********* was a special cat. Aside from the fact she was a guardian and could speak and hold conversations with pretty much anybody she chose.
"I'll eat whatever you have. I'm not picky to be quite honest." That was the advantage and the curse of being a stray most of the time. She wasn't picky about food because she ate it whenever she got the chance. With what looked like a simple hop, the manx bounced off the table and landed rather heavily upon all four paws.
Rather than wait too long, she began to trot towards what she assumed to be the kitchen. "Does Tempo mind sharing dry food?" Her velvety nose was already trying to sniff out where the dry food might have been kept.

He was on his feet the next moment, with Tempo relegated to the floor, as he opened the fridge to have a look inside. It just seemed to be wrong to have a talking, sentient cat eat cat food ! It probably wasn't high on the scale of deliciousness. "She's not very good at sharing." He winked at *********. "I have... some leftover roast, though ? Would you like that ?"
He could always order a pizza later.

When he opened the fridge, the small cat bounced slightly, enough to get her paws onto the first ledge. Her eyes glanced around as best as she could from her relatively dwarfed height, as if trying to figure out what she'd want. Of course, such an effort was pointless, because all the fridge was doing was making her cold, and all of the food was just making her hungrier.
She licked her maw before finally glancing back to Xavier. "Well, many cats are pretty territorial. Sometimes it makes getting food a bit tricky when I am searching for my girls." Once again, she turned to face the fridge, squinting her eyes as if trying to keep the green orbs from getting cold. "And yes, that would be fine... I really am not picky."

"Yeah, that's what they told me at the shelter when I got Tempo." The tupperware containing said roast leftover was pulled out, and then relocated to the microwave for re-heating. Like hell he'd let ********* eat cold ! Not tonight, indeed.
"Tempo doesn't really mind other cats." As if she hadn't noticed - even now, the tuxedo was hovering close to the pair, still rather curious about ********* - of course, she didn't understand a thing about what was going on. "Unless they go for her food or her toys, that is." Tempo was very much a spoiled princess.
The microwave let out a ding, and the container was pulled out and put on the table so that the guardian cat could eat at a comfortable eye-level. "My dad bbqed that yesterday. He's really good at it." Compared to what ********* might be able to scrounge up usually, this was a 5-star dinner. "I can't use the damn thing without putting something on fire."
Alas.

Following the action, ********* trotted up to where the boy stood by the microwave. It was as if she was trying to be a cat by following the man who would be supplying her meal tonight. Her nose twitched every so often as the scent of the roast seemed to fill the air surrounding them, each second smelling more delicious than the previous one.
The mention of toys got ********* ears to twitch slightly. "Well, I don't need fancy toys to keep happy. Do you happen to hair any hair ties? Or any plastic tabs that you pull from around a plastic milk carton?"
The cat let out a small laugh at his admitting how bad he was with a barbecue set. "Well, you at least do the BBQ-ing outside, right?" Once more, she trotted towards the table and hopped up again. "Thank you, Xavier. You really didn't have to go out of your way." She approached him, rubbing up against him slightly, and if he'd allow it, snuck in a small feline kiss as well.
Five more seconds, and she was in front of the food, foolishly attempting to blow on it so it wouldn't burn her tongue.

"Is that a trick question ?" He asked, amused as he sat in the same chair that he had been sitting in previously. Of course he had hair elastics, just look at him !
Playtime would wait until ********* was done eating, though - but his one valid hand went to fumble with his ponytail, and managed to free the elastic after a few minutes of tugging, leaving his long hair free.

Eventually, the cat leaned forward and took a bite from the roast. Her stomach might have been large, but her mouth, unfortunately, was not able to unhinge like a snake's jaws. So instead of finishing her food at the speed of light, she was stuck sitting there chewing and nibbling on her food.
Her eyes, however, didn't have to remain focused on the current task. Though the only sound coming from the cat was chewing, her eyes were upon Xavier. His hair seemed to flare out slightly as it was released from the elastic prison, but that didn't seem to have the feline's attention. Oh no, her green eyes were fixated upon his hand which now held the holiest of all toys.
Hair elastic.
It was one of those times where the cat might have wished for a tail, for it totally would have been flicking from side to side as she crouched down a bit. She still wasn't ready for play, since her meal was now almost smooshed into her face. It didn't mean she couldn't show off her excitement.

Okay, this was adorable.
He didn't throw the elastic just yet - wouldn't until ********* had finished her meal - but it didn't mean he wouldn't tease her, oh no ! The elastic was slid around two fingers, ready to be snapped into unknown locations.
For now, though, he was just stretching it and letting it snap back against his finger.
Boing, boing, boing~

Oh, now he was just being cruel.
Smacking her mouth a bit as she swallowed, she let him know just that. "Now you are just being cruel, Xavier!" Her whiskers twitched with each snap of the elastic against his finger. She kneaded her paws and claws slightly against the ground.
Food.
No, play.
No, foooooood!!!
The cat whined a bit, as if she didn't know what to do with herself. Her maw formed a pout, but eventually she just shoved more food in it. The solution to everything was food, right?
Given a few more minutes, she was able to finally finish the meal. "You are such a tease! Has anybody ever told you that before?" Her eyes were still upon the toy as she began to pad ever closer, crouching down and preparing for the game.

"Only when I feel like it~"
Boing, boing~
When the cat was finally done with her food and went padding toward him, the cruel teasing finally stopped - and the elastic was launched toward the living room. It landed near the couch, and it wouldn't be hard for the manx to find it.

The moment the elastic had left his hands, the cat was already running. For being the roundish cat she was with such short legs, it was amazing she was able to run as quickly as she could. Yet as she rushed past, the air seemed to suddenly fill with laughter and jingles. The feline certainly had a childish laughter which was almost airy.
As she neared the couch, she slowed for half a second so she could position herself into pouncing at the elastic loop. She swiped with her paw at the loop, causing it to almost jump into the air again. For a moment, she let out a squeal of amusement before picking up the toy in her mouth. She probably could have lay on the ground and continued playing with the loop between her paws for hours, but instead, she began to trot back to Xavier. The pale cat continued to make a giggling sound, though it was slightly more muffled now thanks to what she was carrying.
When she was in front of Xavier's feet again, she dropped the elastic, then backed up slightly, crouching down in preparation of the chase again. She didn't say a word, but she looked at him with eyes that begged AGAIN!

A laughing cat was rather strange, but ********* light laughter was highly contagious, and the long-haired blonde was giggling as well by the time the manx had returned to him. Tempo never played fetch, in typical cat fashion, but this was pretty fun !
Thankfully for *********, the tuxedo didn't seem interested to join the game - she was currently napping on the couch. She probably wouldn't really 'get' the game at all.
He bent down to grap the elastic, petting the top of ********* head on the way, and she didn't need to spend a long time begging at all - a few seconds later, the elastic was flying though the air again.

Normally ********* would have leaned into the touch upon her head, but no, her head remained steady as she once more kneaded at the ground with her paws. She could see that elastic. It was in his fingers. It was gradually lifted up, causing the feline's green eyes to also follow almost obediently.
AND THEN IT FLEW OFF AGAIN! Just like before, the cat ran off, giggling almost wildly. Much like before, she pounced the elastic, picked it up between her teeth, then returned back to the boy. In all honesty, she could probably do this for a pretty long time. The nifty thing about this game was, if she brought the toy back, then it would go flying again.

Xavier also looked like he could do this all day if he wanted - it was fun ! He threw sparkle balls at Tempo, sometimes, but the tuxedo didn't have the sense to bring them back so that he could throw them again.
Maybe it was why many people liked dogs ? He had no idea - Tempo was his first pet. His father had never been fond of animals in his living space.
And so, the elastic flew again. And again. And again.

And again, and again, and again!
It took about 20 times for the cat to finally seem to tire, eventually dropping the elastic in front of the boy's feet, then just flopping down on her side. Naturally, her eyes still followed the elastic as he picked it up again, but she didn't seem to bounce back to her paws.
"Thank you for playing with me... but I think I'm done for now, Xavier!" She flattened her head down against the floor and took in a deep breath. Gosh, it was fun to play every so often!
