she had gotten away with it. Whatever happened, he knew they would be contacting Tony about that check.

Standing around with her arms crossed, Elegancia watched as Nate dashed by and into the distance. Well, darn! A waiter came out soon thereafter, informing her that, oh no! Her date hadn't paid the bill and, unfortunately, she'd have to pay it. "C'est la vie," Elegancia said with a sigh, waving a hand through the air, "it's sad when men can't pay for things, isn't it? Good thing he wasn't my date." The brunette followed the waiter back in, pulling a checkbook out of her clutch. The bill was astronomical, of course, but nothing unheard of in Elegancia's world of extravagance. She didn't apologize for the inconvenience; after paying, Elegancia left the store solemnly, noticing that her limousine had arrived to pick her up.

She really did want burgers!
